  1. I don't think either of them did any homework. I think they both got into this based on what they'd heard from other people, rather than doing the actual research on their own. Danielle isn't capable of that kind of effort because that would be hard, and boring, and she doesn't want to hear that this isn't going to be as easy as paying some money and then just waiting around for the approvals. Mo clearly did not know what he was getting into. That's either because he figured Danielle would do the legwork (she being the American in this couple) or because he's a piss-poor bezness man and didn't ask the right questions before he proposed to Danielle (would LOVE to have witnessed that moment) and got on the plane. Or both. I read on another forum that a poster said she/he had reported the situation to immigration. It would be absolutely hysterical to watch this situation blow up. However, I doubt Homeland Security is the sole shining star of efficiency in the federal government. It's entirely likely that Mohamed will get his papers, no problem. He's very zen about the situation with his son. He thinks it's nuts but he's not foolish enough to butt in. It will either work out or it won't without his interference. I don't get the love for him though. This was a guy who dressed up in a creepy clown costume to "welcome" his future daughter-in-law. Who hates clowns. You can't convince me that wasn't malicious. I can't stand people who do mean, hostile things like that and then try to pass it off as teasing or joking. That's a long way to go to "joke" with someone you barely know. I do not see him as a hero in any way, shape, or form. I don't know what Allah says about this in the Koran, but it's not unusual for followers of any religion to pick and choose which parts they believe and be somewhat flexible in their observance. People, including Jen, often behave differently when a bombshell is dropped on them in front of a camera (and they don't know the mic is picking them up) than when they are well prepared ahead of time and have had ample time to consider how they want to come across on television. Chelsea's Linkedin profile says she has "Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Spanish Language and Literature, Music Business." From the way it's worded, I suspect the music business thing was a minor. She also played the bassoon in the college wind ensemble, which makes me giggle for some reason. I'm picturing Chelsea and Mohamed going on the road together. And selling these on Etsy as a separate income stream.
  2. Let's be honest. What are the chances she paid for any of that? I bet it all went on the credit card, and that bill isn't getting paid either. Hasn't his mother voiced her concerns from the beginning?
  3. I haven't watched the show yet. I have a few questions/thoughts Mohamed took off? Did he go on the honeymoon by himself? I have to say, he has really upped his game. He has gone from amateur Danielle-avoidance to professional level Danielle-avoidance. Gone is the man who was so easily foiled in his attempt to avoid holding Danielle's hand by clasping his behind his back. Now we have a guy who had a (seemingly) bulletproof reason for avoiding the wedding kiss, and who, by taking off, has masterfully killed two birds with one stone. Not only no immediate sex with Danielle, but by leaving he also manufactured a "fight" with her, which could be used as an additional excuse for not only not sexing her, but not even sleeping in the same room with her. He can draw that out for weeks. Months! I think his calls home have been to professional bezeness men who have been helping him strategize. If Brett's mom left, maybe that was for the best. If she really felt he was making the wrong decision and couldn't get over it, better for her to leave than sit there seething and/or pouting the whole time. If you don't support the marriage, it really is a kind of hypocrisy to sit there and pretend that you do. Daya will probably try to f- up the relationship between Cassidy and her grandmother, but she won't be very effective because Brett is a puss and won't support her. Brett is incapable of standing up for himself and his mother knows it. He's the kind of guy who will go out of his way to set up play dates between Cassidy and Grandma behind Daya's back. Well, duh. It's Ramadan! We covered this last week. ;-) From all the descriptions of Cassia's dress, it sounds very cheap and hootchie. But what people are describing (side boob, low cut, showing her lady bits) doesn't sound like this dress. Is this a different dress? It seems pretty tasteful compared to what I was expecting.
  4. Was this the first mention of the one year contract? I swear I'd heard nothing about that before this episode. That's the first concrete piece of information we've had about this "competition." Of the three, Brittany was the right choice. If they chose Kier, she would always be looking for a way to put herself forward and be in the spotlight, and she would constantly be in contentious relationships with everyone around her. If they chose Amanda, she would require a lot more babysitting and encouragement. Brittany, though a bitch at times, has demonstrated over and over that she can think and work independently and proactively, she knows how to act in front of the people who matter, and she knows how to handle her business. You know what they say, "act like you've been here before." That's what she did at the fashion show. And if you ask me, Brittany is the most like DVF, Stefani, and Joanne, who have all been bitches at one point or another during this show. Personally, I think DVF chose her because she's the least likely to embarrass herself or the company. I get what she was saying. She felt as if she'd gone from being a peer and having status as an invited guest to being a faceless employee with no status. Although in her shoes, I would've felt I had one up on the other bloggers because I got to be part of the inner workings behind the scenes.
