  9. Considering last week they hit a series low, it's good the ratings didn't slide more. I have a feeling a lot of folks are tired of the election storyline.

  11. I was mostly fine with this epi although I could do without seeing Mamie Gummer and Denis O'Hare again, thank you very much. I don't mind one guest with a foible but two at the same trial is cringe inducing. I'm glad that Diane and Kurt can behave like adults. Love those two together. Oh, look blink and you'd have missed her, Kalinda saves the day. I didn't really notice Goode's accent but I noticed AP's accent slip. Don't know how I feel about Johnny and Alicia but JM has said that Alicia needs some sex. Loved Marissa reading Johnny and frustrating her father. I'm way over Canning and the fact that Alicia almost always seems to get bamboozled by the guy. I hope Prady wins the election.
  12. That makes no sense actually as JM had her own Emmy before AP. That the Kalinda character was popular, I could maybe see that causing JM to bristle but not necessarily the Emmy. At the PaleyFest panel a couple weeks ago (link to whole thing in the media thread) she said Alicia should dump Peter. I also agree about bad writing, JM/AP stuff aside. The past couple of seasons have been all over the board and I would hope that for it's supposedly final season coming up, they'd get their ducks in a row.

  14. As for frequent guest stars, Mike Colter (Bishop) and Carrie Preston (Tascioni) have both been cast in upcoming shows. So their availability for say, the final season may not be guaranteed. I think most of us who watched and followed the show pretty much came to this conclusion from the start. Yes, a reasonable conclusion for some. She's the titular star even if TPTB try and sell this as an ensemble, it's JM's show so-to-speak. Everyone else is part of an ensemble and except with perhaps attributes/nuances they add to their characters, they are on a lower rung than JM. Which isn't to say she has so much power as to be able to dictate everything going on with the show. Sometimes the network will put their two cents in (the Kings have said the network would prefer it if the show had a broader appeal) and well we see how well that worked for season two of Sleepy Hollow...

  17. From TV Line's Matt's Inside Line:
  18. Oh, yes. I'm old enough to have heard about the drama behind-the-scenes on I Love Lucy. According to Tallulah Bankhead who was one of the last guest stars towards the end of the show's run, she said the tension was so thick on that set you could cut it with a knife. And Vivian Vance and Lucille Ball did go on to star in The Lucy Show until Vance's death. There have been shenanigans on shows forever. Don't forget that in addition to Moonlighting, that Cybill Shepard didn't love the attention that Christine Baranski got on the Cybill show. As has been said, if it's something you were paying attention to, the Alicia/Kalinda not sharing scenes on screen is noticeable regardless of the "you slept with my husband" thing since we've all worked with (some people anyway) we'd just as soon push down a flight of stairs (or maybe that's just me) but you still interact because you have to. And as for the Alicia going in a different path from the legal stuff, sure, I could get behind that. But frankly, I think TPTB have bungled it. Alicia had an initial reason for running for SA but now exactly what is her reason? It also hasn't helped that it seems as though the Kings have just thrown stuff at the wall to see what would stick and gone with that instead of made it cohesive. Which brings us to their last few interviews where they have addressed this themselves when asked about it (implying that other people have noticed the chaos as well) and said, oh, all the confusion is intentional. Okay. Fine. It's intentional. Fix it. Although claiming something was intentional is par for the course with them. Every time someone has asked them about why this or that seems so messy, they go into their, "Oh, that's the way we planned it," mode and "the audience just doesn't get it." Once maybe, but this seems to happen frequently with them.
  19. She's got no friends. Heck, she needs to get out her frustrations some how...
  20. I actually like the idea of Kalinda with a kid. I doubt Matt C is going anywhere either. He has said regarding the Kalinda exit that he has no idea as far as how they resolve their relationship how it works out. He said that he'd seen scripts for epi 21 and 22 and nothing so far. Like I said ealier, right now, they need to tie up their loose plot ends by the time this season is over (the SA race in particular). Their last season shouldn't be about trying to sort out the nonsense from this season.

  22. It's possible that the popularity of the Kalinda/Alicia friendship caught TPTB off guard. So when they decided to pull the trigger they may not have taken into account how JM would feel about trying to continue that afterwards. Either way, it was probably a lost opportunity. Here you had two women who didn't exactly have friends outside of their work. It would have been nice to see if the relationship could have grown to give another dynamic to the show. But coulda, woulda, shoulda... Right now, I just want a decent send-off for Archie though I'm not holding my breath. The Kings have said killing her off wouldn't necessarily be in play especially after Will (because they've been asked this) and most folks seem like they'll be pissed if that's they way they do go. They've also said they didn't have the luxury of surprising the audience due to the announcement of her departure being made so early. I wouldn't be surprised if they did pull that though. When all is said and done. I hope that at the end of this season, they've straightened out their, according to them, intentional confusion of storylines. Going into the final season next Fall, Alicia and company should be moving towards a definitive endgame.
  23. To think all this started up again because of Robert King making this statement at Paleyfest: Which was the point for a lot of us. Kalinda and Alicia have been separated this long, why try to resolve anything with the two of them now that Archie is leaving? Just leave it alone. The Kings can talk about all of their "intentional" confusion for this season and whatever else they've got going on with this show but just don't expect the audience at large to buy it.
  24. One theory spun as to why the Kalinda character may have been sidelined (and again this is just a theory) was that the character was very popular and maybe JM didn't like that (but whatever). As was pointed out, a lot of us work and have people we don't like or get along with but we still interact with those people because you know, that's life and we're adults. As for the development of the Kalinda character, yes, TPTB dropped the ball but I'm used to that happening on pretty much every show. As for the Alicia/Kalinda thing and Alicia's seeming obsession with the fact that Kalinda slept with Peter. This is where I think the show tried to retcon. When the show first started and Alicia met Kalinda one of the first things she (jokingly) asks her, is if she slept with her husband and Kalinda said no. Fast forward a couple of seasons and it comes out that Kalinda had slept with Peter and it having to do something with her having changed her identity from Leela to Kalinda (although I don't think Alicia knew this). Alicia basically looked at this as a betrayal on both their parts and was angry because as she told Peter, Kalinda was her friend (of course, it happened before she ever met Kalinda but the fact that Kalinda had lied about it was it). As for the husband story-line. Yes, that was bad. What started out as promising just went from bad to worse. For me, knowing Adrian Pasdar was the voice on the phone gave me some hope the storyline might be interesting but he had prior engagements and another actor was cast. For a lot of us, this casting was disappointing especially since most of us couldn't see why she'd be afraid of him and didn't just squash him like the bug he was. The Kings got so much grief they hurriedly scrapped the storyline leaving dangling threads (Cary's beating for one). They went on record as saying they made mistakes with the storyline (JM said it was a bad storyline as well) although they also said the audience just didn't get what they were trying to do. But the damage had been done and Kalinda's character has never recovered in addition to, as others have pointed out, TPTB just have never seemed to know what to do with her.
