  1. We must be watching different shows. I cannot remember ever thinking of Judy as being overly harsh or bitchy in her criticisms of the dancers either in discussion with other people, the TH segments or directly to girls themselves. Her criticisms have always seemed pretty measured and supportable to me. I've actually wished she would speak up more when debating with Kelli and/or Charlotte (or the rest of the judging panel) on the dancers' capabilities as I consider her to be the most qualified person in the room. I will miss Judy and her fabulous hair when they put her out to pasture.
  2. A couple unpopular opinions on past DCCs: Most unattractive - Trisha Trevino. I could not handle her googly fish eyes. I'm sure she's a lovely person but man I thought she was homely. Most annoying hair - Danielle. I HATED how she always kept tossing it over to one side..it was so distracting. I loved it when Kitty called her out on it and told her to stop it but it obviously made no difference. (I noticed TCC Savannah does the same thing; what is it with these former Jets Flight Crew ladies?!)
  3. That scene reminded me of the year Mia auditioned and went to Kitty's for the critique before finals. Mia's kicks were terrible and I remember Kitty lifting one of Mia's legs straight up in front of her and putting it up on her (Kitty's) shoulder to show Mia how she should practice stretching to improve her kicks.
  4. Thank you for nicely distilling my lengthy trip off into the weeds!
  5. The definition of being 'great at DCC style' is purely subjective as are judgements that Kashara is 'far from the best' at however each person would define DCC style. No one knows how Kashara was viewed by the powers and in my humble opinion her dancing has greatly improved over the past years, so we will just have to agree to disagree (as we often do around here which keeps the conversation interesting). The team is not a sorority, true. But a certain level of comeraderie anchored by a leader who is respected by most appears to be important to the functioning of the group as a whole (recall Kelly's discussion with Jenna about the importance of being a role model for other team members, etc.) I can imagine that the Holly/Jenna/Erica drama(s), including the departure of two senior vets and the perceived 'demotion' of the remaining one (and defacto team leader) left a void in team leadership that K&J never expected they'd need to address. Kashara was rookie of the year, right? And this is voted on by her team mates, yes? So she must have established some level of positive support among the team. She may have been the best person to bring forward in the moment to send the kind of message/signal to the rest of the team when the former established 'leaders' self-destructed. Sorry to be long-winded. Should've left it at 'agree to disagree' right?! ?
  6. Kashara may not be the best technical dancer on the team, but she exudes a playful/sexy sassiness that I'm sure many find very entertaining, which is the bottom line after all. And I do agree that she is obviously one of Kelli's favorites. Kelli makes no bones about enjoying the 'Kasexy,' and it did appear she may have scored a lot of points by making poor Yuko feel more included. Kashara may better fit Kelli's definition of dynamic right now. Lacey is a beautiful technical dancer and I love to watch her.. but perhaps Kelli doesn't see her as dynamic in the sense of generating as much attention-grabbing broad appeal to the uneducated (dance-wise) audience. Have to add that personally I enjoy the more interesting if less technically perfect dancers in the context of the venue that the DCC perform in - i.e. entertaining a still largely beer-swilling male crowd (see comment above re: unsophisticated audience). I wouldn't say Mia Greenhouse was a technical standout, but she was a great point (IMO) because she had that extra sassy something that kept your attention on her. (Sometimes they get lucky and find someone with both, like Jenn K.) If she hangs around I could see Kalyssa at point someday as she also has that extra something special that others don't in spite of her being the first to admit during auditions that she doesn't have the technical skills others have. I would be more critical of, and have higher expectations for, technical excellence if I was at a ballet or serious dance competition for example. However when watching a group of beautiful girls decked out in micro hot pants and cleavage-baring tops at a football game, technical chops may not always carry the day as to deciding who gets to be front and center.
  7. I can't believe we're spending so much time on Gina..! Having said that, here is my last comment on the subject of her purported conceited/arrogant/haughty, etc. attitude. If she was a man competing with other guys for a spot on a male team, I doubt the same comments (e.g. 'I have training others don't') would be seen as evidence of the guy having an bad attitude. In other words, I see a bit of a double standard here. Some of us here are still offended by women who don't act like a 'lady;' i.e. she should be more self-deprecating and not so 'full of herself,' etc. Please note - I'm not saying I like or dislike Gina's attitude here - it's actually irrelevant- rather that I doubt we'd even be debating the subject if it was a man who behaved the same way.
  8. Yeah, they definitely don't bring ole' Neil back for his his thoughtful/insightful observations on dance technique. Personally I don't mind too much when he blurts out one of his ridiculous dirty old-man comments, only because it's an entertaining break from all the seriously serious estrogen in the room. Guys will always be guys. ?
  9. I didn't feel like she was being disrespectful. She came across to me as simply perplexed because their comments came as a surprise. I'm sure she's not the first or last dancer who's felt that way, but unlike most she just voiced her surprise aloud. She has confidence in her abilities, no question; but to me her comments struck me as more mature and professional as opposed to arrogant or boastful. If she'd talked about J&K's comments in an irritated, whiny, challenging or defiant way, then that type of attitude would've likely verged into disrespectful for me.
  10. What about Hannah in Season 9? She had made show group the year before as a rookie; was she cut for her weight before SG tryouts or didn't make SG at all that year..? (Or were you asking about TCCs and not vets and I missed that part.. if so, sorry!)
  11. Seriously! The DCC uniform (or as Kelli refers to it, their 'Superman cape') itself could be considered pretty raunchy given how barely-there it is. I think Kalyssa looked great in that hip hop number; much more natural and fun to watch (for me) than any of the dancers around her.
  12. Agree that the show has gone downhill, this season especially. I feel like now I'm trying to hang on simply out of loyalty since I loved the earlier seasons so much. The show has been so boring that they should've introduced whatever drama awaits (Holly/Jenna/Erica) much sooner. Waiting for those stories is really the only reason I'm still watching now since I couldn't care less about the blandest rookie class I can remember. The guest choreographers (other than Screaming Kitty) make it a smidge more interesting for me (although it seems like CMT must have some kind of deal promoting alumni dancers from SYTYCD). More Michelle Keys, please!
  13. Their position definitely sends a message to me -- Judy is but one of the many small celestial bodies that orbit the sun that is Kelli! ?
  14. Totally random question -- why does Judy persist in perching on a stool vs. sitting in a chair beside Kelli? At the old studio I figured it had something to do with Kelli's office being kind of small, but now she still does it even though they sit in that new large conference room. I have a lot of respect for Judy but sitting as she does she kind of reminds me of a bird perched on Kelli's shoulder..
  15. I agree completely. I wouldn't have expected her to enumerate all the negatives/criticisms she received. She's trying to walk away with her head held high and I applaud her for that.