  5. It seemed like a risky choice to set this challenge up so the models had a chance to wear the outfits out of the building, keep them overnight, and potentially ruin them with food and drink before judging. Especially since - given the standards on this show and the time frame involved - the outfits were probably held together with safety pins and hot glue, I didn't get the "whole wear the outfit on the date then bring it back so the designer can continue working on it" thing.
  6. There have been a lot of comments about what Danielle should have worn. I give her a pass on her dress. I think she did quite well for herself, given her size, budget, location, and lack of fashion sense. Having been morbidly obese at one point in my life, I know buying clothes is never as easy as just shopping around, so I chuckle to read "she should have just bought X". As if there are tons of stores in her area carrying X dirt cheap and in her size. Plus size fashion has grown in popularity, but it's not even close to the options and variety to be found in standard sizes. There's not much variety in terms of styles and colors, and the garments tend to be boxy and unflattering. And special occasion clothes? Fuhgeddabout it. You're lucky if you find something in your size, let alone in your preference of color, style, length, neckline, and sleeve design. Often the choice is between frumpy mother of the bride dresses at department stores, and Lane Bryant's low cut offerings for the big gal who wants to be sexy. Danielle found an appropriate white dress that she liked, that fit her and was (hopefully) within her budget. And if it didn't have sleeves and a hem all the way to the ground, oh well. ETA: Did neither Mo nor Danielle's son know that the boutonniere goes on the man's lapel? That kid stuck that flower on there like he was playing pin the tail on the donkey.
  7. The thing I thought was weird is that everyone was standing around watching the ceremony. I know it takes 5 minutes to get married, but couldn't they have found a couple of benches or something? It's like the family was a bunch of campers wandering past and they stopped to gawk at an impromptu wedding.
  8. Daya and Brett's mom also spent the first few days alone together with Cassidy while Brett was at work/school. Apparently that time together did nothing to mitigate mom's first impression. Purchased, no doubt, in anticipation of Mohamed's arrival. I'm sure she had plans for the two of them in that bed. When you think about it, that makes his flat out refusal to sleep in it with her an extra slap in the face. Especially since she probably went into (further) debt to buy it.
  9. And Mo probably was not aware of the possible implications of being on the show, as far as his immigration status goes. I doubt Danielle ever thought of that, but if she had, she probably would have kept it from him.
  10. And money. Probably money was her first consideration. TLC isn't paying them Duggar/Honey BooBoo/Cake Boss money, but it's got to be at least several thousand dollars. While that's not "quit your day job" money, it's enough to keep her rent and utilities paid for quite a while. Add in Mohamed working and bringing in additional income, and Danielle probably thought her financial woes were nearing an end. ETA: Yeah, I don't buy that tumblr stuff either. Anonymous, second and third hand gossip/speculation doesn't carry much weight with me. Particularly as relates to a married couple's intimate relationship.
  11. Worst advice ever. Danny has a lot of maturing to do before he'd be a good father. He needs to be married for a while and learn how to consider other people and their needs and not focus exclusively on what works for him. (i.e. bringing his fiance from halfway around world, dumping her in a stranger's house, and leaving her to her own devices for the entire next day because that's what is convenient for him. And oh yeah, not bothering to explain or discuss this plan with her ahead of time.)
  12. It's pretty obvious if you know what to look for. You can see the edge around Danielle's hair where they cut away the background She doesn't have a lot of smarts, but she sure was aware enough to try to hide her financial situation from him. That, and the fact that she clearly did not expect any kind of comfort or understanding from him when she lost her job, tells me she's not completely oblivious to the realty of their relationship. In her gut, she knows the score.
