    Does anyone know Tarek's family background? What is the origin of el Moussa? And I can't place his mom's accent. Where is she from?

     

    Tarek's mother is from France.  Not sure about his father, but probably from one of the North African former French colonies....Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco?

    My daughter has asked me to ask around about bamboo cutting boards and utensils.  She's thinking of getting some.  Anyone have them?  Pros and cons?

     

    I don't have any tools, but I have a bamboo board that I use all the time.  I also have a hardwood board (maple??) that shows wear and tear much more than the bamboo.  The hardwood needs constant sanding and oiling, whereas the bamboo needs it only occasionally.  I've also heard that bamboo is self-healing and self-sanitizing, but I wash mine with hot, soapy water.  Never use it for meat, poultry or fish.  It seems (to me) that the bamboo is much harder than the usual wood boards.

    I wonder what Jay Leno's older, more conservative audience thought of his stand-up routine on Friday (if they're still watching). I thought the child abuse and masturbation jokes were a little much, and not particularly funny either. I've seen comedians make horrid topics hilarious (Ricky Gervais comes to mind), but Jay didn't pull it off, IMO.

    Yes...the stand-up definitely fell flat....I suppose in Las Vegas when everybody is all liquored up, then it will probably seem hilarious. 

    Enjoyed him more when sitting down and when he was with Lucy Liu, who I found to be quite delightful, unlike the characters she usually plays on TV.(IMHO)  Also liked seeing the Kinks guitarist (although pretty rough looking)

    Me too.  On one show I saw her make over a woman's dining room using a barn door for a table and 12 different chairs that looked like she went out the night before trash day to pick over the stuff people left on the sidewalk.  I thought the woman was going to start to cry.
