  1. Thoughts on contestants for week 3 (in alphabetical order): Adam & Jenna - thought it was nice to feel molded minds inside of the contemporary cage, allowing one to be momentarily trapped. Opening out into the studio, thought Adam continued to draw out the necessary raw emotion and that he was able to deliver to the end. While the movements seemed/felt a bit angular (Len), thought he was nonetheless moved by the package and that it showed in his thought-provoking performance. Cuing Adam's tapping shoulder, thought the jiving couple immediately gave off a 60's diner vibe and that it was nice to see a wild/carefree side of Adam. Moments like the mischievous sightseeing pose, timely up/down bouncing and gravity defying splits, seemed to showcase a freedom to the choreography, making the couple come off even more personable and relatable. While he should be careful not to overextend his long, free arm (and to better express his free hand a bit), thought this week was a nice opportunity that allowed him to blend in his emotions/fun personality, into the dance steps/technique itself, and how nice it will be to see how he can continue to build off of this exploratory week. Josh & Sharna - thought this was his best week so far. Nice to see how better centered he was in the contemporary performance, and that he had better balance in the spins this time around. Thought the combination of a slow music, long, languid movements, his natural strength, and his affinity to create statuesque poses all suited Josh and helped Sharna to create a moving, dream-like contemporary performance. Think she should continue using those assets/advantages moving forward into the finale. Also thought his salsa showed improvement, especially in his posture, as he was more upright relative to his week 1 cha cha. Felt as if he enjoyed the salsa performance, as the very short, compact movements also seemed to better suit his body and style as well. Thought it was also nice to see how Sharna once again used his natural strength into the salsa with great effect. Think Josh also has an unusual ability to feel/paint the music with his hands/finger (week 1 cha cha) in the air, as it seems to leave a streaking energetic mark when passing over the music during the routine. Looking forward to how Josh builds upon a nice, successful week as well. Tonya & Sasha - thought Tonya had nice arm styling in the rumba, and agree that her lines are getting better with better overall motion (Bruno). Liked the weightless quality and freedom of the spin towards the end, as she showed similar moments throughout her rumba as well. Thought she made a nice effort to connect with Sasha and the music and how she was able to cary that out well towards the very end. Agree a bit with the lack of hip action (Len, Burno); an alemana seemed to be slowly developing to one's delight, only to be slightly truncated at a key moment. Despite this and her struggle with learning the cha cha, thought Tonya still gave it her best ability in the dance-off. Thought she gave her very best in the cuban breaks and check sections and made a concerted effort to sell the performance through her lively facial expression. Still think maybe in the latin she can match the enthusiasm and exuberance of Sasha just a bit, but think she'll continue to build upon this week and to improve moving forward. Congrats to the winners of season 26 DWTS 2018 and wishing them the very best moving forward. Best of luck to all the celebs and looking forward to their dances.
  2. Thoughts on contestants for week 2 (in alphabetical order): Adam & Jenna - thought it was an energetic, bold quickstep that showed plenty of spring in his step, and think its nice to see how watchable the couple still is two weeks into the competition. Despite scheduling demands, thought they used the floor well, showed a bit of acting, and was pleased to see how Adam had a bit of a showman vibe to his repertoire. In between the leg slide and mini-jumping jete, thought the stolen glances in hold revealed something special between the couple as well. Maybe the upper body could be a bit calm, with a bit more shaping from the sternum to the top of his head for more body contact in hold. Though his hand behind Jenna's back could be a bit closed, thought it was nice to see how flexible his legs were in the routine, and that maybe a split on the floor could possibly make its way around the corner. Nonetheless, think the couple should continue what they're doing, and to add in new layers to their performance every week. Chris & Witney - thought it was nice to watch a modern Shakesperean Viennese Waltz performance unfold, and felt Witney penned the choreography well, as she sprinkled in moments of shadow, dips, and stretching out in hold among the traditional steps. Thought the staging, storytelling, insightful package all created a positive synergistic effect on their overall performance, and think it left an even positive impression of the couple as a whole. Agree that Chris improved this week, as he was better able to blend together steps, to display better