  1. Love Paula's dig! That was my favorite part today, and Whoopie didn't take it well. She did a double take before she launched into her indignant/defensive/bragging response. Paula got a good one in today.
  2. Wait a minute. Just started watching and almost fell off the chair. Obama's speech was for the kids???? What is wrong with Whoopi?? Okay, that was a rhetorical question.
  3. Oh, I remember doing this in high school! I'm older. We lined up against a wall because the wall would protect us from the harmful radiation! Ah, memories. Hope everyone does have a good holiday!
  4. Or telling everyone to blame "those people" and to take it out on "them" by any means possible.
  5. I just want to thank everyone for their posts. It's on here in a few minutes, and I always know what I'm in store for and can laugh as I remember comments on this board. It helps if I am yelling at the TV!
  6. My math is pathetic, but if her brother was born in 1949 and is her younger brother, wouldn't that make her closer to the 66 mentioned above? Adding that her brother's age at time of death is listed as 65, but I can't believe that she is older than that. Strange numbers.
  7. Yes! I thought I heard her say that. Well, a little cough, a little sneeze...
  8. Aww, thank you. All I could think of was that she spilled the beans! Joy's not there again? Just started here.
  9. Jumper sage, I just read your reply and wanted to give you a standing ovation. I understand and agree with everything you said!! Thank you.
  10. Ari333, the schools are limited in what they can do now. The idea of taking away a driver's license would be a good one, but the schools have no control over that. There are many kids under the driving age who are just as defiant as the older ones. Ironically, this discussion makes me miss my kids. Many times the kids with whom we battle the most, are the ones we end up liking the most. If you can handle the situation one on one, it's better for everyone. The schools have to be able to provide more discipline than they are allowed to do now.
  11. Kenz, thank you. It was definitely difficult to appear to be calm, and I did not always succeed. I would love to hear the teacher's side of it, too. Bubbetv, in the beginning of my career, corporal punishment was applied to kids. Toward the end, we could not even tap any kids on the shoulder. The administration told everyone that the teachers/school could be sued. There were some parents who did sue teachers throughout the district for mistreating their children. The punishment that could be given is suspension, which doesn't really mean much. The worst would be expulsion, but that would have to be if the kid hit the teacher, or sold drugs on campus.
  12. Uh, one more comment, and I'll shut up. It takes a LONG time to to learn how to try to de-escalate these situations, but there are many methods that we try to use to avoid a blow-up on either side. It doesn't always work, but we can never respond in kind to the student. The kids lose respect for teachers who lose it in the classroom, too, so everyone loses. Apparently, five years away from the classroom has not diminished my memories of some of those incidents. Going to breathe deeply to lower my blood pressure now. Sorry for the rant.
  13. I haven't heard the View's comments yet, but I have to respond to this comment. I retired after teaching for 40 years in junior and senior high schools. We saw the same defiance and more from some students. They are teenagers who don't think past the moment, and they cannot appear weak to their friends. When they have an audience, some of the kids feel they have to save face, no matter what consequences they may suffer. The teachers might be furious, might be cussing the "child" out in their mind, might have images of what they would like to do in response, but we know that we are adults, so we count to a million before acting. When we get home, we might yell at the walls, floor, chairs, but we have to remain calm in class. Despite any of the teen attitudes, I loved them and loved teaching. Meant to add that there is no excuse for what that officer did, and I flinch each time I see it.
  14. In addition to all the other mistakes that they never correct, they all chimed in to say that Jorge Ramos was from Telemundo. As far as I can recall, Univision was the station fighting Trump.
  15. Joy is the only one I have seen who is able to deal with Coulter and use humor while doing it. Her interviews are the only time I can stand listening to Coulter, too.
  16. As a retired teacher, I had to laugh at Carson's recommendation of a diversionary tactic. Our school discussed the idea of teachers having guns years ago, and we imagined a scenario in which the person with a gun would burst into the room. We decided that we would tell the gunman to wait a few minutes while we unlocked the cabinet to retrieve the gun. The issue of being able to aim a gun was also considered. We concluded that it was a dangerous, insane idea , and hoped nobody would bring up the idea again. I still believe the concept belongs in the film, Dr. Strangelove.
  17. Cosmocrush, not sure if I messed up the post within a post, I'm still laughing at your original creations! Cannot believe she actually said that with a straight face and kept thinking I didn't hear her correctly! Yup, I messed it up.
  18. Thanks, Medicine Crow! I love coming here to feel validated after I yell at the TV.
  19. Delurking to comment. Paula's response to Kevin McCarthy's speaking problem: Just because someone can't speak doesn't mean they can't govern. Just checking to make sure I heard that correctly. So glad this forum is here as I have lurked ever since the beginning.
  20. Thanks, breezy424. So many words have begun in one culture and traveled to another one to become part of everyone's vernacular. I wondered why Heather's use of two words bothered people so much. It is fascinating to read everyone's comments, though. I have laughed at the quick wit of so many people, too!
  21. Lurking since this forum was created and just joined to make a quick comment. I enjoy reading all the observations because they are all so well thought out. The remarks about Heather's use of mama, holla or other words are what made me want to join. There are so many words that people have already appropriated and used in everyday conversation and have become part of everyone's culture. Phrases such as 24/7, my bad are ones that come to my mind as I write. These phrases have made the transition from one culture to another, and nobody seems to mind or object to the uses of the words. This was just a quick observation that I wanted to interject into the discussion of Heather's language.
