  1. Similar to when Claire was put under having Bree (tv version anyways) and wakes up asking about her baby. Maybe they wanted the parallel?
  2. I agree with the Idiot Hut plot, I much preferred it in the show to the books. In the books it was emotional, and heart wrenching, but I LOVED watching it play out on screen. Richard was superb to watch. I agree they likely won’t end on a cliff hanger. My feeling is they probably will not return to the Ridge, but likely end the season at River Run, or leaving River Run on the way to Fraser’s Ridge. Season 4 began with traveling to River Run, so it may make sense that they close on the same note with them leaving.
  3. Oh, yes. I’ve seen season 1 so many times. When I can’t find anything to put on Netflix while I cook/do things around the house, season 1 never fails me, and generally season 2 as well. Cinematic is a good description. The colours were so vibrant and the camera angles brilliant. I felt like I was a part of the show and it was so realistic. Like I could reach out and touch the details in each scene. It likely has to do with the director of each episode, camera and lens used, angles of shooting (you wouldn’t believe what changing the angle of a shot would do), and definitely lighting. Maybe they’re using different gear, but also could be Ron stepping back. One persons vision never comes out the same as another’s. Maybe be someone else has more insight?
  4. I’m with you on this. I was so tempted to reread the ending again, but now I’m second guessing myself since they’ve changed a large portion of it. I think I’ll wait a week, too. I would have loved loved to see the scene with Jamie and Roger! Maybe they’ll squeeze it in still.
  5. Right? It airs at 8pm for me, but I have to wait until my toddler goes to bed so that I can watch. It always seems like he knows mom is busy on Sunday nights, and stays up past bedtime! So I’m stuck watching it so late regardless! 😂 Thanks for clarifying this. I forgot that she jumps into the flames too in the book. As well as handing the baby to Claire. Makes me curious as to why they didn’t include that scene.
  6. I agree. I think that’s one of my biggest qualms this season. Most people will think oh well, he’s been off hunting with them most of the time anyways. I am happy that he has a much larger storyline later, but it would have been nice to have the foundation laid a bit now. Richard was amazing in this episode. It’s unfortunate they made him a bit unlikeable earlier in the season, because I feel it’s bad situation after another for him in this season, and from here on out. I’m not taking away from the importance of Rogers captivity, the Mohawk, the Priest story line and the baby. That’s all well and good. I’m happy to see if fleshed out in an episode. My issue remains that our two main characters have been lacking in screen time significantly this season, and things like Rogers trek to New York could have been summed up a bit quicker, giving us some more time to focus on important plot points. Yes. I think sometimes the show runners do things better, and sometimes Diana’s version is better. It’s hit and miss, and for me I just find the season lacking a bit in comparison to the others. I guess I’ve just been a bit irked by the waste of time throughout the front half of the season, to rush through significant parts (like this episode) in the last portion of it. It IS a beautiful show, whoever commented, I can’t scroll that far up on my mobile to quote you exactly. I agree, and I’ll always be in awe of the beautiful costumes, scenery, locations, and for the most part excellent acting. Overall it’s one of the best tv shows I’ve seen, hence I power read through all 8 books in about 2 weeks after watching season 1 and 2. In a 1 week time frame. It’s a wonderful series. I’m obsessed, I love Outalnder. I have tons of fan fictions stories I follow and write them myself. Some things just irritate me though, and having a background in film, certain things irritate me more. If this had been 2 or even 1 episode previous, I probably wouldn’t have complained as much, due to plot amount still left. This WAS an important and necessary episode in my opinion. Also, the Idiot Hut looked super gorgeous with all those leaves. I’d like one in my backyard.
