  1. British humor is much darker than American humor. After watching episode 2 my husband was muttering "That was NOT funny!" (It sort of bothered me, too.) I am sticking with it, but at times it is uncomfortable.
  2. This is beginning to remind me of the Ruth Galloway books series by Elly Griffiths; a heroine, a forensic archaologist, having an unplanned child with a married DCI officer with children. He knows, but his wife only deduces it somewhat later on. Great book series.
  3. Hey, was that the Jersey Devil??
  4. Does anyone know anything about the supposed Joe Pickett series that the author CJ Box pulled the plug on before this series was developed, because he didn't like what they planned to do with the characters? Was it an executive decision to change the ethnicity of Nate Romanowski, or was it that this actor simply turned in the best audition for the role? Just curious.
  5. I don't know how long ago this was written/filmed, etc., but it was probably some time ago, presumably well before the writers/actors strikes became serious possibilities. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have left it on a cliffhanger otherwise (at least I hope not). All those special effects take time to work in.
  6. I don't think that Gilead lasts for a very long period of time. I've read The Testaments, and Aunt Lydia is very much alive and active during 99% of the book. Now I know she is a formidable lady, but she's not immortal! She does die, eventually, and at that point Gilead is beginning to crumble, with widespread leakage of secret files, actions, and events, both outside and inside Gilead. At the very end we are informed that certain characters we are familiar with lived long and happy lives after the fact. I don't know if the United States is ever actually restored, but certainly something much better than Gilead was replaces Gilead.
  7. So who exactly did Lady Lydia get engaged to? She announces a surprise engagement, but to whom?????
  8. It seems Gilead "wives" have absolutely no maternal instincts.
  9. But Crabtree had already claimed the money. Since he cannot inherit now, wouldn't the money go directly to the grandchild from the grandfather?
  10. Though I've never read any of The Witcher books I have been enjoying the series. This prequel has also taught me important things about The Witcher world's past. Firstly, the Elves, oppressed in The Witcher, dream of a past "paradise" without humans. IT NEVER EXISTED! The world of elves was just as full of wars, oppression, brutality, etc. as the "current" one. Elves bemoan the fact that the chief human city was built on top of what had been the chief elven city. But, in a hint at an even deeper history, it turns out that chief elven city had been built on top of what had been the chief dwarven city! The same cycle; was there a time when even elves did not "belong" on this world? Did the "Conjunction of Spheres" happen once before, in an even earlier cycle? Were the monoliths created by the dwarves? What did they use them for? Were elves dragged onto human worlds as well? It seems elves and humans did not speak the same language at first, as shown in the final scene. How many humans were dragged to this world, given that they were able to take it over?
  11. Final comments: 1883, as historically inaccurate as I believe it to be, at least came to some sort of conclusion: the survivors reached their destinations. I know some viewers wanted to follow the characters through a new season or two, but it did have an ending. 1923, in comparison, simply stopped. Absolutely nothing was resolved, everything was left hanging. In fact, new unresolved issues were introduced in the last episode. The only real decision made was by Spencer deciding to head home, but even that was left unresolved. The fact that everyone says he is the only hope for saving the ranch is for him to return means he has to, though I still don't see how that can resolve anything. Maybe the Duttons do lose the ranch, only to recover it again later. I hope we find out.
  12. Why didn't Spencer tell the Captain the name of the ship they were married on and the name of the captain who married them? And shouldn't that captain have given them some sort of certificate?
  13. There was a similar scene in Game of Thrones, involving Joffrey.
  14. Just finished Season 23: all quirky plots, as usual. But "Dressed to Kill" - would never have played in Florida! All those drag queens!!
  15. They also said that JLP didn't actally have the disease he was diagnosed with, that was something else. So that takes this back another generation; maybe JLP isn't who he thinks he is, either.
  16. Did the BRF have any idea that the children would be murdered as well? If they did, why didn't they at least make an offer to take the children? It may well not have worked, but at least they could have tried. How did the story/rumor that Anastasia had survived get started?
  17. I suppose that Picard didn't know that his body was at the Daystrom Institute; the Picards surely had a family plot or mausoleum or something. I thought all the Borg technology had been removed from him when he was rescued, so how can he be used as a weapon? Why have Kirk's body? Because he came from the Nexus? Tribble always reacted that way to Klingons; we just never saw it from that angle before. I thought they were going to steal the bird of prey.
  18. So, we have the Joker's daughter. I couldn't catch who the other kids parents were. TV Guide implied that it was Misha Collins' show, with the kids as background characters; very disappointed.
  19. Did you notice how Jack looked older and older as the episode progressed? By the end he almost looked like an old man! Also, there's something in his head! Something is very not right here. The other characters act like they don't notice his appearance. Also, for all the speculation that Jack might actually be a changeling or something worse, what if Beverly isn't Beverly! Has anyone else thought of that, or thought to have her checked out? That might account for her odd behavior.
  20. I also think there is someone else behind this. The Dominion and Changlings are not "long forgotten". Remember the slugs that were controlling people in a first season episode of TNG? And at the end they blew up the guy who was hosting the main slug? Who had sent a mysterious signal out to deep space to an unknown segment of the galaxy? (I can't remember the episode name.) Those are the "long forgottren enemies" from the episode description; I'm sure of it!
  21. Why?? Is there some technical reason?
  22. Who is the little man who keeps following the Queen around?
  23. Wow, I didn't see that ending coming! (We know he won't die, as there is so much more to go!) I've been thinking about why they didn't start with the first book, and I think I know why. Still Life was made into a movie (with a completely different cast) just a few years ago, and I think they didn't want to start the new series by going over ground so recently covered. I think maybe many of those on this forum have seen the film. (For those who haven't, Still Life: A Three Pines Mystery, is also on Amazon Prime.) I feel sure they will rework the story somewhat and cover it in an upcoming season. (Because this is the book where Gamache first meets the people of Three Pines, and in this series that is no longer the case.)