musicality, and to fill in the space of the music; there seems to be a honesty to his dance that draws one to his performance. Still think he can extend/rotate his arms a bit more when out of hold (to be free in his space, and not to feel constricted), to look a bit to the corners of the studio in hold (not the ceiling), and to create a bit of a leftward pull on his body (with head a bit to the left) in his natural turns. Nonetheless, feel this is a nice partnership that's working and thriving and think they should continue to strive moving forward. Mirai & Alan - thought the ending of the Disney field trip was a great segue into their foxtrot performance, as it allowed one to share/relive in Mirai's romanticism of Disney from her past down to the present. As soon as the genteel rise/fall of the feather step surfaced, followed by the timely fallaway in hold, thought all was going to be well in the studio as the couple didn't disappoint. Thought Alan did a nice job showcasing Mirai's arms, as she wrapped the music well with nice fluidity and musicality throughout. In addition, thought the mini acting vignettes, the control of the beautiful slows, the nice extension in her legs and the soft knees in pivots all contributed to a nice, magical experience. Think she still struggles a bit with finding her footing whenever going through a double arm underturn, but manages to keep up with the routine nonetheless. Like how Mirai keeps high expectations for herself, and looking forward to what the couple can do different this week, to continue keeping the audience even more entertained. Tonya & Sasha - thought it was a light, breezy quickstep, and that it was nice to see from the rehearsal footage to the performance, how good her conditioning seems to be. Nice to see her on the balls of the feet throughout, the promenade runs/lock showing a nice sync together in hold, and how well she matched Sasha's elevation during the assisted aerial kick towards the end. Despite the flurry of steps, thought she also did a good job of juggling with the unexpected bear visitor, while selling the performance with her facial expression and out of hold moments. Thought in her week 1 foxtrot, she showed a bit of a disconnect/independence from Sasha at the very beginning (eventually merging with him later in the performance), but that the judges this week, were keen on picking up on how their was a bit of a give-and-take/reciprocating action with Sasha this time around. Though it may be a work in progress for Tonya to continue ceding a bit more control and to include Sasha, think this week is a positive step in the right direction for the couple and an improvement from last week as well. Watchlist: ------- & ------- Best of luck to all the celebs and looking forward to their dances.
  3. Thoughts on contestants for week 1 (in alphabetical order): Adam & Jenna - thought the couple was locked into the music and that they held one's attention towards the very end. Clean opening outs, well-placed free arm, smooth ronde action; looked sharp, crisp and thought Adam was in control of the dance. Nice to see he has the personality of a performer, extroverted and demanding of attention (not a vain desire for attention, but a genuine need in his life to be happy). Good to see how he kept his enthusiasm contained during the dance; a bit gangly/posey (Len), and maybe rushed the side-by-side section towards the end (just a tiny hair), but thought the unique ending was suitable nonetheless. As they progress, hope he can continue to tell a story through his dances (and to not let his movement turn a bit clinical), to continue to listen to his partner (not to be highly independent), and to be mindful of any frustrations/anger that may arise during intense moments/training. But a nice debut and looking forward to his upcoming dances. Mirai & Alan - nice to see her expressive arms from beginning to end (think it will serve her well moving forward), and thought she looked comfortable in all the lifts (without showing any signs of tension or hesitation). Though she did a nice job circling around on the first platform, thought she started to hit her stride once she skipped towards the second platform (but not before giving the camera a nice tease). Maybe her core was a bit wobbly (feel it should strengthen with time), how she could dig into the floor a bit during the basic side-by-side steps, and how her admirable, well-intentioned head bobbing (Carrie Ann) distracted a bit from the routine. Still think she can project, emote a bit more as she's almost reaching halfway from the screen as well. Though it seems she may have had a strict upbringing/chaotic adolescence growing up (and whose exchange can be very precise if deeply offended), think she can use those challenges as she progresses in the competition. Nonetheless, given Mirai's technical skating background, thought it was nice to see her come out, let loose, have a nice time and to enjoy the moment. Watchlist: ------- & ------- ------- & ------- ------- & ------- Best of luck to all the celebs and looking forward to their dances.
