  1. I agree that the Hillary hate started long ago. I think Trump is an opportunist who seized on it, since it dovetails nIcely with his own misogyny.
  2. Sweet baby owl This is one of my go-to stress relievers. Scritching many capybaras Also wonderful.
  3. They're like a cross between puppies and bear cubs. Definitely eleventy on the cuteness scale . I tried to get pre op blood work done this morning but it was crazy backed up and the news was on, so I bailed. I have gone over 24 hours with no TV news and feel calmer. I sorted bottles for redemption at the animal shelter, did some organizing around the house, and took a long nap. Maybe I'll watch Joy Reid tomorrow, now that Comey is getting blasted. Add me to the list of those who are grateful for these boards. They keep me away from the WaPo comments section. (Shudder.) I don't drink, so it will be chocolate for me on election night. The good stuff!
  4. This is why I'm imposing a TV news blackout this weekend. I just can't stand it.
  5. Esquire magazine has a temporary Spy section with some great articles, including one on what a dump Trump Tower is. I lugged around a box of Spy issues for many years. I just discovered the archives are on Google books!
  6. I too am feeling sick at the news of the polls tightening (one article said it's white women who are turning his way - WHY????). I'm considering taking the weekend off from the news to get ready for my hip replacement surgery next week. Maybe I'll do some needle felting, since stabbing something might make me feel better. "Short-fingered vulgarian" has been and always will be my favorite name for Trump. Thank you, Spy magazine.
  7. What else does that Chaffetz tool do? I also loved the Tim Kaine interview. I always enjoy two smart peeps talking civilly about politics.
  8. RCP is keeping me sane! I've never thought of a Republican nominee as an existential threat before but this deranged demagogue and his horrifying supporters are making me fear for the future of humanity. Why must so many people be hateful and intolerant? The "We Are Democrats" video the White House put out makes me both hopeful and sad. We are indeed stronger together but people also suck.
  9. That for millions of Americans, reality teevee "stars" are somehow exempt from the usual rules of human conduct. Not even Jeb! would have gotten away with half the shit Trump has pulled. Plus misogyny.
  10. From the shallow end of the pool: I loved Joy's dress today. I want her on my TV every day.
  11. ^^Word. I'll also add that "Hillarycare" was blocked by a bunch of white guys who were clearly annoyed at having to deal with the First Lady as an equal.
  12. I too love listening to comedians talk about comedy, especially smart ones like Al. And I think his "not a fan" remark was, as they say, politic. My first experience of binge-watching politics was Al anchoring Comedy Central's coverage of the conventions and elections in 1992. Good times.
  13. And as Al Franken noted on Rachel Maddow's show last night, voters aren't looking for the president to be a comedian, though we do prefer people with a sense of humor that includes jokes at their own expense - something Trump simply does not have. Compare any of Trump's appearances on Letterman with Clinton's for evidence of that.
  14. Thanks to the posters who mentioned wearing white on election day. I think I have a white sweater. I'll be just a few days out from hip replacement surgery but I'll crawl to the polls if I have to!
  15. Probably the wrong thread, but I agree that HRC looked fantastic last night - as she has in all the debates and at the convention. Her smiling or nodding attentively when Trump or Wallace were talking was a nice contrast to Trump's belligerent pouting. Yup, and we've had some doozies lately.
  16. I'm trying to watch because I love Chris Cillizza but, sweet baby cheesus, I hate Joe and Mika. Please give Joy Reid this time slot!
  17. I haven't unfriended anyone but I have stopped following more people than I'd like because I just don't want to get into it, but some things I can't let pass. So ignorance is, if not bliss, the less painful route. I limit my political discussions to my left-leaning friends who prefer a fact-based reality. I enjoy reading all the thoughtful, well-informed posts here and am grateful to PTV for setting up these forums.
  18. Oh, puh-leeze. The vitriol those journalists and staff have endured is real, not some sort of fake out by Dems. Suggesting otherwise diminishes the seriousness of the threats they face.
  19. Thanks for the link! I miss him too. (I tweeted as much to Barbara Gaines a while back and she liked my tweet, so we're like BFFs now, right??)
  20. I miss Veronica so much. She could kick Trump's ass.
  21. I agree that Trump supporters are not all hateful. Some are people who are fed up with the status quo and see Trump as an agent of change. Still, I blame them for their false equivalencies, their willful ignorance, their willingness to take the chance that Trump will destroy so much of what makes America great right now. So, you know, fuck them.
  22. I wonder if vocal opposition from the republican leadership would make a difference. Trump supporters hate "the establishment" so they might see any opposition as proving their point that politicians suck and only an outsider can save us. A thoughtful commentator on All In pointed out that the republicans helped create this by constantly saying that government doesn't work.
