  1. I read a little of Soo's biography and now I understand both why he's such a good competitor (former pro golfer) and good chef (Michelin starred in Chicago). No way was he not going back into the competition. It was disappointing that all three moved to the second round of LCK, but I'll bet they planned all along to have Soo and one returnee win.
  2. Apparently the name was inspired by one owner's father and the era of the Harvey Girls, but no direct connection.
  3. I was wondering if the supper club is in lieu of Restaurant Wars; very similar premise in terms of two teams and number of courses. I hope so, because if these cheftestants can't handle supper club, no way will they manage Restaurant Wars. Aside from dealing with a budget, they don't seem inclined to do well with following leadership like front of house and expediter. Or for some, cooking well.
  4. Senior woman here - I never even heard of the video game but am enjoying the show. Much better than 3 Body Problem! I mentioned Fallout to my 36 year old son and he said, You're watching that? He has never played but knows all about the game and the show.
  5. Reading through these comments and spurred by the lost in space mention, I started thinking, "Danger Will Downing! Danger Will Downing!" I was another who thought about the Twilight Zone episode "To Serve Man". You'd think some of the nerds on the show would be familiar with it! Also I admit I was hoping Ye would grab Tatiana by the arm and run her off the mountain. I gave up on anything seeming logical pretty early on but did enjoy familiar faces from GOT and Doctor Strange. And I watched to the end of the season so at least it held my interest. Admittedly I was thinking it wouldn't leave so many unanswered questions.
  6. So you're saying Hiromatsu went to...Tahiti?
  7. I agree with the post above that thought the episode felt Disneyfied. I do love the new Doctor and companion. Am I the only one that got vibes of the Mos Eisley cantina when the goblins started singing? "This is not the baby you are looking for."
  8. I thought of this thread when I saw the pictures of Dolly Parton at that halftime show. Her legs (and the rest of her) looked great!
  9. I like Gerry less and less as the season progresses (and the women more and more). He walked in and said how much he missed all the women - that he himself had sent packing. Does he realize that he might have warmer feelings for them than they have for him at this point? Are we supposed to feel sorry for him that he feels so bad about breaking hearts; he does cry a lot! It seemed like he really did a number on Ellen and Faith both; they are not yet over it. But most of the others are and did a nice job expressing how being on the show opened them up to embracing their lives in a more positive manner. Re Leslie's hometown venue, I read that she lives in a small condo so they used a private club that her son belongs to (he is in the restaurant business). So it might be a place they often use for family gettogethers.
  10. My thoughts on another board: I’ve thought for a couple of episodes that he’s keeping Theresa because he doesn’t have strong feelings and wouldn’t feel as bad dropping her at the end as he would with other women. Much of this show is about his emotions! He might be the fragile one. It seemed to me that he had a different comfort level and ease with Leslie - how they looked at each other, body language, etc. Not looking so staged. Plus, first time I think he used the word “wife” (vs “married”, which he has said often) was with her. And their love declarations were not in front of her family but while alone. So said to each other instead of for show?
  11. Nate Sofrelli? Maybe she'll advise on the Jimenez campaign; she does seem to be keeping track of what is happening politically. And she could expose what happened at ATN, although that would expose Tom. Chief of Staff Shiv 😉?
  12. I won't try to figure out why Shiv voted the way she did other than thinking she understood that Kendell had no moral center at all - not buried, not ignored, not manipulated. Just not there at all. He was nothing but lies and betrayal. As bad as everyone else was, they possibly understood (even if subconsciously) that they were doing ill deeds. Shiv and Tom's ongoing relationship could be interesting - and could get much better. Didn't they mysteriously meet when she was in a "bad place" and he rescued her? He did the same thing at the end of the finale - he went over to her in the hall and said "I got a car in 20 if you want to join." Perhaps that mirrored their initial relationship. He knew how much pain she was in - in fact, by leaking to her that he would be the choice for CEO, he spared her the public shock of betrayal once the vote went through. And knowingly gave her the opportunity to fight Matsson, even though that was not in his best interests. She had asked him earlier if they could have a relationship - this was him saying maybe. What will happen now that she no longer can look down on him from the power position of being a Roy? Can they move on from the brutal air clearing? Neither is really in a power position over each other. Shiv will never be a corporate wife and she really is stronger as a guide than a leader. If - big if - they can get past the pain, mistrust, and anger - what would happen if they team up to take out Matsson from the inside? Perhaps with the help of Gerri, Karolina, and Ebba. Tom had a great poker face during his conversation with Matsson but to me he seemed furious at the way Shiv was being discussed and dismissed. He can betray her but not others! And talking of corporate wives and air clearing, I loved the little muttered conversation between Caroline and Peter as the siblings drove away. Caroline: Go away. Peter: Bleeping waste of time.
  13. Near the end of the episode, Shiv take a call from Matsson where he says "It's a yes", she replies, "From...yeah? and he says "They think they're interested". Who are "they?" Who did Matsson talk to? Mencken's people? I agree he wouldn't name her as CEO. Entire conversation: Shiv: Hey! Lukas: It's a yes. Yes? Yes. Shiv: Uh. From... Yeah? Yeah! ( Suspenseful music playing ) Okay. Great move. Smart. Lukas: Yeah. They think they're interested. And, uh, I think I can make a US CEO work. Shiv: Great. Let's, uh, let's make a meatball burger. ( Chuckles softly ) Lukas: Yeah. Good night.
