  1. Thought this was a good interview with JJ and about Nashville-filmed in early May.
  2. Thank you for explaining this. Saw that Callie Khouri directed the finale- believe she's directed a number of the episodes. Also believe she has written or co-written a few episodes- but she can't be happy with how Dee Johnson managed things. I do think that the creators who remain involved with their shows and write for them - i.e. The Kings and the Good Wife and Weiner (or is it Weintraub?) of Mad Men-- seem to have a real vision long term for their characters (and not all the fans agree with the vision, I guess). I haven't read much about it, but I thought Khouri's vision for the show was about how people chase their dreams in Nashville- with particular emphasis on two strong and different women and their journeys. I am all for ensembles-- but there was just too many storylines with characters that I don't think the audience ever clamored for. If somehow it gets a second chance, hope they get back more to the original premise.
  3. Didn't think they'd cancel it ( at least would give a shorted S5) but did think it deserved to be yet still a little sad because...as so many others have noted...it was so good in S1 and even in S2. And a great original cast of actors and characters and music. Was thinking about when the show started going downhill. At first- thought maybe it was the car crash at end S1...but then S2 was pretty good I thought. But I think with S2, when they started phasing out the political subplot, they just kept bringing in MORE characters and guest actors with varying degrees of talent. And it just seemed to muck up all the plots. Thought the show worked best when the main 6 (then 7...Will and Carmack I thought were a great addition because he was introduced organically as pt of Gunnar's storyline) interacted with each other. And then the show just devolved completely in S3 that brought the prolonged Rayna Luke story then the absurd liver disease/miserable Beverly and of course- worst of all- the PPD. No viewer wants to be miserable watching a show all the time. Seems like Connie Britton may be a little relieved about its demise and can't blame her since the quality was down. And she didn't seem happy with the direction of the show (like many of us). She'll no doubt have plenty of options in tv and film. She is a great actor and a pro and brilliant person in her own right. Heck..she could probably be an Ambassador to China if she wanted or in politics in some way. Rooting most for Hayden Panettiere and Jonathan Jackson. Both are very good singers IMO and terrific actors. Clare Bowen clearly the best singer but not a big fan of her range as an actor...nor Palladio. Didn't Bowen have a record coming out that was going to be produced by TBone Burnett or something? Maybe missed it but haven't seen any follow up about that. Am surely in the minority, but I thought HP was the real star of the show and Juliette the best character- in spite of all the ridiculous things TPTB put Juliette through. Do not think there's a precedent for a spinoff of a canceled show...but I would love a spin off show centered on Juliette. Do hope ABC or another network gives her a star vehicle opportunity. As for JJ, rooting big for him as well because of the way he and the writers (one of the successful things they did) turned around the Avery character and how he did so much with often (IMO) so little storyline/dialogue. Have noted Dee Johnson was the EP and justifiably deserves much of the blame for the show's failings..but doesn't Callie Khouuri as the creator approve all the storylines? Curious how decisions are made with a show's direction. Lastly- sorry for lengthy post-will also miss the great comments on this forum and the terrificly funny/snarky/insightful episode reviews from Max Weiss of Vulture, Kimberly Roots of TVLine, and John Ramos.
  4. What a waste this show has become...agree with all the comments about the terrible writing and inconsistent character behavior. It's like a race to the bottom. There is just nothing to root for and misery all around. What do the producers see in Aubrey Peeples? She has got a nice voice but she is a terrible actress. And the girl who plays Maddie is not very good either. And is it just me... or do the producers just not like having Chip Esten or Jonathan Jackson singing any more ? I am probably just biased as they are two of my favorites, but they seem to get very little to do these days other than play hurt and/or anguished. And we seem to get this constant parade of guest performers singing mediocre songs that add nothing to the already badly conceived storylines. Do these show runners read the fans' comments and the blogs? Surely they can't be pleased with the state of the show. Read recently (tvline maybe) that the show's renewal was now closer to a 'safe bet'. As a longtime fan (albeit now almost just a hate watching one) -am a little mixed. On the one hand would be interested in seeing what new writers and producers could do with a show that had so much promise and quality in the first 2 seasons. But am also just so sick of these terrible depressing stories that we should just pull a Beverly and pull the plug.
