  1. I have to shake my head a little when people complain that a network or streamer did "no advertising" for [X] new show and they never heard a word about it. Well. They also probably use ad blockers online, FF through commercials on recorded shows, mute or minimize unskippable ads on demand, etc. Not sure where they were expecting to have new series presented to them on a silver platter. Also, why not put in a minimum of effort to educate themselves? I spend 15 minutes a week at Metacritic's page of premiere dates, research new shows if needed, and calendar which ones I want to check out. (In "turning into my grandmother' news, pretty much like she used to do when circling her shows in the TV Guide!)
  2. Recently: Michael Sheen is a hammy, scenery-chewing, show-ruining actor in both The Good Fight and Prodigal Son. (I did like him in Good Omens.) The cheesy soundtrack in Stumptown spoils an otherwise good show. It's like the music editor found a 99 cent bargain bin "Now That's What I call Music" compilation cassette tape and went with it. Walton Goggins is miscast as a warm-and-fuzzy CBS sitcom dad.
  3. I was curious and counted the positive and negative comments by Paul and Prue during judging during the signature and showstopper rounds in the last episode. Prue: 23 positive | 15 negative Paul: 19 positive | 18 negative For comparison, I looked at a random episode 6 from a season when Mary was there: Mary: 22 positive | 15 negative
  4. I completely forgot about the kids. Missy would probably be obedient, if snarky, and Sheldon loves cleaning.
  5. I'll go further and say that, given the social constructs of the time, I'm also on his side as far as the housework goes. He and Mary made a decision in their marriage that he would work outside the home and she'd care for the kids and manage the house while he was gone. She later opted to work part time against his wishes (as I recall?), and while it would be thoughtful of him to take on more of the chores since Mary started working, I think that's something she should have specifically worked out with him if it bothered her. Typically for the time, he'd also have been responsible for yard maintenance, which is just as valuable as housework imo.
  6. Seems like Luis is going to be featured a bit so viewers can get a bit of an update on where he is in life, but the show already has four realtors. If he's acting mostly as a buyers' agent now, that also isn't as dramatic as sellers and developers being asses. I think Ryan and Emilia bought the townhouse and are renovating it for themselves and purchased an apartment in the new building as an investment rental.
  7. My guess is that the autopsy was started by peeling off the face because the trauma was supposedly to her brain? My real guess is that it was supposed to be creepier that way. There's no excuse for the still-clothed part, or letting the parents into the autopsy room right before they start to cut her open. According to the NIH, cardiac resuscitation time in hospitals for unresponsive patients ranges from 16 to 30 minutes, with an average of 20, so I'm a bit dubious about the "answer" in this episode. (I believe racism can subconsciously play a part in emergency health care decisions but couldn't find any studies. I also wouldn't be surprised if older patients are called after less time than younger ones.)
  8. Kind of let down by this episode. I'm already bored with nightmare George and demon Townsend.
  9. I thought the first episode was fine and I appreciated that the queens were generally kind and non-toxic towards each other. It remains to be seen how high the skill levels will be given the relatively small drag scene in the UK. It was interesting that the majority of UK viewers on Reddit thought it was fantastic, laugh out loud funny, and the best episode in years. I personally didn't get a lot of the references and had to look up some slang. Ru was upbeat and more engaged than I've seen her for a while.
  10. Overhead shot of an empty bed. Next shot is a person landing face up on the bed with a thump. They're just exhausted. Did they drop down from the ceiling? Take a running jump and fling themselves lengthwise into the bed? Climb up onto the edge of the mattress and let themselves fall backwards? It's a cheesy, cliched shot, it doesn't conform to the laws of gravity, and I'm tired of it!
  11. I may be alone in disliking the damned 8 track music and sound track in general. Ugh. Been watching on mute with closed captions.
  12. Oh, balls. Discovered this morning that my refrigerator door had been ajar all night. There goes the fresh chicken, hamburger and Italian sausage I just bought yesterday, plus my leftovers, milk, cheese, eggs, mayo and the creamy salad dressings. Butter was melted. Everything out! Not taking any chances with possible stomach poisoning and a couple of days toilet duty. For some reason the inside of the fridge was a lot warmer than room temperature. Maybe because the condenser was running but no cooling?
  13. That was not a good episode to start with. I was steeled for the grudge/shouty part, but Ash was ridiculous believing Alexis is somehow immoral for choosing a style she enjoys. Then Anthony loses to Josh, ick. I hope at least the judges enjoyed their overacting.
