    Did he fall or collapse?

    I *think* he slipped and fell, although with production tricks, who knows?  I hope he's okay as they're my favorites (so far), but it sure didn't look good.

    Could someone who knows more about 'tepee chimneys' please enlighten me?   Brooke's fire looked so cheery and comforting, but it was very small.   Will she only be able to have small fires in order not to burn her wooden chimney, or will she just keep replacing the drying poles with damp ones?  Or maybe this is just a temporary thing?

    Well, we found out the answer to the 'how many hunting items' confusion caused by the lack of proof-reading on the History site.  They can choose more than one hunting item each, but they can't both choose the same one.  Shannon had a gill net and hooks and line, and Jesse has a bow and arrow.

    I think she would have given her husband the soap to carry as it would be lighter than most stuff.

    I bet you're right about that!  She's just one with the soap in my mind.  lol

    She used a old fashioned coffee pot with a spout, holding the lid to drink from the foamy stream...ewww

    That's right!  Thanks!

    It's even pictured on the link upthread about the items etc.

    So is that their choice for a pan?

    So her 5 items are a tarp, an ax, a coffee pot pan (lol), a saw, and SOAP.   He'd better get to camp soon, as I guess that means that she has nothing for fishing or hunting.

  4. Well, I rewatched last night also, and one question we were discussing has been answered.  :)  As Jesse (the hiker from Team Bosdell) was walking along, he mentioned that his brother Shannon would be setting up camp and the gill net.  A bit later, he said that he hadn't yet strung his bow.  So they can chose more than one hunting item.

    So far, they are my favorite team.

    I also noticed that Brooke had a big ax, a tarp, and a saw.  Did she also have a pan or something by the creek?  If so, then her oh-so-important bar of soap would round out her 5 items.

  5. You're right, SRTouch.  We'll have to wait and see.

    If they are allowed only one hunting item per team, I'm giving the side eye to any team who chooses a bow and arrow or a sliñgshot over the fishing choices.   They had to have watched this show and seen how that usually works out (or not)!

    Nope, you're reading it right; farther down, where the items are listed, it says Hunting (Note: only 1 item can be chosen between each pair of participants)

    Thank you!

    So I wonder which it is?

    Is it:

    Quote

    *The Hunting Items are limited to 1 of each item listed per Team.

    or is it:

    Quote

    Hunting (Note: only 1 item can be chosen between each pair of participants)

    History channel?  You now have me totally confused.  lol!

    Something else that jumped out at me, only one hunting item per team.

    You know, that's what I thought it said when I posted it a couple of hours ago, but then I went back and read it again as it didn't make much sense, and what it says is:

    Quote

    *The Hunting Items are limited to 1 of each item listed per Team.

    So I take that to mean that they couldn't choose two gills nets, or two bow and arrow sets...but they could chose more than one hunting item as long as they weren't the same.  ????  Or am I reading this entirely wrong?

    I know that.  What I can't picture is how the hikers are filming themselves from the side as they walk along.  They can't be using anything stationary like a tripod because they're on the move.  Maybe they're just holding the camera out at arm's length but it seems like it would be awkward.

    I agree.  From the looks of it, that's what I think they're doing, though.   I think dealing with the cameras and filming must be one of the most frustrating parts of the whole experience!

    Huh, didn't the ferro rod and the sleeping bags used to be on the 'ten items' list in the previous seasons?  I was just reading here:

    http://preview.history.com/shows/alone/articles/gear-list

    ....and it looks like the ferro rod and the sleeping bags are now listed with all the equipment they are supplied with, like clothing and a toothbrush.  I don't remember them getting a fixed blade knife in this list either, previously.

    Maybe someone with a better memory than I seem to have can answer another question I have.  Didn't some of the food choices used to be 5 pounds?  Now it look like most items are 2 pounds.  No more than 2 food items per person.

    I don't understand how the cameras are picking up the people hiking.  Some of the shots are full face like maybe they're holding them at arm's length but some seem to be shooting from a distance.

    They film themselves on this series.  More than a day of the prep stuff seems to be teaching the contestants how to use the cameras.  They are holding the cameras during the herky-jerky close-ups.  They also have a tripod for their longer distance shots when they're building something or instructing us on fishy sperm sacks.  :)

    Didn't dad make only .3 of a mile on the first day?

    When they showed the location of father and son towards the end of the day, I thought the distance was 9.3 miles.  That would only be .7 miles for the dad.  I thought *that* was bad.  Did the distance say 9.7 miles??

    ~sigh~

    I guess I'll have to watch it again.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    My favorite team from last week wasn't on this episode.  I'm still rooting for the two brothers from a family of nine kids who used to have to provide them food.
    Brook is growing on me, although my husband and I were both yelling at the screen for her to just stand up and the wolf would make an exit.  sheesh.  Her 1st day shelter almost makes me forgive the soap.
    Almost.
    I'm enjoying Alone For Now!
    Same here!
    I thought the young brothers from IL wouldn't last long, but I didn't figure a tap-out quite early on the first day.  That was bad luck.
    How the hell did I miss this? And they are teams? Not sure how I feel about that. I will have to watch the episode on demand.
    I was wondering where you were!   I was afraid you were boycotting the 'team' aspect.  lol!
  12. I've been spending too much time thinking about this exact issue, Quilt Fairy!  Way too much time.  :)
    I have no idea whether or not it was by design, but it sure looks like it's going to shake out that way.  They already have one less choice because of needing two sleeping bags.
    I sure wish we could find a list of who chose what, and it would be great to find out in advance which person took which items.
    Patience is not my strong point.
    Each person per team has 5 of the 10 items. They have to decide before leaving who gets which items.
    Thanks.  Boy, that makes for some really, really tough decisions.   The good decisions and the bad decisions should become apparent quite quickly.   This might be more interesting than I at first thought!
  14. Oh good lord, I'm still thinking.  If the hikers expect to get there in one day, maybe the camp person has at least 8 of the 10 items.  That would really suck for the hiker if it takes them an extended period of time to get there.
    And what hasn't been explained to us yet: Who has all the stuff they are granted?  The clothes, the bear spray, the boat horn thingy, etc.   Does the hiker have to carry his own, or can they pick and choose those items, too?
    Oh, hell's bells.  I think I'm going to watch some sort of real housewives episode and quit ruminating.  :)
