  1. Those were my rankings as well. I thought the detail on Jason's was awesome and l always go for legibility over a murky image with packed color. To me, Laura's needed a lot more open skin. It was the best finale in a while although too much time was spent on the coaches' tattoos at the expense of the three finalists. The coaches all turned out great work, though, and I wouldn't have liked being forced to rank them. I might have given the edge to Bubba's surreallism, tbh. Nikki's was beautiful as well. I felt like in the end, Peck wanted to give the win to Dani but couldn't bring himself to reward someone with so little experience. Or he just went with report card for the season. Two new spin-offs a'coming!
  2. I only have room in my appetite for one serving of legal shenanigans, and All Rise wins for me, too. The father/daughter/dead mother emotional trauma is a tedious distraction. The rest of y'all have fun, though!
  3. Here's another link from Entertainment Weekly with voters explaining their ballots. It's from last year but I think you need to be a subscriber to see the recent one.
  4. I always enjoy reading the annual articles from anonymous Academy members who explain why they voted the way they did. Not infrequently they admit to not watching a show, voting for a person because they like them, feel they were slighted for a previous role, etc. TV is so different now. Cable shows were only allowed to compete for Emmys starting in 1988. Bet the Big 4 didn't foresee themselves being squeezed almost out of existence by the upstarts!
  5. I watched Touch of Cloth this week (Amazon). It's a British detective series from 2012 that pokes fun at detective tropes and stereotypes. Three seasons, but each is only one 90-minute episode. I think anyone who watches detective fiction will get a kick out of it. Example: in the first few minutes of the first episode, the two leads speak to each other using acronyms for ACC, DAC, SO, OS, ASAP, CCTV, DNA, VSU, AWOL, OMFG, and S.H.I.T. Stars Suranne Jones and John Hannah.
  6. I was looking for more info on Dr. T and found this press release from May about other new series on Nat Geo Wild. (It also looks like her show had a name change.) Nat Geo Wild has ordered six new series, including “Critter Fixers,” which premieres this fall and follows two friends who own and operate Critter Fixer Veterinary Hospital outside of Atlanta. “Homestead Vets” focuses on a husband and wife team who care for the animals of Midwestern farmers. “Animal SOS” drops into the world of wildlife rescuers in India — where dedicated guardians of the animal kingdom keep everything from elephants and tigers to leopards and hyenas safe from animal-human encounters. Those will be joined by “Zoo Tampa,” “Lonestar Vet,” and “Prairie Dog Manor. Enough to keep us all happy, I'd say!
  7. And yet it will still inevitably be nominated for an Emmy in the Specials/Live/Shitshow category. Yes! The days when being on basic cable was so embarrassing they had to make up their own awards show.
  8. Using sugar on the prolapsed uterus made me smile because Dr. Heriott talked about doing that in the 40s in All Creatures Great and Small. That the farmer even had an entire bucket of it on hand was interesting. The various animals with prolapses don't seem to be in a lot of pain from it, which always amazes me. I mean, their insides are out! Also odd is that uterus or rectum goes back into the body spattered with dirt, hay, bits of feces, etc. Antibiotics or not, just stitch it back in and we're good to go! Jeepers. It's surprising that the cat who was shot even managed to make it home with all those broken bones. Poor sweet thing; never a hiss or yowl out of him. I can't help but think that some of the dedicated vet hospitals, or even Dr. Petra, could have operated to save the second leg, but it's very realistic for that not to be an option for a lot of pet owners, given distance and cost. Now that women make up more than than 80% of new vets, I wonder how many will want to go into large animal practice and if it's going to be harder and harder for farmers to get care for their livestock. We know a lot of urban vets won't even treat hamsters, snakes, mini pigs, etc. in their clinics.
  9. I happened on a You Tube channel recently that tests the knowledge of kids and adults about current vs older music, movies, etc. Here's one with teens trying to identify their grandparents' favorite songs. It's cute.
  10. I wonder if Iris was ever able to extrapolate from Amber's behavior to her own? They both misinterpreted their spouses' behavior in the same general way. Iris clearly didn't understand that going through the physical motions of intimacy (lying together, being supportive) does not necessarily translate to real closeness, while Amber assumed that Matt having sex with her, or even holding the most minimal of conversations, must mean he liked her. It's been 15 years now, but maybe they both need to dig out $1 and pick up a used bookstore copy of He's Just Not That Into You.
  11. It's not the tragedies themselves for me, but the catharsis of getting an answer. I won't watch any unsolved mystery type shows; those just chafe. I enjoy following the minutia of detective work and seeing how the techniques of forensic science helped (or didn't) track down the perpetrators. Crime shows present an extremely tidy morality tale with some satisfying justice thrown in. I also read and watch a lot of fictional content in the mystery and detective genre for the same reasons. In addition, those tend to be series and I really like settling into familiar worlds and spending time with well-loved characters. Many fictional detectives these days have the obligatory dark or tortured side, but they're generally presented as being on the side of good and sometimes even noble.
