I feel the need to defend pronouncing Clayton as “Clay-En”. I’m upstate NY born and raised. My first job after college was in Washington, DC. I remember talking about buttons with a co-worker, and I pronounced it “bu-uns”. She had no idea what I was talking about, and I had no idea I pronounced it oddly. To this day I say “bu-uns” and “Clay-un” and will not apologize for it. I’m not stupid, it’s just the regional pronunciation.
