  1. Those piazzas looked great, except too much Jennifer. She's pretty boastful for someone who's produced some pretty awful dishes. I know the purpose of the show is to hype up the drama by making it look like everyone's got a chance (or may be eliminated), but she really is the weakest link, in my opinion. Of course, some of the others put up awful dishes, too, but not as consistently as her. I don't watch a lot of cooking shows, but even I know not to use truffle oil. I would have a lot more confidence in the show's integrity if Cody had been sent home, because his dish looked (and apparently tasted) completely unappealing. It was a pleasure to see Eric, who seems like a genuinely nice person.
  2. Sorry, I tried, but I'm done with this show. I can't even say why, because I really like Ed W. I don't know, it just doesn't seem interesting, maybe because I've watched too many cop shows. It's a bad sign when little things (like Paco using the expression "reach out to") bug me.
  3. Thanks, Broderbits, I will check that book out.
  4. Wow, I didn't realize how strange Oppenheimer was. For someone who, literally, held the power of widespread life and death, this portrayal of him is chilling. Speaking of chilling, Abby's turned into quite the monster. I really like how the show has shown her development (I guess I can't say, "growth") into Lady MacBeth. I'm so glad Frank is out of jail, and I hope he'll rejoin the action soon. I laughed when I saw that enormous tub of chili. Frank and Liza (and Glenn) are by far my favorite characters; everyone else is just kind of a placeholder to me.
  5. That was SO MUCH fun. Bruce Campbell is (still) great, and the gore wasn't over the top. I hope they can keep up the good writing and directing, because this episode had just the right amount of humor.
  6. Wow, what happened? When the show started, it seemed so good - 3 pleasant contestants, (semi) interesting annecdotes - but then, ugh. Those TSs were just horrendous - I stopped remembering them out of self preservation, so my head didn't explode. I guess, perhaps, I prefer good but obnoxious contestants to pleasant, ignorant ones who were obviously playing cautiously (ie, not to lose, not to win). I liked the eventual winner, except she's guilty of my #1 pet peeve - saying the whole name of the category. I don't even know why it bugs me so much, since they did pretty much clear each board.
  7. Not to beat this to death or to get in an argument, and you probably know more about this than I do, but isn't acting like an exec chef exactly what a team leader should be doing? Maybe a little pleasanter perhaps, but I wonder if Line wasn't encouraged to play up her military background, which is her distinquishing characteristic. I don't know if it was editing or what, but it didn't seem like either team really had problems - the red team won because their sides tasted better, and I would suggest that part of that, the great cualiflower soup recovery, was due to one of the judges pointing out the problem. I guess you can say that Line should have been more open to other food suggestions (ie, strssing better tasting food rather than healthy stuff, although I would have thought that Cirque folks were into healthy eating), but that seems a bit like hindisight to me.
  8. ha ha, I don't want to make it, I want to eat it. All of the Cirque food looked delicious. Considering the truly awful dishes she's produced, Jen is delusional. I totally felt sorry for Line. She didn't make good choices for her team, but she was smart enough to dial it back when she saw her dictatorial approach wasn't working. I don't blame her for saving herself. All of those meat pies looked delcious. I was surprised Tammy, whom I consider such a strong competitior, didn't do well.
  9. I don't understand why they're keeping Frank's whereabouts such a big secret. Ok, they thought - and I guess still think - he's a spy, so why not just say so? It's wartime, nobody cares about the civil rights of a suspected spy, even if they admit they were wrong. I miss Frank actually being a character. Good for Fritz! At least now he won't have to pay for every interaction with Jeannie. At least they've given us a reason for Meeks. I hope he and his handler are able to become double agents, or can find some way out of their situation. I got the impression the woman (have no idea of her name) wasn't really a committed Nazii, or even a communist.
  10. I don't know why, but I really like Michael - he's just such an interesting character, he likes the pretty. I wouldn't want to hang out with him (or eat his food, necessarily), but he is the one who seems most interesting to me. Of course, this is probably the kiss of death for the poor guy.
  11. I'm glad Sean won, since he is just the kind of contestant I like - pleasant, knowledgable. I was surprised he didn't get the King Tut DD, though. Beth was ok, too, but Tom was totally irritating. I thought overall it was a good game, not exciting perhaps, but not ridiculously easy.
  12. I don't know if this is acceptably off topic, but I just watched the first 2 episodes of the new Amazon series, the Man in the High Castle, and thought it an interesting perspective on Manhattan, since in that series, the Germans did develop the bomb first, exploded it over Washington DC, and thereby won WWII.
  13. I thought this was an interesting episode. I was especially eager to see if the jerky guys got a deal - I buy their jerky for stocking gifts every year, because it tastes quite good, but is expensive and too unhealthy to eat on a regular basis. I never heard of a "switch witch" and can't imagine why anyone would invest in that. Are the kiddos supposed to believe that a witch has actually taken their candy and left some stuffed thing? I am assuming that the stuffed witch was the gift, but maybe not, maybe that is in addition to a gift that may be more to a particular child's taste. I liked the Skinny Mirror woman as a person, but what a terrible idea. At the very least, instead of pushing it as a self-worth thing, she could have positioned it as a "correcting" mirror that takes off the phantom 10 pounds of a flat mirror. I have to agree with the sharks - if I bought something based on how it looked in the store, and then saw something less flattering when I got home, I'd be PISSED. I liked the way the dome guys ended up with a "syndicate" of sharks (as opposed to a shiver of sharks or a shoal of sharks). I can see the commercial applications of the drone - but I really liked (and can see buying) the phone drone. That really sealed the deal. I couldn't believe how Mark dragged out his answer, I guess he was trying to think of a way to muscle out the other sharks.