  7. No, unfortunately. Being in Canada I don’t have Starz access.
  8. Bloody hell. I dont even know where to start. Where the hell is Wee Ian’s story line? Have the writers forgotten he existed? Jeez! It’s like the entire season “Ian’s off hunting.” For eff sakes. As someone mentioned, how can we miss a character we never saw? Priest Alexandre’s acting was spot on. He was so great and I was sucked into his storyline. Although I was right alongside Roger calling him an idiot! Also, he was eye catching. I’ll be googling him shortly. The captivity dragged on a bit but I could live with it, IF we were 3 episodes behind where we are now! What the heck show writers?! All the filler BS in the front half of the season, dragged out scenes with Bree, Murtagh storyline being made up and shoved in (I’m not sure how he’s going to escape being a wanted man this time), and now you give us NO Jamie and Claire, and try and cram a HUGE chunk of story into the last two episodes? You have got to be joking. “Ha, just kidding, there are actually 4 episodes left, but they all star Bree from front to back!” Fuck sakes. I do agree with this and want to high five you. I’m feeling for Sam and Cait who carried this damn show from season 1, made it amazing, and are now being shoved aside because someone decided the story doesn’t need to be about Jamie and Claire anymore. I’d be pissed. Sophie is hit and miss for me. Some episodes she does well, and some she doesn’t. I wish that she would have had some more training with her accent so that she isn’t so focused on it during her scenes. I think she may do surprisingly well if she didn’t have to do the American accent. Look, they’ve changed so much in this show already, and make stuff up, they could have let her keep some of her natural accent. I was all for Murtagh returning when the change was made last season, but now I’m disliking it. I hope they make it better next season, and worthwhile. Or I may have to hop on the “Murtagh should have died at Culloden” train. Does that make me a horrible person? I don’t know. My sister in law who only read the first book keeps asking me stuff as episodes go on. I’ve gotten to the point that I’m saying I have no damn idea anymore, instead of trying to beat around the bush with an answer that doesn’t give stuff away. Because I actually don’t know. I can’t even tell her Murtagh doesn’t survive in the books, or she’ll never watch Outlander with me again! She’s so bored with the season. When I reminded her this morning that it’s on tonight (we watch together and record the episodes so we can skip commercials, thank goodness for technology 😬) and she LITERALLY responded “do we have to?” I just about hit the floor laughing. I’m forgetting what Jamie and Claire look like. Maybe we’ll be graced with a guest appearance next episode. 😑🙄 Aside from Bree scenes, I liked this episode. I think it was quite strong. I was also okay with the music choice. I think it’s emotionally impactful, and evoked a lot of feels that I haven’t had in a Outlander yet this season. Except the one scene Sam and Cait got last episode. I remain forever and ever in love with Fergus and Marsali. And the baby just hanging out in a bassinet balanced on the back of the wagon. Priceless. That is all. Oh, this. So much this. One would think you would stay with your child in life, the one thing that you have of the person you loved. No, I’ll leave my child behind to be cared for by the people who are torturing the man I love, and burn in the fire along with the man who couldn’t make a sacrifice for us to be a family. Does this happen in the book? I don’t recall. I didn’t reread before the season aired as I didn’t want it to ruin tv watching for me as it did last year, but now I’m definitely going back to read the ending so that I can have taken peace of mind and Jamie/Claire time. One last thing. The opening credit I thought was the men drinking Jamie’s whiskey at Ian's wedding. I was so looking forward to it as I wanted to see wee Ian again. Did anyone else think it was that as well?
  9. I guess for me knowing how much material is left, and fitting it into two episodes. Then again the same thing happened with season 3, and it worked okay regardless of some material being cut. I agree that its almost like a foundation season, and that makes sense as a book reader knowing the later story. Personally I find the next two books a slow read, especially the never-ending-day-that-takes-forever-to-read-and-hours-to-get-through and so makes me think the next season will be the same as this. I understand there was a lot of foundation to get through, but it just seems like it could have been done at lot faster than it did!
  10. Unfortunately, I wholly have to agree with you. I haven’t even had the energy to post in the forums this season because I’m just so bored! There were a couple great episodes, and I understand that there is some setup/background story to lay out. But the entire front half of the season is a slow slog to superior levels of boredom, and these last episodes are dragging out now as well. It’s hard to watch. I liked that there are a few surprises as a book reader, especially with the Murtagh story line change, but I’m concerned that J&C storyline is now being overshadowed with Bree/Roger and Murtagh/Regulator stories. Just thinking about down the road, and how on earth it will play out. My sister in law only read the first book, and I’ve read all of them twice. She caught up on seasons 2 and 3 the week before season 4 aired. She was telling me last night that she’s so disappointed she wasted all her time binge watching two entire seasons in 7 days for this “boring and frankly crappy season.” A lot happens, but it’s SO slow. Most stuff could have been cut, shortened, and some J&C focused on a bit more than they have been. I don’t know what they’ll do next season, but I’ll take all my qualms and queries over to the other thread later. I’m nervous for tomorrow’s episode as I feel like it’s going to be a let down again. As a book reader I didn’t much enjoy this season, and I don’t know if I’ll be able to stick through the coming ones. This episode for me, was a bit irritating. Not much progress on the way to find Roger, Bree harshly blackmailing LJG. And LJG carelessly getting it on in the kitchen pantry. Maybe it was done purposefully by show writers so that Bree has visuals (although this was clearly consensual) after her attack/rape by Bonett? I don’t know. It seems like an odd change to make from the book, and out of character for LJG, which most of you have touched on already. Otherwise I liked Jocatsa this ep especially 🤷🏽‍♀️ I think the casting was spot on and Doyle does an EXCELLENT job. Otherwise, give me a show about Fergus and Marsali, and I’m good to go. Why aren’t they living at the ridge yet? Don’t they move there in this book? Or is it the next. I’m getting confused.
  11. Thanks for clarifying all this and all of these theories are completely plausible, make sense, and I agree on all points. I didn’t think of it that way. Murtagh likely didn’t want to know the truth to spare his heart, and probably only recently acquired the ability to freely post letters etc. And so much time has passed I’m sure maybe he didn’t see a need or reason, considering the new life he’s built for himself. Ill pop over to the speculation thread later today and see what’s up 😬 Me too, as soon as he said blacksmith I was internally screaming with joy like a little girl! What does one do when a non-book reader who I watch with every Sunday starts asking questions about how the Murtagh reveal is done in the book? I left it as “it all is revealed in the books” and didn’t answer much further, but I feel like I’ll be destroying the idea of fabulous Murtagh for her if I just say that DG kills him off 😳 any ideas?
