  1. So did Derick ever sign his own contract? He maintains he never had one. So why would Derick not do the same?
  2. Very interesting @Jeeves. Thank you so much! So what's the timeline on this? The 2014 contracts were for a period of FIVE years IIRC, thereby locking Jill in and mandating that she comply with the show's travel and filming requests. If Jinger signed at the same time, when and how was Jeremy able to negotiate differently? And is this what made Derick so angry? Jeremy was (allegedly) able to negotiate and Derick seemingly was not able to? --------- Derick worked at Wal-mart Jan 2014 Jill and Derick married June 2014. Dillard Ministries established 2014 (prior to Izzy's birth) Opportunity to go to the mission field - prior to Izzy's birth (according to their blog) Izzy born April 6 2015 (footage aired in the fall with first episode of new Jill and Jessa: Counting on) May 2015 quit Wal-mart and moved to Central America and Dillard Ministries starts taking donations. Jeremy and Jinger Courtship June 2016 Sam born July 2017 Derick leaves after twitter tirade summer 2017
  3. I'm so confused by the contracts that were shown in SHP. My understanding was that TLC did not issue individual contracts to each Duggar because TLC signed contracts with the Duggar LLC (which is common practice). Therefore, all payment went to the LLC and the members of the LLC were contractually bound to "perform." So we are shown the contract from 2012 which has the Michelle signature (presumably on behalf of the Duggar children as a representative of the family LLC), but also Josh signing on behalf of himself (though I seem to recall that Anna signed for Josh). This makes me wonder if that snapshot of that contract was really the contract with the LLC - and not TLC at all. Then the 2014 contract which Jill did sign separately the day before her wedding... same scenario. Does anyone have a zoomed out version? Are these contracts directly with TLC? The wording would be so interesting. And I still say that I have no idea why Derick, Mr. wordly accountant, did not think to even look into the contractual obligations until the time of Israel's and then Sam's birth. Instead of looking into it - he quit his stable job with health insurance - and decided to live off of "mission donations" while fathering two children. There have to be conversations that occurred that we don't know about. Did he just assume they'd be taken care of?
  4. isn't plexus supposed to "cure cravings?" So why did Janelle say "I had had have some"
  5. from reddit, the producer's AMA - she expanded on the "Brainwashing" quote
  6. Preceded and followed by 100 references to her own book lol.
  7. Yes I was thinking this too. "These are different times," he might reason. Once they get the book money, they could always send their kids to a private christian school like the one owned by Chad Gallagher LOL/
  8. Joy said in her video that Michelle stayed with them their first night back home with Gunner - "to help with the baby." And she was there the next day too. My impression is that she is actually a helpful grandmother - maybe out of guilt for not being an actual mother?
  9. the title says "season one" - not sure if that means there will be a "season two?"
  10. Derick is a Bitter Betty still...because it benefits him of course. His public image has really done a 180 since 2017 when he was at the bottom of the barrel. After his hate tweet storm, TLC had to release a statement that they were no longer associated. But now... he's found that being anti-JB is extremely popular. He will milk that for all its worth. Edited my comment - deleted a paragraph that contained thoughts I have not fully worked through
  11. Jinger was married in Nov. 2016 - though your point is still well taken. ------------ Side note, is anyone following Tia on instagram. She is posting processing slides and they are powerful. I thought this one was very interesting given Jill and Jinger's alignment with both the Calvinists and and the Southern Baptists. Tia lists all the instagram handles for the IBLP survivors. She does not list Jill. In my opinion Jill is on a different journey at the moment even though the documentary meant to imply that she was on the same one. Yes, I know it will look different for everyone. I just found it interesting that the documentary lumped them all together.
  12. I am sure there is more to all the stories. The contract that was dated 2012 was the one that had Michelle sign on behalf of all the children (even the ones that were adults). The one that was dated 2014 was when the adult children signed individually.
  13. All so confusing. Jill and Jinger were signed for five more years in 2014. Derick presumably never signed anything? Derick was working at as an accountant at Wal-Mart in early 2015. But then he quit with the desire to become lifelong missionaries. People thought this was because he wanted to get away from the very first scandal - but the Dillard Family Ministry was actually founded in 2014. In mid- 2015 after the show was renamed to "Jill and Jessa Counting On," Derick likely thought the name fame would bring in the needed donations - and so he used that moment to quit and pursue "mission work." Things were likely fine for Derick as they were funded by donations and also the Duggar provided house and cars in Arkansas. But... Then along comes Jeremy on the show in 2016 and negotiates his own contracts. The show is increasingly focusing on the Vuolo's. Dillards don't get the most positive press regarding their donations schemes. And Derick proceeds to realize he's totally stuck? His wife is pimped out until 2019 and Derick has zero autonomy - another baby on the way - and no idea what to do. Does that sound right? They are offered a lump sum with strings ... and flips out. Gets a lawyer. Goes on a tweet storm. "Parts ways" He's at the bottom of the barrel in terms of public opinion. Then - he rehabilitates himself by being at his wife's side during her greatest trial - the trial. He goes to law school and does his cryptic tweeting. And now he's ready to tell HER story!
