I don't understand the whole emancipation for children thing. Why does it exist?

    http://www.courts.ca.gov/selfhelp-emancipation.htm

    Quote

Emancipation is a legal way for children to become adults before they are 18. Once a child is emancipated, his or her parents do not have custody or control of him or her anymore.

If you are emancipated, you can do some things without your parent’s permission, like:

    • Get medical care;
    • Apply for a work permit;
    • Sign up for school or college; and
    • Live where you want to.

Hillary Clinton will speak at the ceremonial opening of a new exhibition bearing her name next Tuesday at the State Department, Clinton spokesman Nick Merill told CNN Friday.

Clinton has kept a low profile since losing November's election and this will be only her third public appearance in Washington since her defeat. She will be joined January 10 at the event by former secretaries of state Madeleine Albright and Colin Powell.

The event will open the Hillary Clinton Pavilion, one of four exhibition halls at the US Diplomacy Center.

American Woman has landed a 12-episode order on TV Land. No premiere date has been set yet.

“I don’t know if I’m always excited about it. Sometimes I go, ‘Oh, my gosh.’ I think, in sharing the stories about my life growing up… I was a child actor my whole life,” the 47-year-old explained of her childhood. “My mom let me drive myself to work everyday at the studio from 13 years old. I had no license. She doctored my birth certificate to say I was a year older, so I was emancipated when I was 13, not 14.”

  4. Brandi and Kandi Dreier are now 30 years old, and they're identical twins. Their best friend and roommate filled out the application for them to be on the show.

The camera crews have followed the twins off and on this year and will continue to follow them for some time. For now, they’re only scheduled to be featured in the season premiere, though it’s possible a follow-up episode could come later.

There’s nothing wrong with shaming people who have done shameful things. And there are few things more shameful than supporting a fascistic bigot.

Yet since the election, we’ve heard again and again that calling Trump enablers out for their bigotry is fruitless and wrong-headed. This line of argument, which comes mostly from white  men who have the privilege of seeing racism and sexism as a thought experiment rather than a destructive reality, says that ‘identity politics’ hurt Democrats and that the election is proof that feminism ‘lost’.

They know what they are doing is wrong. And it’s our job to remind them of it.

Instead of bending over backwards to bolster the self-esteem of bigots, we can make clear that the country we want is unapologetically progressive. We can refuse to normalize bigotry, shaming those who stand with Trump. That is how we build a more just society—not with kowtowing or equivocations, but with strength and truth.

    Quote

"This Is Us" star Chrissy Metz needed a wheelchair for a bum knee ... NOT because she underwent gastric bypass surgery.

Chrissy was in a wheelchair Tuesday at LAX ... because she hurt her knee in Florida during Xmas. She has some lingering pain but should be at full strength in a few days.

The wheelchair suggested she might've actually gone through with the surgery ... after her character, Kate Pearson, vowed in the last episode to have gastric bypass. Her people tell us she absolutely did not have gastric bypass.

Chrissy's people tell us the bum knee shouldn't impact shooting the show, or this weekend's Golden Globes, where she's nominated for Best Supporting Actress.

Ariana should probably drink more often...she's far less pretentious when she does. Is she the oldest among the group of girls on the show? Because she seems the most naturally pretty and youthful.

Kristen is 33. Ariana and Scheana are 31. Katie is 30. Stassi is 28. Brittany is 27. Lala is 25.

  8. Of course the Toms and Jax are farty. We knew Schwartz has a low libido, but Sandoval is sexually frustrated? (He was obviously hoping fun drunk Ariana would have Winnebago sex with him.)

It was funny when Schwartz asked before trying the steak Ariana was eating (with her hands) if it'd been in anyone's butt. It was sad that Schwartz was so excited at the possibility of having just one night without hate texts from Tequila Katie. (And what was she doing with that grapefruit?)

I guess the Summer House crossover (like NASCAR and Lala's swan song) is coming next week?

Here are six ways women are resisting Trump:

    1. Women’s March on Washington

    2. Donating to Planned Parenthood in Mike Pence’s name.

    3. Teens send vagina lollipops to Donald Trump.

    4. Teen Vogue emerges as a political and journalistic force.

    5. Women of color elected to most diverse Congress in history.

    6. More women running for office.

I have a feeling Dorit will pale in comparison to the next lamb up for slaughter, Eden Sasson. She is Rinna's find.

The description for next episode says "Lisa Rinna and Erika meet Eden, daughter of Vidal Sassoon."  So at least TPTB aren't pretending that Eden is Rinna's BFF.

    • Don’t forget: Trump does not have a mandate.
    • Challenge Trump’s nominees.
    • Don’t normalize Trump.
    • Focus on real people.
    • Protest and engage in civil disobedience.
    • Oppose Trump’s infrastructure plan.
    • Obstruct Trump’s presidency.
    • Exploit Republican infighting.
    • Mobilize for the next elections.
    • Start presidential vetting now.

Jane O'Meara Sanders inherited a vacation home in Maine, but the family was unable to make use of it due to its distance from their primary residence in Vermont, so she sold it and used the proceeds to finance the purchase of a more suitable vacation home in North Hero, on the shores of Lake Champlain.

Earlier fake news reports said Bernie bought the house with campaign funds.

If the weight-loss industry and the fitness industry and even, it seems, the president-elect would rather have you counting calories instead of all the frightening ways the world has changed since November, if they want you spending your money on commercial diet plans instead of giving it to Planned Parenthood, then you can recommit to self-acceptance, and on doing work that will ultimately matter more than the shape of your body.

Personally, I’m planning on taking the money that previous Januarys might have gone to Weight Watchers or the diet book of the moment, and using it instead on bus tickets from Philadelphia to Washington for the women’s march on Jan. 21.

  17. I'm watching Broadcasting Christmas with Melissa Joan Hart, Dean Cain, Jackée Harry, and Cynthia Gibb. The Connecticut woman with the 100-year-old fruitcake is played by Tony Shalhoub's sister (who knew?), and Hart's father is played by the guy who was Larry on Three's Company.

Morning news anchors (who used to date) Hart and Cain are both vying to be the new co-host of a Live with Kelly–type national morning show (opposite Jackée).

If you’re over the whole freakshake thing, keep an eye out for ice cream rollups, a Thai street-food trend poised to go global this year. Liquid ice cream gets flash-frozen and stuffed with fruit and other toppings, then wrapped up like a burrito and garnished with more fruit and cookies. Already available at Class 502 in Houston and New York's 10Below, this stuff may well give pay-by-weight froyo a run for its money.

"Over the whole freakshake thing"?! I was never under it. They're apparently Australian "milkshakes topped with cream, topped with cake, topped with sauce, with a handful of sweets thrown in for good measure":
