  1. A director once said in an interview that cinematographers love darkness and he had to insist on getting brightly lit scenes. I think they just enjoy playing with light and shadow and to hell with the viewers.
  2. I just assumed Hargreeves had imported his personal car from England. I noticed the right- hand drive in an earlier episode but they were driving on the right side of the road. In this episode I assumed they were using a US version of the same car. I figure Hargreeves can afford more than one car.
  3. It struck me odd that Gordon described the school as being specifically 21st century rather than 20th, like he would know the difference. That style of building has existed for at least 100 years and we're only starting the 21st century. Who knows what schools will look like in 2050 and beyond? Of course, the writers do it to let us know it's supposed to resemble our present day, but I think it would have been fun to make it a 50's or 80's stereotypical school. The winding stairs that "Talla" climbs when she first arrives on the ship seemed anachronistic to me. I would have expected some kind of, oh, I don't know, turbo-lift? It just seemed out of place on a starship. Of course when the power goes out, they'll come in handy. I have to say, I'm not enamored of this series. I know it's meant to be an homage to ST: NextGen, but it feels more like a rehash with some snarky dialogue sprinkled in and a bad word here and there. When first announced, I thought this show would be more "Galaxy Quest", but it is what it is.
  4. It was a setup so I doubt the gun would be loaded or it was otherwise rendered inoperable.
  5. It looked to me like Hughie teleported out of his clothes rather than using superspeed.
  6. The urethra runs through the prostate so the penis is a direct route. Doctors check the size of the prostate through the anus because that's where their fingers fit and the rectum is close to it.
  7. This was the first time I've heard Selena's speaking voice and I don't think I could stand hearing her nasal voice every day. Does she have a sinus condition or something? I had the urge to blow my nose or clear my throat several times just hearing her. Otherwise I found she did just okay in the sketches. Sarah Sherman is usually just annoying for me, but I liked the backstage tour and the jabs at Colin. Of course the best part was when she dropped what she was supposed to hold up and powered through because flubs are part of the appeal of live TV. I couldn't understand what she or Colin were saying, though, so I still don't know what the joke was. I think the Baby Yoda bit is pretty much past its "best before" date so they can retire it for good, I think.
  8. Pike is like the Don Draper of space with a bar in his office. Star Trek: Mad Men. I'd watch it.
  9. That's who she reminded of, thank you! At first, I thought she was like the security officer on the Orville, but that didn't seem right. But Drummer? Yes!
  10. Now this show is a welcome return to the old formula: problem crops up, our heroes go check it out, captain makes a big speech, problem solved, on to a new crisis next week. Please, please keep up the stand-alone episode format, I am so done with the one-plot-season format adopted by all these genre shows. I noticed that both Pike's Enterprise and Discovery have only women at the helm positions as if they're making a statement about the male-dominated original show. I guess it's okay as long as they're not required to parallel park either ship. (I'm kidding, I'm kidding!) It just gives the impression that when Jim Kirk took over, he got rid of all the women on the bridge except for Uhura, and then put them all in mini-skirts. What a chauvinist! I was shocked by how much gray hair Pike has on this show. I looked up pics of him on Discovery and he started out with dark hair, I wish the show had kept that. I also don't care for the rather tall haircut. The rest of the cast looks fine, it's fun to see new iterations of 60's characters. I was expecting the doctor to be the crusty old coot we saw in "The Cage" but I guess he retired after that incident. The sets and production values look great, like they did on ST:Disco, and the episode felt like a combination of TOS and TNG storywise, so I hope this continues for the next 10 or so years that Pike believes he has left.
  11. So Harrow becones Ammit's avatar but doesn't get a cool suit like Layla and Marc? That staff doesn't cut it, he already had that. Really weak, Ammit! Disappointed we didn't get to see more of Jake and hoping a second season rectifies that. It felt like we skipped a scene when Marc was revived and suddenly Khonshu and Marc are outside in daylight, the battle with Ammit is done and Harrow et al are driving away. I wonder if it would have been a good idea for Layla to start smashing the other statues and let more gods free to battle Ammit? Or would it have backfired?
  12. I'd rather think that Jonah shot the cookie jar, scattering the ashes, and then they chased the PI away while they cleaned up the ashes. Totally out of character for Ruth to just walk up to that vehicle empty-handed after everything that's happened on this show. She would have either u-turned out of there, dropping f-bombs all the way, or marched into her trailer to get the shotgun like she's done so many times. That deep into it, there's no way the Byrdes are getting free of anything. At best, it's a temporary respite until the cartel or the FBI want something else. A disappointing finale, in my opinion.
  13. Wow, how long was the break in filming, Three looks like he shot up a few inches along with getting a deeper voice.
  14. Okay, now I remember, I was thinking of the time a player had to smash one of three(?) pots to get a safety scroll, but I don't know if it was Survivor or Australian Survivor. Fucked if I can keep all this crap straight at this point.
  15. I guess I imagined it, I'm not good at remembering details from past seasons.
  16. Is that what happened last season when someone (I don't remember who) got the Safe scroll?
  17. Doesn't playing SITD and getting the Safe scroll mean that no one goes home? I think Lindsay was in no danger whatever the outcome.
  18. Oh. My. God. I can't believe Lindsay had to point out to Jonathan that Drea playing her idol would knock Maryanne out of the game. "We'Re gOiNg tO hAve To tHiNk AbOuT tHiS." He couldn't think this through? And then this meatwad has the gall to try gaslighting Lindsay just to try to save what he thinks was his "big move." Bro, you need to cut back on your gym time and open up a book. Maybe algebra or something so you can figure out simple equations. Yeah, I'm not touching the TC segment.
  19. I understand Bruce is living in his parent's house and should respect their rules, but Bill giving him crap for missing curfew is out of line considering Bruce is a full grown man who's seen actual combat, even if he is under 21. For his part, Bruce should have phoned to say he would be late so his parents would know he was okay.
  20. Weird, I kept getting a young Kirstie Alley vibe from Stephanie even though the two don't really resemble each other. Maybe it was the slightly husky voice and the 80's hair.
  21. I think Steven scatters it around the bed to see if he "sleepwalks" despite the restraints.
  22. Credits say the voice of Honshu is F. Murray Abraham.
  23. When Sam was playing, production was paying her a lot of attention, so I guess the women who are left aren't really doing anything of consequence.
