  1. I know Yanic has been hanging out with her and went to the The Boss premiere, so she clearly doesn't have ill will towards former GG castmates.
  2. I think this is why I enjoy the Rory and Logan relationship. For the most part especially in S7, they did have a normal adult relationship. He was there for her during Richard's hospitalization. And even though he regressed after the deal went bad, he went out of his way to apologize and try to be a mature person about everything. Logan would call her out on things and Rory would call him out on things, they talked about problems they had (aside from Logan hiding the deal going south until he did and that was a great scene), and they supported each other. Their arguments felt organic. No mysterious daughter from thin air or constant tension over an ex boyfriend (Luke/Christopher and Jess/Dean). It's no surprise the bulk of that adult relationship was from after the Palladinos left.
  3. I thought Jess got the tickets after he went to the Gilmore house and got a lecture from Lorelai? I just don't get why Rory didn't talk to him after the first time he didn't call her. "Hey I waited but you didn't call at all, what happened? Just let me know ahead of time next time, thanks." It's pretty simple.
  4. You can definitely see hints of Melissa's current characters in later Sookie. Just without the swearing.
  5. I saw that during my last rewatch of early BtvS when trying to introduce hubby to the show and also thought of this situation. However Oz was a much more eloquent speaker and Willow was not Lorelai level "TELL ME NOW, I DON'T CARE ABOUT ANYTHING EXCEPT KNOWING RIGHT NOW". I would love that, but ASP seems to enjoy more over the top drama for dramas sake than anything. How else would she keep that relationship interesting for 4 extra long episodes? Also, not really important to plot points, but Scott Patterson is no Kyle Chandler. Leading to my possible UO that I think SP's inadequacies as an actor is what makes Luke so unattractive personality wise to people. I think a better actor would have conveyed the angry brooding a little less "possible domestic abuse-y" and surly killjoy-ey.
  6. I don't know how old Luke is, but I think it's safe to say that it's been many years since he took high school Spanish. Most people I know didn't remember anything from high school Spanish a year or two after taking the regents exam.
  7. It seemed like the alcohol was spaced out enough time wise and with all the food and other drinks (water, tea, coffee) that it wouldn't be a problem. Lorelai wasn't chugging the drinks and then raring to go. 2nd cocktails wasn't something she did that often. I think the finale was the only time Emily asked for after dinner drinks, and that was obviously to keep them around until the end of time. Plus we're also assuming that Rory never drove home. The golf course advice was dumb obviously. Because getting into Chilton was a special occasion whereas the other FNDs were just weekly dinners. I wouldn't be surprised if they had champagne when she announced she was going to Yale. Not really eyebrow raising. Why didn't Gran go to Rory's Chilton graduation? She moved to Hartford at that point, no?

    Season 2

She also dated that young guy from her class and right afterward said "I'm a casual dater!" So...that's a casual date. Also the date with Jon Hamm. But yeah...anyways. Season 2! I think Dean made and effort to be into what Rory AND Lorelai were into. Whereas Jess just meshed with Rory but gave no cares about Lorelai. I think that's the biggest difference in the relationships. The scene with double date night with Max and all the "marriage advice" would have only worked with Dean. It was an almost creepy and odd scene. If you need advice on your fiance from her teenage daughter's boyfriend that close to your wedding, it's time to re-evaluate the impending nuptials.
  9. Don't forget he was going to get the nanny to take her until Lorelai intervened.
  10. So in Lost&Found Dean notices Rory doesn't have the bracelet he made for her anymore. Rory runs home and then spends the entire episode looking for said bracelet. However, during the book sale, Rory buys a mountain of books and makes plan with Dean to do stuff right after buying the books. When Rory runs home, she doesn't have a mountain of books. Also, what is Dean doing during the few hours that Rory is looking for the bracelet? He was already pushing for spending the entire day together so wouldn't he be wondering where/why Rory ran off? In fact, he was alreadyin possessive Dean mode so there'd be no way that he'd just sit and guard her books while she's off running around town looking for the bracelet. Makes no sense.
