  1. Ohhh! Damn Madding crowd... I think you are onto something!
  2. So many!! One that sticks with me that no one gets: "Somebody's gotta fight the injured. That's my niche" (Hardison from the Miracle Job)
  3. Anyone else wish we got a little bit of that car ride with Gloria and Twisty? Her insipid yammering about the "private party" for her son and his crazy eyes in the backseat would have been excellent.
  4. Random thoughts in no particular order: I felt for how Meep died. I didn't like his character and didn't feel much sympathy until he was being arrested. It was pretty clear from that moment on that he was akin to a child - so his last terrified screams were chilling. Very reminiscent of The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover where Albert tortured the young soprano. Ahhh. Twisty and Dandy. I think we're looking at two halves of the same dark coin. I almost feel like they could be the same person... but that would be the cheap way out of this. I'm looking forward to seeing these two play off each other. I am worried though that these two teaming up could mean the end of Gloria (Dandy's mother). He could discard her easily and if he bonds with Twisty I see him having a weapon to point at folks. The pre-dinner scene went on just a tad longer than I'd like - Dandy was annoying (as intended) but it made me wonder: what the hell is going on inside his mother's head that she didn't throw that water glass at his head? I get the damage... but where the hell is her threshold?? I'm actually a little impressed... Dug the song Criminal and was pleased with Bette/Dot's version of it. The harmony was rather nice... though I wish Bette (Dot?) was more confident of her playing second to her sister. I thought the harmony was nice and was surprised it didn't seem so to her ear. I suppose that wouldn't create that tension between the two sisters... which I wish they wouldn't try to create. It just seems very odd for them to be so adversarial towards each other. At the moment I'm not digging the Dell character. Can we have a glimmer of depth or is he just a violent, ugly, one dimensional guy? His wife is slightly more appealing, if only for the sauciness of the character. I'm hoping next episode comes out with a little more fleshing out of each character. At the moment I don't find either too interesting. I'm pretty sure we saw Penny the candy-striper walking around wearing the same thing we last saw her in. It's driving me nuts because I know I saw her after the second half wandering around the carnival in the daylight and thought it odd that she was still in her bra and robe. JL, as always, brings it.
  5. Um... This is getting personal. Maybe the topic should refocus on the episode?
  6. Eh, I'm underwhelmed with the "is it rape?" situation. I'm not convinced the show gave us enough to say with any certainty.. in fact, I'm more convinced they made it ambiguous on purpose. If it wasn't intended to be ambiguous then it was filmed very poorly. Personally if someone takes a drug, kills someone and can't remember - there isn't much there to protect them from the consequences of their actions. If they are on film smiling during it it tends to increase culpability, not remove it. If someone takes a drug has sex with multiple partners on film while smiling and comes back the next day upset over the events - I simply can't bring myself to feel too sympathetic.
  7. As to the hand sex thing... I'm gonna get super graphic and just assume we're all adults here. I got the impression he was penetrating the vagina and rectum while stimulating the clitoris with his thumb. His digits are approximately twice the size in both length and girth AND knuckled. Which no only means "ribbed for her pleasure" but would be able to crook his digit to hit the g-spot. Excluding male boasting, I frankly don't think most men would be able to accomplish all of this with all ten digits. The coordination would have to be superior. Who thinks this will come out as a possible sex toy in the near future?
