  1. I loved the flag challenge. I was worried when I saw the one team that had Netherlands' flag confused with Luxembourg's flag, that they might be there for ages before noticing, but it didn't seem to be too troublesome. Poor leg design all-in-all, though I don't mind too much so long as the end of leg bunching is a one-off. It was kind of interesting to see all the teams on the train, praying the models don't make it. You said in the previous post that you had never heard of any them before, and you've only seen the glimpses shown in the episodes. No kidding that you haven't found anything of merit, in that case, because you haven't looked!
  2. From "the amazing race" part of reddit: Burnie: "The procedure we all used was required by the clue. You could not lay the paper on the bench, nor could you multiply." Ashley: "We had to do it seat by seat, and one of us had to be sitting at all times. We couldn't lay the papers out and measure that way either." In fact, their accounts over there provide a lot more background info if you're interested. https://www.reddit.com/user/jinxcellent (Ashley) https://www.reddit.com/user/GusSorolaVERIFIED (Burnie).
  3. Burnie and Ashley have explained that the clue dictated the exact way you had to do it. You could not multiply and you could not lay the newspapers on the bench.
  4. Try it yourself before you badmouth a person's talent and skill. Why would you label anything creative "pathetic"? Even if you personally don't care for the stuff he makes, that kind of video editing requires a great deal of talent and creativity. If it was so easy anybody could do it, he would not have been able to launch a successful career out of it. He's also not the most famous of this bunch fyi. Lingo has a good break down of it all in another thread, and Tyler is heaps more successful than all the rest of them. Finally got time to watch this episode. My main takeaway is that the brothers are some of the least adept racers we've seen, however nice and cool they seem. I'm liking Tyler and Korey, Burnie and Ashley, the Spanish speaking Frisbee bro (but not the super loud one) and a few more. There's a pretty clear division this season between good teams who have a chance of winning (the Dancers, Tyler and Korey, the gamers and the Frisbee duo) and everyone else, imo.
  5. The frisbee dude made me laugh by yelling "It's cleansing" in the mud pit. It just surprised me. They're a bit annoying though, if seemingly competent racers. "El raceo" was cringeworthy. If that's your best attempt at Spanish, keep quiet. Tyler and Korey seem to be a strong and likeable team. I will not miss the mother and daughter. The brothers have more potential to be interesting, although I'd appreciate less talking about how smart they are and more showing how smart they are. They certainly didn't make much of a case for themselves tonight.
  6. Thanks for this, super interesting. And its also a good insight on who is most likely to be recognised by/get help from locals, which may well be a factor.
  7. FWIW I agree with you that it it is an irrelevant factor to the game. I'm a Survivor watcher too, and I've seen those discussions there and on other shows. That's why I'm surprised it hasn't been a factor in this discussion, that's all I meant. Probably shouldn't have brought it up, sorry all.
  8. I actually think that if that's what he wanted, he could get that pretty easily. But the Vine thing is a pretty good gig. If I could be paid thousands and thousands for a six second video, I'd probably want to stay in the industry. I'm actually surprised that I haven't seen people criticising that aspect of things more, considering how much criticism the cast is attracting in general. Some of these people truly don't need the money. I'm fine with the cast, but "rich people don't need a million dollars" is a more winning argument against it in my view than "anybody vaguely involved in social media is a narcissist and bad person". (I'm sure several of them could do with the money, but all in all, this cast must have the highest average income of any season in history) Maybe it's because it's bad manners to talk about money matters.
  9. It's increasingly clear to me that there is a major cultural clash (probably generational?) on the matter. The nice thing about a discussion forum is that you can post your good/bad/ugly pov, and then people are free to agree, disagree or discuss what has been said. You can interpret that as them as a person trying to make you change your mind, or you could view it as a person involving themselves in a conversation, and presenting the opposing viewpoint. So long as it's civil, why does it matter if people try to explain their differing viewpoint? It makes for a more interesting discussion. I disagree that most of these contestants are just trying to advance their career. The models probably are (but there are models doing the same on most seasons). But Tyler, the dancers, the gamers, Zach the Vine guy etc. are all as big in their particular niche of entertainment as they possibly can be. They don't need the show to help with access to agents and sponsors, or whatever else they might want, because they already have those contacts and opportunities. 5 million twitter followers > a few episodes of TAR in the media world these days. Edit: I see that, while I was typing RCharter made a lot of the same points as me, with better phrasing! Sorry for the repetition.
