  1. Hers do look like prison tats. Just random words and doodles. Nothing like you'd get from a professional tattoo artist. It doesn't help that she has them on her neck and face.
  2. So Kennedy is going to get a pass every time she messes up, and everyone will continue to talk about how great she is. Of course without being able to taste the dishes, I can't know for sure, but MD's plate at least looked appetizing and like she put some effort into it. Kennedy's was a small pile of dried out looking meat and vegetables with a demented squiggle of some kind of sauce or puree taking up half the plate. Even when the meat was still on the grill and the judges asked to see it, it was obvious the thing was overcooked. And so disgusting how much the judges talked about how Kennedy was carrying Sav during the Wall challenge and then acted like it was some kind of unheard of miracle that Sav produced the better plate between the two of them. The show ignored Sav for weeks, but since she's been getting some airtime, her dishes have looked much better than Kennedy's. Sorry to see Kolby go. His grill plate looked so good (as did Grant's), and the Wall failure wasn't entirely his fault. It seems like he let Brynn take the lead and the raspberry sauce with salmon was just a weird, bad idea. His salmon was a bit under, although not raw, as the judges were trying to claim since you could see it flaking through the center, but even if his salmon had been cooked to the judge's liking, I think that team still would have gone. The other three teams all have at least one judge's pet, so there was no way they were going.
  3. I'm sure you're right about the sink scene. I just don't remember it. That's the problem with binging; if I watch too many episodes in one sitting, I start to get fuzzy on the details.
  4. I think that was Julian, the informant, who Andy threatened, as he was the one who helped bury Danny. I don't remember a sink; I think this happened in the interrogation room. Julian had been brought in on some other charge and he offered to trade info on a body, not knowing who it was, but Andy realized it was Danny and beat and threatened Julian. But I still don't get the why of it; they knew Danny was a cop and knew he knew they were mob because they had been testing him to see if he was corrupt. So I guess they found out he wasn't? I could watch again, but it seems like they left it murky. That was the first episode after 9-11, and it already had an especially somber feel to it. I remember reading that in the scene where they find Danny's body, when Andy walks away and looks across the river, he's looking at the spot where the twin towers stood. I don't know the geography of Manhattan so I don't know if that's accurate, but that's how I read that scene and so it feels especially tragic to me.
  5. I just finished the whole series and ... wow. So, so good, and so much better than anything I've seen in ages. I thought I had originally missed only the last season or two, but it was actually the last four seasons. I must have seen a few episodes here and there because I remembered John Clark coming in and the storyline with Rodriguez's ex-wife, but I couldn't have been watching it consistently because Connie and Andy was completely new to me. They slow-walked that relationship and I didn't watch enough to pick up on it before. I loved that so much; I think I liked them together more than Andy and Sylvia. Also, I originally missed the episode where they found Danny's body and solved his murder (or sort of solved it; we know who, I'm still not clear on why). Overall, I thought it was great, but I do feel like it went on maybe a couple of seasons too long; I would have wished for them to have wrapped up the series before Esai Morales left the show and we got stuck with Gibson and then Bale as the COs, and before Charlotte Ross left to just be an off-screen mention. The plus of letting it go on was Sipowicz's great character arc; it's really something to see the last scene where he's quietly working in the CO's office and contrast that with the first episode where he having sex with a prostitute and getting shot a half dozen times. His character growth was believable; he's still got his prejudices but less willing to let them control him, and he remains as prickly and overly sensitive as ever. Oh, the other great thing about season 12: GHOST OF BOBBY. I started crying as soon as Andy saw him in the hospital bed.
