  1. I disagree. I thought the first couple episodes were kind of blah, but the last three have been very good. I'm curious as to how they get James and Olivia and Baby George back.
  2. It was nice to see Eileen Atkins reunited with Art Malik He played her secretary in the "Upstairs Downstairs" reboot a few years ago.
  3. I always wonder what scenes were just not done at all and which ones were filmed but not used. I would love to see "Call the Midwife" scriptbooks.
  4. According to Laura Main, the new baby is named Edward Patrick Turner and will be called Teddy.
  5. I'm not sure about Philip, but all the other kids they used in this episode are actual amputees with the exception of Susan, of course.
  6. No. Basically, as time went on, there was less and less need for their services, so the nuns of Nonnatus House stopped doing midwifery and mother and baby care, and started concentrating on things like drug abuse, the homeless, etc.
  7. I'm wondering if her storyline was written in after Miranda Hart was unable to rejoin the show. There was a cut scene early on where the Jamaican nurse shooed the visitors out of the room so she could bring in the woman who eventually ended up miscarrying.
  8. I remember in the Christmas episode where Chummy worked at the Mother and Baby Home (not sure what it was actually called, but it was for "unwed mothers") there was a girl who said something catty about Shelagh marrying a man who was 8 years older than her as though Dr. Turner was old and decrepit .
  9. I don't know if any of you remember a show called "The CBS Children's Film Festival" which ran in the late 1960's to the mid 1970's. It was hosted by Kukla, Fran and Ollie and featured films from around the world that centered on children. The first film they showed was a British film called "Hand in Hand" which was about the friendship between 2 children, a Catholic boy and a Jewish girl. Many of us who saw it remember it fondly. Anyway, TCM will be showing it tomorrow night at 10:00 EST so you may want to set your DVRs.
  10. The law affects anyone in the line of succession who was born after 2011. Both the daughters of HRH The Duke of Gloucester had a daughter and then a son. Under the old rules, those sons would have gone ahead of their sisters in the line of succession. But since the boys were both born in 2012, their sisters are still ahead of them. Of course, they're far enough back so there's very little chance of them ever becoming Monarch.
  11. The situation with Edward is a little more complicated than that. First of all, both the Queen and Philip must be deceased for anything to happen. Secondly, it's really all up to Charles. I'm sure he was consulted when the original plan was made, but he's under no legal obligation to follow through.
  12. I love my KINDLE for just that reason. I also read "Nicholas and Alexandra" many years ago. One impression I got was that both Alexander III and Empress Marie Feodorovna were larger than life characters who fully embodied their roles as emperor and empress. Nicholas and Alexandra could never have lived up to that.
  13. Oh, that makes me so sad. He will be sorely missed by anyone who loved classic movies.
  14. You're welcome. I also remember being very affected by it when I saw it. You can find bits and pieces on YouTube, but not the whole movie.
  15. I know quite a few people who never forgave Steve Allen for that hound dog stunt. Funnily enough, not all of them were even Elvis fans. They just found it disrespectful. Changing topics, this will mean absolutely nothing to anyone under 50, but I was checking the TCM schedule and next Monday night, they're going to be showing "Hand in Hand" which is a British film about the friendship between two children, a Jewish girl and a Christian boy. Back when I was a kid, there was a show where they had different child-themed films from different countries and that was one of them. Anyway, if you remember that film, you might to check it out again.
  16. Until very recently, neither William or Kate were full time working royals. William was working as a rescue helicopter pilot, but that's really not the same thing. However, he resigned from that job not too long ago so he and Kate are now full time working royals.
  17. John Belushi was fat Elvis, or as he put it "I'm The King after he discovered carbohydrates."
  18. Victoria's half-sister was named Feodora.
  19. I DVR'ed and added a half hour which obviously wasn't enough time. I had to check online to see who won. BOO!!
  20. BTW, that's Daisy Goodwin playing the Duchess of Inverness. I was listening to a Masterpiece podcast interview of her and she mentioned playing that part.
  21. I think the WOW was meant to be a 7 year locust. When I was in about 4th or 5rh grade, we were supposed to have an infestation of them and for whatever reason, we all got the idea that they ate people. We were a little nonplussed when they turned out to be basically grasshoppers.
  22. Also, in real life, Debbie would have been doing all the housework too, not just cooking. How about brandy and champagne as "energy drinks?"
  23. I think someone may have already linked to this, but just in case: The Other Prince William This is a documentary that was done on Channel 4 in the UK. It's a biography of Prince William of Gloucester. Don't forget Edward VII was only King for 9 years, but they still call it "The Edwardian Age."