  8. I seem to always come late to these things, but here's my unsolicited $0.02 1) Twisty the Clown - when Husband and I were watching this and Twisty came out of the forest on the two lovers on a picnic I looked at Husband and said "This never ends well." And for some depraved, hard to identify reason I LOVE this clown. He is so over the top that he went from terrifying to hilarious. Maybe it's because the quite, unassuming human monsters that look normal are far more scary to me than a scalp-wearing murderous clown. Go figure. Still, I want a doll of this fucker for my dashboard. Maybe a bobble-head! 2) To me, definitely an over done Baltimore accent. I grew up in the DC area and it's the kind of accent one does to make fun of Baltimore. I wish she'd pull back just a bit on it. 3) FWIW, I LOVE the constant of the "peepers" - what my family calls the sounds of the summer bugs and frogs on the East Coast. For me it's the sound of home so anytime I hear it I am charmed a bit. It was loud, but then they are loud down here... the sound mixing could have been better - there was one scene where Lange and Bates are talking in hushed tones and we had to turn up the sound... only to get blasted by the opening of the next scene. 4) Back to Twisty - I think JayKay has it right: I picked up on this too and got the feeling that anyone who shows him a modicum of courtesy will get "entertained" whether they like it or not and the rest will be stabbed repeatedly. I'm curious where things will go with his two captives as of the whole cast they seem innocent (although the blonde was pretty stupid for not running full out when she first saw him). 5) the Candy-striper... I don't think she was given a drugged cigarette only because JL lit it and sucked a few puffs down first. Granted she probably has an immunity of sorts if it were drugged, but she strikes me as the kind of person who would rather get things done through salesmanship. The woman is a carnival barker almost literally.. I think she'd feel she failed if she had to resort to something like drugging someone - not that she wouldn't hesitate to drug someone, only that she'd rather just manipulate them. I hate, hate HATE going into this ugly territory, but there is this nasty place where a woman regrets her decisions and it looks a lot like rape to the rest of us. I'm not saying she wasn't raped and if she was then I'm all for the outrage and disgust. BUT (!) given the history of this show and how they love to flirt with this ugly line I'm not 100% comfortable going "OMG - rape!" When it comes down to it, my gut is saying "she went to the carnival, she went way past her envelop, shocked herself with her own abandon and when she sobered up she was disgusted with herself." I may have folks vehemently disagree with me, but I'm just calling it like I see it. I do wish they weren't so ambiguous about it though. (Dandesun put it better than I did!) 5b) As a side note - anyone think it odd that the projector just happened to have the reel of the festivities of an opium fueled orgy featuring the very person who is up in arms about where she has found herself? I doubt it will ever be addressed and will just be one of those weird details, but it seemed very odd that JL is sitting quietly reflecting on the images, shuts it off, is immediately confronted by the candy-striper, turns it back on cued up to the orgy itself. I just think it's weird. 6) the sex! I honestly never saw the side business of Jimmy and his ectrodactyly hands. Interesting twist... and an interesting way to make some side cash. I kind of hope that he and the twins get caught up in something sordid. But his hair?? ugh. I guess I should be grateful that it's not the 70's and he isn't sporting massive sideburns and a puffy coif. Still. 7) The twins - I like 'em as a concept, but what little I do know of conjoined twins, their relationship isn't quite so adversarial. I like that they can "hear" each others thoughts, but it's a little too fantastic for me and kind of pulled me out of the story - even though it helped provide a perspective otherwise not available to the audience. Next week looks like fun and I don't care that the music is out of sync with the time. I actually like it (though Husband had to point out that it was a Bowie song). 8) I missed the "next time" and am not happy to read that Ma Petit maybe in trouble. I really liked her and want to see more of her on screen. She might be the one character that makes me feel bad because she is a grown adult woman and should be afforded every dignity and respect given to any adult woman. But dammit she is cute and makes me want to think of her in terms of a doll. 9) Cop dismemberment! Is it awful that I was unmoved by the fact that a cop was killed, but rather delighted that the group - including the twins - were unified? I just have a hard time with the trope of the lazy, bigoted cop getting served and feeling like I should be sad for him. Hell, I pulled for Dexter and didn't feel conflicted so maybe it's just me. 10) Elsa is a double amputee? Of everything in this episode - and there was a lot - this was one great big yawn from me. I hope there is some payout and back story to this. On the whole? Yay!! AHS is back and starting out with one hell of a bang. Here's hoping they can keep the momentum going.
