  1. No. Dulce did not get to host for a full week; she did not get to do three more episodes after her first episode hosting.
  2. I think you pretty much have it. I think most questions about why television networks do what they do can be answered by one or a combination of the following: ratings, money, sponsors.
  3. Do we have a return date? I heard sometime in February but I wasn't sure if that was a rumor or something official.
  4. If this is the show, I'll stick with it. I went in expecting something more like White Collar (cons and someone going undercover to catch the bad guys), but it turned out to be more like Castle (someone with a different perspective and seemingly off the wall theories working with the police). It's fluff, but good quality fluff. I also appreciate that it isn't "will they or won't they." It's a nice change of pace for this kind of series.
  5. I have no inside information, but it's possible offers were made and negotiations fells apart/never went anywhere. Dulce's week was cut short. She hosted on Monday and the writers' strike started Tuesday/the next day. Me too. I was rooting for Kal Penn to take over, because he seemed like the only one asked back for a second week that didn't already have a full schedule with stand-up comedy tours or other engagements/long-term projects.
  6. I have not seen this yet and I am disappointed they cut “Stop” for a different reason. I understand the first movie came out in 2004 and they were aiming for PG-13, but I was always upset/disappointed that while Damian was gay, there no hint of a romantic life. I wasn't expecting a hardcore sex scene with him, but they could have had an off-screen character that was a crush or an ex-boyfriend who has at least mentioned once and keep the PG-13 rating. Damien's mention of his summer crush in "Stop" satisfied that need. To me, it fixed a major problem I had with the 2004 movie.
  7. I am pleased the movie received multiple nominations and I hope it wins something on Oscar night.
  8. I want The Holdovers to win something. That is what I will be rooting for on Oscar night.
  9. If anyone can figure out how to get French cheese and wine in the middle of the war, it's going to be Tristan. I picture him as first class scrounger, or someone who is acquiring the best of what is available for a high ranking military officer. Basically, I'm picturing Tristan as a version of the James Garner character in The Great Escape or The Americanization of Emily. As much as James always wants to put the animals first, it was good of Mrs. Pumfrey to remind him that there are a few things in life that matter more and that there are times you need to put loved ones first. I liked that both James and Helen realized they had been wrong.
  10. I've been rooting for Kal Penn. Maybe there's negotiations going on that people are not aware of and hasn't yet leaked to the entertainment press/regular media. I'm okay with correspondents hosting the show through the election. I still want to see Dulce Sloan get a full week solo behind the desk though.
  11. When you put it like, it does seem like it's going to be more of its own separate show than a pure continuation of Young Sheldon. I could see this possibly working if they spend more time in the auto-shop and turn it into a hybrid workplace/domestic sitcom. Show Georgie at work with his father-in-law and also Georgie at home with Mandy. I don't know how good it will be or if it would work, but your idea has a least a bit of potential.
  12. This rumor makes sense to me. If for some reason they cannot/will not name a new host, this lets them have the show and cover the primaries. https://deadline.com/2024/01/the-daily-show-news-team-hosts-2024-1235795490/
  13. Yes. When I think of older spin-offs, I think of two things. One is what you mentioned; after a series ends, taking a single character and following them to a new location/situation. Lou Grant and Frasier are excellent examples of this. The second is taking a character that may be more a side character/recurring character or only appeared once and creating a show around them. Examples of this would Laverne and Shirley who appeared in a few episodes of Happy Days before getting their own show. Maude and the Jeffersons each appeared in multiple episodes of All in the Family before getting their own show. My problem with the Georgie and Mandy spin-off is that it feels more like a continuation of Young Sheldon than a new/separate show. If they wanted to go the route of more or less continuing Young Sheldon without Sheldon, create a new show Young Missy. I've been hoping they would let her (Adult Missy) narrate an episode. I can't be the only one who would love to hear what Missy thought/her perspective on her family, her neighbors, classmates, and life. Also, Missy is severely underdeveloped and underused. This would be the perfect way to fix that.
  14. I didn't absolutely love the show, but I am intrigued enough to see where it goes and how it develops. It has potential. I love the format/formula.
  15. I think what would be helpful for the Americans trying to figure this out, is pre-decimal to decimal conversation. Once we have pre-decimal to decimal, we can type decimal into an exchange calculator, and then put that into an inflation calculator, or vice-versa. I'm not sure which makes sense to do first. If someone else has another idea or if I've missed a necessary step, please post it. I feel totally confident that the people on this board can more or less crowdsource a way to get the answer.
  16. Birth control existed, it was just unreliable. I can't imagine James buying condoms (although they did exist) but the rhythm method is possible although it was/is incredibly unreliable and not that effective.
  17. I agree with @MaryMitch and @magdalene. There needs to be someone doing the bookkeeping and keeping track of appointments, but I am not sure if Helen wants the job because she is still pretty involved with her father's farm.
  18. I knew the secretary wouldn't last when she insisted on a form of cash payment (even if it was a deposit that would be counted towards the total bill). It demonstrated a complete lack of understanding regarding the kind of practice they had and the clientele they served. I was worried when I first heard the man at the bar mention ferret roulette, but after seeing what it was, I will award creativity points. I think this episode demonstrated how much Siegfried and James value the life of an animal. To them an animal in need of treatment deserves treatment no matter what kind of animal it is, and ending an animal's life should be the absolute last resort.
  19. My understanding from the article is that they are not removing the series from Disney+. This is addition, not subtraction. They make the movie, release it in theaters, then it goes to Disney+, and while that is happening episodes of The Mandalorian will still be available to stream on Disney+.
  20. I took that as surprise at the direction Gerald and Mrs. Hall's relationship had taken. He knew they were close friends. I think the mention of divorce made Siegfried suspect that she was thinking about marriage, and he did not expect that or realize the relationship was that serious.
  21. My guess is special effects take time to do well.
  22. The first season is not that great but it vastly improves in the second season. If you are willing to stick with the series, you will be rewarded, especially if you are a fan of Bertha.
  23. Based on the kind of school the movie is set at, it was probably not a totally random stranger. That kind of school tends to draw from a rather insular world. It may have been starting to open up in 1970, but there was a better than average chance they may have known the parents directly or through friends of friends. The fact that the invitation came from a parent's classmate may have been all the information the parents needed in 1970 to say yes.
  24. I do like the idea of a long lost love for Agnes. If there is an escape, George has to be in on it and actively helping or aware of it but not doing anything to stop it. I actually like the idea of seeing some of the characters working together trying to help her with the escape.
  25. My guess is that he looked better on paper. Who he seemed to be based on his application may not be the same as who he is in person.