  10. To clarify, it was the mum who made the viral video, not the daughter. It wasn't making fun of flight attendants, s she herself is one. It was just a funny take on the safety info all flight attendants have to give. You can see it here. It was a one-off, they haven't made a career of it, and the mum is still working as a flight attendant. The son is a "viner", whose mum sometimes appears in his vines. Fairly certain that he started the account of his own volition, and wasn't pimped out by his mum. You can watch a compilation here if you want. It's not for me at all (I think its targeted at 13 year olds, which is fine but...).
  11. This comes across like you are fine with the kinds of youtubers you like, and dismiss anyone else as a "famewhore". Look at Matt and Dana's channel. Regardless of what you think of hiphop dancing, they are clearly extremely talented dancers/choreographers who are making a contribution to that field. Their videos feature very little talking, and spotlight many other dancers. In fact, when I found out they were cast for the show, I looked at their channel and had to watch several videos before I figured out which one was Matt. This was their biggest video last year for reference https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxT7kK5Gygk Look at the Rooster Teeth channels (there are several). The only video that Burnie is in regularly is their podcast, if you take a listen to it, you will realise that it's not all about him. Instead, it's a funny chat with 3 or 4 other people, about news and pop culture, and anything else that may be interesting. Here's a silly, funny (NSFW) video he is in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pka-iimdgFc Ashley is effectively a news host, she talks about industry news, not herself. The Clevver girls do much the same, really not very different than local TV hosts. Zach King's videos are designed to show off his video editing tricks, not his personality. Blair's kind of content is not for me, but is posting a makeup tutorial all that different from posting a "how to tune a carburetor" video that you say you are ok with? She has a skillset and is teaching it to others. There is a value to that, whether you value the fashion/hair/makeup world or not. Hell, even Tyler, who most easily fits your "famewhore" slur has demonstrated that he has more depth than you are giving him credit, as he has done heaps of work for worthy charitable causes. His teammate is a podcast cohost, nothing more. I was also wary of the season theme when announced, but I did my research an have realised how different these people's job and lives are.
  12. I've been a long time fan of this show, and have been inspired to make an account here to address some of the vitriol. How on earth are people coming to so many conclusions based on one episode? It's obvious that people have a lot of preconceived notions about digital media, and are looking for ways to confirm them. You don't see people excited to see the world? Everyone, with the possible exception of Sheri/Cole, seemed super excited when the race started to me. Certainly, no less excited than any previous season I've seen. If you look at their pre-race info and interviews, they all talk about how excited they are to experience new places, new cultures and have an adventure. You don't see people with real relationships? I see a mother/daughter, father/daughter, mother/son, brothers, newlyweds, engaged-for-years-but-no-wedding-date-in-sight couple, dating three years, 2x female best friends and 2x male best friends. Do you think that having a youtube channel somehow invalidates these genuine relationships? Somehow I don't think having one viral video has changed Hagan and Marty's mother/daughter relationship. A vine account doesn't stop people from being brothers, and having all that love and pent-up rivalry that normal siblings have. People with different jobs and histories? There is a flight attendant, OBGYN, professional dance choreographers, news hosts, a gamer couple (one of whom started one of the biggest online entertainment companies and ran it as CEO for many years), models (boring, but hardly unique to this particular season). Even people with the same job title can have very different backgrounds. Cole and the brothers are "viners", but I'm not sure that the hyper emotional mother/son from Alabama have much in common with Cameron and Darius who seemed to run the first leg in a much more cool, calm and collected fashion.