  6. Haha, the "landlocked" comment was so dumb, as if people who don't catch their own fish have never cooked or eaten fish. I can't remember who said it but I assume it was Joe. I've lived my entire life close to the ocean, rivers, and lakes, but when I want fish, I just go to the store. That was also dumb on his part. A patty melt is a polite, tidy cheeseburger. I did think Texas Toast wasn't a good choice because the slices are a bit too thick for a grilled sandwich, but the idea that it should be like a half-pound of beef hanging out the sides or whatever he was trying to say is nonsense. But that's Joe. No matter what you do he'll criticize. For example on the MRE challenge, regardless of how many the contestants used, he had something to say about it. "You're using 8 MREs? Do you really think it's a good idea to try to incorporate that many?" "You're only using 3 MREs? Is that going to be sufficient?"
  7. NINE hours of Murder, She Wrote everyday. Good grief. That's as bad as FAVE when it had six hours of The Office everyday and would get through the entire series in three weeks. Speaking of overkill, how much does Adrian love lamps? I'm not even sure I've spotted them all, but so far I've seen four in the living room (two on each end table, one next to the armchair, and one on the desk), three in the bedroom (one on each nightstand, one on the dresser), two in the dining room, and one in the hallway. That's ten lamps, plus the two extra lamps he bought when he broke the desk lamp in the billionaire mugger episode. I don't have ten lamps and I live in a four-bedroom house. Nonetheless, I love his apartment. The layout is so great, and Mission style furniture is perfect for it.
  8. I only remember Kelsey as being the narrator of her season and obvious winner from early on. Her actual food, I don't remember at all. I was surprised by everyone acting as if her serving restaurant quality food at a stadium was revolutionary. I don't know about most stadiums, but all of the ones I've been to over probably the last 30 years have had higher-end options and where I live now, two people could easily spend $70 or $80 on food alone. Fortunately for me, on the rare occasions that I go to a game I'm happy with a regular dog and a beer and those nachos with that orange substance and one lonely jalapeno slice on top. The judges were too harsh with Kolby when they said his patty melt wasn't special enough. I don't see how Jennifer's pulled pork sandwich or, for that matter, Kelsey's Cuban sandwich and sticky wings were any more special. If Kolby had made the very same thing with what's called Wagyu or Kobe beef (but really isn't because anything you get outside of Japan called Wagyu or Kobe is rarely authentic and prohibitively expensive), they would have fallen all over themselves to praise him.
  9. Pretty clear from both episodes that the judges wanted to get rid of Charles no matter what. In the first episode they said his curry was too spicy and salty and pretty much said it was not fixable. The attitude was "sucks to be you." But they also criticized Grant and Brynn (I think it was those two) and told them how to correct. Charles corrects the curry on his own, which they begrudgingly acknowledge but are still really harsh about the rest of his dish. Then after the tag team they eliminated him but not Jennifer saying she "did enough" to stay in, but what did she do? I saw her complaining a lot, but it's still not clear to me what she contributed to the team; she certainly didn't save any of their three dishes, which were uniformly ass. If they meant she's been a stronger cook all along, then okay, except that didn't save Nina in the previous challenge, so not sure why it should save Jennifer. Their shrimp and pasta dish did make me burst out laughing so at least there's that. I was glad that MD and Sav won mainly because you could see how ungracious everyone else was being. A lot of polite golf clapping and clenched teeth, "I'm so happy for them" fakery. It's not like anyone there is outstanding. Everyone has been pretty inconsistent all season, and overall this seems like it might be the weakest group we've ever seen. Kennedy's eyelashes were a choice.
  10. What was even the point of last night's task? Gordon told them they needed to expand their brands, told them exactly what to do (frozen pizza, better marketing strategy, ready-made bottled coffee), brought in his own experts to actually do all the work, and the contestants did what? Gave each of their designers a few vague instructions (Caroline's was apparently, "I want a lot of pictures of me on the walls") and hang out with three other losing contestants who also contributed nothing to the final task. Though Caroline did have the groundbreaking, "let's make a pepperoni pizza" idea. Last night made me more impressed with Chris as a person, but I don't think much of his product. It's basically a dehydrated drink, which has already existed for decades. The only thing he's added is the gimmick of 3D printing onto a disposable cup, which despite what he says is not eco-friendly. Just because it's plant-based doesn't mean it's not wasteful. There are all the resources needed to source the materials and produce the cup, and disposal is also going to be a problem. It can't be recycled and depending on where it's used, it might not be compostable either. So the cup is probably going into a landfill. As for him saying he could use his technology for spaghetti sauce and coffee -- I mean, instant coffee exists as well as those spaghetti sauce packets in the spice aisle. His other two products last night were bone broth and mouthwash, to which I would respond: bouillon cube and a mint.
