  1. I think the person above meant that Gaby and Robert have also talked about Taylor and Lex dating. I actually don't think they're a ruse for the show - they've been together since at least January, from their social media etc. I like how they're open about it so it's totally a non-issue. One of those interviewers backstage was all annoying and 'sooooo a little birdie tells me you're dating Taylor, is that true?!?!' and Lex was just like 'yeah I am' lol.
  2. Totally totally agree with your analysis of the group routines being a truer showcase of the contestants relative to each other. Lex is my favourite and he shines so much in the group routines, no matter what the style but his partnership with Gaby isn't working yet for some reason. I really liked Gaby in her season, but as an All-Star she's starting to bug me. She was totally outdanced by Lex in the few moments Lex wasn't sitting down on a chair lol (what is up with the choreography highlighting the All Star and not the contestant?!) Oh I didn't even notice that Taylor fell out of her cartwheel in the group routine, good spot - had to go back and rewatch it. Also, in the beginning when the 4 boys jump into a pirouette, Kiki can't stick the landing and has to take a step out to balance himself. This is why I think the contestants should get the opportunity to dance with each other, because as you pointed out above, how they do with an All Star is entirely dependent on the All Star themselves. Either you get Jenna and Gaby being highlighted in routines instead of the contestants - in Kiki's case, probably for the better, and in Lex's case, to his detriment - OR routines being simplified if it's not in the style of the All Star. Also as an aside, I have to commend Marko - he is such a fantastic partner. He elevates every routine, there's no nervousness about him not being able to do whatever style they've got because it's just a given that he's such a good dancer, BUT he doesn't hog the camera or the narrative like Jenna etc. 4 for you Marko, you go Marko!
  3. I totally agree with you re. Lex-Gaby. I thought he outdanced her - in the sections we actually got to see him dance with her lol and not just sit on a chair - and her personality and vibe with him is a little odd. Like you, I really liked her on her season and actually thought she'd be perfect for Lex, since she was pretty young and wouldn't look too much older than him in romantic/coupley routines and also is very versatile and can do most styles well. But it's been a little strange this season, and her slightly sarcastic, 'playfully hitting/admonishing' Lex thing isn't really working - I almost feel he would've been better off with someone like Allison who I find incredibly annoying but would at least be able to actually mentor him. Or Jasmine because that would be the dream LEGS pair. They could've just stood for a minute and a half extending their legs haha. I love Lex and am going to support him DESPITE the slightly muddled arc that TPTB are trying to give him ('no personality', giving him all the non-contemporary styles in the beginning, strangely choreographed routines that don't actually highlight him), and I say despite because I'm sure there are a lot of people who think he's being pimped (I actually think they're pimping Kiki far more and far less deservedly), and I hope that doesn't work against him, because at the end of the day he's a fantastic dancer and seems like a humble, likeable guy. He shines in every group routine, and I don't think it's because he's not good at partner work because the section in the disco number from last week where he dances with Comfort was really fun to watch.