  14. 1975 to 2015, city then suburbs. I may have heard the name but had no idea who he was. I see his career started about 2011 so for me, yes, long after I was in the suburbs and not my music style. I assumed the mural would have had older iconic Chicago figures. Like Michael Jordan! But from photos I do see the cap with the 3 was iconic.
  15. Yes! Vincent and The Doctor - one of my top favorites. We were wondering that too - we lived in Chicagoland for 40 years; husband is a big sports fan and didn't recognize him. I assumed he was a player for the White Sox. I did quite a bit of research. First I though Ozzie Guillen because it looks like him, but he was #13. Now I'm convinced it's Harold Baines; I gather they retired his number 3. At least I knew who #23 on the Bulls was! Husband and I weren't fans of this episode but after reading all the comments, I appreciate it more. To me, some of the epiphanies were incorporated into the scenes in a more subtle way (Ted, Roy and Jamie, Higgins and Will), others were forced and went too long (Rebecca, Colin and Trent, the team). Halfway through I said, at least no Nate. Loved the homage to Butch Cassidy, although it should be noted the bicycle riding scene in the movie was Butch and Etta, not Sundance. (NYT did not completely agree with me https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/19/arts/television/ted-lasso-season-3-episode-6-recap-dutch-treat.html).
  16. Seemed to me like Shiv is starting to make some highly effective but subtle moves to keep the deal on target. She knows she can't control Kendall; he'll just go crazier with any questioning. But she got Roman to stay off stage (which might have helped keep Kendell from going further overboard) and possibly got through to him on thinking about his behavior. She wasn't really giving any any info to Mattson - in fact, she forced him come to her on the plane and effectively told him he wasn't running things yet. And the reason he took down the tweet was that she stepped out of the room and texted him to dial back. Otherwise there was a strong possibility of a Twitter war exploding. With Tom, if nothing else, she got some home truths from him. I think that even though she technically has no position, she really does wield power.
  17. Off the wall theory just for fun: maybe Quentin had kept track of Greg all along because of young unrequited love but pretends it's just friendship. So he subtly gets Greg interested in Sicily. If he's a long term stalker, maybe he knows Greg is having an affair with another woman. So he takes advantage of Greg's absence to get Tanya alone and tries to (again subtly) get her to donate $$$. When that doesn't work, brings in the gigalo to get blackmail footage. But the overall plan is to kidnap Tanya for ransom. The ropes and duct tape seem more in that direction. Once they have her alone, they can either have her arrange a ransom or contact Greg and threaten him with exposure for his affair if he doesn't arrange the ransom. Somehow I feel that kidnapping and ransom is an old tradition in that part of the world.
  18. One thing I don't really understand - how does anyone (other than Aemond) know what happened to Luke and his dragon? Do the dragons communicate with each other and then with their riders? The air fight certainly happened out of sight of anyone else. So if Aemond just plays dumb and says he went for a ride to clear his head, how would anyone know different? For all anyone knows, Luke could have ridden his dragon into a mountain in the storm and disappeared, So how does everyone know what happened so quickly?
  19. She's been seeing the instructional murals on palace walls all her life. I think she is just plain scared of dying in childbirth and who can blame her after what happened to her mother. I've seen the same fear of marriage in some romance novels. And I think she hadn't even considered the possibility of being pregnant until the Plan B tea arrived. Doesn't only happen when you're married!
  20. Didn't realize it while watching but saw online that Matt/Daemon did not speak at all in something like six minutes of screen time. No dialogue at all in this episode. Great conveyance of thoughts via face. Actions speak louder than words! I can just imagine the enemy forces thinking, why isn't he saying anything? What's his game - better wait for him to tell us. Oops!
  21. That was Ser Laenor Velaryon, the son of Corlys and Rhaeny, who we earlier saw in conference on the hill. I have read that his dragon is named Seasmoke. And yes, the Velaryons are related to the Targaryens and can ride dragons.
  22. I was curious about this and ran into Victorian era crescent salad plates. https://etiquipedia.blogspot.com/2021/03/american-vs-british-crescent-plate-use.html I was impressed with the party favors of carved fans and monogrammed gold cigarette cases, although I doubt that was in the English serving style.
  23. It was a fashion show for Gregory's new line of shapewear, easily seen through the hoop skirts. They deliberately included women of all body shapes; I thought it was kind of fun.
  24. Am I the only one who yelled “Mother of Dragons” when the ?dinosaurs started emerging from the monolith? I wish this show inspired me to read the books (as The Expanse and Shadow and Bone did), but like Wheel of Time, sounds like too intensive of detail for me.
  25. For a moment I thought that was Rand on the beach at the end and he was about to discover the Statue of Liberty. But other than that, I'm relatively lost. Better than Foundation for sure, but much prefer Witcher. And Expanse.