  4. Thoughts on contestants for week 9 (in alphabetical order): Frankie & Witney (Iconic Paso Doble) - liked the appealing change in musical arrangement, the flamenco touch on top and Witney's successful split into Frankie's hold after his attacking knee walks. Enjoyed the engaging paso pyrotechnics that complemented the routine, thought Frankie had the right aggression and dominance at the top to start with, and liked the nice, confident fregolinesque cape work with Witney afterwards. Maybe a bit more shaping in the twist turn section (Len) and to calm the jumpy appels a bit. Though the shoulders seem to be a reoccurring theme in his routines (Bruno), thought Frankie nonetheless tried to carryout the torso shaping throughout to the best of his ability. Nice he had a range of routines (rap, horror, dominance, caricature) to build upon in previous weeks, and looking forward to Frankie building upon them during his freestyle. Jordan & Lindsay (Iconic Jive) - liked how the slick outfit change signified a new, refreshing update of the original jive (Bruno); burst of sustained high energy out onto the stage, unfailing quality of movement from start to finish. Thought it had the technique, bounce, changes of energy, quick and slow actions - all with knees and feet naturally buoyant throughout. Was hoping prior that the double cartwheel could be carried out well with extended, straight legs, and was glad and delighted to see that they were able to do so in the remake as well (Carrie Ann). Think its also nice that they were able to build up to the jive late into the competition, as Jordan's built up stamina played a key role. It was easy to watch, thought Jordan had nice rhythm and agree that their semi-final jive performance safely made it into the annals of DWTS latin routines (Len). Lindsey & Mark (Iconic Tango) - thought it was nice to see the pulsating white lights on top to differentiate the remake from the original. Liked the Argentine touch on stage, her expressive free arm and how she elongates her leg extensions right to her toes. Nice to see the flexibility in the lunges and though her body may have not found the frame comfortable at first, thought she did her best to keep it firm and steady. Maybe a bit more of a cleaner spin once on the floor, and to keep her left hand a bit closed in hold and parallel to the floor. Think its nice that she's partnered with someone who has experience in the finals, and who is also accustomed to the pressure and nuances that come with it. If they find a freestyle routine that suits her character and fits her body type/personality, think they'll have an enjoyable moment on the floor come Monday night. Congrats to the winners of season 25 DWTS 2017 and wishing them the very best moving forward. Best of luck to all the celebs and looking forward to their dances.
  5. Thoughts on contestants for week 8 (in alphabetical order): Frankie & Witney (Alfonso) - thought the routine played a nice, soft homage to Witney's previous dances with Alfonso, and that she modified it nicely to suit Frankie this time around. Thought there was a nice freedom to the movement (without it being wild), and that it had nice rhythm and control. Nice to see flick ball changes, elements of swing at the top and the smooth trio movement around the floor. Think the raised shoulders crept a hair back into the trio (but not like in the Viennese Waltz). Think its nice that Frankie made it this deep in the competition and that he has learned/grown relative to his prior start on DWTS. Still hoping Frankie can connect even more to the music/performance down the line, as he's shown earlier glimpses of that; but a nice trio performance nonethless and looking forward to his dances. Jordan & Lindsay (Corbin) - thought their salsa had the right flavor/exotic ingredients to produce an energetic night club vibe that kept permeating - one pulse after another - throughout the studio; felt it was also the performance from which the audience's mind was wholly connected to and engaged with. Liked the freedom in their movements, how they kept fluid symmetry as trio, and how comfortable/flexible everyone felt to experiment spontaneously during the routine (banter with judge, assisted knee flip section, tongue wag). The sensuous brush up Lindsay's legs, tight confident spins, the ease and organic nature of the lifts/dismounts – it was nice to see how there was no hesitation in their movements, how the routine held one's attention from start to finish, and how everything came into full fruition on the night. Lindsey & Mark (Kristi) - thought their jazz trio captured the Hollywood gloss with the individual spotlight introduction setting the tone nicely. Liked her spin at the top, her nice arm extensions and how she kept the glamorous character until the very end; thought she also did a nice job with the varied, facial expressions to add to the lively routine. Though wished there could've been a breakout moment somewhere in the routine, thought there were still lots of steps that gave off a Broadway charm and feel. Maybe Lindsey could let the movements flow through her long arms a bit more (seems to stop up to her triceps in tiny moments), and to improve a bit on her posture as well. But a bright, nostalgic and uplifting jazz routine and hope she continues to build upon this routine in the weeks to come. ----------------------------------/ ---------- & ---------- ----------------------------------/ Best of luck to all the celebs and looking forward to their dances.
