  1. Still does, on the Sunday before Christmas, on ABC. The Ten Commandments is the movie that shows up at Easter, I believe also on ABC.
  2. They'd known each other for years. Prior to Plummer's Broadway debut in 1954, Shatner was Plummer's understudy in a production of Henry V at the Stratford Theatre in Ontario and had to take over after Plummer got kidney stones. As for The Sound of Music, two of the big reasons he was convinced to take the role (and he had to be convinced) was he admired Julie Andrews (he once called seeing her sing "I Could Have Danced All Night" on stage "A shimmering moment of magic"), and he was allowed to rewrite parts of the script, in particular relating to the character of Georg von Trapp. He thought as originally written the character was too wishy-washy and one-dimensional. When the movie came out, the real von Trapp kids were not happy with how their dad was portrayed and publicly said that he was a caring father who was very involved in their lives. And from what I've read and seen of the real family, it was Maria that had the prickly personality, not Georg. Also, random fact about TSOM: Someone who really wanted that role was Yul Brynner, and in one respect he was better qualified for the job because he was a guitarist. They had to teach Plummer how to play the guitar and he didn't like it, partly because he was a concert-level pianist and it hurt his fingers.
  3. I'm the whiter shade of pale on a good day, but is it my TV or does Milk Street not have a makeup budget? Or are they deliberately making them look like that? Because an episode I just watched had a guy with a neck that had seen the sun and a face that looked like it had zinc sunscreen on it. And Chris practically blended into the background at times.
  4. The Food Network put on their FB page that last week's Kids Baking Championship episode was instead an episode of The Kitchen due to a mistake on their end. The reran the KBC episode yesterday and it's also available On Demand. (Whether that was actually the case, that it was a control room mistake, that sounds a bit too convenient. They should have been able to fix it pretty quickly unless something went really wrong.)
  5. It's the ceilings. Removing popcorn ceilings necessitates asbestos abatement procedures, and that costs coin. Unless you have the money and time to have someone come in and upend your house for a while to get rid of them, if you have that type of ceiling in your house it's recommended to keep them unless you see evidence of crumbling, and at the point you need to call in the pros to deal with it.
  6. Just watched this episode, and Adam really bashed the safety can openers. I also noticed the winner was a can opener that looks like the one most people have used for decades. Wonder if they have ever done an electric can opener testing.
  7. Aaron McCargo, Jr., winner of season 4 of Next Food Network Star and host of the resulting show "Big Daddy's House", is now the on-air product representative for QVC's house brand of cookware, Cook's Essentials. He made his debut today via Skype since QVC hasn't had product reps live in studio standing next to a host since late March.
  8. GZ has also been selling GZ-branded products on QVC, and viewers are regularly reminded during his appearances that he's an Iron Chef. I dunno, could some Chopped contestant be a bit of a snot and make something that he or she demands must be eaten using toothpicks, just to see what GZ does?
  9. From what I've read about the tax implications and the jumping through the hoops thereof of prize-heavy shows like TPIR, if I was on a game show I'd be happy to win cash, with full knowledge that I wouldn't be walking out of the place with a check for the entire amount I won.
  10. Blocks of episodes of GGG will be aired every day this week (April 19-25), in addition to the usual Friday/Saturday marathons of DDD.
  11. The joys of shopping channels. Someone's gotta pay to cover all of the extra overhead: hosts, production staff, studio equipment (which is not cheap), IT, employees at multiple warehouses, etc. Then of course if there's a celebrity's name on it they can charge a bit more for the name. With respect to food, especially the perishable stuff like the chickens which have to be shipped faster, they build the shipping cost into the price. They know very well that $75 plus $10 shipping will cause some people to balk but just make it $85 and free shipping and it's suddenly OK. They also build in a cushion for refunds. If those chickens show up thawed because the dry ice is gone or you think they're the worst things you've ever eaten in your life, your only recourse is to call for a refund and then chuck what's left in the trash. If you don't like the skillet you can return it for a refund of the purchase price (not shipping, unless the item is defective).
  12. But, but...it's a great deal! If you only want one 3.75 lb chicken instead of the set of two you're paying $54.99! (5 easy pays of $11) https://www.qvc.com/Geoffrey-Zakarian-375-lb-Spatchcock-Chicken.product.M67859.html
  13. Today's show had someone win a 5-day trip for 4 to game 4 of the 2020 Stanley Cup final. The NHL is still trying to figure out how to hold playoffs so hypothetically that trip could end up being to somewhere in North Dakota (if they get this idea to actually happen and allow fans at all, which is unlikely at this point). But as @Maverick mentioned above about the disclaimer, I bet they'll either offer the contestant to kick the can until next year's final or substitute something else (maybe cash equivalent?).
  14. Not to mention 8 more hours today, from 1-9 p.m. eastern.
  15. Poking my head over here to say that Geoffrey Zakarian is going to be on QVC throughout the day today (March 11th) hawking, among other things, an electric skillet, which is their special deal of the day. But he has his name on a bunch of other products available at QVC, including this new one: M-67422. Yes indeed, you can buy Zakarian "brand" mixed nuts.
  16. Am I a terrible person for thinking during that very lengthy segment, "Save the hassle and instead try to find a pastry shop that makes it"?
  17. GZ appears on QVC at least once a month, sometimes more, hawking his branded products (cookware, some food, and wine). From what I've seen no chopsticks anywhere.
  18. I find it interesting how a bunch of the long-established primetime shows have experienced noticeable ratings drops this year, some even in the past few months. Yes, there are a number of major holidays in the last 3 months of the year and people are out and about shopping, socializing, watching Hallmark, watching football, cutting the cord, etc, but I'm doubtful that some of these shows will recover the thousands or hundreds of thousands of viewers they've lost. And as @JTMacc99 pointed out above, they've got nothing else to fall back on. They have shows that are getting tired while they struggle to launch new shows, many of which that wind up quickly disappearing.
  19. I have now seen him. Episode with the roast beef tenderloin and lyonnaise potatoes (the new gal with the tats did the first recipe, he did the second). Dude works out.
  20. I brought up the tattoo thing not because I didn't know that the restaurant industry has a lot of people with them, but just out of surprise that ATK is now allowing it after so many seasons. But I guess it's a bit like how the U.S. military had to loosen restrictions on visible tattoos while in uniform because it was getting to the point where more potential recruits than not had them.
  21. I just saw that episode for the first time and my first thought was that she may be the first person with visible tattoos to appear on ATK/Cook's Country. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
  22. Here a month late... Julia's voice is lower-pitched than Bridget's.
  23. Zac Posen's company suddenly shuts down: https://wwd.com/fashion-news/fashion-scoops/zac-posen-shuttering-business-1203361156/ https://nypost.com/2019/11/01/zac-posen-shutters-business-axes-entire-staff-reports/