  11. If Marty wanted Logan to go along with the ridiculous charade, maybe he shouldn't have had that ridiculous dick measuring contest with him. If I wanted someone I had issues with to go along with a bizarre lie to an annoying but perfectly sweet significant other, I'd be a little less truculent regardless of how that person was being. Heck since he had time to perfect his little lie and add on to that foundation of crap, he could have just head things off with "I used to cater for Logan's parties, come to think of it I must have seen Rory at one of their hangouts". Nothing about that is inherently untrue. If you're going to build your relationship on lies, at least be quick about it. Honestly, I think his house of lies would have fallen apart as soon as Paris came into the mix because I don't see her playing along with this high school BS. She would have taken one look at Marty and tore him a new one and it would have been GLORIOUS.
  12. I think it's better she found out then than later, it was a stupid lie that was just going to make her feel worse over time. So I have a question about Christopher and Lorelai. From various dialogue and things shown, he realized he was in love with her when he was 14 and they were obviously hanging out and together when she got pregnant at 16. It seems likes they were together all of high school. But how does Christopher's conversation with Logan about going from prep school to prep school around the country fit in with that? Did he end up going to a local Chilton like school because he was kicked out of every prestigious school in the country in that quick a span? What a catch.
  13. I thought Rory treated people exactly how I would imagine someone growing up with their mother as a best friend rather than a parent would treat people.
  14. I get what some people are saying when E/R assume that Lorelai had it all covered. At the same time, these people had drinks and dinner together every week. I find it hard to believe that the conversation about college tuition didn't come up before Rory got accepted into Yale. I probably would have started asking Lorelai these questions when it became evident that she knew nothing about the college application process. "You mean you don't know your kid needs to apply to more than one school? Let's see what else you don't know. Stop acting like a petulant child and join us in the real world."
  15. So...who is Bobbi? Edit: Duh. Logan's colleague she was jealous of. Never mind! I suppose she could have minored or even used gen eds to help pad her class variety to something more geared towards journalism on top of all the YDN stuff.
  16. Were we supposed to be impressed with her aspirations of being a journalist? I thought what was impressive were more her academic accomplishments: becoming valedictorian; editor of Yale Daily News; getting into Yale, Harvard, and Princeton; etc... Did the show confirm her major? I know real Yale doesn't have journalism, but did GG-world Yale?
  17. I think Mrs. Kim stepped over the bounds of parenting at times. For instance demanding Lane raise Kwan and Steve the Mrs Kim way. No, these are your grandchildren who don't live under your roof and you have no right to dictate anything at this point. I think how you view the Lane/Mrs.Kim situation is also partially determined on your own personal views on religion.
  18. All I could think during that segment was, "what a nice party they got". There seemed to be more people that were invited to the party section than part of the panel being questioned though. I wonder why some people didn't make the cut.
  19. I think the saddest thing about the Lane/Mrs Kim relationship is that there were clearly things they had in common but were never able to really connect over it because of the wall that was put up. I'm not talking about their rebelling against their mothers, but about their interest and knowledge of music. Mrs. Kim helped Zach write a song and her advice was actually somewhat helpful. She was in a touring tambourine band.Heck, Mrs. Kim had perfect pitch. Honestly, I think it's a parenting failure that Mrs. Kim was so busy putting out draconian rules that she didn't notice and nurture Lane's obvious propensity towards music. I think Mrs. Kim was more at fault with their issues than Lane. Yes, children (young and old) need to obey the rules of the house, but when your rules are THAT strict, then it's quite obvious your child is going to rebel hard. She was just lucky that Lane seemed stuck between doing what she wanted and desperately making her mom happy. And in the end, that was more harmful to Lane than anything. Lane's life would have been significantly better had she cut off her mom completely and just gone off to whatever college she actually wanted to go to instead of applying to where her mom wanted her to apply/go. Or on the flip side, she would have been just fine being the perfect doting daughter doing exactly what her mom wanted. Instead she just ended up in a sad situation and neither one is really happy.
