  1. It was strange at the end, the way Boden asked Casey if he had anything he wanted to tell the Chief about the jumper rescue -- almost as though he was trying to incite defensive remarks from Casey. He obviously had Casey's report that he could have read in detail before calling Casey into his office, with Mullin standing there, looking like he was ready to personally execute someone. Was Boden suggesting that Casey might want to change his story from the report? We didn't hear all that Casey said in response -- just the last part, where he says he stands by his decisions at the time. I was cool the way it ended though, with Mullin showing that he does have some smarts and the ability to accurately judge the quality of subordinate officers. I've known guys like Mullin in private industry, and this lack of people skills generally hurts their careers. When they piss off enough people, working their way up through the layers of promotions, eventually their character comes back to bite them on the butt. People they've hurt on the way up will find ways to sabotage them. In Viet Nam, officers like this guy were often shot in the field, by their own troops. People skills are a valuable asset in almost all walks of life.
  2. Re Orville, sometimes its funny *because* the jokes have kinda bombed.... ;-) A laugh track would have been a brutally bad idea -- sure glad they didn't do that. It seems to have just has the right blend of campy humor and seriousness... It's going to be fun to see how they develop it thru the rest of the season...!
  3. OK, I've had it with the Klingon dialect... it was interesting in the 1st episode, but by the end of this episode, I was fast forwarding. I don't care how relevant this dialogue with sub-titles is to the story – not gonna listen to that crap ‘ad infinitum’. It is like watching paint dry. And I’m not enjoying the series as much as I’d hoped. In by teens, back in the 60’s, I became instantly hooked on the program, watching each new series from beginning to end, ever since. Hope this picks up... I’m enjoying ‘The Orville’ more than this...
  4. This opening season show was likely the most stupid ever written for this program. When we watch these shows, the idea is, we're supposed to forget that the characters are actors, and get into the story. That's pretty much impossible when what we're seeing is laughably unbelievable. So the cliffhanger last fall, was a number of firefighters trapped in a burning warehouse -- it looked like they were all goners. The show opens this year, and Chief Boden announces with great drama, that he has made the impossibly difficult decision to deploy the 'water canon'. We are not privy to what that might be, but a couple of the firefighters standing around, nearly mess their pants when the chief announces this. They might react the same if he'd announced he was going to shoot at the building with 'real' canons. And to make matters ever more incredibly stupid, he does a 10 second countdown, as if they they're planning to launch a space rocket. At the end of the 10 seconds, they turn on some hoses and start hosing down the sides of the building and roof. This is so stupid that the show is ruined for me; it's turned into a comedy. Eventually all are rescued. In spite of Mouch appearing to be dead, and the others surrounded by flames -- Casey unconscious -- a few weeks later, not one of them has so much as a red spot, where they might have been scorched. Mouch looks ready to run a marathon. In the school at the end, the Chief is inside, looking for his wife. Eventually she is found, and dragged out -- flames everywhere, impeding their progress. Miraculously, as they emerge from the front of the school, everyone is standing around with their thumbs in their bums, and someone tells the Chief that the fire is out. He was just in Dante's Inferno 10 or 15 seconds ago. Lordy, give me a break. I don't think I can take this show anymore.
