  1. I think tattoos in general are becoming more acceptable in society. I'm a ballroom dancer, with tattoos. That's one dance style that definitely is all about the prim and proper (smooth and standard, anyway). I have one around my ankle that's difficult to cover up. I don't like the look of it when I'm competing in smooth, but there isn't much I can do. I've also held off on getting one on the back of my neck for that very reason. It's a personal preference, but is accepted in the dance world. I've seen some girls with full on back tattoos!
  2. So much happened and yet the thing that sticks out in my mind is how much of a dick Adam was laughing at the girl who threw herself into the move and fell. The way he laughed just screamed "asshole who mocks other people". Ugh.. I loved you, Adam. Now I realize your just an elitist. So sad about Jaja. I'm rooting for my fellow ballroom dancers this year. I agree, they're trying for a ballroom win and a couple of them have a really good shot at it! Oh, and Rudy. I have to root for that lovable dork.
  3. Woooooooooooooooo! Happy news! I have no idea how old Jack is, but he is definitely my older man crush!
  4. I'm very happy to hear this! By the end of the original I was frustrated at how fast the show had fallen, but I'm rewatching the series with my son and remembering just how much I loved the first few seasons. If done right, this could be very good!
  5. I disagree, I believe Thorne did redeem himself. No doubt he made countless mistakes up to this point, but he acknowledged the mistakes and tried to make it right. That is the definition of redemption. If he did everything right in the first place, there would be no redemption needed. ;-) He also explained why he is who he is and does what he does. Being a leader is not as easy as it seems. I'm very interested to see his fate and what will happen next. I thought it was pretty well established that he lacks integrity and is a coward. Tyrion Lannister: I'm not questioning your honor, Lord Janos. I'm denying its existence. I might have this completely wrong, but I thought Raegar was the brother of the Mad King? ETA: Ah, yes.. Drogo. I had it wrong. So confusing!
  6. I agree with starting with Rose. I can't emphasize enough to stick with it though. For the first 4 or so episodes I was like "What the hell?? Really? People are into this?" By the 4th or 5th episode of the reboot I was addicted and started binge watching. I got through all current seasons up to now. I get it now. I totally get it. I'm there with you all. But it took me 4-5 episodes to really understand it. Now, I can't let it go.
  7. I saw quite a bit in this episode. It actually surprises me to hear some people found it boring! Jon became a leader, the rest of the crows (rapists, thieves, criminals) became heroes, we lost 2 out of 4 of Jon's closest friends, jerky-face commander redeemed himself and taught Jon what it's like to truly be a leader, and there was quite a bit of action and fantastic cinematography! For the most part I think people expect explosions and *in your face* action all the time. Not speaking directly to you, of course. But, most folks these days want action! action! action! For me, when there's all action and no substance, that is boring! I thought this episode was perfection. The only thing I'd change is we should have seen more buildup to the battle. I think people weren't as invested in the characters as they could have been because of the lack of screen time. What I found most compelling is my husband (also a bookwalker) was rooting for the "good guys" to win. Until I challenged him on who the good guys really were. We see the Wildlings as unruly savages. Ultimately, they're just trying to survive. There's an argument for both sides in this battle.
  8. I love the Wall scenes and I loved this episode. While the Game of Thrones is going on throughout the 7 kingdoms and Mereen, the real threat is at the wall. People are too busy with politics, sexy times, and kinslaying to pay attention to this threat. Shit's goin' down, yo. A silly trial by combat is nothing compared to what is on its way!
  9. I had this long post planned, but you said it all for me! Word. To all of it. Mary Poppins did not impress. For the first time in the show, I looked down and was playing on my iPad waiting for it to be over. Also, I kept picturing "alien" girl with hair. Once I did that I realized she really was not that good at all. Her lack of hair is what makes her different. Her dancing was not impressive. Tapper also did not impress me. Nigel was right, she was too childlike in her moves. Not enough grit and soul in her tapping. I don't think she deserved to even go to choreography. The others: Jaja was amazing and I hope she goes far. Same with deadpan girl. "Sexy" girl had talent behind the hairography. And I'm very glad they sent Puppet straight to Veg-- er.. LA. He won't make it past the first round, but he deserved to go.
