  1. Will the WB version still come out, that's what I wonder. OT: Does anyone else reckon is quieter on the forums since the change?
  2. Well my main concern is Tom Holland as Spiderman. I'm not convinced he'll be good, but of course we'll have to wait and see. I didn't mind Garfield's Peter, but the second film had a poor story.
  3. As soon as I saw Jesse in that dry wig, I knew I'd never see the film. Horrible casting.
  4. I'm just catching up with events. I checked out during S2, the Crane family drama was a huge bore to me. Sad to see what was genuinely a fun and likeable show go to shit.
  5. Because imo, it will be the start of a bigger trend where white actors play Asians. The excuse of there being no A-list Asians, so white actors have to be cast, or the film will not be made. Is a circular argument that reinforces the status quo of no Asian actors being given opportunities. So I believe Hollywood is deliberately setting the scene for this to become the norm. Plus Akira is the jewel in the manga crown. That movie has been in the works for decades, and Hollywood has been looking to whitewash it from day one. Emile Hirsch was being mooted when he did Speed Racer. Now I like Emile, but no. On the topic of Asian-American actors. Ki Hong Lee stars in Maze Runner, and is one of the bright spots of that movie. I'm curious to see what opportunities will come his way after this franchise, but I'm not hopeful.
  6. Yeah that too. Of course everyone ages, but he looks unrecognisable to me.
  7. The recent GNR reunion has got me wondering about Axl Rose, and what happened to his face. He's done something to himself, but I can't quite put my finger on it. It doesn't seem like a face lift, but there's something off about his face.
  8. This is how I feel about Jesse Eisenberg. He at that nasty dry wig are not right for Lex Luthor imo.
  9. Yes, it bothers me as well. How can his hair go from almost black to almost blond? It's such a miscast. If they wanted to go in a completely different direction, then leave out the flashbacks. Otherwise if they want to tie this story into the film, then they should have applied some continuity to the actor's looks.
  10. I think the actor has been miscast, he has zero charisma or presence for the role. And why does he have to be a typical CW hunk? Blah! The kid in Omen II did such a good job as young Damien, all the adult incarnations have been underwhelming to me. This is probably a nitpick on my part, but I also don't like that he's blond/light brown. I found it to be a boring pilot. I have no idea why they've made him a war photographer, of all professions. It's the sort of thing you expect in fanfiction. His amnesia is understandable as a plot device, but watching him flounder around, trying to find out who he is, was uninteresting. There are other ways they could have introduced internal conflict without dumbing him down. The flashbacks made me want to watch the originals. I'll catch a few more episodes, if things don't improve, I'll be off.
  11. I thought the episode was pure rubbish. I'm surprised at how poor the show currently is, I don't remember it being like this. I had to look up the writers on IMDB to see who has been response for these episodes so far, and I believe some of these guys are the original writers. It just goes to show, maybe some things should be left alone
  12. This is awful. It's like an episode of Grimm, and not even a good one at that. I expect X-Files to be way better than Grimm. ETA: In fairness it did pick up towards the end. I like it when the killer said he had a speech prepared. lol And the actual ending wasn't bad also, it tied it altogether.
  13. I just caught the new episode of x-files and found David Duchovny's face distracting. I haven't seen him in much since the series first ended, but there's something amiss about his face. His eyes seem different, and at no point did his forehead move. He's had something done and I suspect he uses botox.
  14. I'm looking forward to this show, hopefully it's good.
  15. Has anyone seen this new show Lucifer? I saw a trailer and it really reminded me of Sleepy Hollow, apparently one of the SH producers is involved. It seems Fox is shoving SH out the door, and replacing it with this, no? Anyway, to add to some of the discussion; I checked out after the CFD. I could see it coming as soon as they cast John Noble, because the same thing happened in Fringe, which was created by the same team. That was billed as having a great female lead, but really by the end it was all about the men.
  16. Other countries have their issues, but in all my years of consuming media, I think this is something that's more pronounced in Hollywood. I'm used to seeing black people in more varied "race neutral" roles, whereas in a lot of American stuff, both tv and film, race is in play whenever the story involves black or other minority people. It's similar in music also; the genres are basically race coded.
