  1. The theme of this show has almost always been that the stronger-minded defeat the weaker-minded. If that continues, those relgious crazies will not stand a chance. I will very much be interested to see how the Boss Sparrow reacts when he is imprisoned and tortured. It will be interesting to see if he can call upon his higher power to save him from screaming and begging and promising to do anything if they will just stop torturing him. After all, Turnabout is fair play. (Note: IMO, The decision to have two forums - "Book Talk" and "No Book Talk" was an excellent decision!)
  2. I was hoping someone would find a good way to post this. I'm guessing there must be some kind of hidden "surprise" in this story line. It would take her years (or at least an incredibly long time) to develop all those other senses. Surely this story line can't go on that long. Can it? Realism has never been a big feature of this show. But it's not good when the audience laughs at the show. Shame. Shame. (on the show runners)
  3. Talk about revenge - so far in this show, it seems to be a common theme the strong survive and kill off the weak. But, as between Dorne or Cersei and Jamie, is it clear who is stronger? It would be great to see someone avenge the murder of Myrcella and to see that horrible woman murdered in a way that would serve her right (meaning excruciatingly painful). But, it's just not clear which woman is stronger. Is it Cersei? Or is it Elaria Sand? Anybody have an idea? The only one thing that does seem very clear now is that the women are taking over and they are now the stronger characters by far. Most all the men are wimps. The winner of the Game of Thrones is almost certainly going to be a woman. (JMHO ... of course) Cersei or Elaria or Dany or Sansa or Arya or Brienne or Margaery? Doggone it! Who am I forgetting?
  4. I'm new to this forum and fairly amazed at some of the great posts in this thread. So many people here show such great insights. I've watched the episode once and feel I need to watch it at least once or twice more before making any detailed posts. But as for now, the word that comes to mind is "uneven". Some of the scenes were great (such as Ramsey's, "Feed her to the dogs." Who else would ever get to make such a statement? But a lot of the scenes felt unnecessary and very disappointing (such as Arya's scene and a few others). I've never enjoyed Danerys' storyline once they poured that bucket of gold over her brother's head. It has all been pretty disappointing ever since then.
  5. Wouldn't that be amazing? Even if it were just for an April Fool's episode? Especially if this phoney Clarke would convince them all that he and Martha were really having an affair and he would sue the FBI if they ever revealed that info to anyone in such a way that his wife would sue him for damages. Can you imagine the FBI writing him an apology letter? "We are so very sorry that we mistakenly intruded on your private life and we promise never to do that again. The FBI does not usually "feel" anything but in this case, we truly do feel very, very sorry."
  6. If you were Martha and you had left the house with Gabriel and managed to get away without meeting Clark who was on his way back ... Where would you go and what would you do when you got there? If I was Martha, I would think the choices would be: 1) Spend the rest of my life in an American prison. 2) Spend the rest of my life living in Moscow as a free Russian citizen. 3) Suicide But maybe if I asked for a lawyer, I might be able to negotiate a good deal by promising to co-operate with the FBI and give them all the info I could (not sure that I would ever tell them what Clark really looks like though). But what about you? What possible plan could Martha have in mind? She can't use any credit cards. She can't travel out of the city. What in the world could she possibly try to do? What would you do? One other important issue seems to be, will Clark meet up with her on his way back to the house? If he doesn't find her and no other KBG agents can find her, wouldn't that be almost fatal to the show? Could Phillip & Elizabeth ever avoid getting arrested if the FBI get their hands on Martha before the KGB does? Just a guess, but my feeling is that Clark just had to find Martha on his way back to the house and talk her into going back with him. There is hardly any other alternative except ... OMG! I hate to say this. But if Martha is not willing to go back to the house with Phillip, will he have to kill her?
  7. That's very interesting. The show runners could devise an episode in which Henry is thrown in between his parents and the FBI in some kind of confrontation and Henry is forced to pick a side. Imagine the quizzical look on his face after Stan tells Henry to call 911 (or something like that). Henry would be holding the phone up and ask, "Mom? Dad? Mr. Beeman?" Then ... the end of episode credits roll and it's a cliff hanger ... at least until the next episode. Maybe even the next season? After all, they did something similar with Paige at the end of Season 3. The last scene of the last episode in Season 3 shows Paige on the phone and she is just about to tell Pastor Tim that her parents are Russian spies (or something similar) and then ... the episode ends and we are left waiting for the next season to find out what happens as a result. This show just keeps on getting better and better all the time.