  6. Thoughts on contestants for week 7 (in alphabetical order): Frankie & Witney - thought it chilling to watch Frankie's telekinetic hold over Witney's movements and thoughts; seemed as if he was fascinated by and enjoyed the sinister character. With the lights dim, liked how he seemingly appeared in her mind - the panic in Witney's wailing legs, the desperate punch, Witney's push back, the chaotic violence as Frankie pushed aside the lamp and tossed the table. Seemed like living a nightmare within a nightmare, and towards the end, felt a bit trapped inside of Witney's mind as she struggled to grasp a sense of reality; with the lamp and table neatly back in place, was she imaging things or did the paranoia really take place. Jordan & Lindsay - thought the use of the troupe gave Jordan an even more stronger, powerful image as he moved around the floor; liked the attitude and thought the attack was there. Nice to see Jordan showing a different side to his personality and how invested in the moves he was; maybe because he was too invested, thought there were rare moments where he got a bit carried away with the character and lost a hair of artistry (but nothing to detract from the strong performance). Thought his chest could inflate/open up at key moments but that he managed to convey through the correct aggression. Like the use of the red skirt throughout, but wished it could've remained towards the end to keep the paso doble flavor intact. Nonetheless, thought it was a dramatic routine and look forward to their upcoming dances. Lindsey & Mark - the paso doble seemed a bit unusual, but thought there were elements in the routine that made the creative concept work. Thought Lindsey enjoyed the knee walks and that she carried out the twist turns well. For somone with long arms, thought she shaped them well, keeping them disciplined in the paso doble, and that for the most part, it didn't detract from the performance. Felt for her everytime she raised her arms to shape her torso, and hope the pain becomes manageable for next week. Skirtwork looked nice (maybe a bit more volume) and thought she could've shaped the Spanish line at the end with a bit more refinement. But liked the fitting end to the routine and hope for the best with her recovery. ----------------------------------/ ---------- & ---------- ----------------------------------/ Best of luck to all the celebs and looking forward to their dances.
  7. Thoughts on contestants for week 6 (in alphabetical order): Frankie & Witney - thought the production was unique and eye-catching and that Frankie had a lot of freedom to carry out his moves in his jazz number. Thought there were many nice side-by-side moments and that Frankie danced well with his sharp arm movements throughout (including adjusting the timing of a back step midway). Maybe a bit unusual to see Frankie out of sync with Witney in moments, and that the choreography got off to a nice surprising start, but seemed a little unsure at times afterwards. But thought the timing of the troupe was nice, as it infused even more life into the routine, and seemed to of given Frankie a bit more confidence in his moves. Thought they both fit the character of the dance and look forward to their upcoming dances. Jordan & Lindsay - agree that the routine felt as if Jordan never left the comfort/pain of his loved one from the space of his mourning arm chair. Liked the use of the white ribbon, as it brought to life a white angelic figure seemingly from his dream-like state. Confident spins, soft hip action in the opening outs, expressive sliding doors; thought Jordan did a nice job showing off Lindsay, and making the overall routine look even more lyrical and impactful. Perhaps they met one rainy evening outside of a window diner, fell in love, got married, only to get the unfortunate news about her terminal condition during the slow pivots. Liked the emotional connection to the music and to each other, and thought it was a beautiful, touching rumba that took one away on a lifetime journey. Lindsey & Mark - thought Mark's insatiable drive to drill into the corpse's arm set the graphic mood and tone for the routine. Liked how Lindsey came to life, readjusting her head, wrists and fingers, all the while carrying out nice Argentine tango steps (maybe heads could be a bit closer in hold). Thought every move looked and felt calculated, programmed – as it should be – but soon as Lindsey pushed Mark away (and started taking the lead), thought it was a bit unsettling to watch the slow transformation into a soulless, semi-human take place. Felt the carnal passion and intensity started to show, as they got into one spontaneous lift after another, celebrating her freedom and emancipation. By the very end, it made one wonder about the status of the creature's transformation, and the uncertainty it poses as it looked beyond the outside walls of the dark lab. ----------------------------------/ ---------- & ---------- ---------- & ---------- ----------------------------------/ Best of luck to all the celebs and looking forward to their dances.
