  1. From the episode thread:

It is not finger pointing to state what is a fact. It is constantly stated that Derek has never gotten a 70 year old or some very difficult reality star and the fact is neither has Mark or Val. That is the simple truth and the fact of the matter is the reason it is ignored with them is simply because they haven't won as much as he has. As for bringing up Amber and Ricky Lake and Lil' Kim, well yes they did provide challenges. All challenges aren't necessarily age.

As talented as Amber was, there were things she was hampered by because of her size as was Ricki. Also, Lil' Kim's reputation and the perception people had of her was a challenge on a show that requires people to like you enough to vote for you. Michael Waltrip this season is proof positive of how important a big voting base is.

So yes, it is a challenge for a Pro to work with a celebrity who despite their abilities may not be liked by the viewers and deliver routines that are good and fun enough that it gets some people who weren't initially fans to like and vote for her. And for the record, in my opinion Nicole was a challenge too. Yes she was a phenomenal dancer but she was also pretentious, self important idiot half the time.

So just to be clear, apparently Amy was in no way a challenge for Derek simply because she wasn't 70 and was an Olympian? Interesting...someone should have told Lolo Jones and Ali that apparently being an Olympian automatically makes you a good dancer. Amy was not a challenge for Derek - Amy who did not have legs was not a challenge because well, she wasn't old and she was an Olympian. Yeah I think this is officially the point where I realize this is just a no win discussion.

And this is exactly why I wanted Derek to take a break from this show because of the frankly at this point deja vu comments. I bet if Tony had gotten Amy I would have read ad nauseum about how he always gets those difficult challenges and Derek never gets them. But because she did amazing and turned out to have some ability, suddenly it doesn't matter that she had two prosphetic legs because she was an Olympian. Sure, it was no challenge to every week figure out which legs could work with the dance, figure out how to get her to move her hips and upper body to achieve movement that typically was achieved through the ankles, heels and feet. Yes none of that was a challenge because apparently only having a celebrity of the senior citizen variety counts as a challenge.

Nevermind that what Derek did with Amy, no other Pro has accomplished ever on the show other than Jonathan who danced with Heather Mills who had one prosphetic leg. But yes, that does not count because she wasn't 70. Thing is, I have a feeling even if Derek is given a much older woman, unless she is pretty much as hopeless as Michael there will still be complaints. If she does well and gets good scores, the same cries will start up again - "she's being overscored because of course, she's with Derek; she's not actually dancing; well she was a dancer 50 years ago so it's not like she didn't have some skills."

Mark and Val haven't had difficult reality stars? how about difficult "personalities" that aren't even stars in Bristol Palin and Elisabetta Cannalis? Derek has never had to deal with one of those types. the closest comparison I would think would be Joanna Krupa, but if she gave him a hard time, they sure didn't show it.

Amber was a HUGE fanbase ringer, regardless of her size. and her size didn't hinder her much.

I think you have to compare stars given on a certain season. Derek had ricki season 13, and on paper, no she wasn't great. in actuality she wasn't great but he masked that and they still got good scores and 3rd place. but compare her to the other female stars of that season. Kristin cavalarri? no fanbase, known as horrid person (even though she didn't display that on dwts), getting nowhere. not even marks fanbase could save her. hope solo? probably they thought she would be good, but also about her bad attitude. Elisabetta? we've covered her. chynna Phillips? nostalgia factor, but not much. Nancy grace? yeah, right.

so, out of those celebs, ricki was probably tops when you think of who will have a good personality, be able to move, etc.

I do think Amy was a challenge for Derek. I agree there. especially w Meryl and Danica and Candace in the cast. season 18 is the only season I agree that Derek wasn't handed one of the top picks. even though I'm pretty sure the producers counted her inspirational story as a pretty big perk.

I think Derek is a sensational dancer, and a brilliant choreographer. there's no denying that. but I'm tired of him. if the same team won the Super Bowl or the World Series all the time i'd get tired of them, too. Derek has never finished lower than 6th, I think, and that was way back in season 6. he's nearly always in the finale. it's boring. extremely boring. I'd say the same of any of the pros if they were there that much. I'm so happy that Cheryl is likely done with the show. it's time, it's been almost ten years. I'm glad Maks is gone. let some new blood take over. look at what a breath of fresh air Witney is.

Derek keeps saying that he wants bigger things. his hardcore fans keep screaming that he's a star, a genius, the best there is. then why won't he leave a cheesy little dance show? go get his big things and leave dwts alone.

  2. me too radishcake!

I don't think andi could be on, even if josh is, because don't we have the complete female side spoiled? I don't know much about either of them, but I admit to being slightly curious about josh, since I'm a big SEC fan and familiar with his brother from watching him play at UGA

  3. I really hope the Sadie Robertson rumor mentioned above doesn't come to fruition. She's only 17, and that's almost always an issue on the show when the contestant is a female. Imagine all the manufactured drama of, "What will she wear?!?" and, " Who will be 'safe' enough to be her partner without it seeming inappropriate?!?" Add to that the fact that they will obviously want to play up the conservative angle as her storyline (think Candace's wardrobe meetings on steroids and with the whole Robertson clan chiming in with their "wholesome hillbilly" schtick), and it just seems like a horrible idea to me.