  12. YAS! I finally feel like Cait has her mojo back in this episode. I was having trouble seeing her connect with Claire so far this season, but I really felt it this episode and her emotions and fear were portrayed beautifully. I was really please with the writing of this ep, aside from the silversmiths tarty wife. I don’t recall if he received that same letter. But in the buik they are on good terms, she’s graduated and is coming to Scotland or England. She’s sent a box of belongings and there is a letter inside (pretty sure), asking Roger to hang on to the stuff for her until she gets there. He sees that it’s all valuable things, Claire’s set of China I think, and a couple of family heirlooms. So he calls Joe, and asks if Bree is with him. Joe thinks Bree is with Roger. And in turn Roger asks if he’s familiar with the name “James Fraser” and he thinks Bree went to find Claire. Pretty sure Joe’s response was “Oh shit.” But I would have to confirm it 🤓 And Roger enlists Fiona’s help to get himself through the stones and to Bree. I believe my response to seeing her the first time was “great, another leghair wanting to bed Jamie.” And my response the second time was “For F’s sake!” I felt it odd, it’s fine he was looking for the silversmith and that he wasn’t home both times, but she didn’t need to be such a slut about it. Girl Lizzie, we all know what you’re after. The rest of us want Jamie too. Just minus his bangs.
  13. I agree with these points. I didn’t mind Lallybroch, it did seem a tad overdone but I didn’t think too much about it. Riverun however was SO much more than I imagined in the books. The outside worked for me, but the interior was on par with the high class/wealthy Parisian society homes. Maybe they played it out that was to emphasize the vast wealth that she has? In the book we find out especially why later But I still felt it was a bit much for what would have been more reasonable. And for Jamie and Claire’s cabin, someone else mentioned it too; about how they acquired so much stuff!! I understand that some time has passed, but it doesn’t seem like they had that many funds to outfit themselves with so much. I know Jocasta sent them the mattress and some supplies in the Buik but I would have expected a year or more to go by of them living in the Cabin to acquire that much. I missed the comment someone made of Murtagh not writing to Jenny. But excellent point made. I’m intrigued now and I hope they’ve come up with an answer for this. Why wouldn’t he? Unless he is afraid to hear the truth of Jamie’s death and he would have believed him dead all these years? I find it odd. I’m sure mail went missing back then, but it always seemed that Claire and Jamie had no trouble with letters and packages going back and forth to Scotland from America, so I don’t know. I missed the second floor, I recall the buik cabin only being one, and it had a store room/pantry as well. Their bed was by the door, though. think I need to rewatch the episode to get a scope of the cabin again.
  14. I can’t figure out how to also quote what you commented on, maybe being on my mobile it’s not allowing me. I’m happy someone else commented on this. It’s been bothering me for 5 whole days. I’ve been thinking about coming back to mention this, and I’m happy I’m not the only one who caught it. I just wasn’t sure what to say, exactly. Any death is obviously sad, but I doubt they made the choice to change the scene from the book because they didn’t want to show an animal death onscreen. Shaking my head over here. I’ve been reading the thread more than commenting this season, but hope to pop in more often. Also loved Claires pants! My friend just couldn’t wrap her head around it, but I think it was a nice tie to her personality. Plus, it’s just Claire, Jamie, and Ian. So I doubt either of them really cared she was wearing pants! Good news about the writer @Nidratime, I’m glad to hear this. I feel like it was an episode with a lot of potential, all the elements were there. There was just something missing and I couldn’t pin point it.
  15. I agree with this actually. Some rape scenes seem like they’re thrown in for the heck of it. But on the other hand it’s historic reality that this stuff did happen, and still happens today, sadly enough. I do hope they choose wisely how and what to include in the future. Is the barge theft scene this horrific in the books? I don’t fully recall everything, but I don’t think anyone was murdered, and when Claire went to swallow her rings one flew from her hand, and I don’t believe Bonnet pried it from her mouth, or Jamie being beaten as badly as they showed. Maybe being tv they’re just picking the most dramatic things to happen and using those to fill in, as after book 4 I find things slow down a bit for them, and it’s more day to day living their lives. Aside from when the war scenes come around. For me I thought Voyager was literally a slap in the face every turn of page, and things were constantly happening and felt over the top for me. A bunch of things were cut from Voyager though that were dramatic, and I’m grateful for it. Like the scene where Claire and Marsali are attacked by a pirate (I think that’s who) as the Artemis has been set upon, and Claire tries fighting him off and ends up with a massive gash in her arm from a cutlas. I didnt reread Drums before the episode aired on Sunday, purposefully. Now I’m wondering if I should go back and reacquaint myself with the story specifics? I read Voyager before season 3 and found I was constantly picking everything apart and didn’t enjoy it as much. It wasn’t until my third watching of it last week prior to season 4 premiere, that I appreciated it more and enjoyed it thoroughly. I’m also aching for Roger to return to screen, I like his character a lot ??‍♀️