  8. Thoughts on contestants for week 4 (in alphabetical order): Frankie & Witney - liked the digital pyrotechnics and thought that it gave the routine a sparkling, bright, pristine feel to the quickstep. Tapping up/down the stairs, thought his frame looked nice in hold (Len) and that he moved well around the floor with Witney; liked how the routine didn't come off restrictive and closed, but rather open and free-flowing as well. Maybe the past injuries prevented him from maintaining a closer, shaped hold (back) and that the promenade zigzags could've been carried out a bit in front of Witney (ankle). But thought it was an interesting routine and hope he continues to deliver equally in his upcoming latins as well. Jordan & Lindsay - thought that the contemporary dance looked original, different and that it seems Lindsay has a history (and experience) in this dance style; steps seemed to germinate from one another naturally and that it flowed well, shadowing the lyrics with effortless ease. Liked the jubilant moment as Jordan held a weightless Lindsay swimming through the air with joy, relief, and a sense of release. The vertical leap reaching into the dark, unknown, the subtle bicycle tear drop – thought the dance captured Jordan's loneliness, pain, while at the same time, showing the rebirth of a new beginning in his life. Thought it was nice to see how he openly and willingly embraced that bright chapter moving forward as well. Lindsey & Mark - liked the soft quality of Lindsey's movement as she nicely conveyed and expressed her feelings towards her father. Felt as if the audience got a glimpse during one of her contemplative moments, as an innocent scene faded into thoughts of a wishful reunion with her father, with the floating dance quality highlighting the heavenly nature of her thinking. Though maybe a bit more content would've been nice (perhaps a disappearing fleckerl in hold during the music pause), thought it was nice to see her drifting in/out of her dream-like state; liked how she seems to doubt/convince herself about the authenticity of the wishful dream several times, only to have her father's presence linger with her to the very end. Vanessa & Maks - thought she showed a vulnerability and that she did a nice job expressing her love for her family through the rumba routine. Liked how her body seems to be made for this style; weightless spins (seems to be her favorite), with extended arms moving into space in the opening outs and sliding doors. Still think there could be a bit more of a liquid quality/feel to the routine, and that she could've lived a bit more in each potential moment during the transitions (and when she ran towards Maks). Overall, thought it was a beautiful, touching rumba and curious to see what the couple has in store next. ----------------------------------/ ---------- & ---------- ----------------------------------/ Best of luck to all the celebs and looking forward to their dances.
  9. Thoughts on contestants for week 3 (in alphabetical order): Frankie & Witney - thought they were in unison at top and that Frankie looked relaxed/at ease carrying out his favorite boyband moves. Nice to see botofogos throughout and promenade runs; good to see Witney being able to express herself (choreography) clearly without any interruptions/blockages. Liked the halo lighting effects as Frankie stole the spotlight midway, dancing with the troupe to relive his boyband fantasy; not too long or short, but enough to get right back into the routine. Think if he can convey his free arm/hands as a stylish extension of his rhythmic body, it would add a bit more flavor to his routines. But a fun samba and liked how his shoulders were a bit more disciplined this week around. Jordan & Lindsay - it was nice to see the comic pages come to life on the floor and that it was an engaging performance to watch. Thought Jordan embraced his superhero X-men persona well at the very top (Bruno), and that they set the initial scene and built the anticipation well. Perhaps the music played a role, but thought the Charleston routine felt a bit on the serious side. Maybe taking on a lighter, comical slant, with kicks being accidentally (and unknowingly made) and bumping hips with the antagonist (and sending them flying), etc, would've fit the style a bit; perhaps like a 3 Stooges/quirky routine, while still keeping all the enticing visual elements. But still thought they showcased a fun, entertaining routine and looking forward to seeing what Jordan will do next. Lindsey & Mark- liked the clever opening bed scene and how Mark paced the choreography without letting the jive music fatigue the performance. Nice to see them skip out, get straight into a jive kick, and thought it was a welcome sight to see the rotating mooch-like chorus steps after being cooped up in bed. Thought it was also nice to see Lindsey's go-go lyric legs strumming along with the vocals (Bruno), and how her body continues to be more disciplined to fit the week's dance style (C.A.). Maybe it would've been nice to see a sneaky breakout side-by-side section during the vocal break. But thought the jive routine was a light, bright affair, and that the organic ending on the bed added to the cheery cohesiveness of the evening's jive performance. Vanessa & Alan - was a bit difficult at first to visually identify Vanessa with the troupe at the top as she blended in well (Len). Though wishing she could've reached out to Alan sooner in hold, thought she was having a fun time with the troupe, and that it was nice to see her up front and center. Think this is important, as Vanessa (performer personality) is someone by nature who has a strong need for attention and appreciation. Whether in training or out in the spotlight, think its essential she is given the continued appreciation she really needs. Its not to assume it's a sign of vain desire for attention, but rather a genuine need in her life; and that if it's filled, she'll continue to be happy. ----------------------------------/ ---------- & ---------- ----------------------------------/ Best of luck to all the celebs and looking forward to their dances.
