  1. Young Randall is Perfect. As a Perfect child, he would never traumatize his parents by drowning. In all seriousness, the characterization of Randall throughout the series has always reminded me of that interview question: What are your greatest faults? You're supposed to say something like, "I tend to spend too much time making sure the final product is perfect" or "I fully invest myself in a successful outcome." It's like someone asked the writers to list Randall's faults, and they came up with "He tries to hard to fix everything" and "He loves to the point of being anxious." I wish we would get one glimpse of Randall cursing because he stepped on a Lego. OK, Toby and Kate. This storyline seems to be the weakest point of this season. Maybe the writers underestimated Chris Sullivan's likeability. As a married couple, they do a lousy job communicating. I do understand Kate's desire to stay put - I would want to be close to my terminally ill mother and keep my children in an environment I knew and appreciated. But it doesn't sound like they ever talked about what would happen if this job went well. It's like they both closed their eyes and hoped things would go their way. (OK, in this respect, they're like a lot of married couples I know.) I just feel like the writers want Toby to be the bad guy and Kate to be the good guy, and it would be more believable if they presented it as a case of truly irreconcilable differences. Plus, we still don't know why dying Rebecca would want Toby at her bedside if Kate is happily remarried! Did anyone else want Uncle Jesse and Uncle Joey to come strolling out of the townhouses while Kate was walking up the hill?
  2. Oh gosh. I have waited all year for this to come to the U.S. My father, sadly, is dying. He is my hero and one of my favorite people in the world. At the end, when Mature Jenny was speaking of grief and the circle of life, I was gutted. They do such a good job with this show. You care about every single character, even if you just met them.
  3. All they have to do is check out the flash forwards and see that Jack grew into a normal sized young man. :)
  4. I agree with your sentiment. However, I also think the writers are trying Very Hard to make Toby look like a bad-ish guy. They could easily make him into the very bad guy by having him reject Kate after he lost the weight, but they didn't. Instead, they're shoehorning him into the role of being the kind of bad guy. I can't figure out where they're going with this story line, but I'm afraid it's going to be the one storyline that I find unfulfilling as we wrap up the season.
  5. I really struggled with teen Kate having to mother her mother. I know they want to play up the mother/daughter relationship, but I have too many girlfriends who were forced to be their mom's BFF because their moms didn't have any real friends. That's a lot of pressure on a teenager. I wish Toby and Kate weren't going south. I almost feel like they're trying to make Toby be a jerk without going overboard - in the real world, I'm afraid Toby would make snide comments to Kate because he managed to lose weight and she's still big. Again, I suppose I know too many people who treat exercise and nutrition like a religion and become enthusiastic converts. Last night was a fabulous episode. I'm going to miss this family when the show is finished.
  6. I like Cassidy. I think she is an interesting character. But, unless I'm wrong, she is still married. I'm not comfortable watching this unfold.
  7. Every time I get to this point in the story, I find myself saying the same thing: Marius, you picked the wrong girl. Eponine > Cosette. Every time.
  8. I just discovered this show a couple of months ago. Heck, I signed up for Hulu Live so I could finish my binge with Season 5. I love this family. I love the little nuances. I love that Patrick is the best TV boyfriend ever. I love that Johnny Rose genuinely loves the people around him. I love Alexis and David's sibling relationship. I love how the family has adopted Stevie, who seems to desperately need a family. Next year needs to be Stevie's year. And Twyla's year. Both of those women need a happily ever after. My only complaint, if there is one, is the hotel. After all this time, don't you think the Roses would have done something to upgrade their surroundings? I don't know - splash some paint on the walls or put up some artwork.
  9. I credit Kevin's character growth to Justin Hartley. Remember the first episode, when he was introduced as this spacey, womanizing actor? Now he's become this sensitive soul. And I screamed at the TV last night. "Kevin! Put that back right now! Right now! Don't pick that up! Don't drink that! Kevin, put that down right now!"
  10. I'm legit surprised they don't make Feodora wear a fake mustache so she can twirl it.
  11. I keep thinking that Bertie is a miniature Ossie from Poldark. I obviously spend too much time watching British TV.
  12. Oh Lenny Bruce. My heart breaks for him. If I didn't know his inevitable demise, I'd root for him and Midge to be together. I do think Joel is the end game for Midge. I think we're going to see his character grow and evolve. They do seem to be great friends and co-parents. I'm not sure I'd pick him over Benjamin - OK, fine, I'd definitely pick Benjamin, but I don't have two kids and a history with Joel. Joel seems to know Midge inside and out. I can't believe I'm defending Joel, but this is my gut speaking. In the final scene, she wanted to be with someone who loved her, and she went to Joel. That says something. This show is so beautifully cast. I love how Midge's parents were fleshed out this season. I like the friendship between Midge and Susie. How on God's green earth am I going to wait another year to see what happens next? I want a swing coat, even if it makes me look like I'm wearing a parachute. About a year ago, I decided my language was getting too foul and I was going to clean up my act. I did a good job. People who worked with me actually thought I was clean and pure and innocent. I binge watch the second season, and I'm throwing the F word all over the place.
  13. As Susie walked towards the employee quarters, I wanted someone to ask her to carry a watermelon.
  14. 1. I want a swing coat, even if it makes me look like I'm wearing a parachute. 2. I want to live in Paris with Rose and Abe. 3. I think this season gets better with every episode.
  15. I don't have a DVR, so I can't check this. But the ultrasound I saw on the doctor's screen in the office was not an ultrasound of a 14-week fetus. Surely somebody on staff is a mother and can say, look, a 14-week ultrasound is a round head, a round torso and some appendages. Do they even do screening tests that early? And wouldn't an amnio be worth a whole episode of watching Kate emote over whether it's worth the risk? Justin Hartley is one of the most perfectly beautiful men on television. If Randall and Beth break up, I have no hope for any marriage. Where is Annie in the future? Where? Not feeling an Alzheimer's story line, although it would be interesting to watch older adult Pearsons navigate the joys of taking care of an elderly parent. If they're anything like my family, they'll revert to their childhood roles and fight over the little details because they don't want to admit what the big picture tells them. Again, no breaking up Randall and Beth, show runners. You've been warned. I can't even think about Uncle Nicky yet. How come they can age the characters down so well, but the older versions look like my junior high school play characters, where we drew lines on our faces with eyebrow pencil and sprayed gray stuff in our hair?