  9. Maybe I'm cynical, but I tend to think that for whatever degree you think the editors have manipulated what we see - it's still a fraction of what they really are doing. That being said, I agree that there was more to the trash talking than what we saw. Squeakiest wheel and her target got the camera time, but it seemed like the body language from most of the blue team were taking issue with Rocker. That being said, i don't think any of that had anything to do with Rocker's blindside. Until Josh caught wind of Rocker having the HII and his ease with side alliances, his position wasn't in jeopardy. No amount of screaming from Twinie #2 and no amount of cajoling from Baylor and Sidekick was changing that. As to the whole scandal - it seems like this is really a matter of "any publicity is good publicity" as far as the producers are concerned. The energy/uproar his presence has caused is really superficial and not game-driven. That disappoints me because I want to invest in the game... if I wanted exposure to bigotry I would attend TeaParty conventions. But what I want is to be entertained, rather mindlessly, for an hour. Rocker's presence simply didn't add to any entertainment value. Here's the twist - not because he's a bigot, but because his bigotry is famous. At the end of the day though, if he was one of the millions of anonymous bigots - I think he still would have been voted out. His game play lacked self-awareness. He simply didn't realize that maybe alliances should be reserved for, you know, actual people in your alliance. He was a dim bulb and it bit him on the ass. Now that he's gone (and let's hope his shade moves on with him)... I'm really hoping to see some crafty game play start up. Apologies, but someone above mentioned Wes is a little more savvy than first impressions would lead one to believe. I think they are onto something there. Right now he's a tentative black horse. After looking over the cast... bland, bleh, yuck. I like Wes, but that's mostly gut on brief appearances. Not a huge fan of Keith or Dan. Both of the dads who are here with their kids strike me as being damaged, or at least their relationship with their kid is a little damaged. None of the female seems particularly unique. I'm looking forward to the merge - that's when things can get very interesting.
  10. Reminds me of the first season where she was really cursory to the rest of the cast and when she did have screen time it was pretty subdued. I liked that Garcia. Hell, there was one episode where Reid was running the computers from onsite (Broken Mirror). Edited to add GTMA backgroundnoise. Also - EC = East Coast ;-)
  11. I'm curious - what would be the best way to kill off this character? I'm thinking there would be a kind of poetry if she were killed by a drunk driver hit and run. They could try to work it up like one of their high profile cases only to find it was just some irresponsible jerk. It would provide an interesting episode where they have to come to terms that not everything is pure evil dripping in depravity. After that we could see Kevin trying to fit into the role all awkwardly, trying to figure out how he can bond with the team and resolving that he is replacing his love. I swear, I think Garcia's death would provide a whole slew of interesting things that could be excellent to explore.
  12. I would love it if they brought him in to replace her. There could be all kinds of interesting angsty goodness to come from that!
  13. I think it'd be far more interesting if she died by accident. Sometimes it is good to remember that bad things happen and doesn't always have some evil cause behind it. The team could really struggle with reconciling that. Besides, she was already a CM victim. She doesn't need to be Deb a la Dexter where she just keeps attracting the dysfunctional into her life.
  14. Sorry, I certainly didn't intend to come off telling you what you *meant* to say. Only that I disagree with what you did say and why. Ok, she's a woman. I just don't see how that is any more relevant to her job as a technical analyst or how poorly she responded to the situation. Her gender, to me, simply isn't important. At least no more important than the gender of anyone else on the show. I guess I just don't understand what is relevant about her gender that it merits being brought up. Which is fine - I don't need to understand it... At the end of the day, my assessment was how she behaved that was a horrible characterization of a professional with her job position and responsibilities. :-) Glad some like her.
  15. At the time it was Strauss.... though Garcia didn't know *who* was in danger, the unsub only contacted them with the "zugzwang" message when someone was being targeted. As to the whole woman thing - no. I have to call you on this. No one but you brought that up. No one was discounting Garcia for any reason but her behavior, certainly not because she is a woman. This show is ripe with strong, capable women so your point doesn't really make sense. I get that you really like this character to the point of defending her - but I don't see any criticisms that aren't valid. Harsh - yes, but valid nonetheless. If anyone is really to blame it's the writers and show runner and not a fictional character or the actress who really had no options on this. They wrote her to be a fumbling, mewling mess of a tech analyst. There was a time when this would have pissed her off to the point of taking her room apart to see how this happened. She would have been reverse engineering her way into his computer like the chick from The Ring to crawl out the other side. Her character in the past would have rolled up her sleeves, not tripped over the carpet trying to get out of the room. She may have a lot of superficial annoying traits (which are merely preferential and not substantive)... but those computers and her domain was HERS. And the writers had to take that from her which is a damn shame because they are stripping what used to be a character that had quirky charm into a cartoon that anime would struggle to keep up with.