  10. Thoughts on contestants for week 2 (in alphabetical order): Frankie & Witney - thought Frankie wholly bought into the Witney's cha cha choreography, and that it was nice to see his confidence and natural freedom emerge from his body after two consecutive dances in hold. Liked how he commanded the stage with the two pros on top, and played off of a sassy Witney with ease throughout; liked how Carrie Ann made a proper assessment of Frankie week 1 as well. Still think he'll continue to hone in on the technique (better forward locks; keeping palm face down/foot placement care when opening out) and to watch his rising shoulders (all dances). But most definite a fun, pleasant surprise and curious to see how he progresses in the weeks ahead. Jordan & Lindsay - thought their samba had a special theme/vibe that was unique – unfamiliar - yet whose pleasant aroma piqued one's senses (Bruno). Liked Jordan's flexibility on top, the ensuing batucadas, then straight into the samba runs (maybe back leg could straighten a bit). Thought it was nice that Lindsay weaved in plenty of samba content throughout to appease all three judges. Agree that the pointed nature/feel of his feet (esp at the top), gave the routine a bit of a light, fluffy look to the dance, instead of the desired feel/look of Jordan digging into the wooden floor. But thought it was nice to experience the foreign, exquisite warmth of the samba, making one wish that the dance could have continued on a bit further. Lindsey & Mark - nice to see Lindsey complementing the perky percussion instruments at the top, and thought the style of the salsa dance and music fit her body's personality/movement the best. Wrapping the vocals with her nonchalant hands, and weaving her flexible legs with the beats - thought there were moments where her body was like a latin instrument playing alongside the lively salsa band. Agree that though the salsa routine lacked any staging/props, the spontaneous dancing alone was able to conjure up images of a crowded floor of illuminating salsa dancers moving to the club's finest night beats. Hoping Lindsey can continue to build upon this routine, and to make her body feel more comfortable with each of the respective dance styles. Vanessa & Maks - enjoyed the smoky foxtrot opening on stage and thought Vanessa breathed to life the sultry 40's nightclub genteel dancer with ease and sophistication. The natural curvature of her body pose, convincing arms and instinctive affinity for the camera – thought she set the scene well for the next anticipating moments off stage. Maybe she could brush the floor with the balls of her feet moving backwards; keep her topline, head/neck slightly aligned in the pivots a bit. Though brief, fleeting thoughts of a past dancer in another lifetime flashed in the back of one's mind, enjoyed the cheery glance she shared with the judges midway and thought she was having an enjoyable, fun-filled time on the floor. ----------------------------------/ ---------- & ---------- ----------------------------------/ Best of luck to all the celebs and looking forward to their dances.
  11. Thoughts on contestants for week 1 (in alphabetical order): Jordan & Lindsay - thought they had nice chemistry, and that the interplay on stage, the controlled promenade hold/head snap once off stage, was an immediate attention grabber. Nice to see how he felt the music with his lyrical free arm coming down the stairs, and that he did a good job of slightly recovering from his hip hop tendency on stage. Maybe a bit more compact hold for Jordan towards the middle/end, and to be a hair careful with his uptight shoulders in the turns. But thought it was nice to see how he carried the weight of the song and character, making the routine an overall enjoyable and believable one. Lindsey & Mark - thought it was a fun cha cha routine, and that they got off to a nice start with an initial burst of energy that propelled them throughout. Nice to see snap in her feet and legs and enjoyed the side by side section (maybe a hair long). Think she can have an even freer, relaxed body to enjoy the cha cha rhythms even more, and to maybe work a bit on a better body position (head and chin sticks forward a bit, perhaps from violin posture). Nice to see the flexibility in her legs and hope to see the couple continue to cater to the tastes of all three judges moving forward. Vanessa & Maks - thought her week 1 cha cha was a confident debut, and that her personality shined through from the raised eyebrow to the finale fist pump. Her leg check, flirty lock steps and timely arms hitting the beat on cue near the judges table – thought she used the floor and moved around well with Maks. Think by nature she is someone who is a performer, someone who enjoys/thrives being in front of the camera, as those qualities were evident in the performance. Interesting to see she had a strict upbringing; think she has the ability to carry out sensuous routines (Argentine tango, rumba, etc) in the weeks ahead. ----------------------------------/ ---------- & ---------- ---------- & ---------- ----------------------------------/ Best of luck to all the celebs and looking forward to their dances.
