  1. It seems like it's been awhile since we've seen one of those Fresh Off the Boat style daydreams. That made me smile. More Jim Carrey tributes from Eddie. Respect. Parks and Recreation is my all time favorite comedy, which meant I had to endure almost yearly questions of whether the series would be renewed as the series struggled in TV ratings all throughout its run. FotB has its flaws, but I hope it comes back for at least another season. The ending scene had one of those "could double as a series finale type of bowtie" vibe to it (Parks and Recreation had several of those type of episodes).
  2. Nice little payoff with the Louis and Eddie plot, as the show touched on Dave's family problems even back in season 1. When Emery did that anagram of Tara Lipinski (I think that was the original word) on the fridge, he left out a few letters. Tipped their hands that Emery/Evan were faking the story. I'm slowly catching on to Matthew. He and Louis got a wacky buddy thing going on. Mr Tim is the man. Hilarious how he rebutted every one of Jessica's challenges. "How else would a barber get a haircut?"
  3. Cute episode. I liked how Eddie was the wise one rather than the two prodigies, without even trying. Marvin continues to be one of the best parts of the show. Don't know what it is, maybe he's a throwback to older sitcoms that had overly cheerful neighbors.
  4. "Yes, that class seems like.....a great use of tiiime." Jessica's delivery is on point. Also, it's a bad idea because it'll summon the Shadow King.
  5. Marvin, such a teddy bear! One of the few times I laughed at an Eddie-centric plot. That whole episode with the tweens tweakin off the coffee, and the all-too-pre-adolescent love advice, just ridiculous enough to be hilarious. Emery is pretty versatile too. Still innocent enough to tag team with Evan, but grown up enough to hang out with the bigger cool kids.
  6. The previous episode of Jessica's novel was pretty rough, but at least this episode takes a different direction on this storyline. Now she has real criticisms from the editors, and she even has some doubt that the book will be successful. It's at least not as linear as her realtor days, where she's been relatively successful right off the bat. Lol at what her final photo ended up being, wasn't expecting such an ordinary photo, but hey, I liked it.
  7. Gah, same here, I don't know where the writers were going with this one. Even if the part of the message was "to be honest with each other," they immediately had Jessica lie about liking Louis' earrings, albeit a smaller scale white lie for a quick laugh. Usually I try not to expect every episode of a family comedy to have a wholesome moral or resolution, but at least FotB usually would end with a fairly good vibe. Didn't really feel that way after this episode.
  8. I'm not one for sappy endings, but I totally loved the resolution between Marvin and Nicole. He was obviously distraught upon hearing the news, but it was because he was beating himself up about that comment about playing for the other team. Lol at Bev passing out because she stayed up watching the VH1 awards.
  9. I'd argue it was, since the whole time Louis was trying to get Evan to do what HE (Louis) wanted, even after knowing that Evan already had plans. Louis had to use his clever salesman tactics to initially get Evan to promise to stay, and while it may work to get a sweet deal on a pumpkin, it doesn't quite work for a kid whose heart really isn't into the whole candy giving activity. However, it's too bad that while Louis learned his lesson, Evan got a pass for breaking his promise. I guess the resolution can't end too perfectly, although there was a nice moment where we're reminded that Evan is still just a kid who's afraid to walk by himself at night, which is good enough for Louis.
  10. Eddie and crew's plan was to be cool and grownup enough to get into that Senior's party, which to them meant "act hardcore as possible." It wasn't so much a game, but the friends eventually fell out one by one because as youngins, they're just not innately hard enough - Walter loooves kids, Dave looks like he's crying, and Brian.... well enough said lol. As ringleader, Eddie tried to get everyone to stay the course to get into the party, but even he got spooked out by Trent's badassness. Seems like I'm part of the minority these days, but I don't mind all of these character flaws, this episode being Louis vs Evan in particular. Sure it creates conflict, but it's sure more entertaining than if they were polite all the time. And even if these flaws may make them seem inconsiderate (especially Jessica), for the most part, there are reasons, albeit imperfect behind the way they act, as opposed to being randomly dickish. From Evan's point of view, he never wanted to stay home handing out candy in the first place, and while he had a plan to have a quick stay at the party before going back home, he found himself having fun and honestly losing track of time. Above all, he's 11 and growing up....he's not going to stay the innocent Evan forever. I'd say Louis was the more irrational one, trying to drag Evan out of the party for self serving reasons. Even then, he had a decent reason, as he wanted to preserve the childhood he never had for Evan, which he then eventually realized wasn't the right approach. All in all, the show definitely has its flaws, but I tend to overlook them (which includes any 90s reference inaccuracies) as I'm laughing at all their silly jokes/gags.
  11. Louis is great! He always has those overly cheerful but awkward moments, this episode being his little tune with the piano scarf, complete with mine-playing the scarf. Also love when he tries to be the mediator/adviser to Jessica and having it more or less backfire when Jessica vows to destroy Evan in a debate. Nice swerve with Evan needing Jessica to fight for his spot in the team. Thought the episode was going to come down to a duel, but even though this resulted in a rather happy and tidy ending, I like this turn of events because it highlights Jessica's real issue: the feeling of not being needed anymore by her children, especially her youngest one. However the guise of competition between the egotistical mother and the up-and-coming son was still super hilarious. It's too bad the show's momentum with viewers gets a little broken with these 1-2 week long breaks (I'm sure it happens with many other TV shows), because I love love love this show! Somehow it features a mother who, on paper, can be conceited, strict, competitive, and even inconsiderate, yet is quite possibly the most popular (and maybe loved?) character on the show. It does make for great plots and episodes, especially when the tables get turned on her like this past one.
  12. (whooops totally posted this in the wrong episode thread haha).
  13. That ending to the golf plot was a little weird, didn't seem there was any resolution or lessons learned. Not that Jessica or Louis' styles were "right" or "wrong" in the first place, guess it was more Jessica accepting that different styles of parenting are OK. I do like the flashes of change within the characters this season. It's like the first two seasons were used to establish certain personality traits so that they can slowly be changed in later seasons. This episode it was Evan actually resenting Jessica, albeit in a rather comedic way.
  14. LMAO, the show's flashbacks and daydreams are always hilarious.
  15. The fact that Jessica never cared about her past is pretty big, because before Jessica, Honey had no friends in the neighborhood. It's a bonus that they have shared interests to the extent that they could hang out and even talk about random things (ie the billiards episode). Switching gears, one thing that was inconsistent is that Louis has gotten totally wasted before with no mention of the flush, with Steve in the thanksgiving episode (Louis even wore Steve's pink elephant shorts, lol). This episode did try to explain it with Louis' extensive prevention ritual, but that drinkfest with Steve seemed a little too spontaneous for Louis to step away and do his ritual beforehand. One more thing, is Jessica's Chinese accent slowly going away? It's not as pronounced as s1, and as criticized and inauthentic it may be, I liked it, even if it's just a hint of it (in s2 and so far in s3). It helps in her comedic delivery as an older generation immigrant mom (despite her being relatively young) as opposed to someone more modern and Americanized.