  8. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh No! I thought I was posting a new topic about Henry and what his role is. But I guess there was already a thread about that. I'm very surprised and impressed the software for this board seems to have figured out that my new thread should have actually been a post to an existing thread. Oh well, I will leave things as they are and maybe someone can explain how this happened? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What is going on with Henry? I don't know how many of you may have noticed this, but Henry seems to look at least two or three years older this season than he did just last season and who knows what next season may bring? He certainly seems to be shooting up into young manhood and doing that very quickly. This show has spent a huge amount of time dealing with Paige and her issues. But so far, they seem to have presented Henry as a young boy with no friends of his own (unless you can consider Stan to be his friend) and no apparent interests of his own (except for Mrs. Beeman). That is pretty strange in itself. But I would guess we may see some future interaction between Henry and Stan that may cause Stan to suspect P & E and although Paige's mind may be strong enough to resist Stan's probing, Henry is probably a much softer target. The only interests Henry seems to have are looking at pictures of Mrs. Beeman and playing computer games and board games. But Henry should have outgrown those interests (except maybe for Mrs. Beeman) long ago. He is past due some development. Isn't he? It seems to me this show really has to do something more with Henry. They can't just let him sit around the house and play with his computer forever. I don't know why they've never given him any friends. But he really ought to have one or two guy friends his own age or a girl friend his own age so that he can explore the "young male" culture as it existed in the mid 1980s. It's just getting to be too strange. I don't think any young boy would act the way he does unless he was hiding something. Paige may well never say anything to Henry about her parents being spies. But if Henry doesn't develop some interests of his own pretty soon, I would guess he would do something - almost anything - to escape the boredom of his current routine - maybe even snooping on his parents? If not, what kind of adventures do you think the show runners may send Henry's way? And when will that likely happen? Do you think we can go all the way through Season 5 with no substantial development in his character? If so, we are very likely to wake up one day and find Henry has run away from home and eloped - maybe even with Matthew? OK. that was just a silly joke. But, surely they can't go an entire new season with Henry just sitting around with the computer? What do you think may happen with Henry next season? Surely something has to happen. Don't you think?
  9. It always gnawed at me that Martha would accept that Clark was not who he said he was but never pushed him into telling her any of the details. She never asked him who he worked for. She never asked him to tell her where the info was going or what it was being used for. It could have been used for almost anything - including doing great harm to her country. A huge tragedy in the making. At the very least, it seems to me, that she would really need to know more. Why didn't she press Clark for the details? If there was ever any kind of internal investigation in the FBI office (which, of course, there was), Martha would have been able to protect herself far better if she knew where the info went. Don't you think? I never understood why she would be willing to just leave things as they were. Was it some kind of bizarre psychological game? One of the FBI agents (either Aderholt or Beeman) summed up her psychological state and seemed to me to be eerily correct. She lived her entire life desperately seeking love and when she thought she had found it (even if it wasn't honest and even if she knew it wasn't honest), she was willing to live a lie rather than risk losing that love. It just seems so dangerous and her thinking seems so flawed and so tragic. I just never understood. Martha has now painted herself into this corner and it just doesn't seem like she has any reasonable escape. My guess is that when she realizes that she must accept the fact that she will never see Clark again, the only answer for her will be suicide. So tragic. So very tragic! Some people make fun of Martha. They even refer to some of the episodes as "Poor Martha" episodes. Heartless? Well, yes. But it also seems accurate to me. Thing is, I know some people who have behaved like Martha and I bet you do too. Don't you?
  10. Just a thought, but if you thought Martha was cracking at that time, just wait until she finds out that she will never be seeing Clark again. I would guess that if that happens, we will be in store for the Mother of all cracks. My guess is that Alison Wright is fully capable of delivering a knock out performance as a woman who loses her mind in the space of about ten seconds. It will be very interesting to see if Phillip will let her hold on to her gun while she learns that truth. If so, it could become one of the most memorable scenes from the entire show. I never really appreciated Alison Wright. But as of late, she has displayed some amazing ... superb ... acting skills. I'm hoping we may well see her hit the ball right out of the park when Martha learns that she and Clark have to split up forever. If I was the show runner, I'd see this as one of the biggest opportunities of my career to produce some fabulous TV. I'm so excited!