  4. So it seems like a mixed bag, even in terms of comments. If I think about it, there wasn't one routine that stuck out to me as incredible OR one that was terrible (though the hip hop was laughably watered down) and that might be the problem. I think a few of these dancers are so talented and cross-trained that they will perform well in multiple styles, leaving us confused on who is a front-runner for a while. On Lex, I still really like him and I don't agree that not hamming it up for the camera and making cutesy 'vote for me' faces equals a lack of personality. His personality is humble and sweet and I don't think there's anything wrong with that - could he come out of his shell more? Sure, but that will take a few more weeks, just as it would take someone with less technical ability a few more weeks to grow as a dancer. For someone as talented as him, I'm glad he seems humble as opposed to cocky. I agree with you - the AT wasn't the best and he probably isn't the most convincing male ballroom lead lol, BUT if you re-watch it he literally does zero dancing and that's the choreography/style at fault. He just had to walk Gaby down the stage super slowly while she did all the fancy footwork. And yeah, the bulky suit made it look even more awkward - in the disco group number, you could see him clearly and he was doing the ballroom/disco style very well. As someone above pointed out, the point of these routines should be to showcase the competitor, not the all-star and even in Logan's number, Allison got to dance for a good 20 seconds before he even moved out of his chair. If the AT simply can't be choreographed to showcase the male, then give a male competitor a different ballroom style, such as salsa or cha-cha, so you can at least judge his actual dancing in the style. The Bollywood was fun, but I don't agree with someone who said Dassy outdanced Fik Shun - she is adorable and I really like her, but she didn't get the sexy hips movement that you need in a Bollywood routine - for some reason, maybe because of her popping style, her hips seemed strangely static. I'm Indian and I was really surprised at how well Fik Shun danced that Bollywood haha - I know he did it well before in his season, but in this dance he really got the style and vibe of the routine down and seemed so comfortable in it! Hated the hip hop and I wasn't a fan of Kiki before buuut how come no one's mentioning his solo. I have to reluctantly admit that that was a great ballroom solo and actually made me sit up and notice him. Robert wasn't my favourite contestant or anything, but yeah it was so obvious that Nigel inserted that random 'no emotion' comment just to justify sending him home over Sydney. I'm mainly sad we won't get to see Jasmine dance any more.
  5. Agreed on Russell and Season 6 in general, but let's not forget, Season 6 gave us Kathryn <3 (and Jakob, for that matter)
  6. True. I guess I just don't like Jenna very much. All the other All Stars I am fond of, even if some of them weren't necessarily my all time favourites during their respective seasons. An exception is obviously Cyrus, but that's more because of him not being great in other styles, not really a personality thing. Idk why Jenna just leaves me cold. If they had to get a ballroom girl, I would've loved Lindsay (who Jensen unfortunately doesn't hold a candle to, in my opinion) or Chelsie.
  7. I do get what you mean about Gaby being an odd choice for Lex minus the shaping sound connection. But honestly, as someone who has been rewetting Lex's audition over and over again since I first saw it, I tried to think before the Academy episode of who I'd want him to be paired with most. Surprisingly, Gaby was the person I ended up deciding on. My process of elimination was - I very stereotypically I admit eliminated the guys because I'd love to see Lex paired with a girl, since most of his Youtube stuff is solo or with other guys (not a Nigel no homo, don't worry - I'd love to see him dance with other guys too!). That leaves the girls, and I did want him to be paired with a contemporary girl/girl who does most styles well, which in my head rules out Comfort (who I love, but probably wouldn't elevate the contemporary routines as much as hip hop) and Jenna (ugh). That left Allison, Jasmine and Gaby. Allison annoys the hell out of me with her overacting during any 'emotional' contemporary plus she's one of the older ones around so while technically amazing, probably wouldn't share a modern, fun chemistry with him - it would feel very much like older sister and kid brother. Jasmine is a beast, but I think she would dominate him physically as she is so tall and let's face it, you can't take your eyes off Jasmine when she dances so it might not be a good enough showcase for Lex's talents. Gaby seemed like the perfect fit when I thought about it - she has a similar personality in that she's not overtly Type A annoying SYTYCD dancer who feels the need to ham for the camera all the time (another reason I'm loving Lex so far apart from his insane dancing plus she killed all styles in her season so would allow Lex to dance multiple styles, including tap which he apparently knows and would be a great card up his sleeve to reveal at the right time. I think Lex-Gaby, the Japanese contemporary dancer and Marko, Fik-Shun-Dassy, and Paul and the ballroom girl seem like good fits so far! I desperately wish Kiki hadn't ended up with Jenna even though now after reading this thread I realise there's this whole DWTS connection. I like him but he should have first had to prove himself in another round, and secondly, ended up with someone like Jasmine perhaps or even Robert, who would help him develop further and not just essentially be a ballroom partner.
