  1. I always appreciate when a depressing story is followed by a spectacular ending. Ilgar! Kudos to the LWT team for all that digging into Absolute Standards. That is Spotlight level of dedication there.
  2. I thought the whole point of the singer was to curb the mid memorial applause that was distracting and taking away from lesser known names. But then the montage became an afterthought and the focus went to the singer. Either have the singer in the background or go back to just an orchestra or pre-recorded track and focus on just the screen with a disclaimer at the beginning telling the audience to withhold applause until the end.
  3. I had Lily on my ballot because of the SAG win. Emma winning is a-ok by me though.
  4. Emma Stone snags #2. The battle of the 'Stones was a close one. Looks like Killers is joining Maestro in the goose egg department.
  5. Boo! Can't the spectacle song ever win. This is Blame Canada losing to Phil Collins all over again.
  6. Oh for sure. I can't remember who said it but there was also some quip about how behind every famous male auteur/artiste director is a female editor making all the right cuts to ensure his movie is watchable.
  7. I tend to give the side eye to any 3+ hr film that wins editing. But then again LOTR: ROTK won it so, yay Oppenheimer?
  8. Aaaaand we have our random win of the night! Godzilla!
  9. It's fitting that the man who had a huge part in launching the most successful franchise in the modern era nets the statue. Congratulations RDJ, the gold standard of Hollywood comebacks.
  10. I just realized Oppenheimer is 0 for 5 so far. Curious if it takes editing or cinematography.
  11. I'll take a multitude of presenters over 8 damn montages of the same 30 clips rearranged.
  12. Damn Poor Things snags production over Barbie! At this point song or costume is Barbies best bet. NVM:Song it is
  13. Hairstyling never had a category but it got added to makeup a few years ago.
  14. Was hoping for Barbie but American Fiction is an excellent alternative.
  15. Didn't Miyazaki win in 2002 for Spirited Away?
  16. Da'Vine Joy Randolph was totally expected but still a nice kickoff. Love her in Only Murders in the Building as well.
  17. I think Kimmel kind of played safe. But after slapgate and Jo Koy this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Solid opener.
  18. I'm here for Goslings performance but we'll see how entertained I remain.
  19. Nope it's the Mary Poppins carpetbag print dress. The silhouette is nice, the print not so much.
  20. Infuriating, both subjects. I've been following the IVF story all week and yes it's very much damned if you do, damned if you don't. Women who don't want kids: forced to carry to term; women who do want kids but can't naturally conceive: tough shit! We've known for so long that it was never about the kids but about power. The pig butchering scam ended up being more depressing. I feel awful not only for the scammed but the people enslaved into working as scammers. It's like, how can we abuse human rights even further...oh wait here's how! I know John likes to point out how this was supposed to be a comedy show but it really has evolved into so much more. It's no surprise that the episode was light on jokes because none of these subjects are funny or could be made into something humorous. That said I kind of want a rainbow tree. I actually like it better as a tabletop.
  21. I want to live in it but I don't want to be the one that has to drive it. Selfish, party of me. John is back and not a moment too soon. It's pretty telling that both the Jo(h)ns are already exasperated with the election year but it's so important to remain engaged. Good episode about the Supreme Court. It's a shame what Clarence Thomas represents. When he speaks in public he actually comes off very charismatic. The fact that potential plaintiffs can wine and done justices and then don't have the audacity to refuse is just so wrong.
  22. Winona will always and forever be My Jo. And speaking of of Oscar wins that should have happened... WINONA WAS ROBBED! I remember when Jessica Lange's name got called and my mom and I looked at each other with the same WTF look. Agree about the score, Thomas Newman was robbed too, it one of my favorite movies scores of all time (the trumpets!) but Disney couldn't be beat on that category in the early 90s. The man is 0-15, think it's Honorary Oscar time for him. The same dog and pony show of who got nominated and who didn't happens every year. I do think Barbie should be happy with what it got. It would be nice to see it snag a costume or production design win. Adapted screenplay possibly but that category is stacked I really don't know who is favored to win that one.
  23. Yeah, Margot's snub is pretty egregious. America getting there was a nice surprise. Also to Paul Giamatti getting a Beat Actor nod nearly 20 years after getting iced out of one for Sideways.
