Does anyone have a favorite model or brand of a Dutch oven cookware? Is Le Creuset really worth the money or do you prefer something else?

I love my "Big Blue" 7 liter Le Creuset dutch oven. It is well used, but I have had it for about 20 years. The inside is well discolored, but it is my favorite roast/braise/soup pot. I also have an eclectic collection of All Clad bought over the years and I love them all. I do have an old enameled cast iron Lodge braizer (3 1/2qt) and as Yeah no mentioned...mine also has a few giant chips on it, but all are on the outside, so I do still use it. However for even bottom heating it can not hold a candle to the Le Creuset, even being cast iron.

Le Creuset is heavy and mine lives on a shelf next to my stove because of the weight. My wrists have issues off and on and I am very careful with them during the good times, so I don't like lifting Big Blue unless I have to. I recently searched for an in the middle pot from All clad that could be bigger than my braizer but smaller than the dutch oven and I bought a discontinued pan that is a straight sided very wide round pan with a dome lid, it's called a rondeau but sometimes a braizer.  Its a bit odd looking but being a clad pan it sautes meat or bacon really well and holds a 6qt volume. With the big dome lid it can even do a smaller 4 pound roast or turkey breast.

You can't go wrong with All clad. My only beef with them is their handles on their saucepans. They just don't feel right in my hand and when I'm carrying one full of liquid it is awkward for me. I love my 2qt saucier and even with the handle, it has good balance and I can hold and carry and pour easily.

They have a seconds sale each year and they do discontinue pieces. You can get good prices if you shop around.

Here's a link to the interview Meri gave regarding her Irish roots. Whether it's true or she's just making it up, I can't say: https://tvshowsace.com/2019/03/18/sister-wives-meri-brown-shares-her-irish-ancestry-on-st-patricks-day/

    Maybe 1/16th Irish 🤣

My Grandmother was really into genealogy and traced her mother and father's lines back to Ireland and England to the 1500's. She made many trips to both countries to search church record books and graveyards. She traveled all over and met quite a few of our distant relatives and amassed a lot of family stories as remembered by living relatives. The Irish keep a lot of their history alive orally, or at least back then they did.

I don't believe a word ANY of them say.  It's all about the PR. Sometimes they can't remember one lie before telling a conflicting one.  Wasn't she the one who came up with the "multiple doors for multiple wives" BS about the inn?

My memory says that the owner of the Inn said that to Meri when she was giving a tour.

So true, my guess is Meri especially and Janelle probably would have limped along forever, just because it felt impossible to leave. Christine showed them it is and was possible to leave and get a real life of their own.

I agree. I think that Janelle only left because Kody turned his venom onto her since she didn't coddle him like a toddler. She also took (and held) him at his word and not all the back peddling he did with the battle with her sons. Instead of Kody being an actual man and working things out with the boys face to face, he was a little bitch about it and threw tantrums because Janelle didn't force them all to kiss his ring, because she isn't and never will be Robyn.

If he would have kept his big mouth shut on the couch with the camera on, Meri would not have officially left. She has just been living her life her way for a long time.

The snow is really powdery so not much water from it. I had a small trickle of water Wed night for 2 hours before it refroze so I was able to flush all 3 toilets. Having that many helps keep the yuk factor down some

Pump guy says will be here either early Sat. or Sunday afternoon. His weekend with his kids....

Can't wait until it is flowing from the faucets again!!!

I grew up in the deep country and losing electricity was a common occurrence. We always kept several buckets in the basement shower stall as a just in case. Before any predicted storm one of my chores as a very young child was running up and down the stairs with the buckets and filling them in the bathtub to use to flush the toilet if we lost electricity. Water can be manually poured into the back cistern, but lifting the porcelain top can be cumbersome. Having a smaller 2 gallon bucket is handy, just scoop water from the bigger bucket into the 2 gallon bucket and pour that straight into the bowl to flush it, using the old "brown flush down and let the yellow mellow" saying. A quick spray of Lysol to the surface of any standing "yellow" takes care of any odor as it mellows.

I am still in the country and my skills still come in handy. Christmas 2022 was so much fun when a sub zero cold snap hit and our well pump died on Dec 23. It was too cold to safely pull the pump out, but my husband rushed to buy the last one in stock at Lowes on the 24th and we kicked into gear using carried spring water to run the household. While I rarely fill buckets of water with predicted storms these days (because of the spring by my driveway) I did that time. I had 5 buckets in the bathtub filled and just didn't get around to dumping them when we realized the next day that the pump died. Old habits die hard I guess. It saved carrying 25 gallons into the house for toilet flushing!! It didn't warm up enough to fix it for 6 days. Fun times.