  12. Thoughts on contestants for week 9 (in alphabetical order): Normani & Val - think Normani has an uncanny ability to resurrect a specific time period/style, and that her blues-inspired jazz routine allowed one to get lost into the soulful, historic celebratory night. Complete with a tapping spiral staircase, timeless vocal/band tunes and street surroundings decorated by excited New Orleans locals, thought all the rich genre elements fed off one another to create a magical number. It was nice to see how the audience was a natural, cohesive extension of the performance, and how it didn't delineate itself from Normani and Val. Perhaps it was her ability to confront and reconcile with her countless past traumas, but thought those difficulties gave her jazz performance an extra rare, sublime touch, that wasn't present in last week's jive trio number. While carrying out the jazz routine, it was also nice to see all the various positive qualities emanating from her during the performance (judges). Think she is someone who will continue to learn, who has a lot of experience/knowledge (and for such a young age), and that its nice to see that the entertainment industry has someone special like her to be around with for years to come. Rashad & Emma - the whispering hips at the top, Rashad's quiet, electric touch up Emma's arms, the soft cucarachas steps that developed afterwards - thought the opening was an expressive segue into their romantic rumba. It was nice to see Rashad's live arms moving with his body, the confident shapes he produced as he held a driving Emma across the floor, and the attentiveness/care with which he showed to her throughout. Thought there was a genuine sense of trust and subtle elegance that emerged even more from their early, emotive Viennese Waltz. Maybe his center could've been a bit lower, but thought that it didn't detract from the overall weightlessness of their dance. When seeing how comfortable Emma looked hitting fan position/stretching out, her convincing cradled wish to dance, and the gentle touch to draw a pondering chin back into hold, thought Emma felt and visualized the music well and that her imaginary vision came alive on the night. In line with their show stopping quickstep, its nice to see that they are peaking at the right moment, and how they carried out two quality, back-to-back routines to showcase their place in the final. Congrats to the winners of season 24 DWTS 2017 and wishing them the very best moving forward. Best of luck to all the celebs and looking forward to their dances.
  13. Thoughts on contestants for week 8 (in alphabetical order): Normani & Val - perhaps it was the contrast from her traumatic contemporary, or the slick manner from which Alan glided out from underneath, or the silky smooth chicken walks at the top; but thought Normani's trio jive showcased a sense of newfound freedom to her movement and performance. It was nice to be able to see the sharp, downward pointed kicks and thought (for the first time imo) she really connected with Val (and Alan), especially in the section where they slid past each other as soon as the “alive” chorus struck. Building upon their Argentine tango, thought they hit a sweetspot in their American pastime storytelling, flirty chemistry as a fun trio and selection of vernacular jive steps. Though the kickball changes could be a bit crisper, its nice to see the growth and how their rapport is coming into fruition even more through their performances. Rashad & Emma - liked the sliding MoTown jive entrance; thought the side by side kicks, spot turn, and hat choreography at the top was attention grabbing, and that he did a nice job of staying on his toes with crisp feet retractions. Think as time went on he got a bit flat-footed and continued with the flat kicks from his dance-off last week. But liked the stop'n go/spins, the twisting play on the building lyric afterwards, the teasing reel on the fun bridge and how Emma reintroduced the timely side by side kick section again towards the end. Still think that if he marries his individual flair with the needed style technique, he'll be able to create even more fun and magical moments on the floor. But a fun jive routine nonetheless, and hope he continues to improve to chip through the ten ceiling consistently. Simone & Sasha - thought there were moments where Simone was giving out a fun, energetic feel from her foxtrot and that it was nice how it was picked up on (Len); on the other hand, felt that it came out in interrupted spurts, such that it wasn't sustained from beginning to end (C.A, Julianne). Nonetheless, think its nice that she is trying her very best to take the judges advice on board. Still think the performance element may probably require a poignant, personal experience - on the magnitude of her most memorable year – to be able to register live. Still think what makes her different and special is her Olympic background/experience (the sacrifices, disappointments, pain, regrets, triumphs); if she can tap into those rare journey moments - moments many may never experience/feel in their life - and recreate that world on the floor, it may bring a different, new dimension to her dancing. Best of luck to all the celebs and looking forward to their dances.