  16. Whoa - wait. This isn't about "women have a different way of doing things." I have to admit that I resent using the "women are allowed to have emotions, feel weird, act weird, attach importance to things others may find odd, and see things differently than others" card. It's inferring that this is about gender and about controlling women (by giving them allowance to be women). It's not - none of this is about the fact that she is a woman. My compliant is that at the end of the the Brother Hotchner she *WAS* incompetent. If It had been Kevin guess what? Same assessment. Penelope can throw herself fully catered, dj'd house party of a shit fit - on. her. own. time. She has a job - I want to see her actually do it. It's one of the few reasons I can tune her out... because with what must be unusually limber shoulders, I don't mind her patting herself on the back for a job well done - mostly because she get her job done well. And sure, maybe she did need to sit down and have herself a good 45 minute cry. In her line of work that is simply not acceptable. We've seen her character save someone by thinking quickly, responding quickly and most of all acting *effectively.* You don't get to sit down a cry whenever you want when someone's life (presumably the life of someone on your team) is on the line. Not if you want to be able to go through your yearly evaluation with a straight face when describing yourself as "professional".
  17. I've been a fan of CM for a while, but due to my job and scheduling and my really awful access to tv (I live in the middle of nowhere) it was mostly hit or miss when I would get to watch an episode. Now that Netflix has it I have binge watched through the first eight seasons. I've come to this forum now and again to see what people thought about one thing or another... but never felt like writing until now. Mostly because I just finished the episode "Brothers Hotchner" and the end had me more irritated with Garcia than anything. She's getting her computers hacked and the best, the absolute best she can do is back away in trembling fear?? She's supposed to be so good she is on the CIA list, she's been hammered for how good she is supposed to be. I'm watching this thinking "Bitch! This is your KINGDOM! Get on the boards and destroy whoever would hack your home." But no... she simpers. Like some weak, ineffective amateur. Until now I've been able to tune her out. Mostly. As pointed out - her dismal sense of professionalism and her eye-searing choice of wardrobe are enough on its own. But the woman has no sense of respect for the boundaries, space and privacy of others. Ok, she's not supposed to when it comes to whoever they need her to investigate. But her friends? There is no way I'd even get close to someone like that because at the end of the day she doesn't do anything to garner trust. Her saccharine optimism simply isn't enough to outweigh what are some serious personality flaws. I really wish she wasn't on this show. I'd take her over super bland superwoman JJ any day.
  18. Vote away! I'm going in early with no spoilers. I like playing the odds :-) Jeremy has impressed me out the gate. I like his heart, he started out with a hustle which I like, and he can move. If he doesn't win I see him easily top 5.
  19. Watching Damaged (S3:E14). Spencer and Hodge have a serial killer in a locked room on death row. They want out, officers are on rotation, the convict threatens to kill them to commute his execution while they prosecute their murders. So Spencer says he knows why this guy killed so many women. A montage of him explaining, thorough, clinical, exact. The convict is first skeptical, then intrigued and then almost - moved. Hopeful that there is an actual explanation for what has made him into the monster he is. Spencer talks long enough that the guards show up and let them out. On their way out the convict asks "Is that true? Is that why I can't stop?" "I don't know. Maybe." Spencer says barely looking at him as he leaves. The convict is utterly deflated. Awesome.