  10. I watched this show for the first time last night. First, I saw the previous episode with the entitled brat that wanted everything handed to him on a silver platter, forgetting that he requested to be on a WEIGHT LOSS show. (ugh!). Then, I saw this episode. I must say I was impressed by the Mom. I thought for sure they'd both have some co-dependencies going on, but she seemed to move on pretty quickly and is enjoying her life as her own person now. Good for her! I thought the Dad was an unbelievable jerk. I too noticed he wasn't at the finale. What shocked me was when he said he'd put a gun to his head and then turned around and accused his son of being dramatic. What?! Dude... what the fuck? Having said that, I see his point, though. The son needs to move on and not try to force his Dad's love. It isn't there, it won't be there. Get therapy, move on. I thought it was disgusting the show kept trying to get the son to confront him about it. You want to really help him? Hire a therapist. Stop trying to put him in a position to get hurt. Speaking of disgusting, I do NOT agree with the whole skin removal surgery thing! It seemed like these folks barely hit their goal weight after what, 9 months? Then they're approved for this surgery? Horrible, horrible medical advice! 9 months on a TV show is not enough time to maintain their new lifestyle. In my opinion, they should be maintaining a weight for quite some time before that surgery is attempted. And another gripe, the whole "oooohh you missed your unrealistic goal by 1lb! I'm so disappointed!" Fuck you, trainer. What kind of response is that?! Celebrate the wins and the weight loss, don't act like missing an unrealistic goal by 1lb is some sort of epic failure! I'm not sure if I'll continue to watch. Both the trainers annoy me. ETA: Oh, yeah, that did piss me off. As surprised as I was to see the Mom independent and ready to live her own life, this was uncalled for. You don't just throw a kid out of the house, no matter what the age. You give them warning, you teach them what they need to do, you guide them, you help them. Parenting doesn't stop because you found someone to share your bed.
  11. The man is responsible for many of the "major" deaths and overall chaos in the show. He's responsible for Jon Arryn's death, Tyrion getting blamed for trying to murder Bran, Ned Stark's betrayal, I could go on and on. The man is the most evil on the show. But not for squishing heads, for using his mind to manipulate others.. ..and yet.. I'm still madly in love with the character. He's sexy as all hell. He's a very good looking man, with a sexy raspy voice, a brilliant mind, and has amazing (if inappropriate) chemistry with Sansa. For me, he's the hottest guy on the show. Yes, I'm aware of how warped I am. ;-)
  12. That is an image of despair, heartache, shock, and terror... Yikes.. MY hair is standing on end seeing that. I've never seen that actress before this show. She's fantastic.
  13. Squishy grape heads aside, the thing that got me most in this episode was the love and connection shown between Oberyn and Ellaria. I honestly have never seen such intense love between two people on TV. Sure they've been seen having sex with everything and enjoying themselves. But, the scene here was pure love. 100% adoration and love for one another. I could feel it. There were so many little moments that caught my attention: The kisses, were real and passionate. They weren't fake sloppy messy "passionate" TV kisses. They were simple, but deep, meaningful kisses. Also, while he stood beside her, she had a grip on his arm like she didn't want to let go. They were connected in a way I've never seen. I'm still in awe. Superb acting by both.
  14. I'm not sure what you mean. They look like regular ballroom pants to me. Are you referring to the bottom hem? Men's dance pants need to be able to move and show movement. Rhythm/Latin men's attire is odd anyway. Open shirts, sheer, etc. But those pants look pretty standard to me.
