  1. I think 1/8 is about right percentage-wise to the US population for African American. Thing is there are more Hispanics in the US but they are rarely featured on this show. I think the only one was America Ferrera.
  2. Wow, I lurk here and now I'm glad I do because if ad hominem posts like this are tolerated, I'd never survive here. What else but personal experience would one use to form an opinion on this? Why is that "over the top"? I do it myself all the time. I didn't think there was something wrong with it. People can notice tendencies if they are aware enough to notice them. I agree with the opinion that Americans in general won't take to certain foreign foods no matter what. The only exotic foods we tend to open up to are the ones that don't offend our core taste preferences. I think every culture has core taste preferences. Someone has probably written about them. I read somewhere once that Americans don't tend to like bitter foods among other things. And just because we've opened up to some exotic cuisines in recent years doesn't mean there's hope for all of them. I agree that some foreign cuisines are gaining in popularity, however I don't think they are popular enough right now to get the kind of ratings they'd need to be on Food Network. And I think that's really the point here. I love this YouTube:
  3. Taking my response to this to the Race and Ethnicity on TV thread. - http://forums.previously.tv/topic/2738-race-ethnicity-on-tv/page-14
  4. About Tony, agreed, but Sarcasm doesn't translate well in writing.
  5. I agree. It's not Jay himself, it's the way he presents. He sounds like a used car salesman on a commercial, and sounds just about as sincere. He also doesn't make me want to buy what he's selling. I like Eddie and Dom just about evenly although I am not crazy about anyone this year. The last time I liked someone enough to root for them was when Jeff Mauro was on. Jeff can sound like a used car salesman sometimes but whatever he's selling I'm buying!
  6. I have never been able to bring myself to watch Giada because I find her hard to take. I also wish I liked her a little better. I am watching her show in Italy because I want to see Italy, and of course the food. I think Aunt Raffy is a scream! I love how she puts Giada in her place. That alone makes it worth it.
  7. I've been catching up with this on On Demand - I love David Bromstad and was happy to find out that HGTV is still utilizing him. Martha is very familiar. I think she was a contestant on a season of "Design Star" several years ago. Both she and Nicole have skin that looks very sun damaged, though. I'm not surprised to find out I'm not alone in not being able to get used to the whiny sing-song voices of Lucy and Daphne. They sound like female Gomer Pyles sped up to a higher pitch. Just the thought of that is revolting.... I was relieved to find out that both David B. and Nicole wanted the female duo's kitchen to win. I feel like they were robbed and don't like the way the show is formatted to have one judge do the choosing. I also thought the Queens couple (Nick and Sarah) should have won the bedroom challenge. I thought their bedroom looked like it came out of a decorator's catalog. The winning room was OK but not my favorite. Even though they are supremely annoying, I hope Lucy and Daphne take this, they deserve it.