  20. Oh!! ROUND things!! I swore he said BROWN things and I just couldn't figure out what the hell he was talking about.
  21. Interesting note on the Wiki page about continuity Now I have to go back and watch that episode...
  22. So I've had the night to sort things out a bit and am coming back for a fuller treatment of the episode and the tangential issues. I found it amusing that the Doctor struggled to put Clara in context of his life - but found the dinosaur to be a "beautiful woman." Little nods like this did sell the "I'm an alien" far more than any of the age/sex issues they pounded us over the head with. Clara - here's my fanwanking regarding her discomfort and hesitation over the Doctor's new face - there was never an indication that Clara ever remembered all of her different "echo lives" when she fragmented in the Doctor's timestream. Each one of her fragments was an echo, but an independent individual echo, separate from the "Clara" that is the origins for all the other Clara's in the Doctor's path. I don't think she was ever in a position to remember all of those serial lives. At best I think she just had flashes, bits that probably seemed incoherent and lacking context... but nothing linear, consistent or coherent. For me I never really doubted that this was a real struggle for her to wrap her head around. It seemed very reasonable to me, especially for what was a near instantaneous regeneration (opposed to the more drawn out one where you can see the features shift). I love, love, LOVED the scene where Capaldi states "one of us is lying about our programming" and the Droid agrees. But we're never overtly informed if the Doctor is a murderer (of course he is/isn't - didn't he/not destroy all of Gallifrey <ahem>) - we don't know if the Droid jumped or was pushed. And the look(!) Capaldi shot... he was right, his eyebrows are independently angry! I love his eyebrows. I could have tea with those eyebrows and watch them throw all the pottery against the wall. Vestra - OTOH I find myself rankling at her objectification of her wife. "You brighten up the room" as a pretty vase of flowers might. BUT, I'm willing to overlook that as being more about her species than commentary on the nature of women (I'm cutting Moffat slack, but I'm not convinced he deserves it). To that end I can see her somewhat dismissive/degrading comments as being part of her character - besides her character has a habit of doing that anyway. I'm chalking it up as species bias than a kind of misogyny. What took me out of her character is her just wandering about the streets of London with a veil, but not actually using it. I can kind of sort of be a little ok with the police capt being aware of her lizard... but everyone else on the street? Honestly I'd be more alarmed to see a bipedal lizard wearing clothes even if there were a T-Rex rampaging the city a few miles off. At least one has a modicum of reality to it. But nope - Victorian Londoners seem to be ok with her bossing around the police. It would have been a little more realistic (for a lizard woman wandering the streets of London) to at least keep a thin veil on as a nod to the audience that she takes steps to hide her appearance. I enjoyed Strax when he interacted on a one-on-one basis, especially with Clara. Telling her "good job" on the spleen was funny as was his compliment on her appearance and then taking it back as it was a "trick of the light." The phone call - I actually thought it was a pretty clever of 12 to call Clara. Not for her, but for him. He was looking out for his next version of himself, knowing that there would be that vulnerability and fear and knew that Clara would be the one to help ground him. I didn't take it as a good-bye to Clara. Oddly I felt like Clara's role with Smith's Doctor was conflicted in that he was physically attracted to her, but not very connected to her. At times he genuinely didn't seem to care very much for her, most like just fascinated with the enigma she appeared to be. So when he called her it just seemed more self-serving (not that that is a bad thing) and less of a specific good-bye to her.
  23. I was skeptical. With each new Doctor I need a few episodes before I start to warm up. And I was extra skeptical because apparently I was suffering from a combination of enjoying hot male leads and ageism (which is weird, because I go for older men... I digress). In any case, I wasn't feeling Capaldi... until the end of the episode. Granted, he's an amazing actor and his line delivery was excellent. I'll need to watch again because there were some excellent quips that I can't easily recall. Jenny was lovely... count me as another straight women who enjoyed her scenes. Although the "we're married... and we're gay... did you get that? We're MARRIED" got hammered one too many times for my taste. Not sure why they kept making a big deal out of it. The phone call... I wasn't spoiled for a single thing so it was a wonderful breath catching moment. I loved hearing his voice and then we get to see him. So damn bittersweet. Just an excellent, excellent start to the season!!
  24. I'm on a rewatch, I am really having a hard time deciding which episodes really get in the top of my list. I love the Pilot just for the introductions of the cast, sans Claudia. Ironically one of my least favorite is "Claudia." The story was just kinda dull to me. I won't be able to come to a conclusion until the whole rewatch is complete... but I did want to know what others enjoyed the most and the least through the series.
  25. It seems *most* contestants prefer to reward big splashy behavior so long as it results in *something* happening, without regard to the intent or effectiveness of what that move actually was. If you flail around in the water, but don't actually swim that is going to be more noticeable than just treading water. In either case you aren't going to actually go very far, but your getting the attention. Even if you lied the whole time and can swim just fine. Makes me wonder, if it had come down to Woo and Kass, I suspect that Woo would have won, but Kass would have gotten more than one vote.