  17. This is the same industry that wouldn't give Selma Hayek a role because a studio couldn't imagine a Mexican in space. Of course they won't know what to do with Lupita. Was it last year that the black family comedy did well over Christmas? Just look at the industry response to that. Mainstream reviewers calling it a "race movie". There was open hostility to its success. If only it were a tale of poverty and despair, I'm sure it would have been well received then. People are kidding themselves if they think the industry is going to change, or even wants to. As with gender, studios know PoC will come out for movies that don't feature them, whereas the reverse isn't true, so why should they change. All I can say is that I will not be watching Ghost in the Shell. My biggest fear with that movie, is that it will lead to the whitewash of Akira. Which I love. Hollywood has spent over a decade and millions trying to find a way to rid the story of any Asian people. I don't understand why they don't just hire Asian-Americans, they could even still set it in Japan, but more likely a futuristic America. I now fear it will just go the way of Ghost in the Shell, they may even be using it as a test.
  18. My relative is a bit of a hoarder. There's some clutter here and there, but it's not out of hand. What is an issue though is organisation. What I've noticed is that she must conceptualise space very differently from the "norm". Like, the room is fine, but she'll leave things behind the door, so you can't open it properly. Magazines, papers etc. They're organised in their own way, but it's the placement behind the door that's so cumbersome. It makes it so you have to semi side-step into the room. She doesn't notice this annoyance, and other ill placed items around the house. Which she says is not big enough, even though it is and there's plenty of space for her things. Also the fridge and cupboards. There's some sorting issues. She'll complain about lack of space, but then I'll reorganise things and they'll fit. Similarly with her shopping trolley. She insists that she can't get everything in there, even though it's a big expanding trolley. It's down to how she packs the groceries. You know you have to do it in a way that fits most stuff in the bag/trolley, but she doesn't seem to be able to do that. She's okay with packing clothes though. It's other more complex/ridged shaped items that causes problems. I wonder if there's been any tests in this area.
  19. Has there been an update on Janet and her daughter Beth. I just watched this episode on youtube, and damn it got to me. Beth was really fighting for her mother, and when the twin turned up! Gotta say, I loved Beth's spirit. Her mother would have died living like that if it were not for her. She wanted to do right by her mum, who seemed like a real nice woman who'd had some tough times. I hope everything turned out well for them, and the two sons who turned up to help.
  20. It still pisses me off. That little scene hinted at how glorious it could have been. On imdb, it seems the writer who came onboard, (he was previously script coordinator), had more recently worked on Sons of Anarchy. So that might explain the gangland storyline and some other elements. This was also his first real writing credit. Travis Jackson.
  21. It starting to seem personal. Not just that they expect Leo to always give good performances.
  22. I agree with your assessment. I don't think it was a fix. Candice and Edmond were never going to win. Their collections were sub-par and inconsistent. I would have given Kelly the win because she had the stronger point of view, and the higher highs. But her collection also had the deeper lows compared to Ashley's designs, which were on trend. Ashley's collection was also the most cohesive and consistent, even though it was safer than Kelly's. Candice is the one who really threw it away imo. I expected more from her, as did the judges.
  23. Looking at the pics, I liked Kelly and Merline's collections. Kelly really did deserve to win.
  24. I was shocked when Kelly didn't win. I was rooting for her, and thought she really pulled it off. She has been the most innovative throughout the competition, and her final collection was the most interesting. I was so sad for her when she lost. Ashley did have a good collection imo. I thought her use of colour was the best, and it was the most cohesive collection. I did not like the waists on the skirts, they seemed bulky and made the models like bigger. I also could have done with less lace. But I did like some of the shapes, and if not Kelly, then she was the next best. Candice. Poor Candice. It was sad to watch her get so beat down. I would have liked to see her original collection. When the model asked her about the wooden skirt (?) I thought for sure she was going to change her mind and include it. I do think she needed to pare things down, but she went too far. Edmond's was basic, trite and boring. I can't stand him. This guy getting the save and through to the final, was absolutely planned. The producers have protected him throughout the competition, despite showing little talent. He had the worst dress on the night, the layered blue number. Horrendous! Yet once again he was treated with kid gloves and the judges spouted some nonsense about him respecting women. It was an example of how weasel worded they've been with him throughout the show. With any other designer, they would have outright said his designs were cheap and his taste levels poor. At best, what he creates can be seen in any basic department store right now, at worst his creations are a cheap tacky mess. There was zero cohesiveness to his collection. In fact it had to be the most random collection in PR history. Yet this guy really thinks he's hot stuff. Delusional!