  14. Why didn't Liv recognize Gilda as her roommate? Or am I getting things mixed up?
  15. I liked the episode more than last week, which isn't really saying much. I thought the whole ordeal with Frank was just too obvious - but on the other hand, Justin Kirk! I hope the show hasn't written itself in a corner, and really has a plan for (quickly) integrating Frank back with the team. I wondered about Charlie telling the Big Secret to Abby - isn't the house still bugged? I guess, since Richard Schiff isn't around any more, and they think they got their spy, no one cares.
  16. Thanks, Marianne, for the link. I was starting to wonder if I was the only person watching this in real (or slightly shifted) time. I'm glad it isn't too violent - when King Edmund had his test of faith, I wasn't horrified but amused. The proto-English do come off as more civilized than the Danes.
  17. I can see a market for a decent-tasting, flash dried pizza - office workers lunch and bars, as the guy said, but also hikers etc. Anyplace where you need something light , quick and easy. The dad guy was obnoxious, and obsequious. I give him credit for not bringing along a tyke to demonstrate.
  18. That's me, and I am SO SORRY. I don't know which was more irritating, the SHOUTING or the starting the categories at the bottom. Who am I kidding, the SHOUTING was worse. He wasn't even funny. Ugh, I really don't think I can watch if he's on. Why couldn't that cutie Michael or that pleasant cat lady have done better? I really liked the demon category, although I have to admit that I didn't get any of them.
  19. Sorry to anyone who likes this show, but I've decided that watching it is like television macular degeneration - I like all the supporting characters, but I just cannot watch the 2 leads. (Ha ha, I guess I have a blindspot.) I hate the way the they are written, I hate the way they act, I hate the way they're dressed (Jane: get a long-sleeved turtleneck, we won't forget that you have the tattoos and learn to blink; Kurt: get a clean shirt and tie, we know you are a rebel), I hate the way Jane turned into Captain Exposition. I had to force myself to wait until the end (I will never watch this show live again, although I probably won't watch it at all), just to see the customary Michael Gaston end of episode reveal. I think they're just cramming too many mysteries/issues in this show, instead of just focuing on the tattoos (and the narrative associated with them), which I would think would provide enough interest for the season. So, we've also got the Taylor/not Taylor kidnapping and associated Kurt angst and Daddy issues, Operation Daylight, gambling agent and a few more I just can't think of right now. Does anyone know if that UV plot point is true, that there is a CDC location specific UV frequency?
  20. I liked it a lot, too. Uhtred wasn't the way I had visualized (drooled over) in the books, but the actor was fine. I thought the episode did a great job, without being too expository, in explainaing the background and characters. I'm sorry more people aren't watching it (based solely on the number of posts here).
  21. I really liked the books, and was SO excited to see that this was coming. I think my expectations were so high, though, that I've doomed myself to disappointment. I don't know the actor who's playing Uhtred, but the fact that he has dark hair is already making me concerned.
  22. No disrespect to anyone intended, but I thought that episode was awful, enough to make me think seriously about giving up on this show. I've liked it very much, from the first episode through last week (some episodes more than others, of course), even Katrina didn't really bother me. This episode just didn't have the charm and wit that I like, I don't care at all about Joe and don't like to see Jenny sidelined. I thought the dialogue was strained, and even Ichabod and Abbie didn't seem as good-looking as usual, although Jenny was even more beautiful. The dementor was just pathetic, no personality at all, certainly no Headless. Maybe I was just in a pissy mood, but I didn't like all the faces NB makes (and I've really liked her up to now). If Busty Ross (ha ha, Senna, good one) is going to be a recurring character, as I'm afraid is the case from the credits, then I definitely am not going to bother watching. I used to think TM had chemistry with everyone - but I see that is not correct.
  23. Not to beat this to death, I agree that Liv shouldn't tell her family she has AIDs or soemthing that would snowball. Surely, there must e some less life-threatening reason why she couldn't give blood - after all, she's a doctor. Just to be clear - I wasn't ncessarily stating that I thought Liv was right or wrong not to donate blood - what I really objected to was the harsh characterization ("total pricks . . fuck these choads") when I thought their hurt and distress was absolutely reasonable, given what they know (or don't know).
  24. I could not disagree more. Liv didn't give them any reason whatsoever why she couldn't even donate some blood for her seriously injured brother - he's been in the hospital for at least 3 months, so obviously he was close to death. I would never forgive a family member or friend who refused to help, without them giving me at least some excuse (even if not a good one). After all, its not like they were asking her to donate a kidney. While on the whole I like this show because it is funny, smart and well-written, this is another example of ridiculous, unnecessary drama arising out of a simple failure to communicate, just like the whole Major thing. I didn't really like this particular episode, but I'm just so glad to see Ravi, Clive and BLaine back I can put up with it.
  25. I watched this show originally because I was a Strikeback fan, and wanted to see Sully. The first 2 episodes kept my interest, but I think I may have reached my limit. I foujd myself obsessing over little things (why don't they get Jane a turtleneck/long sleeve shirt - we KNOW she has a lot of tatoos! Why is Kurt so casually dressed ? ), and then I realized that's becuase this show is boring and predictable. Yes, there was a lot of action and fighting, but - - so what? It had NOTHING to do with advancing the plot, except for coming up with the word "Orion," which could have been disclosed by the bearded guy before he died. This show would be a million times better if they just lightened it up a bit, especially with the Kurt (ugh! I just got it! They should just have spelled his name "Curt"). Sullivan could benefit from a bit of Damian. Jamie's a beautiful woman, but I'm sick of staring into her huge, perfectly made-up dilated eyes. I usually try to separate the bad writing from the bad acting, but these two are beyond that. I really like all the actors except for the 2 leads, who have zero chemistry.