  20. Yeah that was kind of absurdly over the top of Lorelai, it's like she was discounting over 30 years of marriage and just made the worst of assumptions. Plus, sometimes people just act oddly when their loved one is in the hospital as a coping method. I saw my aunt spend 2 hours at my grandfather's wake telling my brother that he was the greatest failure in our family and that our grandfather died disappointed in him. But everyone just let her be (including my brother) because we knew how hard it was for her since she loved her father that much. Heck, Emily was behaving a lot more rationally than most and holding it together better than I would have been. Don't forget also comparing her to Pol Pot. Honestly, all those comparisons and off-hand jokes tell me just how immature, over dramatic, and over the top Lorelai was. Gee Lorelai sorry your rich parents were a little overbearing, it must be exactly like living in constant fear of being executed, thrown in a gas chamber, or going through a famine where millions of people die. Get over yourself. It made me LOL when Mikhail (that ballet dancer Emily sponsored) stormed off because he read the interview where Emily was compared to Stalin, and Stalin had the guys entire family murdered or something. Mikhail was probably trying to get away from Lorelai, because anyone who casually says things like that are just not worth being around. Their relationship has always felt odd, thanks for figuring out why for me. I definitely see what you're talking about. Ignoring a person who upsets you works when you're talking about friends (and really something more childish than anything), but absolutely doesn't work in a parent-child setting. Lorelai was definitely in the wrong with the Max situation in regards to Rory. And I agree with AllyB that Max would have definitely helped mediate a lot of the issues in the later seasons had he been around. He was a strong personality who really fought back against Lorelai when needed, but also wanted to talk over issues that popped up. I can't see Lorelai's Yale meltdown BS going anywhere had he been there. Nor can I see the season 6 rift lasting more than an episode. He was probably the best suited as a stepfather compared to all the other guys Lorelai dated. Jason would have had no relationship; Luke would really cave to whatever Lorelai wanted; Alex would also cave and he had 2(?) young kids of his own; Christopher while not a stepfather was a pretty shitty dad for the most part who seemed to use Rory to get to Lorelai more than anything. I don't think Max would be as impressed with Logan getting kicked out of many prestigious schools the way Christopher was. I do think they ended up making Max a pretty bland and boring character, but in real life and not a TV show, Max was probably the best for that household. Definitely. Rory is probably the only character in the show I wouldn't run away screaming from within a few minutes of sitting with them. I may have some issues with her as a character for instance: getting together with a married man, and losing her shit and quitting school because of Mitchum; but all in all, she'd be the only bearable person from that show in a real life situation.
  21. Kirk and Lulu were buying a house and engaged by the end of the show? I remember Kirk wanted to break up with Lulu for some stupid reason and Luke threatened to beat some sense into him if he did, but that's all I recall about their relationship from that season. Sorry, S7 is not really in my rewatch/background noise rotation.
  22. I recently read the book "It's What I Do: A Photographer's Life of Love and War" by photojournalist Lynsey Addario. She mainly covered women's rights issues in places like Darfur and Afghanistan but also covered wars in the Middle East and Africa. She was kidnapped and taken hostage in both Iraq and Libya on different assignments. I cannot, in any way, shape, or form picture Rory in any of these settings or situations. Especially due to how increasingly dangerous that line of work has become. Doing a stupid prank with the LaDB is one thing, worrying about mortar fire, sexual assault, and beheadings is a whole other story. I can however see Rory on the outskirts of these issues. For instance, she wouldn't be at the protests at Tahrir Square, but writing a well researched article about the how's, who's, and why's of it. She wouldn't embed herself into ISIS like that crazy VICE reporter, instead, once again, researching the issue and probably going to the refugee camps in Jordan and interviewing the people affected by them. Plus with the elections and government the way it's been going, and whatever time she spent on the campaign trail, I can see her writing some pretty damning things there too. Especially with women's rights issues. With the advent of "podcasts journalism", youtube news channels, things like VICE, and all the blogging sites out there, I can see Rory doing just fine as a journalist. Just not Christiane Amanpour. Though, was Rory's goal in the end to still be a foreign correspondent? I know that's what early seasons Rory was aiming for, but did later seasons Rory still aim for that or just journalism in general?
  23. What's the point of bringing back a character if it's not the original actor? That's the only reason people want to see those characters return. I for one am still wondering about Asian guy from Luke's. the real star of the show ;-)
  24. This might be a dumb question, but how many people outside of the wedding party actually change at the location of a wedding ceremony? Emily and Richard made it seem like Luke was an idiot for wearing his suit on the drive to the ceremony, but, isn't that what everyone not in the wedding party does? I know they were doing some not so subtle belittling, but it's just such an odd thing to pick.
