  1. It seems to me that Matt is in love with the way Amber makes him feel about himself more than he with her as a person. And the sex, I assume.

Interesting that couples choosing for themselves don't have any higher success rate then when MAFS experts choose for them.

The participants signed their contracts and viewers were bombarded with the countdown of "weddings in X days" throughout the series, but it was pretty tacky of Kinetic Content to frame it this way.  Obviously there's not much of a show if people leave the "facility" and then either keep dating or gradually lose interest/break up IRL, but forcing decisions at a pretend wedding is cruel. I felt really bad for the parents. Ideally the "no" people clued in their betrothed beforehand but who knows.

The whole series was weirdly off, what with the long wait from filming to release, cutting out some participants entirely, not showing much of the pods, etc.

Gigi's mud stained wedding dress made it pretty clear that events didn't happen in the order they were shown.

  2. Wonderful episode! I was on the edge of my seat a couple of times, which is not typical for this show.

I enjoyed the more serialized nature of the season as a whole, which let the storyline play out at a more impactful pace. My favorite scene may be Dr. DeBryn telling off Morse and Thursday. I love Max. And Jim being the solid, non-dramatic voice of reason that he is.

Morse's letter at the end made me tear up, as did Bright remarking how (unfairly) suspicious and unwelcoming he had originally been towards Morse.

Someone on another site pointed out that the other cities that experienced a series of accidents were Leicester, Uttoxeter, Dover, and Oxford.

  3. I've been known to stop taking a medication against doctor's orders, but the eczema patient even quit using OTC moisturizers! Come on, girl.

It seems we can't escape the food comparisons by folks popping bumps and cysts. The doctor and nurses were also quite verbally effusive: "Whee!"

I thought Damian and Giannina were going to have one of their dumb fights again and was prepared to just wait it out and then they brought up politics.

They both seemed very set in their beliefs (conservative vs liberal is my guess). Damien interrupted her explanation by saying he admired her for sending money home, but that wasn't really the point. He's likely content with the current status quo, but she has a personal frame of reference for income inequalities, government corruption, immigration laws, etc.

Some couples are happy rubbing along with opposite political views, but it seems like just another spike in the road for these two.

  5. Yes, Jessica, we're all very impressed that you can add in increments of ten.

Aside from (again) drinking too much and throwing herself at Barnett, I softened a bit towards Jessica this episode. She does seem to have a fairly adult life aside from romance, and she ditched the baby voice.

I can't believe she and Matt didn't have those sorts of conversations before, though.

  6. I hope Thursday is right about the towpath killer and Molly Andrews. I hate seeing him so dejected and Morse doesn't freaking know everything! Would serve him right to be taken down a peg, the old sex scoundrel.

Does Thursday usually call Strange "Jim?" It sounded off to me.

All the women have bodies that are 10s.

Someone on another discussion board said none of the participants were attractive, which fine. He went on to claim that a couple of the women were "thick" and I wondered if we were watching the same show. We have seen them in their bikinis and there's not one bit of jiggle.

I hope he was just trolling because jeez.

Lauren and Cameron talk to each other like adults and I love it.

She cracked me up reflecting on the possible dangers of kissing thin lips.

I love that neither of them have dated outside their races before and how calmly and intelligently they're exploring what that means. Really pulling for them.

Jessica also seems more excited about ending this phase of the experiment with a partner and being engaged at her age than excited about being with Mark.

She was very excited to marry a different guy two days before! You are second choice, Mark.

The point of marrying blind is slightly undercut when everyone's good looking, but then I wouldn't want to watch anyone's face fall when they finally meet each other, so it's probably kinder this way.

The wiki shows 13 male and 15 female participants, so there were a lot we didn't see. Makes sense if nothing happened for them, but still. It says something about the isolation, reality TV pressure, and intense focus that so many of them did pair up.

Since this is produced by the same company that does Married at First Sight, I'd love to see the MAFS "experts" interview these folks and make their own matches. Would they get any of them right?

I did like it for the real estate porn!  But then the show also seems to focus on the real estate group in typical reality show fashion.

The fake office meetings and pep talks are awful. I've been watching it on mute with CC because I can't stand Aaron's voice* but still like seeing the transformations. I was surprised they managed to shift the house with all the marble statuary, even with the significant price drop and restaging.

I have enjoyed Unsellable Houses with the twin sisters. They do nice work and have an interesting business model of paying for the renovations and then splitting any excess profit with the sellers.

  11. I've been watching Supervet and am so in awe of Dr. Fitzpatrick and the dedication he has for animals. I was looking to see if he'd been awarded an OBE or other honors and ran across some speculation that the Britney Spears song Toxic was written about him (one of the songwriters is a former girlfriend).

On one hand, I admire him so much and don't like to think he's any kind of ass in his personal life, but realistically I also don't see how he could possibly maintain a romantic relationship. He often sleeps at the hospital due to his long hours and also runs businesses that market the products he's patented. He films the show and makes talk show appearances ... it's not surprising that any girlfriends would inevitably be lower on his list of priorities than animals.

As it is, it's the equivalent of an airplane read for me.

Me too, in a casually entertaining way. The end was emotionally satisfying even if it made no sense.

OTOH, the kids were annoying, created even more plot holes, and dragged down the entire show.

I'll also add my meaningless vote for a series featuring Don't-Call-Me-Jo and Wesley. Hopefully he's learned not to be so suggestible.

  13. First and foremost, I just love spending time with these characters.

Nice first episode, with a continuing storyline again. I don't enjoy seeing Thursday weary and drained, but this isn't a show that intends to make all its characters happy. To that end, another doomed romance for Morse.

  14. Wasn't it Taylor who told Brandon quite emphatically on their wedding day that the one thing she would not tolerate is being disrespected? She sure folded like origami on that one.

If I'm misremembering and it was Meka who said it, the same thing applies.

The experts can match objectively "good looking" people all day long, but nobody can predict chemistry. Every season, attractive people of both sexes have been left by the wayside.

As far as genuine matchmaking goes, the show's biggest flaw is aggressively recruiting and then selecting men who aren't really interested in being married. Or if they are, it's only on their own terms.
