Daisy is not the Bachelorette. She turned it down. Somehow they skipped over Daisy, Rachel, Maria, and Lexi and went with…Jen. Who’s Jen you might ask? I only recall one scene of her this entire season in which she was completely disinterested in a synchronized drone show created just for her.

Yeah, I hadn’t watched the episode at that point and my source lied to my face :) just call me Reality Phleb!

    I don't know the rules.

(NOTE: I posted this before actually watching and had been told by a friend who is STILL LAUGHING AT ME that Daisy won. I am surprised about Jenn, and I’m happy to see some Asian representation. Unfortunately all I remember about Jenn is that she doesn’t care about drones.)

    "Rules"?

I think it was always going to be Daisy from the moment they knew Joey wasn't going to pick her.

I'm not happy about it either. She's got a pretty smile, but isn't otherwise all that dynamic on TV.

I don't want to sound overly cynical or push conspiracy theories, but they got a chance to get a woman with a disability, and one that's not all that challenging for the audience. I doubt ABC was interested in going deep into Lexi's endometriosis because that about girl parts.

Maria may have been #2 on the list and may have beaten Kelsey for it if Daisy had gotten the final rose. I think Lexi falls to at least #4, maybe drops below Rachel.

Or maybe I really am overly cynical and people like Maria and Lexi turned it down.  Maybe Daisy wasn't their first choice.   We'll probably never know.

I'm going to miss having Kelsey on my TV.

If Maria's not the Bachelorette, the producers seriously misjudged the situation. The applause she got at WTA was pretty insane.

They will ALWAYS pass on making someone interesting the Bachelorette. That's as true of Maria as it was with Ariel.  At least they get partial credit with Gabby.

I think our next Bachelorette is still in the show at this point.

  4. Busy week, but finally got caught up with Fantasy Suites.

Rachel seems great, but Joey talks to her with the same passion you would have while going over references with a potential new dog walker.

Also, do not let her enter water from more than about 5 feet away. On that jump where she messed up her jaw, she went in feet first but head down -- she basically belly-flopped with her face. I trust her nurse friends have been giving her endless grief about that all week.

In contrast to the Domestic Help Interview energy Joey brought with Rachel, getting within five feet of Kelsey forcibly time-jumps him back to puberty. (Same here, TBH, though her consistently incorrect use of "Joey and I" has a "sliding naked down an ice chute" effect on me. But that is my problem, and one Joey doesn't share.)

ABC got their money's worth from Leslie (?) when she was trying to break Kelsey's mind. Well done. I don't think that note will amount to anything, but you can tell they were eager to have a cliffhanger. (That will get resolved before the WTA next week, right? Then quickly move to the rose ceremony and WTA can also include the new dog wal--... um... the third place finisher.)

Anyway, I'm fully on the Kelsey Train. Her ears stick straight out from the side of her head and she DGAF and I love it.

I don't know what to say about Daisy. They seem to have the same date every time. She has a very pretty smile, which is good because smiling is her go-to move. Daisy seemed to be talking herself into falling in love with Joey, which is exactly how love works, as we all know.

I do wonder if somewhere during their marathon smile sessions she's clued into a potential roadblock between them. Religion or politics or a tall girl from New Orleans with excellent handwriting. At least two of those, ABC wouldn't air at gunpoint. The third they would resolve in a thunderdome.

Anyway. WTA is likely to be annoying to watch but I'm curious to see all the BiP auditions.

  5. I respect Taylor Swift a lot, even if her music doesn't always speak to me. She has a couple of decent tunes but I'm not going to be taking out a second mortgage to buy a concert ticket.  But she annoys some of our dumber talking heads on the news shows, so more power to her.

That said, being able to name all her songs is not quite the flex Charlie seems to think it is. If Taylor had been watching that, she would have gone from flattered to touched to uncomfortable to creeped out.

  6. If I had to haul probably 100 gallons of water up a beach with a holey bucket, I'd take my trunks off and use them as a bucket liner.  I wonder if they were prevented from doing that.

Jelinsky isn't even a legend among first boots.  Franchesqua wouldn't give him the time of day.

ETA: What's Franchesqua doing now?  Apart from shooting Phillip's porch light out every year on her birthday?

  7. As usual, I'm a day behind on the episode.

When Daisy said she wasn't in love yet, did she mean she was really about 20 minutes away? By the time they strapped on those skates, seemed like she was ringing the bell.