I wonder how kootie thinks he and david will become friends ?  Cause Christine and David will spend holidays with their families in Utah.  Christine probably would bring truly herself unless Ysabel does it.   I realize he still thinks he is the nucleus of the family  even though all evidence shows that’s untrue   But he wants the plague pond lot because his kids will suddenly start coming to see him ???   My hope is that when they start getting utilities put in and the pond has to be removed completely

The pond isn't a pond, it's a type of retention ditch. Part of their properties are a flood zone and water flows from the road that they often film on through the center of the properties into the "pond" where the solids can fall to the bottom and the water on the top flows out the other side.

They are to control the flow of the water and trap it during heavy rains or snow melt from the mountain to prevent flooding. If you look closely at the aerial view they show of the properties you can see (with the different color of the soil) the flow of the flood waters.

I believe that the weird mountains of random dirt are from the "pond" being dug out. Eventually it will fill with dirt and debris and needs to be maintained.

Way back when the realtor was telling them that they could line it and stock it with fish...I wonder if that was just some random thing said for a storyline, but that ditch is most likely controlled by the local authorities governing water flow.

I know voting is compulsory in Australia (but I don't know if that stands for citizens who are outside of the country). I don't know about anything beyond that, though.

Oh my word. I started to Google, and then realized that what I really need is to have my head examined.

It's not like Sam and Lindsay were real.

The saddest part of catfishing in my humble opinion is that we (those outside of the con) want to make as much sense of it as possible, and can see the holes everywhere. Yet those inside the con (even educated and intelligent peoples) seem to accept the most bizarre "facts" as truth.

A handsome man who's new photos don't really look like the profile photo, a mega rich person who pilots planes around the globe, but can't show up at ANY time in the city you live in...ever. A man of such great wealth as to own such a plane, but "he" sends you a bouquet of flowers and it is a low cost basic bouquet of baby's breath and carnations.

Also I have a good friend who is Australian and he didn't know if "returning to keep your natural citizenship" was a thing or not. And he tried to explain their voting system and I couldn't wrap my head around it...except that you MUST show up to vote but that you can refuse TO vote. 🤨

  8. In reference to the 6' 6" tall pilot...

Yes, Sam the catfish man was supposedly a tall pilot as well as a multi-millionaire, owned his own plane and routinely flew Lindsey, his sidekick back to Australia for her to renew her citizenship each year (is that even an actual thing!!??)

So he wasn't just an everyday private pilot license holder...but had his international license as well.

    🙄

...I have trouble these days remembering what I made for dinner two days ago...but these random bizarre catfish crapfacts seem to stick in my head like glue.

Your, youse, y'all....all fine by me.  What I can't stand is subbing in a F or V for the TH sound.  I watch a lot of British youtubers and it is chronic.  I have to translate some things in my head with context (i.e. free is three!  WTF?).  It's like razors in my ears.  So the Browns' use of dill for deal, rill for real...meh, never bothered me.

When I was a teen, I babysat an Italian family. The mother gave her toddlers raw onions to eat (like an apple).  As far as I know they never had a cold. They must have been some kind of sweet onion as the kids ate them with gusto.

My husband is still horrified after all these years when he sees me chopping onions and snacking on them as I go. The hotter the  better !! 😁

Just googled it.  I guess it is a thing.  Sounds icky but whatever.  Here is another:

Another “hack” involving onions consists of soaking chopped onions in water for up to 12 hours and then drinking the onion water, claiming it clears congestion.

Or maybe..you know... take the onion and make some soup 🙄

They never went just for a weekend, as they had to drive from Utah/Nevada to Montana.  That was a 13 hour drive from Vegas,  11 1/2 hours from St. George and 7 1/2 from Lehi.  Usually it was for holidays or school breaks.  They would stay for a week or more.  I remember all the wives started getting their keys for their new homes right before they had to leave to drive to Montana.

I'm sure it took way longer with Kody driving. Layovers for various car maintenance issues and all those bathroom breaks to fluff and primp and scrunch his hair along the way.

    • I’ve been around since Season 1, Episode 1. Probably an unpopular opinion, but  I have never been much of a Christine fan. She’s just too much..Always has been, imho.  She’s what I refer to as a “look at me” girl. Having to caterwaul at her daughter’s wedding is just one example.  It was exhausting watching last night’s episode.  And don’t get me started on Mykelty and Tony. But of course, I’ll be tuning in for the  main event. I’ll see myself out now 😉

No need to see yourself out... Pull up a chair and have some wine (or other lovely beverage of your choosing)

Me too!!!!  Wasn't that fucking wild??  Anna, daughter of Ervil, looked like Christine to me but I don't think they are related.