  11. Good point. This has been nagging at me ever since I saw the episode. But I just didn't know what to say about it. It was pretty ridiculous. How in the world does it make any sense to say, "I just didn't know what else to do ..." And then follow up by getting naked or any other bizarre or idiotic thing to do. I just wish I had made that point. Well done!
  12. Earlier, I said that I found some excellent observations in this thread. I would like to now explain just what they were. They came from Umbellina who noted that Gabriel should and would have worn some kind of disguise when he entered the house. It seemed like a big problem to me that Gabriel would give Phillip flack over showing Martha what he really looked like while at the same time he failed to wear a disguise. Also, the issue of taking proper care not to let Martha just leave the house. It was more than just failing to leave a note. It would have been fairly easy to have handled that situation much better than they did. They really did make a mess of that. Shameful! Note: I edited this post to change the name "Stan" to "Phillip". I had originally mistakenly used the name "Stan" as in ... "It seemed like a big problem to me that Gabriel would give Stan flack ... " But, I changed it to "Phillip" because using "Stan" was an error.
  13. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sorry. I have not yet figured out how to quote a previous post in this forum. I'll try to learn how ASAP. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well ... anything is possible. But I'd be surprised if anything like this were to happen because .... When I ask myself just where could the story go from there? ...... or ...... What kind of "legs" would this development have? ... My conclusion has to be there is precious little that could develop from such an event. Suppose Oleg were to arrange somehow (prob with Stan's help) for his father to come to the USA, how much could the USA benefit from a Minsiter of Transportation? If he were in charge of weapons or the army or navy or airforce or anything to do with intelligence, then ... maybe. But, it seems to me the USA has little to gain from the USSR's system of transportation. It's way behind the USA's system. The fact that he was unable to do anything to help Oleg save Nina is a strong clue as to his value to the USSR. His value would seem to be very little. I doubt he would have much value. However, in order for me to make a good argument, I really should be able to offer you some kind of explanation as to what was going on with that phone call. Why would they show us that? For that, I just have no explanation. But ... by the same token, remember Henry sitting at his computer and talking with his mother and sister? What was the significance of their conversation? Why would the show bother to include that? It seemed very worthless to me. Seems to me there was just no reason for including that conversation in the show. I just can't give you any explanation for that. So ... what? Could it be an intentional red herring? I have no idea. It is all just very strange and worthless. What can be said about that? No value. No explanation. However, please remember that if any one member of a family does defect, they are leaving the other family members in a fair bit of trouble. Oleg's family would be in trouble if one or more of them defected. The Jennings would be in a lot of trouble if any one or more members were to go to Stan and the FBI and blab what they know. All of that just seems highly unlikely to me. What do you think?
  14. Hello. This is my first post in this forum. This episode is one of the very best episodes I've ever seen for any TV show. I will have more to say about it later. But before posting much more, I'd like to watch it again. At this time, I'd like to say that IMO, you people are incredibly lucky to have this forum. I don't know if you appreciate just how terrible most other forums and discussions of this show are. But this forum seems to be head and shoulders above most any other forums - all put together. I've seen some truly amazing insights just in this thread and I hope that I will be able to make some suitable contributions in the future. I have been participating in two other forums - mostly about this show as well as Fargo, Better Call Saul and Game of Thrones. I think we are all extremely fortunate to be living in a time when these four shows are being broadcast because IMO, they quite possibly number among the finest TV shows ever produced. I can't believe the level of drama and the expectation of things to come have risen so high when we have only seen six of the ten episodes this season. I'm guessing we're about to see a whole lot of wonderful drama in the remaining four episodes. Many people here have referenced problems with the level of reality of this show and errors made regarding believability of the events. But I'd rather sacrifice a little believability any day in favor of incresased drama and suspense. I think the only other thing I want to say at this time is just how wonderfully this show has developed in the current season. I only hope we will see more seasons and more shows being produced by these show runners. This show is on the same level as Game of Thrones and yet ... i seems to me it has been produced with only a very tiny fraction of the budget spent on Game of Thrones. That seems like an important lesson. You don't have to spend a fortune to produce wonderful TV shows. It's not all about special effects and locations and numbers of actors. IMO, it has a lot more to do with story and the feelings generated by the story.
