  1. I agree with them hamming it up a bit with the shifting. These guys all probably have at least one reasonably old car with a manual transmission. Big fan of seeing the old sports cars as well. No power steering, brakes, and those tires were probably 15 or 16s.
  2. Really enjoyed the fog part of the episode. Jeremy running into the folks that were either following the production crew or just got caught up in what they were doing. Hard to believe how hard the old cars were to shift. I've driven some old '50s era trucks and never ground the hell out of the gears. But, I thought the line about how cars today, 60 years later, are only 4 seconds faster was great. If I had to choose, I'd probably pick one of those old racing cars over a new rice rocket. And, what a car collection Sting's drummer has!
  3. That was a train wreck. Thanks but no thanks ABC.
  4. I enjoyed the celebrities they picked this week for the track challenge and the mobile fueling segment was laugh out loud funny. The back and forth with the boyfriend of the woman who had never been in a car when someone did a handbrake turn was good stuff as well.
  5. I'll admit. I bought that Hooters song after I watched this episode. Another vote for the shop teacher being rotf funny this episode.
  6. Did they not show all the teams starting times? I may have missed it but I didn't recall seeing the Ivy League teams score. I wasn't a fan of last week's twist so I wonder if they were trying to cover up all the time they lost in that road block?
  7. This was obviously shot before Hammond's accident. Is it me, or did he look a lot younger or healthier in this episode? The first 3 episodes I thought he looked a lot older than he did the season before.
  8. I haven't had the chance to read everything before this post. I just watched this and here is what I learned : I don't care what people said here before this episode, Chrissie deserved to win. Probably, one of my favorite female players ever. I now know how democrats felt on election night. So tired of easily found idols. This show is biased towards physical challenges. Women can win when they design challenges that favor puzzles. Peaches just likes guys like Colby to win. I am totally sympathetic to Ben and his military service but that should not be why anyone wins this game.
  9. This was one of my favorite episodes. Mostly because of the Jolt Cola reference. Sometime during the mid-to-late 80's when I was in Boy Scouts bringing Jolt on camping trips was a thing. If you've never drank Jolt it was like 10 espresso shots mixed with Coke in a can. I have a very vivid memory of one of my best high school friends sitting around a campfire around 2am begging us all to stay up with him after he drank a 6 pack of Jolt. I loved the Revenge of the Nerds reference too.
  10. I've been watching this show since it started. But, I finally gave up this season when I saw the preview for the episode Sean went to Vegas. I didn't watch this show to see a bunch of gamblers who wanted to invest in a Nome mining operation sitting in a ballroom in a casino. So, I am finally out. I dealt with the contrived storylines where no one was finding gold at "The Bluff" and all the other nonsense as the show showed less mining and more of the not so interesting characters. Bummed this is what this show has become.
  11. Poetic justice would be Cercie having a dwarf baby. After all she and her father said and did to Tyrion she should have dwarf twins.
  12. I'm torn. I love this show for the medieval drama with the Starks, Lanisters, Bravos, etc., but just am not so into the zombie white walker part. That said, I thought this was one of the best episodes of the show. But, I was really uninterested in the zombies pulling dragons out of the ice.
  13. Jon Snow may no nothing, but he's had a tough life.
  14. Did they say where the next season would be? I couldn't stomach watching the after show so I haven't watched it. Filming costs are probably cheaper in Canada, so it would be a little more interesting (to me) if they picked a lake setting in the northern Prairies or maybe Newfoundland or Labrador. Honestly, they need to make an effort to win me back. This season was a big step back for me as a fan of the show. Not sure I'll hang around long if they do another season that gets away from all the reasons I liked this show in the first place.
  15. I agree with those who say this was the worst winner and a terrible season, but I'm not going to knock Jim and Ted for their shelter. Megan from last season had a pretty terrible shelter and she lasted 78 days... Alone. Alan's from S1 was also pretty basic and he won. But, overall just a disappointment. Even the editing sucked. How do you spend 9 episodes covering half a season then skip ahead 30-40 days in the last one?
  16. We live on the WA coast and you'd be surprised what washes up on the beaches. A few years ago a large part of a Japanese dock ended up here after the tsunami. They even found a storage container somewhere on the VI coast with a motorcycle in it that came all the way from Japan. So, if you're willing to scavenge on this show, in this location, there shouldn't be a shortage of bottles, nets, floats, nylon rope, etc. Having a hard time not swearing at my TV this season. Just not a fan of the pairs and after 8 episodes I can't imagine there's more than 2 episodes left. Finding it hard to believe the pair who wins has to stay longer than a month and a half.
  17. This season is going to be so short I'm not sure we'll even get to see the cabin built. Which is the only interesting thing about this season. Disappointing, just a terrible idea to pick this group of people and change the show.
  18. Count me in on being completely skeptical about the Cougar being real. We never saw anything and from personal experience I once had a bear come in my camp one night in Ontario. He was less than 15 feet away. I guarantee you freak out for a second. Last thing you'd think of is to grab a camera. Bet you'd look for a knife, axe or something sharp first.
  19. They're 5 episodes in to the season. I doubt they'll have more than 10 episodes so I'm worried the last half of the season will be anticlimactic. I watch Naked and Afraid and one of my peeves on that show is that they skip over 5-7 days sometimes. They're something like 9 days and 5 episodes into this season and have lost half the teams. I don't think this will go long or they'll do what N&A does.
  20. I'm over the hiking. The camera work is dizzying and I feel like I'm watching the show through foggy goggles. Although I'm glad they made it hard if this is the direction the show wanted to go for this season, it shouldn't be an easy thing for them to do. Did the brother really think he could throw a stick and kill a grouse? That was ridiculous. RIP GoPro. IMO it's also taking away some of the luster of the show hearing people constantly saying how they can't wait until their partner shows up. I like some of the "team" aspects of this season but everytime I hear that it reminds me of how much I liked the other seasons better than this one. I did appreciate the one brother mentioning that people used to have to do what they're doing as a lifestyle a century or more ago. When you see someone struggling to live like this you respect people like Jim Bridger and other early explorers/trappers/voyagers more.
  21. His comment about he was the only person to be on N&A to ever kill a big game animal has been bugging me since I heard him say it. Maybe he meant XL but in the Louisiana N&A someone snared a deer and I remember seeing another couple episodes where people had snared a pig (which she ultimately didn't kill) and a caiman. Matt didn't do himself any favors in the after show, up until then I thought he was an ok guy but damn the ego....
  22. I could drop my wife 10 miles off, who sits in a lawn chair while I set up a car camp and watches, in remote Vancouver island and tell her to wrap herself in a blue tarp and we still would have lasted longer than these two from IL. Embarrassing.
  23. Couldn't they show it earlier than 10pm? Ugh.
  24. I've read all this discussion and quite honestly I'm just totally disappointed by how this season ended. I get that whoever is in the final 3 any of them probably deserve to win, but this season was full of teams who never really seemed to grasp that this was a race. Everyone seemed to help Brooke make that ladle, seriously in that episode every team seemed to try to do anything to help her. Now they lost to her and Scott. If this is the direction the show goes (e.g., gimmicky teams) I'm not going to be one of those people who says I won't watch anymore but it just won't be the same to me. It's been a while since I was annoyed as much about an outcome of this show.
  25. If the ants are that bad they could always spread coals around the area they are sleeping in. This is the part of this and the regular show I have the biggest problem with. There are some common sense things these people could do like surrounding their camp with coals or sleeping off the ground to keep the ants away or after a week of being bitten alive by mosquitoes they don't cover themselves with mud.