  5. Hello out there- anybody got any spoilers on the following: - looks like there are new (yes, even more characters they are adding, apparently) singers that Deacon and Rayna quarrel about-- or something- and with Frankie? I forget- who is Frankie (maybe the bar partner?). Is Rayna going to use that Beverly (I resent even typing the name) bar for her record company? - anybody got any scoop on the way ahead for Juliette and Avery? Saw something about a possible hook up between Avery and Lyla? Hoping that it's something else ala producing her album-but I fear the worst. Also- looks like they are bringing back the DWTS guy as part of Juliette's storyline- so thinking that can't bode well for Javery. Welcome any thoughts/known spoilers. - Lastly- welcome any comments about the fate of the show. Earlier in the year it appeared that the head at ABC practically guaranteed a season 5 but with a new boss, would assume it will be re-evaluated and will be down to an early May confirmation one way or the other. But if that is the case-- wouldn't the PTB at ABC let Khouri and her crew know (if it's getting canceled) well enough in advance so they can at least have a proper series finale that ties up all the loose ends? I for one still watch the show but hate so much of what they've done with it since seasons 1 and 2. So while at this point I wouldn't mind them ending it would sure be nice if they'd reward viewer/fan loyalty with happy endings for all the main characters.
  6. So agree. Markus is a boy; Deacon is a man. Why the show is even hinting that Rayna or would be interested or there would be some sort of temptation is a joke. And agree-- Markus isn't remotely sexy- is he supposed to be for the show and there is this Rayna/Markus connection or is the show trying to tell us that he is an immature ass and they know it? Maybe reading more into it, but thought the scene where Rayna was listening to him was telling. Was not at all convinced she thought he was that great- or maybe she was just distracted? THought Connie Britton's portrayal was interesting there. Loved Avery and Will but then love all things Avery (especially) and Will. Please show- give us more of them and less of Luke and bratty Maddie and the alleged Scarlett/Gunnar/Caleb/Erin "quadrangle:". Avery's song was one of the better ones this year. Beautifully sung and acted.
  7. Also very interested in Juliette/Avery spoilers but don't think we'll get anything for awhile. Isn't Hayden Panettiere still on leave from the show? Am assuming that it will be awhile before they show Juliette interacting with many or any of the cast until well after she returns. And when she does- and am sure hoping it is soon- I imagine it would be one on one conversations perhaps with her therapists and then maybe the occasional individual visits from maybe Emily or Glenn or Deacon. I imagine would be easier to film those scenes with just HP and another actor and incorporate them into later episodes, depending on when she comes back. Would like to see how the show manages showing her recovery- will they show her actually talking it out with doctors and with others (her own therapeutic apology tour) or will they just forward her back into the mix of the show all healed? Welcome any comments from those in the know. Am also interested in any known Avery and Layla spoilers. Am assuming that they put them together at some point if only professionally. But have a feeling they will somehow have scenes together and develop some sort of emotional connection. Hope I am totally wrong on that as I usually am wrong with spoilers/speculation. Not sure how or if, given HP's availability, they will go down the plot route of giving Juliette another love interest this season, but if they did, still think that might be Markus. But would love to be wrong on that as well. Episode 9 is called "Three is a Crowd" and the press release specifically states that Markus will want to drop a song from his record and somehow Deacon is involved as well. So glad they are NOT dragging out the Deacon/Rayna wedding. We really need some happiness on this show so hallelujah on that!
  8. This- thank you. I wonder if the showrunners actually think the majority of fans really did care about them or they know that we know that these 'tragedies' are a joke and they are being ironic or something? Can't believe they spend so much time on these useless characters. Both the Beverly and Jeff sainthoods are laughable. And am so sick of Luke and his brand and his son and Layla, who seems to get to sing more than anyone else these days. On other fronts, thought it was odd that Deacon is un self aware enough to think that Rayna would be overcome with joy at the 'surprise' he showed her? Like, covering her eyes before his big reveal cause this is so great? It's not like he bought her another lakehouse or something. Wow, Rayna, aren't you excited that I'm working at a bar and I am rechristening it as the Beverly in honor of my sister who was miserable and jealous of you and bitchy to you all the time? It sure was cold, but still enjoyed Juliet dismissing and telling off Layla- never grow tired of this. Will was great-- he totally and rightfully called out Gunnar and the WIll/Avery scenes were really good. The lullaby was sweet and the two sound good together. Maybe they'll make them a younger hipper (and hotter) version of Brooks and Dunn? Avery- great cry- now please stop crying and get a haircut. If Scarlett can, you can too.

"Take My Hand, Precious Lord," Chaley Rose Read More: New 'Nashville' Soundtrack to Be Released in December |http://theboot.com/nashville-season-4-soundtrack/?trackback=tsmclip I honestly haven't been that impressed with many of the songs so far-- so I don't recognize really the ones that have already played on the show (other than Crazy, and the Chaley Rose song)... think the Lennon Stella song "Beyond the Sun" was already in one of the episodes, too? And didn't Chip Esten already perform "Like New" in season 2? Welcome any insights as which from above have already played/aired this season.
