  1. Question though.  Was dry drowning a widely recognized medical condition back in the 60s?  I got the impression from the episode that Timothy only knew about it because of a case he'd seen in the hospital during his training.

As a General Practitioner and a trained Midwife, it's not exactly something that Patrick or Shelagh would necessarily have come across.

I am a little bothered by how man black actors they use. I am all for neutral casting. But in a historical setting, it hinders authenticity.

But not enough to ruin my enjoyment of the show.

Have you never heard of a Black Russian before?  😀

Vic's sudden descent into whatever she's going through is freaking me out. It isn't just despair over the cancellation of Crisis One, because it started before that. I can't see her losing her way over the break up with Ruiz. If that's what they are doing, it's not in character at all. So what the hell?

I wanted her outburst at the press conference to lead to the media getting involved in talking about the budget cut more and forcing the mayor's hand on restoring Crisis One. I think it's totally realistic that a great program like that gets cut, but I don't think really understand the way they are handling it in-show. I get that if they don't cut C1, something else will go. But they don't have a lot of episodes left, do they? So I don't like how they are slow walking the story.

I don't want them to do a suicide story for Hughes, and I'm afraid that's what they are going to do.

Maybe they'll have Beckett recognize the signs and be the one to save her.

And the two aunties - what did they do again? I mean, I know they play a vital role in the whole business of Rewardisting, but I can't remember what exactly they did this time?

They went and spoke to the widow of the previous accountant who had been killed in a hit and run.  She was able to tell them that pictures of the incident existed at the 'centre' so Colter knew that he had to go there.

My biggest issue with it was that they're trying to make it like the redhead has a budding romance?

You can only suspend disbelief so far.

The redhead?  Do you mean Tilly?  Why would that require any suspension of disbelief?

As for Maggie, I think she won’t be the permanent guardian of the kid and I think this episode showed why she isn’t fit to have a kid - her work is too unpredictable and demanding and she has no one to watch the kid while she’s away.

I presume Maggie has some sort of child care in place while she's working - I would guess she kept on her friends's nanny.

Anyone else start wondering when their last tetanus shot was or just me? I knew as soon as Fred cut his hand that we were heading that way. Parisi did a great job.

Mine was 30 years ago this year and I only remember the exact year because it was as a result an injury that happened a few weeks before my niece was born.

I've loved Russel Wong since  "The Vanishing Son". Ten year old me was convinced I would marry him someday, 😂. Hasn't happened yet, but who knows what the future holds, 🤞

This is why you need to have a Plan, and not just leave things to chance 😜

It was an OK episode but the whole Trixie Can't Drive part was just silly.  She is a highly competent individual, used to handling complicated situations, rides a bicycle (which takes balance and coordination), and makes quick decisions.  Watching her weave all over the road was supposed to be comical (I guess) but was really insulting to the character.  Although I did think that wearing heels while trying to learn a brake and clutch might not have been the best footwear choice.

Speaking as somebody who learned to drive on a stick shift, having a bit of a heel on your shoe is actually a big help while driving.  Having a heel allows you to keep in contact with the floor while raising and lowering the pedals which gives you more control than if you have to 'hover' your feet.  (IIRC, Mythbusters did a sequence on it and said that high heels weren't necessarily an impairment)

Question: why didn't Beau put on a mask when he saw that the dust was making him sneeze?

I don't remember Catherine being as irritating in original version CSI.

I do remember her being as irritating!

In the real world, they'd all be wearing masks and full coverage suits when collecting evidence at a crime scene.   These days I'd settle for them at least having their hair properly tied back.

What was the pension or retirement situation at the time?  If Phyllis becomes unable to work, will she have some income or support?  She is not a nun like Sister Monica Joan who can depend on the order taking care of her.

There would have been a state pension in place at that time.  Phyllis - having likely worked all her adult life - would have been eligible for it once she'd hit retirement age.

But she did have a windfall a few seasons back and IIRC was going to put some of the funds away in a pension, so she would be more secure in her retirement than a lot of people in her place.

No one here yet? Watched the first two episodes and I’m kinda mesmerized.  The idea of how to catch a criminal and unearth a potential conspiracy without modern investigative technology and media is so interesting.  And Tobias Menzies is so good.

I wonder if people are overlooking this thread because they think it's an older series.  I know I didn't realise it was the right thread until I clicked through.