  14. I really think Derick is cherry picking the details he shares. I am all for them being compensated but Derick - the adult with two kids and an accounting degree - made horrible financial decisions himself too. At the time I think he really thought their fame would sustain their "lifetime missionary" work through donations. Derick keeps talking about "minimum wage." It was what JB had "offered." But its also what they actually received after getting a lawyer. I have to wonder why they did not get more $ if they were already working through the courts.
  15. I watched so you don't have to. She does put it on several minutes into the video. They go home with the baby for the first time and tell Gideon and Evy the name "Gunner James!!!" Gideon stomps his feet and pouts cause he doesn't like the name. All I could think was - Me too Giddy, Me too.
  16. I may possibly be giving them too much credit... but any publicly is good publicity. They are using "this moment to expose the dark side of the documentary." LOL Edited to Add LOL so it's clear I don't support them!
  17. https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/article/shiny-happy-people/ Alex Harris who was in the documentary regarding the "Joshua movement" speaks about his participation in the project. He was not sure how his words would be used in the film and was disappointed to see the "broad brushes" and "lack of context" the filmmakers used to link this together with a more general conservative Christian/political movement. Still, he thinks it did a good job at uncovering extremism (even if that extremism was intentionally linked to mainstream movements) and recommends Christians "do not look away." ----- I wonder if Jill feels at all used by the documentary. She did not speak directly about her experience with the IBLP - that was done by the other more vocal participants. She did not even really speak directly about being an IBLP survivor. She - exactly like Derick - seems most upset by JimBob specifically and his deceit. At one point she even says talks about how "public school can brainwash kids" - followed by a scene cut. The docuseries implies that Jill has deconstructed. But I don't think she's at all on the same level as the other more vocal survivors. She has a ways to go to find her voice. And I think she and Derick both fully support the movement to put conservative Christians in high ranking offices. And they are most certainly still anti-LGBT+ policies. So their appearance in this film is odd. It seemed like they were almost used - just to attract attention. They were the odd ducks out - I did find the survivors deeply personal stories very compelling - and very sad.
  18. I wonder if TLC is in a big mess. They listed the kids as minors and had Michelle sign for them - but those kids were adults at the time. That seems pretty damning. The show pivoted to extend from the focus on the IBLP to the larger Christian movement --- those entering into politics from the "Joshua movement" and those influencers loudly launching campaigns against transgenders for example - to reclaim christian values.
  19. Okay episode four is talking about the larger evangelical movement to move Christians into government against the culture crisis. "they are playing the long game and looking generations ahead to further the christian agenda.... the rise of Christian influencers..." This is interesting given Derick/Jill and even Amy's participation. I wonder if they knew this would be included.
  20. This disjointed storytelling continues throughout. It's bouncing around. Jill has not said anything we did not know before.... yet. I am in the middle of episode 3. I don't like Derick but I do like him in this - he's being respectfully quiet enough for me. The series actually talks about the "resolving conflicts privately" as the mantra of the IBLP - which is hilarious because that is exactly what Duggar's family statement says. Makes me wonder if Duggar even watched this.
  21. Derick's versions I will be interested to see which version of events is told in the documentary and the book. If Derick's issues with JB began with Israel's birth, they broke open with Sam's birth - completely understandable. I read somewhere that Jill and Derick were on food stamps and could not pay their medical bills. And JB withheld money via trickery and thievery. But I also question Derick's responsibility in this? Was it not his choice to leave his job and choose to live as begging missionaries? He chose to have children knowing the state of their income and their full dependence on Daddy Duggar. Not just one child, but two. I lose track of their timeline so please correct me if I am wrong regarding his employment and their finances. I also suspect we won't hear about any of Derick's tweet tirades or issues with TLC when he was attacking Nate's family and Jazz. I know he maintains that this had nothing to do with his exit from TLC. ------------------ Also Amy and Deanna? They say the left the series when they found out about Josh. But here they are speaking out about the horrors of the IBLP (which I agree with). Did they not know about IBLP - while on the show for years and years?
  22. I think the timelines are the issue. They did struggle for quite some time but when they were better off, they chose to send him to Christian school? I am just guessing. Rumor has it that JB's father was an alcoholic - so think roller coaster. Up and down and up and down. More rumors state that Mary - deeply religious - is the one that encouraged her young son JB to be that "christian warrior man" and not like her husband who had "failed." (this is according to JB). I guess he translated that to "God will provide so long as I remain faithful?" I am not sure when the IBLP got a hold of them - does anyone know? Agreed. Makes no sense at all! If he truly believed that the pill caused their miscarriage it would mean a moral failing on his part. And if he truly believed that God would provide - so long as he remained faithful - then I can see how they got wrapped up into this mess. But you would think the trauma of being food insecure himself would have overridden that! The larger question is when did his faith become solely about power? Good point. Not sure.