  14. Thoughts on contestants for week 7 (in alphabetical order): Normani & Val - thought the opening set an elegant, sophisticated scene and mood to the dance. Liked how sensual she looked with her arms/hands and feet at the top, as she brushed the lyrics to showcase her natural affinity and feel of the music; seems as if there's a rich quality to her movement everytime she creates lines. Nice to see her indecision coming down the stairs, as she pondered throughout with picturesque leaps, fine shades of swiveling ochos and whipping leg actions. Maybe she could've kept the legs a bit more crisper and to lean in a bit towards Val in hold, as he was inviting her towards him. But in keeping with the style, it was nice to see how she kept everything inside of herself - holding her true feelings towards her potential lover - right until the very end. Rashad & Emma - resurrected from the dead, it was nice to see how he slowly morphed to show the shaping of his live body; liked how he opened his chest and widened it out to highlight his power and presence throughout. Thought he took the instructions well from Emma as he was making a real effort to show the arc and curvature in his body. Maybe in the twists he could've shaped a bit better as they rounded the judges table (seemed a bit forced), and to produce an even better frame so he could lead Emma through the chasse capes afterwards. Was a bit worried that he may appear blocky prior to the routine, but thought it was good to see that he took the necessary time to undergo the preparation, to produce the relevant shaping needed for his paso doble. Simone & Sasha - from the flickering black and white screen, funny acting moments, all the way to her wacky facial expressions, thought the Charleston was an erriely satisfying routine, with Simone showing great characterization throughout. Nice to see how they continued to carry out the deft acrobatics and how effortless it looked live without any hesitating moments. Wished maybe she could've stayed a bit more on the balls of her feet, to give the routine and movement an even more creative bounce and quirky flair (like Sasha). Though hoping she can continue to dig deep to fill the studio with her feelings/emotions, it was nice to see how they were in symmetry, and how the stylistic period details in the routine made the dance a visual treat for everyone to watch and enjoy. Best of luck to all the celebs and looking forward to their dances.
  15. Thoughts on contestants for week 6 (in alphabetical order): Nancy & Artem - the power and drama she showed in the paso doble was nice to see. Though the arm resistance/shaping would've helped, thought she did a nice job with the skirt work, showing the flowing movement and volume throughout. Think maybe she needed to lift her rib cage and stretch as her body seemed a bit soft, and to bring her hips forward to create curvature. Think if she brings the same abandonment/enjoyment, of dancing with her children in the comfort of her home into the studio, it should assist with her performances even more. Nonetheless, thought it was nice to see how comfortable she looked attacking the music, when dancing in brief unison with the matadors (all facing the camera) towards the very end. Normani & Val - thought she looked in her element; it was nice to see that she wasn't too stiff or slow, but rather very rhythmical throughout the routine. Good to see arm movements, quick footwork, seamless lifts/dismounts and a sense of tease and fun going on. Think she has nice hips and was hoping to see her keep the base of her feet small at the beginning, so she could carry out even more nice salsa steps. Still think if Val continues to be flexible and works a bit more consistently with Len, he can draw even more votes towards both him and his partner. Nonetheless, thought her salsa was a constant flow of sensuality, and that it was a smooth performance that was carried out in a natural way. Rashad & Emma - thought it was a welcoming Motown stage scene that showcased Rashad's natural flair and highlighted a stylish Emma to the floor. The intensity when fixed in hold at the top was beautiful, and thought he exaggerated the topline well. Despite a transition gap hold and a slight tug of war, thought he did a nice job in trying to stay glued to Emma in the turns throughout. Thought he had a nice compressed hold with fingers past Emma's spine (first half of routine), but maybe he began to assume a bit of a wider ballroom hold as time went on. Nonetheless, its nice to see how Rashad is making a concerted effort to follow the steps and how he does his very best when carrying out each of his weekly performances. Simone & Sasha - thought the opening scene was a nice start, and that she did a good job of creating a sensuous feel (nice segue into rumba, Argentine tango, etc). Agree there was lots of content and thought it was a competent, clean samba. Felt maybe she danced it a bit light/fluffy on the floor; perhaps digging deep into the floor with the bending of the knees (promenade runs), and moving the hips forward/back (stationary samba walks) would've helped a bit. Think also having varied, real-time facial expressions would also engage the audience/viewers even more. Nonetheless, thought she gave a fun performance and look forward to seeing her progression through the weeks. Best of luck to all the celebs and looking forward to their dances.