  13. That made cringe big time. I started counting the "likes" and gave up after #7 in under 30 seconds. The thing I find so interesting about this situation is Kier and Brittany are just like Stefani and red haired lady. They are four peas in a bitchy little pod. I don't believe for a minute that red-head has an interest in Amanda. "You're my favorite"? Give me a break. The little pep talks and pointed notes DVF and her minions have given Amanda are to poke and prod and manipulate her bitchiness to the surface, and Amanda is rising to the occasion. Amanda is patting herself on the back for standing up for herself, and for being the "nice" one. Meanwhile, she's acting like a total bitch. Just like everyone else. There was no need for her to break in with that "I'm 21, I've done 3 internships, I went to fashion college, what have YOU done" crap when Diane was asking Brittany and Kier why they should win. That wasn't defending herself, that was straight up rude and inappropriate. Those women are playing her like a violin. Now Amanda has bought into the idea that she's so much more accomplished than the others and it just makes me laugh, because the DVF team is blowing smoke up her butt and sooner or later, they're going to knock her back down again. For some reason, the boast "I went to fashion college" just makes me laugh my ass off. She's so impressed with herself. Honey, save the bragging until you have a degree.
  14. I'm not thinking about how the fashion show influences the outcome of the competition. I thinking of all of the stylists, celebs, and potential customers in the audience. Particularly in the case of Brett's clutches. All of the models were carrying her clutches low on one side of their bodies, which means probably half of the people didn't see them. If I'm not going to win the fashion fund, I at least want as many people to see them as possible at events like that. But perhaps they've thought of that and are doing something else about it, like handing out little program books or something...
  15. We certainly didn't see much of that this last episode, did we? I guess Mohamed found the one way to get her off of him: piss her off by threatening her little romantic fairy tale. I will be really interested to see how the kiss at the end of the ceremony goes in next week's ceremony. I wonder if her relatives will do that thing where they tap on their glasses to get the bride and groom to kiss. Oh wait a minute, they have no money for a reception. If there are any beverages, no doubt they will be served in red Solo cups. Oh, wait another minute. I'm sure he'll tell her in his culture they don't kiss at weddings and it would be inappropriate to be so vulgar in public.
  16. I didn't see the Paul Andrew win coming either. The judges didn't really seem to warm to him, his presentation didn't go that well, and his ad wasn't good. The only thing that would've surprised me more is if they'd given it to Simon Miller or Edie Parker. But congrats to him! I guess investing $30K in those boots really paid off. And now he can stop working for everyone else. I was glad for Eva. I wonder why she didn't win, since all the judges seemed to like her, she did well in every phase of the competition, and could certainly benefit greatly from winning. I don't get why Paul over Eva. But in any case, I really liked her personality, and once I got a good look at her jewelry, (thanks to whoever posted the link upthread) I had much more appreciation for that as well. I loved that "We can have fun, but you better show up on time to have fun with me!" I was both surprised and not surprised by the decision on Ryan. Not surprised because the judges have loved her from the get-go, although it always seemed like it was something they liked about her as a person, as opposed to the sweaters. But also surprised because of what she makes. The sweaters seem very snuggly and soft, but they are shapeless and bulky. I certainly don't envision her as one of the next big things in American fashion, which I thought was sort of the point of the competition, isn't it? I can't picture any of the female judges ever wearing a Ryan Roche sweater. But clearly Ryan could benefit the most from the money and the advice, so maybe that's why they gave it to her. I also want to know what's up with the babies at the fashion show. Does Ryan make baby clothes as part of her collection? And if so, why would she send them over to Vogue for the show? Or did Vogue have the idea about using kids and then ask her to send baby clothes? And where did they rent those babies? (Then again, it is LA and there's no better place to find beautiful, camera-ready infants happy to be carried around by total strangers, in front of hundreds of other strangers, cameras, and commotion without batting an eye, spitting up, or screaming for mommy.) Speaking of the LA event. That seemed a bit unfair to me. A fashion show shows off clothes to their best advantage, but accessories need to be seen up close and for more than a few seconds as a model walks by. It wasn't so bad for Gigi and Grey Ant, but seemed a disadvantage for the other accessories designers. The models were all carrying Brett's clutches down by their sides, so probably half the people couldn't even see them. Eva's jewelry is so delicate you blink and miss it. And some of Paul's models were wearing long dresses that obscured the shoes. I think those three could've benefited from a different type of presentation. Minimally, all of their models should've been wearing some sort of "uniform" that allowed the bags/hats/shoes to be the star. I don't understand why they did that for Grey Ant, but not the others. In any case, I do like this show, and if they have it again next year, I'll definitely watch it again. It will be interesting to see if Orley ever comes back. Although I don't really understand the point of choosing a menswear designer as a finalist and at the end telling them they should be doing women's wear instead.
