I remember there was an early episode where a woman gave birth at home and all the commotion from her husband and children ended up waking the family tortoise who was hibernating in a box under the table.

I liked the reference to Biafra.  I still remember the children with their huge distended bellies and stick arms and legs.  I went to Catholic school, and Biafra was one of the missions we donated to.

It is a real painting, and there is plenty of speculation on the internet that it shows people with Downs Syndrome. But who knows,  that time period wasn't known for great face depictions (so many old man faced baby Jesuses) and Down Syndrome wasn't medically categorized until the mid 1800s.

The other thing is that the theory that the angel was meant to have Down syndrome happened in late 2002.

  3. I found a site that has the UK version of the show.  Unfortunately, it isn't a "legal" streaming site so I don't know if I can link to it here.

Anyway, I watched the episode that this one was based on.  Here's a synopsis of the episode from Wikipedia.  I'll put it in a spoiler:

    Spoiler

Kenny Armstrong (Marc Warren) is a loving family man, who works in a crematorium. When his young daughter Chloe is attacked in a local park, Kenny and his two friends, brothers Gordon (Joe Duttine) and Neil (Jack Deam), go out looking for the assailant. They apprehend a man who matches Chloe's vague description and Kenny punches him, breaking his own wrist in the process. The other two, primarily Gordon, continue beating the man. After the trio flee the man is found and taken to hospital, where he dies of his injuries. Kenny learns of the man's death, alerts Neil and Gordon and the three agree to stay quiet. The murder gradually begins to weigh on Kenny's conscience and he contemplates confessing, believing the court may sympathise with the fact he was seeking retribution for his daughter's assault, an idea which Neil and Gordon strongly refute due to their involvement. Kenny's guilt further intensifies when he has to cremate the dead man's body at work. When another young girl is attacked in very similar circumstances, the trio realise they killed an innocent man. Kenny's conscience finally breaks and he confesses everything to the local police, including Gordon and Neil's involvement. In court the jury finds Gordon and Neil not guilty, despite their greater culpability because the only evidence against them is Kenny's confession. The jury finds Kenny guilty of murder and he is sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 15 years.

  4. Dodi Fayed speaking

I listened to an interview with Khalid Abdalla who played Dodi.  He said he based his speech on a clip of Dodi calling into THE LARRY KING SHOW and asking Burt Reynolds to do his impression of Tony Curtis doing an impression of Cary Grant.

Anyway, he said that Dodi had an American accent but with Egyptian vowel inflections.

Well, irl Charles would have known the Queen's schedule that was planned months and years ahead, so there was no need for the discussion. And of course there was no chance about her attending at the party and thus publicly accepting Camilla.

FWIW, a five-part miniseries called "The Queen" featured five different vignettes of her life, the last being when she finally met Camilla.  They also had Charles asking the Queen to attend the party and her claiming it interfered with an already scheduled appointment.

I'm guessing they'll say that the baby was accidentally incinerated as medical waste because it was so small.  Or they'll try to pass off a stillborn baby as hers.

  7. CTM Gossip about Helen and Olly

    Spoiler
    Quote

Now the Sun and Sunday can reveal the upcoming series will end on a cliffhanger, with Helen’s character Trixie deciding to leave.

It comes after we previously revealed Olly was to be written out of the show. His sudden departure is said to have shocked cast mates.

Our insider said: “Scriptwriters will send shock waves through the fanbase in the new series as Helen and Olly’s future on the show looks shaky. Olly’s departure has left the cast and crew stunned and upset.

“They all thought he was a series mainstay after his prominent wedding scenes to Helen last season.

“Now Helen’s character commits to leaving the East London setting in the final episode, following her on-screen husband.”

I think they meant she's been assaulted in the past. Did a Google search and couldn't find anything about her absence. Weird. I'm in U.S., but the schedule is up to date here.

I feel sorry for Paul but Ryan is just awful. He's always been a bit of a loser, doing stupid AF things.

Ryan reminds me of Doris Powell in "The Brain That Wouldn't Die" which was about a doctor whose fiance is killed in a car crash. He takes her head and keeps it alive until he can find a suitable body to transfer the head onto.  Doris is a beautiful woman who was scarred on the side of her face by a jealous lover who threw acid at her.   She makes money posing "bare for a bunch of perverts."

Ryan, if a shady doctor tells you he can make you just as handsome as you were before, RUN!

I know, but my point (and I see yours too) is that the all the hullabaloo over the wedding and his character being like a "savior" which was a bit convenient, was talked about promoted a lot. Helen said "you never know" back in 2012, she didn't know if she'd stay or they'd want her, but lately her role has been very positive and obviously Trixie was beloved by most.

It's pretty drastic to me to just cut someone after a big wedding but we aren't privy to real meetings. Whether contract/money issues, or something behind the scenes, not having time for him with 2 new characters, I don't think he'll be as missed as others who left, but I wish they didn't have him get married if he wasn't as least going to make guest appearances. (those they don't seem to like)

I'm not sure the two new characters thing is all that relevant since it would mean there would be the same amount of characters there were when he came on the show.

  10. I see absolutely nothing to indicate that Olly Rix is leaving the show voluntarily. Or that it has anything to do with money or contract issues.

Helen has said she always fears being written out of a show because you have no power over what writers want to do.  I think Olly was making the same point:  It doesn't matter how much you want to stay on, if TPTB decide your time is up, there's really nothing you can do.

My guess is that they'll either make him a villain of some kind or they'll kill him off.

Here's the entire Digital Spy interview that those quotes come from:

I never liked Matthews character but why marry and have him be savior to then write him out? Contract/pay issues?

Both Olly and Helen did a lot of media surrounding the wedding.  They said they wanted to stay with the show but didn't assume that the show felt the same way.

    So, some questions....

Marlena had therapy sessions with various hospital patients while possessed? And they didn't show us that? Seems like that would suit Ron's sense of humor perfectly...

...I get the sense Ron is actually proud of his posession storyline. Baffling.🤦🏻‍♂️

Seeing Abe/Doug/any of the older veterans playing drugged up/incapacitated, etc, is very upsetting. Show: Stop?

The trained law enforcement professionals don't know how to locate her ankle bracelet the minute she goes AWOL? Interesting. Seems like they'd be tracking Lani the whole time if she was granted leave for only a few hours...right?

Why is Kate spiiling any of this Philip stuff to Paulina? Why is it important for her to know that Kate gets what she's going through...by revealing deeply private and totally unrelated information to someone she barely knows?

I know this is all a cover for the behind-the-scenes stuff, but wouldn't Kate try to protect Lucas from prison better than Philip? She's closer to him and knows Sami has messed with his heart (so to speak) so wouldn't she push for him to get committed?

Great motivation for Whitley. Super simple and sad. Glad they had a good explanation. Took long enough to get there. Wish we'd gotten some breadcrumbs along the way.

Whitley mentioned in passing that her husband had died recently so I figured that would be the catalyst for what she did.  Obviously, the situation was much more serious and tragic than we knew.