Did Jenn get a one-on-one?  You'd think she would have mentioned it 38 times if she hadn't.

I tend to think Lexi realizes she can do better than a younger, unemployed tennis instructor.

Yeah, you're obviously right.  If they had really been feeling it, then maybe they could have had the more serious talk.  Stuck it out to fantasy suites and she could have laid it all on the table.  But ultimately, they weren't each other's "person."

In the moment watching it, though -- my first surprise exit on this show since Elyse noped out on Colton.

  9. Finally caught up.  Surprised about Lexi -- I think there was a timeline where they both could get what they want. As others have said, things like surrogacy and adoption can take a long time, so they can start the process and still have a long time to themselves.  But that's not a TV conversation.

Wasn't expecting to see Kelsey A all wrapped up in doubt. I might be confusing my own personal list with Joey's but she's been in the top tier the whole time.  I don't know much about her past and things have to look differently from inside.

Why did Maria and Lea hug at the end of that rose ceremony?  Was the whole thing fake, or did no one tell Maria that she was in a bitter war with Lea? I read that Maria came after Lea on the socials last week, so maybe she was just cluing in when we did?  Very weird.

It all makes me excited to have Survivor back next week.

Maria was always going to win that one.

I would have liked to see Sydney's face when she discovered there was an opera singer on tap waiting to sing Ave Maria, and it occurred (or was explained) to her that they must have set that up days in advance.

That 2-on-1 was predetermined before the card showed up.

Um- I guess that might be true, but they would be seeing things waaaaaay differently than in my home. Maria is gorgeous, and since night one we were surprised that Joey kissed 'the homely one' (Jess).

I think Maria is gorgeous too. And maybe I'm wrong or overly simplistic about how these other women see her, but it does seem like they look at her as "other." "Why is she still here?" etc.

I may have been allowing my lack of regard for Sydney/Jess/Lea to make me assume they don't look beyond the surface.

I don't think Lea or Maria are going to make it their hometowns.

    Definitely not Lea.

I can see it with Maria, simply because I don't know who would keep her from it. I'm assuming Daisy and Kelsey A are both locks, but there is maybe a four-way race for the other two spots:  Maria, Lexi, Rachel, and Jenn?

I don't see him losing Maria and keeping Lea, Jess, Katelyn, or Kelsey T.

ETA: I don't see Maria in the final two.  Joey seems to like her well enough, but he is in awe of Daisy and Kelsey. (I'm kind of in awe of Kelsey myself.)

  13. Okay I'm finally caught up with this week's offering.
I don't mind multiple villains, but it's a tough ask off your audience when all the villains are all "Maria is disrespecting meeeeeee!" I assumed at first they were cutting out the truly egregious behavior from Maria which inspired all this, but that thought ended when she asked Sydney if she knew they were on camera all the time.
My best guess, and it's not a charitable one, is Lea and Jess (and maybe Sydney but she might just be a sociopath) feel Maria is not attractive, so they're threatened that Joey likes her anyway. If they can't compete on their looks, what else is there?

They understand Joeys connection with Kelsey A and Daisy, because they're both gorgeous. But they don't see it with Maria and their tiny little perspectives are all broken.

    Just a guess.

  14. I'm all in on Team Maria, but I totally get how she's not for everyone. When she's in conflict with a sociopath like Sydney, Maria's not capable of diffusing the situation.  I get wanting to defend yourself on camera, but her argument style is a little like an internet forum made flesh.

And of course that's being highlighted on the show.

She's not going to end up with Joey at the end -- I think Joey likes her, but he's not going to give up time with Kelsey or hip-check Daisy out of the way for her. But I'm glad she's sticking around.

They don’t have access to smartphones to google the Maltese Falcon but a producer favorite may be surreptitiously informed and bogarted for the narrative and we’d never know if she actually got the reference.

That's certainly true. We don't even know if Joey would get it.

But if I were Bachelor, I would have some sort of surreptitious filter like that to keep me from getting distracted by whomever is the best kisser.

Maybe one of the dates will have all the women searching for a falcon.

Any of them who get the reference gets fast-tracked to hometowns

  17. You know Malta rolled out the red carpets for ABC, so they probably all had the best possible Malta experience, even if everyone else who goes there wishes they'd stopped in Sicily.
