    Captain Marvel (2019)

I'm slightly worried that this will lean into the 90s nostalgia too hard. I remember the 90s. It had some good points, some bad points, some 'the best we could manage at the time' points. Not everything needs to be brought back. We don't need to see a horizontal computer case with a CRT screen on top, with a dialup modem connected. If they want to make the computer look really alien, it'll be running Windows 3.1 instead of 95. It might have a Doom icon on the desktop. Given that Carol wears a NIN shirt, odds are that Nirvana will play on the radio. If so, it'll be Teen Spirit. Though we might even get Metallica's Enter Sandman. Big question. Do you think we'll get a Friends, Seinfeld, or Simpsons reference? Yes, I'm expecting at least some of the above. And I'm expecting it to be on the nose. Do you think it'll be as nostalgia-laden as I think? WIll it be good? Bad?

    The Star Wars Saga

I flicked through, and I think you're right. Also, now I want to watch the whole of TLJ again. I had plans for today, you git!
  3. That's pretty cool. He did the Halo shorts too. Maybe that's where his strengths lie? In live action game trailers? Also, is there a cast list anywhere? I'm looking for one, but not finding it.
  4. In a thread about spaceship reveals on IO9, I came across this classic moment. Great stuff.
  5. Tolkien. Starring Nicholas Hoult and Lily Collins. I'm a big LOTR fan, and regard JRRT as the best author of all time. As such, I really don't know what to think of this. There's certainly some interesting things in his life. I suppose enough highlights to fill two hours. But you just know they'll lean heavily on WWI being such a big influence on his work. It was in some ways, but there's a lot that wasn't. Was his son or any member of the Tolkien family consulted? Does it draw material from the Carpenter biography? There's just a lot of room for this to be a complete mess, and I'm nervous.
  6. I reread their books over and over and over until I was sick of them.
  7. JRR Tolkien and Terry Pratchett. I love them both to death. They're my 1 & 2 favourite authors of all time. But I burned out of them a couple of years ago, and have to take a long break.
  8. Highest in raw gross, sure. But Mad Max 1 and Blair Witch were both created on shoestring budgets. They have to be far more profitable. And while I saw the first one, I have no desire to do so again. This looks deeply missable.

    Aladdin (2019)

It's not Will Smith that gets me, the lava doesn't quite mesh with Aladdin himself. Is ILM too busy with Star Wars/MCU?
  10. Carmen Argenziano has passed. He was a Centauri in the episode Knives. There's a pic if you don't remember.
  11. Carmen Argenziano, Jacob Carter, has died age 75. No details about his passing are provided. It's a nice article about his life and career.
  12. There was a mocumentary in 2004, C.S.A.: The Confederate States of America. The difference being that it was written and directed by an African American, Kevin Wilmott. So it's not the premise, it's the predicted execution. Would the D&D version be better if they brought Wilmott or someone similar on board, or should the whole thing be cancelled before it starts?

    Captain Marvel (2019)

Oh, bloody hell. I know the movie is set in the 90s, the site doesn't have to be too! Surely we've evolved past such terrible design. But at least it doesn't have frames, that I can see.

    Internet Pet Peeves

All the wikis have moved to Fandom, and now all the pictures are in .webp format. If I just want to look at the pic, that's fine. But downloading it and calling it up again is a problem. I have to do a google picture search to find a better version. What was wrong with jpg or png?
  15. Thanks. But still longer than expected. Just when I thought the last couple of years had been slow paced for me... Time is a funny thing.

    Captain Marvel (2019)

My bet, Day of the Shirt. Something will probably pop up there in a few days.
  17. It's been going for 4 years? Not that I've ever watched an episode, but I thought I heard about it being greenlit a year or so ago, not four.
  18. Nice art, but this is a terrible idea. What would a China story be about? Crushing resistance? Obeying authority? These are not Doctor Who themes.
  19. I don't remember being amused the first time I watched it, but I've never liked cringe 'comedy'.
  20. Good Omens and Narnia both have good female protagonists. LOTR will be a prequel, so there's room to wedge some in, maybe along with characters from southern Gondor or even Harad or Khand. I don't know about the others. But yes, the three I mentioned are in that tradition. Still, there is room to wedge somemodern sensibilities in. I love those books, but I don't mind a retcon if it's good. :)
  21. Another episode and I'm out. Just not enjoying it. Well, I have plenty of other podcasts to keep me going.
  22. It's been at least 25 years since I last watched it. While it was funny back then, I was a kid with no taste. I have no idea what anyone else thinks about it. I can't stop you. However, Fosters isn't a popular beer down here. It's just the one that got advertised in America.
  23. Australia as incredibly dangerous and/or populated soley by Paul Hogan caricatures. You see, the first Australian settlers were mostly unwilling and unprepared. Even some of the willing ones were frankly, a bunch of idiots. Of course they died! Suburbia can be dangerous if you walk into traffic with your eyes closed, let alone another country with a whole new range of flora and fauna. If you're prepared, you can thrive. My grandmother is 91 and hasn't even died once. As for Paul Hogan, I can't remember the last accent I heard that broad. In fact, due to immigration, maybe a fifth of the people I interact with are immigrants. Indian seems to be the big one for me. Which is fair enough, since I live right by the Indian Ocean.
  24. I liked her at the start, when she was all rough edges. But as they smoothed her off, making her an acceptable love interest for Luke, they took away everything interesting. Her death was a mercy killing.