  14. @Suzy Rhapsody, there was a point in my late teens when I despised my (single) mother. No good reason, really, except that she had rules. (Freud would have some suggestions.) I moved out when I graduated from high school and rebuffed my mother at every turn. Never initiated contact and got quite annoyed if she called me or came by my place to visit. The more she tried to force me to talk, the angrier I got and the further away I pulled. I felt like she was trying to run my life, suffocating and manipulating me, and being a bitch. I got pissed if she was fakely upbeat and cheerful, pissed if she cried, pissed if she tried to be reasonable. Just pissed every time. I was close to my grandmother but stopped seeing her as well because I knew she'd tell my mother anything I said. At the time there was nothing my mother could have said or done to make me see her side or draw us closer because I was sick of being nagged and did not give a fuck. Has it ever worked to force someone to feel a way they do not? She and my grandmother finally gave up in the face of my implacable animosity, which was a relief. I was finally able to gain some perspective in my late twenties but still carried resentment for what I saw as her meddling and interference in my adult life.
  15. FYI for others like me who don't have access to Logo. Episodes can also be viewed with a subscription to WOW Presents Plus. It's $3.99 a month or $29.99 for a year. Free 30-day trial. From their website: "RuPaul's Drag Race UK will be available on WOW Presents Plus every Thursday at 12 PM PST / 3 PM EST Starting October 3rd." Drag Race Thailand is also available.
  16. Derek hating NYC is his preference, but I think he's unconsciously (or not) projecting his own dislike for cold weather onto the twins. It's not like taking them outdoors to play in the snow is some insurmountable obstacle. And there's always CT. Luis once again made me sad while I was watching the birth. He and Nikita were so distant, not touching, holding hands, or even much looking at each other. As always, I wish him well and hope co-parenting brings joy to everyone involved. Interesting that he's working primarily with buyers now. The show has always tried to have at least one up and coming broker to contrast against more successful ones, but I'm feeling pressed about Tyler and need him to close some sales soon. It was similarly nerve-wracking to me when Luis was struggling. Did Ryan's attempt to give the neighborhood a name ever seep into New Yorker's consciousness? SyHo, or whatever it was? Although "one block from Hudson Yards" seems like it would still be fairly descriptive, as well as alert buyers that it's a lot cheaper area.
  17. I really liked this but agree with @AnimeMania that the set-up is odd. Why make Kristen married with four kids in the first place? Her husband is out of the country and this isn't a show about parenting. Pretty sure her mother is going to conveniently be available to watch the kids every episode while Kristen toddles off to investigate supernatural goings-on. I haven't seen Katja Herbers in anything before but really enjoyed her understated and naturalistic acting style. I was surprised to learn that she's Dutch because her English sounds completely unaccented to me. This and Emergence are my favorite new series so far; fingers crossed for a bit of longevity.
  18. Forum started for the Grudge Match season. I know I'll be grudgingly watching.
  19. I have a fairly high tolerance for procedurals and this one had some interesting characters and was well acted, so I'm in for the time being. I join others in not fully understanding the plot but still enjoyed the backstories and interplay between the cast. I'd prefer the bartender friend be female to dispense with any future sexual shenanigans and love triangles, but so many writers' rooms love that crap that it's kind of inevitable. I'm always a little saddened whenever a middle-aged male Native American character isn't played by Zahn McClarnon, but I'll have to deal.

    S01.E01: Pilot

I don't necessarily object to the "sexy high heels and heavy makeup" type of female detective, but it is nice to see a variety. Jo is obviously very sharp and clever in her approach to work, but I hope she gets over her slightly hesitant way of speaking and becomes more forceful as chief of police. If it's true that managerial styles trickle down, her sergeant also came off as a bit diffident and insecure. I agree that he's going to turn out to be some kind of rat. It's a show with supernatural elements so I'm prepared to suspend disbelief, but the scenes with the intruder at the beach house were very badly handled from a tactical police standpoint. All in all, this is my favorite pilot of the week so far.
  21. I give every new Fall show a try but probably won't keep this, almost solely because of the dad. He comes off a very inconsequential to me, like a kid playing dress-up in a cotton poncho shirt and messy hair. I don't buy him as a dedicated hippie, communist, environmentalist, or anything else. And why did his vegetables die? Is suburban soil somenow too middlebrow and conformist to grow plants?
  22. I've gotten so spoiled by Amazon one day, early morning deliveries (including Sundays!) that I actually got annoyed when they shipped something via USPS this week. Like, you expect me to drive to my neighborhood postal station and retrieve it from a locker? Like an animal?
  23. Someone on social media said Dani's tattoo was bio-organic instead of mechanical, which I couldn't unsee once it was pointed out. Peck (I think?) said it was the best example of biomech that had ever been on the show, but there were no mechanical components at all. The light source on it was amazing, though, and of the three, I'd choose hers to be on me. Even though I thought Jason's was the most appealing overall back piece, I personally wouldn't want to wear it because I have zero affinity for huge-breasted pirates bursting out of their tops. Jason is so danged cute the way he removes his hat for judging and stands at parade rest. He also has surprisingly luxurious hair, which is usually not the case for inveterate male hat-wearers. This was generally a nice season for me, becoming more so as the numbers, and conflict, dwindled.