Right, and I sat there thinking, oh - I see where Christine's kids get their height, because Ervil was so tall, but then I remembered - wrong plyg family, lol. Christine's dad is Rex, who was one of the sons of Rulon Allred, who was killed by Ervil LeBaron's cult.  It is so messed up.  What those people lived through was terrifying.  I give all of them props for being able to talk about it.

If you want more, FYI - there is a podcast called Deliver Us From Ervil.

If memory serves (correct me if I am wrong) but Christine is related to both? I think her mother, Annie, is related to Ervil.

Oddly enough this post has been edited. Someone capped the original post over on reddit.

The original said..."I'll always forever be grateful to Mykelti for accepting David into my life before the rest of my kids. She is ALWAYS been so supportive and LOVES David. They have an incredible relationship."

People being people someone called her out in the comments for editing and the comments got shut off.

People have all kinds of reasons for liking "homeopathic" remedies. I'm not a fan, but if it doesn't impact me, live and let live. The lack of "belief" in vaccines really chaps my ass though. "Believing in" is for Santa and the Easter Bunny, Mykelti. Not for vaccines. Get your kids (and yourselves) vaccinated before one of them develops polio or smallpox or some other entirely preventable illness.

I still remember a very powerful storyline in the old tv show "ER". An anti vax mum brought in her child with measles or chickenpox and very quickly the child took a turn for the worse and the mother was screaming "he can't die...it's ONLY measles/chickenpox"!

Yet millions did just that pre vaccine.

This thought is giving me a headache. But according to Robyn , a woman in their faith is not spiritually divorced until there are intimate relations, right ?   So did she get spiritually divorced before the wedding to kootie head ?  Or did he marry a married woman ???    For people so concerned with “purity”

Now now. Robyn spent endless hours on her knees restoring that discarded and broken purity to revitalize it like it was shiny and new so that she could give that most perfect and greatest of all prizes to the one mostest perfectest specimen Kody Brown, who she should have been with from day one...

Naturally discounting the fact that she was 11 1/2 years old when Kody married Meri...

Janelle's marriage to Adam Barber was LDS, not AUB.

According to the Browns' Becoming Sister Wives book, Adam had been raised in the AUB, but he wasn't committed to it. He converted to the LDS church for Janelle, then they started "courting." Janelle wrote that Adam wasn't all that interested in his new faith either, and one of her complaints against him was that he lacked "spiritual conviction."

Since that wedding announcement Ginger provided says they were married in the Salt Lake City Temple, their marriage was a Mormon sealing. However, since she left the faith, and converted to the AUB, I don't know if she bothered to get a release.

Adam married twice after Janelle (not plural marriages). He may have gotten a release, if his subsequent wives were LDS.

Oh, I'm sure that Big Joe and the Flying Spaghetti Monster labeled Janelle with a big for Harlot as soon as she sealed herself to Kody as a second string wife.

You can find all the post-season "special" episodes here: https://go.tlc.com/show/sister-wives-tlc

Part of the problem is that TLC has totally effed up the episode numbering. They reused Season/episode numbers for all the post-season shows. For example, they numbered Talk Back #1 as Season 18 Episode 101, which is wrong, but also, I think it has confused the streaming services that do carry Sister Wives (and some cable providers, and some DVRs).

    SisterWivesSeason18postseasonepisodenumberingiswrong.thumb.jpg.414e67f2b31a2924b2b94b7905618ea1.jpg

Are you sure the post-season special episodes are on Discovery+?

I went to my Amazon account on my computer (I subscribe to Discovery+ through Amazon), and I only see the regular season 18 episode there (i.e. through S18.E18, "One on One: Part 4." The same thing happened when I went to Amazon Prime on my TV, selected my Discovery+ subscription, and looked at Sister Wives season 18.

Similarly, the post-season specials are not on Max, as far as I can tell.

Discovery+ does not have the special episodes (I sign up for it during the season).

To watch them through the link you posted you need to sign it using a cable provider, if you don't have that special code you can't watch them that way.

They are not listed as available to rent or even buy through Amazon Prime.

This decision of TLC's to put them out ONLY on live television providers is beyond frustrating.

I think part of her wanting it documented, and the fact Robyn was there, was because she wanted Robyn to hear it from Kody. Meri and Kody had a private conversation before this where he made it clear(ER) to Meri.

That seems to be part of Kody's game. Meri mentions conversations that she has with Kody, but they are always when they are alone and off camera. Kody doesn't seem to mind shouting at Janelle on camera or sitting Christine down with all of them so he can shame her on camera but for some reason he wants personal conversations with Meri alone and private. It was good for Robyn to see and hear Kody say those things (tho he tried to keep it all very vague) directly to Meri and for Meri to make sure that Kody couldn't "interpret" what Meri was saying later.

Is Robyn going to wake up and realize that her opinion of the other wives is filtered through Kody's "interpretation" and "creative" twists that he puts on conversations ?
