  1. What really irked me is that Juan specifically told Mellisa not to worry because everyone knew she had to cut someone, so nobody would be offended by her decision, and then he acted like she'd committed an unforgiveable offense by picking him. Apparently what he meant by his comment was, "Don't worry about offending Thiago or Daniel. They both know I'm better than them, so they'll understand that you had to cut one of them in order to keep the best person on your team." Mellisa annoyed me a lot, and I'd liked Juan up until that episode, but I found his hypocritical reaction to Mellisa's decision very off-putting.
  2. What I want to know is what would have happened if Bret and Chris had voted for a team who had no other votes -- say, Tyler and Korey -- making it so there wasn't a clear second choice for the U-turn. Probably they would have done a re-vote, and it would have been interesting to see how that would have shaken out.
  3. I don't know that their motivation really was personal, though. I think at that point they were still hoping that no other teams would vote to U-turn them, so it made good strategic sense to just U-turn the team that had already voted for them, rather than alienating another team who had yet to vote and thus almost guaranteeing that they'd be U-turned. It didn't work out, but I think their decision was based on strategy, not on personal feelings.
  4. In Battle Creek, he played a jaded but good cop. Maybe not really "nice," but much nicer than his usual characters.
  5. Yes, but that was more because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. She still needs her own personalized kidnapping/hostage situation in order to be a real part of the team.
  6. The airport feels like another leg of the race -- an exhausting social game leg where everyone suspects all of the other contestants of colluding with other teams to get an advantage and Janelle and Britney feel like they have to manage several different relationships so everyone likes them. "So much scheming, it's exhausting, honestly -- it's like we're playing Big Brother at the same time we're playing The Amazing Race." Corrine and Eliza especially need to be coddled. Janelle and Britney would talk to the Reilly sisters around the corner so Corrine and Eliza wouldn't see them talking, since Corrine and Eliza hate the Reilly sisters so much, and if Corrine and Eliza saw them sitting next to the Reilly sisters in the airport, they'd have to spend the next 30 minutes with Corrine and Eliza badmouthing the Reilly sisters to preserve their relationship with Corrine and Eliza. I'm sure it's an accurate portrayal of Corrine and Eliza, but in my opinion, Janelle and Britney come across as being stuck in the junior high mean girl mindset too. Not a great look for anyone here.
  7. Probably a sign that the judge had unrealistically high expectations going in. If Becca and Floyd had done their first try after one of the other teams flailed their way across the stage, I think they would have passed immediately.
  8. Calm Colin reminds me a lot of my favorite brother, while Crazy Colin reminded me a lot of the brother I have the most difficult relationship with, so I'm enjoying this version of Colin much more. To me, he's got a good balance between competitive focus and enjoyment of the experience, and I find his current attitude of calm maturity both pleasant to watch and hilarious in the context of his previous behavior.
  9. Re-watching the episode, I thought they did a good job dropping little hints about this aspect of his character. For instance, when Jake says that most people thought Great Tiger was impossible to get past on Mike Tyson's Punch-Out -- in a comment that wasn't even really directed at the dentist -- the dentist feels the need to jump in and smugly say, "I beat him every time. You just punch him when he gets dizzy." Also, the most effective interrogation technique they tried, up until the end, was when Captain Holt was making fun of dentists and saying that they're not real doctors. It was clear that the dentist really disliked having his degree mocked and de-valued.
  10. Doug Judy: I thought you'd be happier to see me. Why are you being so weird? Jake: Oh, I don't know, I didn't sleep well last night, so I'm probably tired from that. Oh, and also, this is a hostage situation. Doug Judy: Wow! It's like that? Jake: Yes, it's like that. Doug Judy: They're not hostages. I prefer to call them collateral friendships. Negotiator: That's all negotiating is: two liars lying to each other until one liar stands too close to the window and gets shot in the head. Negotiator: Snipers to one. The window plan is on. I repeat: the window plan is on. Jake: No! No no no. Snipers to zero. Snipers, take a nap. The nap plan is on. It's nap-time, snipers. Terry: They're looking at us. Look natural. Holt: Spreadsheet, spreadsheet. Terry: Crime, crime. Holt: Precinct, precinct. Doug Judy: You're talking to a pre-recorded video. But it's cool. I know what you're saying. I hear you in my heart. Jake: What am I doing here? Doug Judy: I feel the same way! You're my best friend, too!
  11. My parents are working (in a volunteer capacity) with impoverished families in East Orange, New Jersey, which is right next to Newark. One of the families they work with is living in a condemned building and has been for something like ten years. The landlord has been trying to kick them out for quite a while, but has been unsuccessful so far. So yeah, reality is extremely different.
  12. That bothered me too. I kept trying to figure out why they needed to get rid of all of their stuff to move. Are they moving to Hawaii or something? Most people take things like crockpots with them when they move, unless they're moving abroad or something like that.
  13. "Aah, I get it. So, a riddle is just like a fact that's told in a really confusing way."
  14. I loved the Harry Potter reference, where Amy compares herself to Hermione (which makes sense) and Jake compares himself to Snape (which totally doesn't).
