  1. Maybe they are fans of Gray's Anatomy. Meredith Gray and Seattle Grace Hospital
  2. So many assumptions in this thread El Salvador has Universal health care. In the early 2000's it was in bad shape as a right wing regime wanted to privatize it. Only 60% or so of the people were covered. Now that number is around 85%. It has the lowest birth rate in Latin America. Immunization rates are above 90% and in some cases are higher than in the USA. 73% of women were using birth control as of 2008 . On the human development index it falls into the category of medium. This is not the El salvador of the 80's... Not that real issues are not still there either.
  3. Lots of Catholics use birth control. It's one of the most broken rules. I don't know a single Catholic who doesn't use it
  4. That was the best dinner party since the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
  5. Doeesn't the police report state that the kids were hit with a rod?
  6. There are bibles in the UAE, where the city of Dubai is. There are also various Christian churches Not all middle Eastern Countries are Muslim States Conversely, many European countries have a an offical religion. For example the UK, Denmark and Norway There are large Christian and even Jewish populations in many middle eastern countries
  7. It was a detonater. When he went west his bombs had no detonators. Martin unwittingly supplied them. That bombing really happened but the truth of it did not come out until the Stasi files were opened in the 90's
  8. I think she believes he is using the Trabi to smuggle in books from the west
  9. I get that, really, I do.. I don't like wakes or pictures. But , again, it's a cultural thing. You would love the Tajora people of Indonesia. THey remove their dead from the grave annually and parade them around. I'm currently a student of History and Anthropology, so I have learned some unusual stuff.
  10. Random thought while watching this show. I should have saved all of my high wasted pants from the 80's. Who knew they would be back?
  11. Clearly LuAnn's rules are, sleep with a married man, cool, say the F word, totally, like, uncool.
  12. I really hope that everyone on this thread will be cool... not like, uncool, while we discuss this episode That would suck.. Team Heather on this one
  13. But we interfered and influenced them in so many ways, especially during the cold war, that many of them are, in the modern era, arguably USA made and backed
  14. If it is culturally acceptable to see an actual dead body(wake), I don't see why seeing a picture of said dead body ,would be any worse, except that we have been enculturated to view it as such
  15. Sarcasm. I usually see it said jokingly by people who like Obama and see him constantly being blamed for things.
  16. I think I knew I was an Atheist while I was pretty young. When you are raised a nice Catholic Girl though, it's not easy to come to grips with not believing. For years I explored other religions ,looking for God, before converting to Judaism 15 years ago. Eventually, I realized that while I like the beliefs of Judaism, I just don't believe in God.. To people who do, I say. There are many supposed gods. You believe in only 1 of them and I believe in one less than you. Funny thing though is that I still feel absolutely Jewish and I fit in quite well with my many Jewish atheist friends. And I'm very pround of the 3 caring conscientious atheists I have raised.
  17. Telling me you are a good Christian means nothing. As if Christians have a corner or morality. Good Christians are no better than good Jews, Good Muslims, Good Buddhists or good Atheists. Goodness isn't tied to religion and I'm tired of people assuming it is Disclaimer, I not saying you guys do this ..The Duggars do
  18. As someone with a lot of experience with sickness, I need to cut Meghan's stepdaughter some slack. My family has illness spades, wih my hiv status and then, in 2007, with my husbands an aortic dissection. He had the same kind that killed John Ritter, and which kills 90% of the people who have it. He was in the hospital for 3 months, and we didn't know if he would survive. He was, and still is not in great health, and lives with a lot of pain. We have 3 kids. 2 of them were sweet as heck and so good. My 3rd, my son, who was 12 at the time did not handle it so well. Combine dealing with a sick parent and the teenage years, and it was a recipe for disaster. MY sweet loving kid, became angry and sullen, at his father. And believe me this kid worshipped his dad. I was heartbreaking. He just couldn't deal. He was in pain though. I think Meghan's stepdaugther is in pain. Kids in this situation feel anger and pain and they don't know how to deal with it. I've been told it is very common for kids to be angry at the sick parent. Heck, Adults don't deal with this stuff well. I'm not excusing it. I don't even know if this is the case with the stepdaughter, but my own life experiences cause me to give her the benefit of the doubt
  19. It's all about cultural mores though isn't it? Death Photography has been around for a very very long time. You feel the way about this the way I feel about wakes/viewing. I would never have one. They are common in Ireland but almost obsolete in England. There are countries and cultures where behavior like Vicki's is expected and the norm..
  20. I thought it was Montecello also. I haven't been to that, but I have been to the building that influenced it. Andrea Palladio's Rotunda in Vicenza, Italy