I'm enjoying it so far, but from the point of view of a non-American, a lot of it is so new to me, since my history lessons would have only covered the basics of the assassination, if that.

  13. I don't know if it's available outside of the UK, but I have a subscription to Digiguide TV.

It can be downloaded to a computer or accessed online.  You tell it what channels you have and it works like an EPG on the tv, with the programmes being updated regularly as the TV stations update them.   So you can see what's on and search for upcoming shows.

Surely there's something similar in the USA, or maybe the number of TV stations might make it unfeasible.

  14. I hate the idea of permanent partners.  I always enjoyed the original CSI because it used to mix and match the pairings.  (don't get me started on season 5 though).

I wish Josh hadn't been reinstated, but at least he was trying to live up to his demotion, whereas Allie seemed ready to treat him like he was still at his previous CSI level.

And the closing song was Folsom Prison Blues.  Wow show, could you be any less subtle?

I'm so glad this comment section helped me out with this detail! I missed where the photo we saw came from and didn't remember the article.

There had to be a trigger, some reason he was doing this to lure / hurt Will at this moment in time and not before. This tracks.

Yes, I left that scene 100% sure that Amanda was getting busy with the journalist, and not for the first time. We also know that Amanda was married, Faith's mom mentioned that Trent was her maiden name. Did we learn who she was married to?

I liked this show! I agree it's disjointed at times but I like the characters. We've certainly seen the oddball, trauma-survivor, hyper observant detective before but Will manages to feel a little different. I like that he has more humor and big-heartedness than this type of character is often given.

IIRC, Trent was Amanda’s mother’s maiden name, not her own.

IIRC she was best friends with the daughter of the man. The daughter was "It's all good.  My best friend is married to my father."  WTH????

To be fair to the parents (although I'm not in any way condoning it), the daughter had previously run away and been living in a commune, doing drugs, and gotten pregnant before they were able to find her and bring her home.  IIRC (and it's been a long time since I read the book), they were afraid that she might run away again if they pressed charges.

Then why isnt all of this information simply posted on wikipedia then if you dont mind me asking?

Basically because nobody has taken the time to edit it.  The streaming services could have their social media people update Wikipedia if they wanted to.

There is an app called JustWatch which collates the information on what is showing on what streaming services.

You tell it what streaming services you have, and then when you search for a movie/tv show, it'll tell you where its streaming.  It also lists what's coming soon.

From what I heard, it's to fill out the 22 episode quota. The fact that it's partially a clip show (and a poorly done one) further supports that theory.

I always appreciated the way that Xena was so creative in its clip shows.  Most shows when doing a clip show seemed to use either the 'main character is in a coma' or 'main character has amnesia' trope as a premise for clips shows, but Xena and Hercules at least had some original ideas.

I like Nash and Eliza too, but as colleagues, not lovers. She and William belong together. I was so surprised to learn about William's background in the earlier episode, I had no idea he was on the streets as he seems like a refined gentleman. Not that you cannot become so, but I just thought he came from a posher background or at least something akin to Eliza's growing up situation. They are a great on screen pair and I miss him. I also miss his protege, and would like both William and his protoge to come and work for Nash. Hell, I'd like Nash to stick around as well because I think having a strong foursome in the mix would do wonders for the show being able to have multiple storylines per episode.

We knew from the first season that William didn't have a posh background.  IIRC, at one point he was bemoaning the fact that he'd been passed over for promotion because of who he was, in spite of his skills as a detective.  And I thought for an episode or two that he'd finally understood a little of the prejudices that Eliza had to deal with, but of course it didn't last.

I'm not unhappy that he's gone.  The trouble is that given the setting of the show, Eliza and William can't both have a happy ending.  Marriage might be William's happy ending, but Eliza would lose her independence.

Been watching Buffy and was going to watch Angel chronological with Buffy. Watched the 1st ep of Angel, and suddenly remembered why I never got into the show in the first place. I did watch S5, but that was more to morn the loss of Buffy. is it worth sticking with? I think I did watch the pilot of Angel when it originally aired, and same thing happened there. Just didn't grab me like Buffy did.

YMMV, but I know that I enjoyed Angel more than Buffy back when they first aired.  (Although that's possibly because I was way past high school at the time).  I think it's worth sticking with.

I've actually started rewatching it recently and I'd forgotton how much humour there is, although it's well balanced with the darker side.