  17. To be fair, I don't think I've seen either of them whining about being broke. Danielle has said a couple of times they don't have a lot of money for things like wedding gown, venue, etc, and doesn't know where she'll get money to pay for his immigration stuff, but she's just stated it as fact. I don't think I've ever heard her complain about it. Mohamed was very upset that she lied, and clearly thinks she is irresponsible with money, but hasn't bitched about how poor they are. In my opinion, Mohamed does have a legit right to be upset about her deception since the minute he marries her, it becomes his debt too. But he's not very smart when it comes to this con. The only leverage he has is the threat of walking away. When they were behind closed doors, that was his opportunity to demand that she be 100% honest, or the wedding would not happen. Instead, he let her put him off again. And once they're married, what motivation does she have to be forthcoming? If she throws away all of her statements (which she probably does), he has no way of finding out what's going on unless he intercepts all the mail before it gets to her. As someone said above, it's a game of chicken. She won't tell until they're married. He won't marry her until she tells. But dumbass Mohamed he gave in. Game over. Danielle wins.
  18. So then you think "hey! why not import another mouth to feed!"
  19. I have yet to see him open a door for Amy or seat her before he seats himself. For some reason, I expect a guy like Danny, who is so old fashioned in his views about sex to also have old-fashioned, gentlemanly manners. But I guess unlike premarital sex, there's no sin attached to letting the lady open her own damn car door.
  20. I DVR'd this episode and I was going to watch it, but after reading the comments here, never mind. This show is just bad. It probably seemed like a great idea on paper. Get some fashion-minded, attractive 20 somethings and have them compete for an exciting opportunity at a prestigious fashion house. But good grief is the execution of the concept off base. The cast is immature and forgettable, the "challenges" were poorly defined (if at all), the prize is as vague as can be, at no point do I feel like I'm getting a real behind the scenes look at the inner workings of DVF, and Diane and her team come across as completely bitchy, which kills any sort of aspirational vibe they may be trying to create. Everything is bad, but not bad enough to be awesomely bad/love to hate. The producers of this show screwed up from go.
  21. Her problem isn't that she can't dream. It's that she can't face reality. Paying her bills, providing a stable home for her children, and holding down a job should be her highest priorities right now. But clearly they aren't. She was far more concerned about Mohamed leaving than she ever was about moving him into the house with her impressionable young daughters. It is very telling that the first time she showed any concern for her daughters was actually thinly veiled concern for herself, a la "my daughters were upset all day, worrying that you were going to stand ME up." As for Mohamed, he's screwed. The longer he stays with Danielle, the more entangled he gets in her situation, and the harder it will be to extricate himself. When he finally ends it, either before or after they marry, it will be uuuuuugly. And the longer he waits, the uglier it will be.
  22. I would buy that if they didn't have this exact same problem before she even got here. In the very first episode when these two were introduced, she was having a hissy fit because he hadn't texted her that morning because he was working. In fact, if I recall correctly, her anger over that was why she was threatening to not show up at the airport.
  23. I don't get the impression that she's worried about him straying. The feeling I get is that this is very simple. Chelsea wanted to go home. Chelsea did not want to be separated from Yamir. Therefore, Yamir went home with Chelsea. And because America is awesome, surely something great will work out for the two of them. I am convinced that was the entirely of the plan and the sum total of forethought that went into it.
  24. She wants to be the center of his attention. That's not the same as loving him. Here's what I don't understand about the whole "Cassia doesn't want to be at the auction" thing. That's four hours out of the day. Maybe 5 or 6 if it involved a long drive. What's he doing the whole rest of the day that he can't spend any time with her? It's really not clear to me whether he really is making zero time for her, or if she simply resents any time he's focused on something besides her. I have a hard time believing he's spending every waking moment at auctions, and we know by looking at that house he's not spending copious amounts of time getting his crap in order.
  25. Maybe they'll go really old school and after Danny and Amy DO EET, they'll hang the bedsheet out the window so everyone can see the blood stains. She does? I'm not picking up on that at all. I don't think there was anything at all wrong with him going to an attorney. If she was smart, and if she really cared about him, as well as her own finances, she should've gone with him, and they both should've gone weeks before, so they both understand exactly what they're getting into. They both know the score here. They're not marrying for love, and they both know it. She complains when he goes without her. She complains when she goes with him. If he dropped her off somewhere, she'd complain about that too.