  11. I think the team did say they had to grill the chicken because they didn't have enough fryer space for both chicken and french fries, but if that's the case they should have ditched the chicken and gone with something else. If they couldn't do burgers also because the other team called it first, they should have done a hot dog or polish sausage; something that's already cooked and just needs to be heated on the grill. Kids love dogs. Not really sure what the advantage is of a smashburger over forming it into a patty first, but I doubt the kids would have known the difference. And it worked out for them because the other team was so hapless, but I wouldn't have put Grant on the grill; that was the guy who messed up mashed potatoes in the last team challenge. He shouldn't be in charge of the main dish. James should have been on the grill and let Wayne act as the captain since Wayne seemed to be running things anyway.
  12. It took me a few weeks to figure out who Chris reminded me of and then one day it clicked and now I can't unsee it.
  13. Except for air quality, her shop and home are probably okay if in Wailuku. That's on the other side of the island, and from what I've read, tourists are able to shelter in and fly out of Kahului Airport. Previous season's contestants have said that they do get recipes. They're given recipes to study the day before the competition, so they have a general idea what the competition will be. In this case, I would guess they were given the recipes for all of the cakes, which would still be pretty difficult since that's a lot of different, yet similar, things to memorize, and I don't think they can refer to them during the competition, but they're not going in completely blind. That's why their "surprised" reactions when the competition is announced is always so over-the-top.
  14. omg she would not shut up. Even when Gordon was explaining the challenge at the beginning, she had to keep interjecting with a "right" or "okay" or "wow" every time he paused. It's impossible for her to listen to anyone else for more than 5 seconds without having to say something worthless. You could tell she loved being called Miss Perfectpants and thought it was Gordon complimenting/flirting. Smiling through all her faux shock. There is nothing genuine about her at all except when she's being nasty to someone. As soon as the episode started and they said one person would be eliminated before the finals, I figured Ashley. They've been setting up the Lan vs. Caroline showdown since episode 1, and Chris has been a drama-free person so no one has much of an opinion about him. Plus, they probably just wanted to keep a guy in.
  15. I don't get how Kyle's frosting was initially so runny. He said it was buttercream, but that's mostly butter and powdered sugar. Unless he dumped a ton of lemon juice in there, I don't see how it could be that liquid. Also don't get why he wouldn't just start over, which would have been just as fast as dumping in a brick of cream cheese. Joe telling Wayne how brave he was to make a 9-layer cake, as if he had a choice 🙄 I stopped watching this for a few seasons, but didn't they used to do two challenges in every episode? The main challenge (mystery box, team challenge, or specific thing like last night) and then the bottom three would compete in a second challenge and the worst one would go home.
  16. BJ was always pretty egotistical about his surgical skills, which didn't seem warranted either. Both Henry and Potter had said Hawkeye was their best surgeon, and after Charles arrived, everyone was in awe of his surgical skills, just not his personality. BJ was always just the guy who was better than Frank, for whatever that's worth.
  17. Not sure if this is the right thread for this, but Cirie is on this season's Big Brother. Her son Jared (the same son who came out to Survivor for the Loved Ones visit) is playing, and she was the surprise 17th houseguest at the end of the premiere episode. It will be interesting to see if Jared and Cirie let anyone know they're related. There's also another Survivor relative playing, but they haven't revealed it on the show yet and no idea if that Survivor player will also be on BB. Spoiler tagging it for those who want to know: I haven't watched BB before, but I'm going to watch this season for a while to see Cirie. (Seriously doubt I'm lasting the full 100 days though.) In theory, I don't like all the reality show crossovers, but they seem to work on me about half the time, so clearly I'm part of the problem.
