  1. Sort of like a local Bill O'Reilly, from the looks of what you're saying.
  2. You're not alone! I couldn't stand that 1996-2005 CBS comedy called Everybody Loves Raymond; despite the title, like you, I never either loved Raymond, and that is another show that has been and remains permanently ineligible for my DVD collection.
  3. I had a long time back gotten the first two seasons' worth (1951-53) of her classic CBS comedy I Love Lucy from the Best Buy in Greenville, just to see what it was like and why it has been acclaimed as much as it has and why it has the classic status it has. I dislike admitting it, but while I did find funny parts here and there (Vitameatavegamin being one of them; another one being the candy wrapping scene in the second season), I Love Lucy was really quite dull and unfunny to me. On that score, I'll say also that I could not stand Jackie Gleason. As I said before, I knew that his Honeymooners show was a classic of the 50s, and so I purchased the "Classic 39" to see if I would enjoy it. Unfortunately, through the 8 episodes (one disc) I saw, I found it, like Lucy, quite dull, and quite the waste of the sawbuck ($10) I paid for it. Fortunately, both of them have found homes with my nephew Eli in Alabama, and he loves them more than I do (in fact, he has all of I Love Lucy now, both the first two that I gave him, and the remaining ones that I purchased for him from Amazon [third and fourth for Christmas one year, fifth for a visit the next, and sixth one and Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour for his birthday]).
  4. Here's a game that I'd like to have back, in whatever form: High Rollers. To that end, here's a rare episode from Independence Day 1975 (Fri. July 4) on NBC with original host Alex Trebek; this was from the first go-round from 1974-76, something that it was thought was completely extinct and kaput.
  5. Tenth-season opening (1986-87): Bobby is in these credits
  6. To expand upon my previous post: here's the second version of the opening from original-recipe Dallas, this one from the ninth season (1985-86): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3U4BALs5P8
  7. Oh, yes, that with me too, in spades! I especially have enjoyed the opening of original-recipe Dallas, in both of its major versions (the one where the skyline went right-to-left [seasons 1-7] and then the one where the skyline zoomed in [seasons 8-14 and the 1996 and 1998 movies]). To start with, here's the first version, from the third season (1979-80):
  8. Here's a 1986 ad for NewsCenter 5 from WCVB Channel 5 (ABC in Boston, MA). Apparently, they took their NewsCenter 5 newscasts very seriously at that Boston ABC station then, and the ad and jingle seem to bear that out very well.
  9. I'd say that "Dr." Oz seems to be cut from that very same cloth, and so is "Dr." Phil.
  10. Useless trivia: Jim Nantz of CBS Sports (who has been there 30 years going on 31) is really Jim Nantz III (his late father was named Jim Nantz, Jr., BTW). Just wondered if you knew that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Nantz
  11. And IIRC, he was on sports on WMAR Channel 2 in Baltimore when that was the NBC station of that area (WMAR is now ABC), and was even on college football in the studio for ABC.
  12. I didn't like DiCaprio to begin with-- in fact, it was Titanic (1997 3-hour dramatization of that 1912 incident) that put me on the road to strongly disliking him. I don't know about you, but while I acknowledge that the event happened and is part of American history, the dramatization in 1997 left a lot to be desired.
  13. Ditto on that one for me, even when he was on The Apprentice!
  14. That's just what I was wondering! I thought he did it after cautions.
  15. Are you referring to when he yells, "Boogety, boogety, boogety-- let's go racin', boys!"? He not only does it at the top of the race, but IIRC, every time the race restarts after a caution flag.
  16. And worse yet (and this is one for the "shows you wanted to like but don't" thread as well), I tried to see his classic 1982-89 NBC comedy called Family Ties (I had the first season's worth before), and for reasons unknown, it didn't click for me.
  17. Today on NBC has really become quite the miss for me, and became so ever since he joined in 1997.
  18. Did they really expect you to mail all that stuff to them?!
  19. How about Joe Buck of FOX Sports? I think personally that Pat Summerall ran rings around him hands-down on CBS when I was a boy.
  20. To start with, I thought I might say, anybody from FOX "News"!
  21. What would really be upsetting to me is the ride not only stopping, but stopping while it's in a loop!
  22. And it would be even worse if you had just eaten a big meal prior to going on either a roller coaster or a spinning ride. To that end, a word of advice-- if you have just eaten and want to go on a roller coaster or spinning ride, take a good walk around the park first and take in some of the other attractions and games and all that lot, such that what you ate and drank has time to go through you; that way, when you do get on the roller coaster/spinning ride, there is much less risk of throwing up or having something worse happen to you.
  23. Per Barney Miller, the only thing I've left untouched in my copy of Shout!'s full-series release is the first season's worth of Fish. I don't think it'll hold up as well as Barney did. And per Card Sharks, I agree, and I believe personally that the card playing (higher-lower) is more exciting than the survey questions.
  24. I think the writer meant "bail" on that one. "Bale" is what you do with hay.