I'm not excited about any of the other rumors either. The only 2 I've even heard of are Antonio and Lolo. But there are always surprises, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I'm happy Sharna is going to be on at least.

I agree with you regarding Sadie. I'm a conservative, but I very strongly dislike the Duck Dynasty folks and their special brand of stupid. I worry that her fanbase could be similar to Bristol. and if she gets Derek (which I could see happening) that makes it that much worse. add in his fanbase and she could make the finals even if she falls every single week.

  4. DWTS Gossip just tweeted that Witney and Jonathan Bennett are following each other, and that he's also following some other pros. he also has a tweet posted about taking great adventures, and apparently he's close friends with Danika McKellar.

I had to google him--Aaron Samuels from Mean Girls. I'm not sure of anything else he's done.

  5. I'm really excited about Janel Parrish. I'm a big PLL fan.

TMZ is reporting on Lolo Jones and Casey K...(not gonna attempt her last name) from American ninja Warrior. I could get behind mighty Casey, as she's known. I like her.

and apparently there's a 13th pro? I've seen rumors of Sharna, and also of Sasha if Casey is on. she's super tiny.

  6. whoa! I'm rewatching season 1, and I'm on I think episode 6. it's called the fourth sister. the girl conjures a demon or something from mirrored surfaces. I probably haven't seen this one since it's original airing, because I didn't really care for it. anyway, the girls's aunt was just in a scene, and guess who it was! Elise! as in phoebe's boss at the bay mirror. completely took me by surprise.

ps- it's really hilarious seeing Prue and Andy browse VHS tapes to rent and Phoebe and Piper battle over Leo. :)

  7. has anyone else heard about Holly and Shannen's reality show? it will be on Great American Country early 2015, and it's called Off the Map with Shannen and Holly. they are driving an RV through the southeast and participating in local events. you can even go to the GAC website and vote on what they will do. they've already taken part in a tomato fight in Kentucky and I think they're in Tennessee now. they'll be coming through Alabama, which is where I live. I would love it so much if they came close to my town and I could see them!!

  8. absolutely, without a doubt, Mark. he is so patient with his partners, and he's extraordinarily creative. his height would also match well with mine.

my second choice would be Val, as he is all of the above also (think I would mesh better with Mark, though)

if I'm choosing a same sex partner I go with Emma. or Chelsie Hightower.

  9. I LOVED Chris. part of it was that I thought the actor was pretty hot, part that I loved Piper so much and he was her son, and part because I always enjoyed the time travel stuff, whether it was the sisters or one of their family members coming/going.

If I'm remembering correctly, the breakup in season 6 was so Leo could become an elder. which led to the destruction of Gideon, and ultimately of the avatars, so he was where he needed to be.

Billie and christy. ugh. I could put up with Billie ok because I like kaley Cuoco, but the Christy actress and character was horrible.

Paige did have bad boyfriends lol. Richard especially was annoying.

there was a seer. how do I even spell that word? I think she was mostly in season 4, and was vanquished when she tried to interfere with the phoebe/cole demon child. she reappeared during season 5 in centennial charmed, because that episode centered around Cole's alternate reality. I think there was actually an Oracle as well in season 4, a completely different character? she was supposed to see the future for the Source I think.

the magic school stuff got on my nerves some, too. the whole "magical community" and all the beings that came with it. its why i prefer the first three seasons, before it became as cliche.

zankou, I think, was supposed to be end game. I could swear I remember reading an article way back when that said the show runners expected season 7 to be it, but they received an unexpected and sort of last minute renewal for season 8. I was happy, because even though phoebe wasn't my favorite, I was glad she got her happy ending with coop. girl had it rough in the romance department. I watched the 3rd season Halloween epi (all Halliwell's Eve, maybe?) just last weekend, where the sisters go back to deliver baby Melinda in the 1600s. phoebe does some thing where she drops an apple core into the water and it is supposed to unfurl into the first initial of her true love. it was C, and she whispered "Cole". except no, it really ended up being Coop. I thought, nice continuation, show! I'd never picked up on that before.

  10. it's interesting how people see things differently. I always thought Prue was very caring toward her sisters. a little over-protective, perhaps. now, the actress, on the other hand, may have been a different story. i was really pissed that Sd wouldnt allow her likeness in any of the seasons going forward, especially in the series finale. when senior Piper and Leo were walking up the stairs, there seemed to be a giant hole because there was no picture of Prue. even with all that, i still thought the character was done well.

It took me a long time to warm up to Paige. I think it may be that I wasn't a huge fan of Rose McGowan, because I feel her voice sounds extraordinarily whiny all the time. eventually though, I was able to separate the actress from the character, and could see how Paige caused Piper and Phoebe to really grow and step out of Prue's shadow. the character growth for Piper especially I thought was phenomenal.