  18. And it was so dirty! He made a show of taking it down, but when he pulled out the bun, the big greasy section over his forehead stayed up. So disgusting. It looks like they might have made him wash it before the presentation because it looked a little less gross by then. Lan is the only one who seems even a little bit competent lately, which I wouldn't have predicted back in week one when she tried to put in all the orders for 40 churros at one time.
  19. I'm getting pretty tired of the constant focus on Jennifer, who I otherwise like, Kennedy, who I can't stand, and Kendal, who is likeable enough but seems like he only started cooking a couple weeks before he got on the show. We've never heard a single word from the Asian woman on the West team, and I would swear that I've never seen Kolby before last night. And I'm sorry but a big-ass plate of food, half of which is red cabbage, is not elevated anything.
  20. Bobby is in the hospital and I feel like Joey Tribbiani wanting to put his copy of Little Women in the freezer because he got to the part where Beth is sick. I knew this was coming but didn't remember the timeline and was thinking it was a year or two later.
  21. This one never gets old. Roy: You know what I do when I have trouble with a woman? Antonio: Deflate her?
  22. Not sure if I'm remembering this correctly, but I think Hell's Kitchen was his first US show, and it started a couple of years after American Idol began. When I saw the first promos for HK, I assumed that FOX was trying to capitalize on the popularity of Idol and Simon Cowell in particular, whose whole thing was being (a) British and (b) a dick. I didn't even know who Gordon was back then; I figured he was some random English guy they brought in to be a second Simon. I agree he's much nicer on his UK shows.
  23. I live in Seattle and I have to say the city-wide shots were definitely colorized. All those unnaturally bright blues and greens made me wonder if I needed to adjust my set. Nine months out of the year, we are more gray than technicolor. It looked to me like the pop-up shops were near the Pike Place Market, which is where the original Starbucks is still located. So I feel like a lot of tourists got boned since no matter how much Starbucks reputation has fallen, I would think most tourists would still rather go to Store Zero than to some random pop-up that, as @AZChristian noted, they were probably being herded into by a PA. The customers didn't seem like the normal morning crowd grabbing some coffee before work since some of them said they had been waiting 30 minutes for their order. Despite the prices on the menu, I kind of suspect the orders were free, since I never saw anyone paying and those tip jars were stuffed way fuller than I've seen anywhere.
  24. On Hell's Kitchen, Gordon will scream at any contestant who uses a meat thermometer, but I can't remember it ever coming up on Masterchef, where in general he seems less shouty overall. Even so, I too thought it was strange that they had so many of them last night and were stabbing them in every single pork chop. I don't get why James was even up for elimination. He saved the team by taking over the grill station. Ryan seemed as if he was in over his head, but I thought Brynn should have gone. She tried to talk over the judges when they were tasting the test dish, and when she said they were cooking the pork chops to 150° Gordon specifically told her to pull them at 140° and let them rest. Then when Ryan said 140°, she changed it to 130° for some reason, which is why so many came up raw in the center.
  25. I just started season 4 and everyone is in a pretty good place. Well, not Abby, but I was never crazy about her, so I don't care. Bobby is back on the force and he and Diane are engaged, James and Gina just got married, Andy and Sylvia and Theo are all healthy and happy. Cohen and Kirkendall have paired up, which spares anyone else from being stuck with them (please let me not see any more sex scenes between these two though; it's worse than the murders). Something tragic will probably happen soon. But everything is relatively lighthearted for now. I spent so much of season 2 and 3 in tears, so it was a lot of fun to see the episode where Andy is obsessing about the meaning of Pop! Goes the Weasel, even asking suspects about it. "Does the monkey kill the weasel?" lol
