  1. I hate that kind of challenge--some of those flavors are definitely easier than others.
  2. This was my wedding cake (from last summer), so naturally I was leaning Clement. His flavors interested me the most, too. I can't believe Christian had basically no chocolate after the couple specifically requested it.
  3. When I saw Foster pouring in the extract, I knew she was gone. Holy smokes. I was surprised how many of the kids struggled with all the parts of this challenge. I would've expected more cakes to be better.
  4. I appreciate the kid who mentioned that he was licensed (and had trademarked his Cinna-Roe name). Whenever these kids talk about having their own businesses, I always wonder about the logistics. Like, the one girl who said how much she's earned--is that net or gross?
  5. The show lists Kristen as being from Staten Island; there's definitely Long Island in her accent, and I think something else.
  6. Derek and Claire only have one backpack. I'm not sure they ever had two. Derek's the one who always carries it.
  7. Yep, I've had fancy s'mores at restaurants and honestly, give me some Honey Maid, Jet Puffed, and a Hershey's bar. (Though I'm fine playing with the chocolate component--Ghiradelli or a Reese's cup in there is amazing.) And honestly, I prefer the mass-produced marshmallows to the homemade/restaurant-made marshmallows. But I also have very basic tastes.
  8. Loved the woman in Munich who told the cheerleaders they were in the wrong country (and kudos, as ever, to the Amazing Cameraperson for capturing that moment). Her face was classic.
  9. I found that oddly off-putting. Like, you're not even pregnant yet! It's one thing to say in a talking head that they want to have fun and win money because they want to start a family soon, but weird to be at a task and yelling "This is for Boom-Boom!"
  10. I thought the EW article was really interesting. A lot of people around here have said that Michael didn't have a social game, but the jury clearly disagrees.
  11. I believe the scientist was the kilted Scot--James, I think. Kevin was the Scot without the kilt.
  12. It does all feel rushed, but I am pleased at the body diversity in the final 24. There are people in there who I don't think Nigel would let even sniff that far into the competition.
  13. Yes! That made just ZERO sense and I also think of it every time someone does a macaron now.
  14. I hate how contrived these things are--on all the baking competitions. I don't need a story about why you're making the contestants do something. Just say that you want a cake that looks like a Mardi Gras float or a dessert that looks like a garden or whatever. And don't have the judges look surprised at whatever the challenge is. It's all so contrived and dumb. And it's even MORE grating here, where they're pretending they're in Molly's barn? It's dumb. It's not like Chopped tries to pretend it's something more than chefs in a kitchen.
  15. I don't really remember king cake tasting like cinnamon, either. I mostly found the texture a bit odd. Jaleesa is on Twitter (@ChefJaleesa) and posted Also a panic attack.
  16. They've enforced the "inflatables must be across the line" rule before, so that was a bit of a mystery.
  17. I can't disagree with the decision to eliminate Joseph, but I'll miss him. Ellora continues to be adorable.
  18. I need to know the details behind what happened in the second episode from this week--two teams hit HARD with penalties. I need to see the receipts!
  19. Joseph probably should've gone over Caroline, but that would've left Santiago as the only boy left. I didn't dislike Caroline, but Joseph's one of my favorites, so I was glad he stayed. Ellora is definitely my favorite, though. I love her.
  20. Was definitely annoyed to see that the episode description for the "anti-resolutions" episode have something like, "Guy and Hunter have the chefs..."
  21. I knew going in that Jurgen would be sent home (my Google app spoiled it for me Tuesday night, WTF), but watching it, it seemed that it should've been Giuseppe. Those flavor critiques for the showstopper seemed much worse than Jurgen's "Your entremets should have been more visually interesting." But devastating to lose any of them; what a fantastic final four.
  22. I couldn't tell if the bakers were upset about the woodland creatures, having to use marzipan, or both. I was also very confused by Nancy's critique of Jose's cake. It seemed very negative, but then was...fine? LOVED the campfire cake. Those flavors also sounded fantastic.
  23. If Sarah Beth isn't nominated immediately, I will be VERY surprised.
  24. I think my problem is that I remember Jason from when he was a contestant on Holiday Baking and Food Network Star, so I know that his background is as a home chef. Which doesn't mean that he doesn't have knowledge, but I just have a hard time accepting him being seen as the expert when the contestants likely have more training, experience, and knowledge than he does. Also, to be catty, he's apparently only 43?!
  25. Exactly. He needs to stop saying things like, "That lemon would knock a hog out of the mud!" I had hoped he might have toned it down, which I remember him doing for another competition show, but that's not the case. Does something need salt? Does one flavor highlight or subdue another? Say that. Stop making odd comparisons and trying to sound folksy. I know that's his brand, but I really, really dislike it.
