  1. I don't understand why Carol Burnett is trying to kill Maxine, TBH.  There is too much back story missing.  And why did Carol reject Rosenhips?  They didn't show us.

Are we supposed to think that Doug cares for Maxine?  He doesn't really seem to like her.

  2. I liked the episode, but come on, they are down to the wire on the execution--don't you think even the most hardline governor would have granted a stay while they tracked down the crazy murderer who was suddenly running around the country?  But no problem, time will stretch out so in less than one minute they can find the missing DNA and test it.  Also, they should have at least paused the execution because they weren't carrying it out properly.  It's a good way to make an anti death penalty argument on TV, but it was ridiculous.

They never made the connection of the amputee fetish out loud to the group.  Only for us viewers.

At least Remy got to hook up with the hot lawyer.

  3. I called surrogate as soon as they found the delivery boy. Law and Order keeps having surrogate plots too. Too many foot chases.

I thought the infiltration of the compound was handled poorly. Too few agents and poorly equipped.

I love beets. I buy plain canned beet slices and pickle them along with hard boiled eggs to put on salads. I've seen several recipes for roast beet salads that look good. I've tried roasting fresh beets in the past with mixed results. Both Ina and ATK say to peel fresh beets before roasting. I'm thinking wearing disposable gloves while peeling will keep me from staining my hands. Putting parchment paper on a cutting board should keep from staining the board (maybe?) Any tips?

Absolutely use the disposable gloves. I learned it in a cooking class. (Facepalm emoji.). I use a white vinyl board and it doesn’t stain permanently. I can use a little comet if necessary.

I chop raw beets for my favorite borscht recipe.

Quick reviews of the shows I saw a couple of weeks ago:

Uncle Vanya - I didn't hate it.  I have no background in Chekov (oddly enough since I have a degree in theatre), so I don't know the play at all.  I thought Alison Pill was the standout.  Mia Katigbak was also very good.  Steve Carell, in his Broadway debut, was good, as was the rest of the cast...other than Anika Noni Rose.  She was just strange.  The stagecraft was great.  We saw the 2nd preview, so I think the stagehands were still figuring out how quickly they had to do the intermission thing.  Glad I went.  Don't know if I'd see it again.

Mia Katigbak!  I went to college with her!  We were good friends for the first couple of years but we drifted apart.  She was a music major.  Those of us with last names beginning in K were put together during freshman orientation.

  6. I've just recalled that my high school had early color-blind casting.  A young Black woman played Adelaide.  This was a NYC high school with a big mix of races and ethnic groups.

  7. Thanks for all these thoughts on musicals.  You all have much greater knowledge of the stage musicals than I do.  @RinaldoI'm not sure of what you're referencing regarding high school performances of Guys and Dolls, because my high school's performance took place in 1971 LOL.

I was lucky enough to see the original off-Broadway performance of Grease in 1972.

Tell me if you want me to be more specific, but for now I'll just say that the movie is sort of Bridget and Mark's journey to get through their insecurities).

There is also a Pride and Prejudice's egg easter if you're a fan of Mr Darcy/Colin Firth. I don't know if it's mentionned in the books because I have not read them, but I found that really funny.

What is the Easter Egg?  Because he’s called Mark Fitzwilliam Darcy at the end?  I watched just now without paying close attention.

  9. I’m trying to wade through The Pleasure of his Company out of curiosity, but it’s just as plodding as reported.  (It’s on YouTube FYI.). It seems to be a poor man’s High Society.   I suppose I’d rather watch it than Bugsy Malone, however.

ETA:  the fight between Debbie and Tab over pretentious restaurant talk is pretty funny.