  15. There's a syllabus of moves you can perform for each level. You don't have to do all of the moves in the syllabus, but you absolutely cannot do a move that's in a higher level. A most recent example is my friend was competing at the Bronze level. In Bronze you're not allowed to do a develope (leg kick). At the Bronze level both feet must remain on the floor. She ended up getting 2nd because she did a prohibited move. The focus is more on what's allowed vs. restricted for your level, rather than required elements. Pretty much. You do have to use your core to dance, and not just "dancing your feet" (as my instructor reminds me every damn week.. grrrr), but yes, the frame should be solid and not hunched over. I love the duck paddling analogy. teehee!
  16. Following up on this question. Yes, there was a Foxtrot "Feather" in their Tango this week. It was in the middle section. It's a "slow-quick-quick" move with a rise on the "quick quick" It's more of a sweeping action. Tango is normally danced all with bent knees and is more sharp. You can see in the middle there's a moment of smoothness as they work in the feather. I thought it was brilliant! I don't watch this show much, but I know Len is very old school and all about rules, so I was a little surprised he liked that. (Removing link because I just noticed Flick posted it). As Flick said, it's here: http://youtu.be/cgpDN-nDoP0?t=4m38s What I can't believe is they did.. what.. 8 pivots in a row towards the end? Holy crap! Amazing! ETA: I can't believe James scored so high. His footwork was an absolute mess! That was terrible!
  17. There are so many "ballroom" dances they could add. I don't know why they added contemporary. It's silly.
  18. Oh, I don't know about that. The Slitheen were pretty stinky. I threw an all out toddler tantrum when Nine started regenerating. He was my first Doctor as well and I told my son "NO way! NO how! Not EVER will I give the next Doctor a chance!" Throughout Ten's first episode I kept shouting, "I want my Doctor back!!" Of course, then I fell in love with Ten and the rest is history.. But Nine. Nine pulled me into the show I thought I'd never watch.
  19. I'd say my top 3 (in no particular order) - Ramalama - Mad World - Addiction (original crispy recipe) Mad World and Addiction just bring me to tears every time. And I'm not an easy crier.
  20. I finally got to see Meryl and Maks' Foxtrot on Demand! From what I saw there were actually a lot more Foxtrot elements than I've seen in any other dances. They were in closed position quite a bit. But again, they did add a bunch of "showy" elements to it because, well.. it's a show. But it was a Foxtrot. I thought she did fantastic!
  21. Which is why I've given up. ;-) Purposely getting spoiled is easier to take than trying my hardest not to be and have someone ruin it on a whim. Actually, reading some spoilers makes me more excited to continue reading. I get just enough (Ex: "Penny" - oooh! who's Penny?) to tweak my interest.
  22. I saw that too. I'm only a bit spoiled since I haven't gotten to that point in the books yet. But I think an unsullied person immediately going to: "Olenna took a gem off Sansa's necklace and poisoned the cup" is way too far reaching for someone completely unspoiled. I think someone wants to look clever when it's revealed. I'd be annoyed if I were unspoiled.
  23. I don't think we have to worry about his balls rolling.
  24. Unfortunately, my DVR hiccupped and didn't tape this week so I missed it. To generally answer a few of your questions: you're correct, the main differences between Smooth and Standard Foxtrot is the speed and hold. Smooth is faster and you can open up. Standard is slower "Slow Fox" and is only done in closed hold. Foxtrot also has rise and fall, just like the Waltz. It's just done to a different tempo. And yes, Foxtrot requires heel leads. I'll have to find this one and Charlie's dance on YouTube to see the specifics.
  25. As a fellow dancer, I love to see this thread. So, how many times have you heard "When are you going to be on Dancing with the Stars?!" ;-) What's your biggest pet peeve on the show? I'll answer mine, I have two: 1) The misconception that they are learning how to dance the various dances. While there certainly is some technical aspect, they are learning specific routines; specific choreography. You cannot walk into a dance studio and do what they're doing in a few weeks. It takes years to learn proper syllabus for the levels (bronze, silver, gold). 2) The choreography focuses too much on the entertainment aspect and not enough on the actual dance. Too many times I watch and think "That was a Rumba?" (see: Candace's last dance). I can appreciate good open routines, but it should be recognizable!
