  1. Ah, carbonaro you caloriffic delight! Tonight I made one of my frequent rotations of penne pasta and asparagus with a simple sauce of butter, parmesan/romano and garlic. I tell myself that the flavor of the pasta comes through better than with a tomato sauce. I love me a good crab cake but am not good at making them and sadly most restaurants in my experience use inferior crab, too much filler, and then they over season to disguise the fishy-tasting crab. For which they charge an arm and a leg. My local supermarket had a BOGO special for cold pressed watermelon juice and as much as I adore watermelon, I found the juice to be somewhat cloying. I guess there's a reason I don't drink the juice out of the bottom of the dish after I eat watermelon.
  2. There aren't any where I currently live, but I remain a staunch fan of Jack in the Box and will search them out if I'm out West. I'll grant that some of it might be nostalgia since that was our household's go-to quick meal when I was growing up. Jumbo Jack and onion rings, please! Their old fashioned hamburgers (with mayo), seasoned fries, and low prices are plus points for Checkers. Last summer Arby's had a special BLT made with brown sugar bacon and I'm hoping they bring that back this year. (Although out of all fast food, that's probably one of the easiest to make at home.) I had never eaten there before but a coupon for the BLT drew me in. I've been back a couple of times since for a Reuben sandwich.
  3. Doughy failure after failure this week, which was a bit unpleasant/stressful to watch. It's not Candice's fault she has such pronounced bow lips, but it is her decision to play them up with intense lipstick colors. I'm having trouble seeing past it to the person.
  4. Beef and bean burritos, and you'd better believe I pile on the guacamole and sour cream toppings.
  5. I really like Pegg's* Scotty and his friendship with Keenser, but then I have a hopeless blind spot for the series in general. I almost never rewatch movies but these are comforting in an unexplainable way and I've watched them 5-6 times. *I'm unfamiliar with his personal life and any peccadilloes and am going to preserve my illusions and not search.
  6. Jerrod Carmichael has been doing the talk show rounds lately and reminded me that I find his preening ego and political views detestable. "What's so wrong with building a wall?" "Now that I have money, I agree with the Republicans." "I still feel sorry for Cosby." Chuckling while he talks doesn't make the content okay. He can bite me.
  7. Gosh, the gnashing of teeth because a dog was killed on The Mist. It's a horror movie for crying out loud; adults have already died or been murdered and I reckon kids are next. The dog was introduced in the opening scene and chewed up by a mist monster three minutes in. Unless I'm invested in a character -- person or animal -- I'm not bothered by them dying. It's not real.
  8. From your mouth ... I still miss Joy's shows on HLN and Current. She always moderated her panelists really well.
  9. Jerrod is one of those people I hate for no good reason* so I was a little disappointed to hear Trevor refer to him as a friend. I record all the late night talk shows and him making the rounds recently has required a lot of fast-forwarding on my part. *Well, some reasons: his arrogance, self-regard, and politics.
  10. She then ran away without taking the satchel o' dough! I have the say, the owner of the house was much calmer about finding a stranger in his kitchen than I would have been. "Who are you? Shoo, now." Give me a quick monster disemboweling over smothering by cockroaches any day. None of the deaths upset me, including the dog's.
  11. I mostly agree but also disliked the Frances Conroy character, which may exceed my hate quota. I counted to ten waiting for the chewed-up sex ed mom to be thrown back against the glass mall door, and it was right on time. Ugh. I don't watch much horror so the show was a reach for me anyway.
  12. Well, shit. I stopped watching Survivor after Rupert's (first) season, so I hope this doesn't play out the same way.
  13. I read that as a "friggin nun" and wondered how I'd missed that.
  14. What a sad blow. The family is so close and loving but hopefully those bonds will help them get through this.
  15. Despite my liking for the show and Trevor, I've been on a cowardly news blackout for months. And this is the week I pick to start watching TDS again. Oy. Absent any mood stabilizers, it's back to fluff reality shows, comedy podcasts, and cosy books for me.
  16. This must happen IRL I guess, but hardly anyone on TV can go a day without blurting out something secret and/or embarrassing about another person only to find out that the person is standing behind them. I also blame the people listening for never stopping said blurter in time.
  17. Now I'm remembering all Barbara's sexual innuendoes over the years. I'll never get to sleep.

    Wonder Woman (2017)

Yeo. The movie was a lot of ups and downs for me, expectations wise.
  19. I think Twitter can be kept pretty low key/private if you're not active. I've had an account since 2008 and have sent 0 tweets. No followers, not following anyone. Facebook does the same thing with hiding and obscuring content unless you log in, but I'd rather miss reading something than submit to their world domination.
  20. Richard Brautigan. I like all his books, but especially The Abortion and A Confederate General from Big Sur. I first read them in the 70s and maybe some of the carefree, hippy-dippy attitude in his poetry especially doesn't hold up that well, but his novels remain very nostalgic for me and I still re-read them. I also still dip into Lawrence Ferlinghetti's poetry. Thanks for the reminder! I might have to splurge and buy the ebooks just to reread. Who can resist Amelia?
  21. Spicy chicken corn chowder and zucchini fritters.
  22. I can understand discontinuing products more than I can changing the established taste. There are several foods I used to like that I think were spoiled by an update. Seems like an item would either be popular enough to continue selling as is, or jettison if not. Don't turn it into something else!
  23. The guy from Politico was extremely annoying to me. Maybe his tone of voice? The way he kept plugging his site? At least I know not to watch if he's ever a guest again.
  24. Allison Tolman was on Kimmel last night and mentioned that Ned has his own car with air conditioning so he doesn't get overheated between takes (because if he starts panting, they can't film). She specifically said "car," but I certainly hope he and his trainer(s) have a danged trailer on set where Ned can chill. I hate to think of him cooped up in a car! Allison also said Ned has a large stuffed dog as his stand in and Ned doesn't like it at all. Took an ear off once. :-)