  10. Amen to that. Hoped Nashville wouldn't go for the total soapy cliffhanger- what in the world was I thinking. So many ways they could have gone, and they choose this?
  11. Wow. I still watch this show and yet still wonder why. Probably in the minority, but thought this episode totally sucked. And it was directed by Callie Khouri. This was no Thelma and Louise. She can't think this is high quality drama. The fall at the end was laughable. THE BEVERLY... St Beverly and St Jeff....what a joke. And looks like we're STILL not done with Juliette's misery...how much further can they go with this. The storyline makes me want to get treated for depression. Don't care about Luke and his PR girlfriend. Certainly don't care about Luke's son and his angst and Bratty Maddie and Gunnar/ 'girlfriend'. The Scarlet song was lovely. Not sure what the Markus character brings. Not convinced that Rayna was sold on Markus. Rooting for Daphne. Avery, love you still - get a haircut please and show- give him something else to do.
  12. Like several others have noted , I also didn't see Maddie singing with Juliette as a big deal. Shame on me for reading too much into the episode release/previews, but I thought that Juliette in a drunken stupor was going to tell the girl to have sex and find them a place to do it or something. So the fact that it was only singing at least gave us a Juliette moment this season that was actually sincere and more in line with the two characters' prior interactions in prior seasons. And I think Rayna should be concerned more about her daughter's other ambitions- like sleeping with her boyfriend. Did we ever get a scene last year where Deacon told Rayna about how he found the girl with her boyfriend/making out/not fully clothed? Cannot recall. I had assumed that a follow up Rayna/Maddie conversation had occurred off-camera, but am wondering if somehow Deacon failed to mention it and this becomes a plot point later... Agree with Lillybee...think/hope ultimately Avery produces Layla's album. As a big fan of both the pairings of Juliette/Avery and Deacon/Raya, am disappointed about the future prospects of Juliette/Avery but encouraged about Deacon/Rayna long term. Had concerns that this Markus guy might create some sort of wedge between them as Rayna starts working closely with Markus. But given that he's a sophomoric prick/first rate narcissist, I can't see there being any real emotional attachment from her end.Though, of course, they'll probably soften Markus up in later episodes/make him more likeable. So while there may be friction coming between Deacon/Rayna related to other plots, I am so hopeful they don't physically separate them again this season and just have them together/working things out as they come up.
  13. Who dies? Guess betting money would be on Jeff if someone does die. But like thaliasghost, I took the fatal end promo as some sort of PR move-- and/or that maybe fatal end means something else (maybe stretching it, I know)-- like the end of the Javery marriage (though guess divorce couldn't be processed that fast) or the end of Jeff being Layla's agent? Since Jeff is a recurring character now, didn't see that, if he's not in the Episode 7, that meant anything.. For me another speculation topic of interest is if someone is there to bring Juliette back from the ledge/edge of the building, or if that maybe is a misdirect and she's not really thinking about jumping but just wandering around the top of the bldg drunk/gone out of her mind. Assuming there is someone who pulls her back-- I would bet on the one of the following to do it: (1) Rayna (2) Jeff (3) Deacon (4) new guy Markus. I would hope that it'd be Avery but don't think it will be. Am assuming that Juliette's on a bldg back in Nashville, maybe- like on the top of the HWY 65 bldg where she first did that roof top concert. Markus is probably far-fetched but think at some point they are going to pair him up with a post rehab Juliette. And at some point, think they will pair up Avery with Layla. Hope I am really wrong/off-target. Not sure if it was on this thread or another, but someone asked if there had been a SHEP on the show before. I THINK there was a guy named SHEP who was Scarlett's sound guy or something when she had that first concert mishap maybe?
  14. Thanks much for the follow up. I too will be curious how they manage the show and plot going forward. Wonder if any positive or negative feedback from critics/fans has ever changed the producers' minds for this show? For me, for example, I don't find the character of Luke all that appealing (nor the actor), and it seems like a lot of fans don't care for him, but I guess the PTB love him/see something in him and so he continues to get his own storyline. So guess they just liked him so much that they kept him around post-Rayna. I do hope that the miserable character of Lindsay is out of there sooner rather than later.
  15. Have no idea how filming tv shows works, but if she's back at work by mid/late Nov, wondering if they couldn't film her scenes then and insert them as needed into those later episodes? Again, no idea how late they can film scenes then insert them into an otherwise completed show, so just curious. Am sure that would be very challenging for writers/editors...