I always thought the show lost kind of an organic feel after season 3, and some of the stuff they did in the later seasons was a tad more cliche...leprechauns, wood nymphs, some of those things. not to say I didn't enjoy those seasons, because I did, very much, and some of the season 5 stuff is, as ive said before, my favorite. I really liked season 6 as well, because of Chris. I hated the piper/Leo separation, but it had to be done to get the characters to where they needed to be.

I also thought piper should have had a daughter instead of a son in season 5! especially after we see Melinda in season 2. but of course, their future had changed a lot already.

  11. I love that there is a Charmed topic! it is my all time fave TV show.

fave season: 2, followed by 5.

fave episode: Morality Bites (season 2), followed by Centennial Charmed (season 5)

least fave season: 4. I loved Prue and was upset when she left. plus the season was too Phoebe/Cole centric, and right after season 3 which was also heavy on those two.

piper was always my favorite sister.

  12. I wish someone from Boy Meets World would do the show! And it would be great timing, as Girl Meets World is about to start up. Maybe Rider Strong or Will...the one who played Eric, I can't remember his last name. My preference would be Matthew Lawrence, but he dated Cheryl and I don't think they ended on a good note. So that's probably a no. lol

Love the idea of a baseball player, too. If die if they could get one of the most well known Braves players. Chipper Jones, John Smoltz, Greg Maddox, or Tom Glavin. Any one of them would have my votes!!

  13. Camilla put something on twitter about being with her family and properly mourning her father. I am NOT a Camilla fan. Not even close, and I'm glad she's not on the show anymore. But, I knew the crying and emotion was weird last night. That is so not how Camilla behaves. I don't think Theresa beat her at all. Camilla gave up. You saw her just let go and roll over. There was something else going on, and it apparently had to do with her dad. So Theresa, you did not beat one of the stronger competitors. You were handed that win, sweetheart.

Laurel killed me with that "execution list". It was mean, but it was smart. I'm a fan of Laurel's. I've loved her ever since she put Paula Dumbnuts in her place on Rivals. She is seriously turning me off with this Jordan relationship, though. He's such a nasty piece of work. I can't stand Johnny Bananas, but I hope he just vaporizes Jordan in whatever elimination they do. Jordan is so damn cocky. Flipping over all the cards til he gets the kill card beause he wants to take on Bananas? I really can't wait to see that play out. And it makes me hate Jordan even more because he is making me root for Johnny Bananas!! Ugh.

  14. I was glad Laurel won, but I did feel bad for Jasmine, too. Poor thing. Everybody knew she was done as soon as se pulled the kill card. I was really hoping for Camilla to pull it.

Johnny and Jordan are two evils I just can't choose between. There is no "lesser evil" between the two of them for me.

Mannnn what an underhanded, sneaky bitch Teresa is. I can't even say that's a good play, because it wasn't like Laurel wasn't going to find out that Theresa was leading that charge. So I do not for one second believe Theresa thought it was "strategic" not to say Laurel's name, I think she was just a coward. Plus in deliberations, she was the main one complaining about other people not wanting to say names and do their own dirty work! I can't stand a hypocrit. Theresa is just vile and an attention whore anyway. I knew that back on Fresh Meat II when she went after Kenny, then went after Wes after being rejected by Kenny. She knew the best way to get screen time and notice was to start something up with one of the most prominent players in the house. It worked out for her, didn't it? She's still around.

I still like the kill card and I can't wait til some real scrappy fights go down once the weaker competitors are weeded out.

  15. I don't think the vote was based on race, but I can see where someone else might see it that way. As someone else mentioned up thread, there are a few AA contestants this season for whom this is their first challenge--LaToya, Nia, and Swift. Swift hasn't gone in yet, I just realized. The house normally does throw in newbies first...has he been eligible to be nominated? I can't remember.

I was so mad Brandon went in. I love Brandon, and I feel like he always gets the short end of the stick. I don't know why. He's athletic and strong, but not as much so as CT or Zack. He's def on the same level as eeryone else though, so I just don't get it. I hope he comes back again and can get farther.

I don't watch RW anymore, so anything I've seen of LaToya is based on this challenge. She just seems to have nooooo class to me. She reminds me of Jemmye. I'm glad both of them are gone.

Jordan is such a prick, and Laurel is one of my faves, so I am not a fan of that coupling. However, I couldn't blame him for getting mad that Jess ran and told Anessa what they'd been discussing. And I like Jess, but I just cant take her side on this. Now, Jordan screaming at her? Not cool. Not because she's female--I wouldn't condone speaking to anyone like that. I'll add Jordan to my "no class" list. I did have to shake my head at Johnny Bananas saying he couldn't believe Jordan would scream in a girl's face like that. I've seen Bananas berate many a woman. Evelyn, anyone? I think he actually called her a bitch to her face on the Island. Not that I think Evelyn shoots rainbows out of her ass, but still. Gotta love hypocrisy.

Glad Cara is doing well. Wish Camilla would hit the road.

  16. I THINK Camilla said something about CT being a loser and still living with this parents or something like that. That's why he said he has his own house. But it's really hard to understand her, so I could have misheard.

Well yes, that makes more sense! haha