  12. I just want to go around the room and tape Iris' mouth, snatch her wig, tie Matt's manspreading knees together, throw away Amber's earrings, give Beth some pettipants, and put Iris' wig on Jamie.
  13. If a wife walks in on her husband having sex with another woman, the mistress is pretty consistently on top. If cable, the audience then gets to see her breasts, but if not, she's facing a bit sideways and we're still treated to her naked back. I'm sure that has happened IRL too, but TV leans on it real hard.
  14. I had a slight water leak from my A/C unit in the garage that, over time, seeped into the adjoining wall inside the house. The repair workers, among other things, removed the baseboards and set up three 4' tall heater fans that are blowing onto the wall in my breakfast nook to help dry it out. There is also a large hose taped to the floor for 13' that wraps around the kitchen faucet and drains into the sink, plus the bleach smell of the mold remediation process. And of course the workers are clomping over here once or twice a day to check the wall for dryness. The heater fans are about 80 db, so not terribly loud but certainly noticeable. They give off enough heat to raise the temp a couple of degrees inside the house. I've retreated to my bedroom with the door closed. How long does it take to dry out a wall, you ask? I don't even know, but it's been four shitting days so far. Now this is all before the bulk of the project begins, which is to remove the furnace, A/C and water heater in the garage and rebuild the wooden platform they stand on, which is buckled and peeling because of the water damage. That will require me going to a hotel for a couple of days because it's still in the low 90s in central Florida and I'm not about to sit in a sweatbox while repairs are done. I'M OVER IT!!
  15. Thanks, @car54! Dang HGTV for their stupid scheduling. I like Dave and Kortney and their contractors and corny landscaper. It's the only show I've seen that features a design assistant on camera. I think they have higher profits because they always add on, often more than doubling the size of a house. Kortney's color choices are generally not my own but at least she's not stuck in one particular style and it makes it more interesting to watch. To get this off my chest ... in one episode Dave kept saying there's no such word as "littler." YES there is, Dave! Little, littler, littlest. Spellcheck approves.
  16. The medical interactions were interesting to me. The nurse certainly wasn't mean, and I wouldn't even call her indifferent. She was just very pragmatic and unemotional. I found that to be very true to life. I thought it was pretty standard practice thee days to have someone trained as a rape counselor stay with the victim at the police station and hospital to provide guidance and emotional support, but I guess that varies by area.
  17. I blame the ugly uniforms! Baggy, rumpled khaki shirts and pants do nobody any favors. I was very happy to see on tonight's episode that their elephant babies are healthy and thriving. It's always interesting to me to see how much is involved in moving huge animals
  18. What a great show! I haven't been interested enough to speed binge an entire series in a while. I really liked some of the smaller moments, such as Karen and her husband working different shifts. It wasn't a plot point in any way, it just was. Easier to get minor details right when it's a true story, but they made things feel much more normal and lived in. Same with Karen being religious, although that did inform her character's personality and motivations. Was Wever supposed to be playing younger? Collette is only seven years her senior. It's not like there are age requirements for mentors, but some of the dialog made it seem like there was supposed to be a larger age gap. We know Collette is capable of pulling off an perfect American accent, but the actress who played Amber is also Australian and did a similarly great job. I saw her in the movie Dumplin' where she was not only American, but a small town Texan. I'm really bad at accents, so it always impresses me. I may have missed it, but did they ever find out the password to McCarthy's hard drive?
  19. My favorite scene so far is Karen yelling at her team members. I adore Wever to bits and Collette is bringing it as usual. Both are powerhouse actors and mesmerizing to watch. Episode one was too sad; I had to quit halfway through and skip forward to the start of the investigation. Looking forward to watching these two determined, clever, fierce women track down that rapist asshole.
  20. I enjoy Stephanie Lee, a therapist who does a review of the show on You Tube. She was pretty salty this week about Keith saying no and was definitely on the side of the experts giving him the stink eye. Made me chuckle. Keith is certainly not blameless, but why should he wait around for a high strung motormouth who gets shrieky about dropped wedding rings, empty condom boxes, lemonade, pillowcases touching outdoor clothes, etc. I think he'd still have serious reservations even if Iris' precious hymen was no more.
  21. That she went into the Decision Room thinking her marriage/relationship was good just indicates how little she understands adult interactions, or even romantic love. I wish her well but don't have a lot of hope that she'll be able to break free of her arrested development when she doesn't even realize a problem exists. It's not about your virginity, Iris!
  22. Jamie and Beth opt for a basic Caucasian marriage, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf style.
  23. I also 100% regret that you were on this show, Matt.
  24. Her attitude towards Keith and their relationship on Unfiltered wasn't positive, either, so it's not a shock.
