  1. A couple of things. First, I noticed that the people who were looking to have kids soon, Woody, Brett and Amelia, were not the ones that would necessarily be the primary caregivers of that child. As a woman who's relatively kid-agnostic, I'd only be willing to have kids with someone ready to do the majority of the work knowing that I'd still end up doing more, but hopefully not all. I can see Amani, who wasn't ready to declare herself in love, not wanting to get pregnant in a rush either. I know their are good and bad times to get pregnant in a lot of specialties, so Amelia may be thinking of that, but the effect of COVID on the tourism and entertainment industry is going to make Bennett's career plans more interesting. Second, does anyone with experience with Black hair know if Amani and Woody could have done their own hair? Because, they were both looking good for the end of lockdown. Did they delay the counseling sessions until things has eased up a little?
  2. Thirteen minutes into the podcast and I finally clue into the joke behind the Racism Watchdog twitter account. I'm just going to go sit facing the corner for a while and feel ashamed.
  3. Did Tim Horton's just manage to get product placement in a show shot in New York?
  4. I'm not sure how I feel about Amy. I think it's because she teaches at a school of design, so she probably has a lower threshold for immature affectedness combined with people who freak out when "things aren't FAIR!" and there's still a deadline. I don't know how good a teacher she is, so this could also be her fault, but I can see her point.
  5. Sarah - I don't know if you are familiar with the Casefile podcast, but he looked at the Snowtown murders in episode 19: casefilepodcast.com/case-19-snowtown/
  6. I don't think there was a plot-specific reference there; however, the character seemed very much based on Jimmy Saville, a BBC children's/teen's host from the 70s to the 2000s who was revealed to be using his position to abuse children. If you don't know anything about him, a google search requires extra-strength brain bleach. I took the comments and the tortured looks of the staff to mean that all the staff, especially the long-term ones, know there's something really wrong, but they are implicated in that they haven't said anything and they continue to benefit from his largess. After Saville's death, many people at the BBC were implicated in turning a blind eye, so it was an interesting character for a BBC show to include to say the least. The comment to the pathologist is _especially_ creepy in the context of Jimmy Saville.
  7. Charlotte posted a link to Crafty Plans podcast (http://craftyplanner.com/2016/07/11/charlotte-newland/). Good interview with a lot of background information on how the Bee is structured and how the application process works.
  8. They're rerunning this episode right now. What I got from the conversation was that the Order would expect them to have 10 kids each and would count both them and their theoretical children as "lost members" which is why they fight to keep girls who are trying desperately to escape.
  9. Let's see if I can. A block is a pattern that basically covers the body. There are no design elements and generally only enough ease (the difference between the body measurement and the amount of fabric) to allow you to put the block on a body. (ie. if your hips measure 100 cm, the amount of fabric encircling your hips may be 102 cm) Once you can get fabric perfectly covering the body, you can add design elements to change the shape of the garment without ruining the fit. Ideally. If you watch Project Runway, a lot of the designers do what the contestants were doing in the alteration challenge. They were draping fabric over the mannequin to get it to fit and create design elements. This is the opposite where you are creating a pattern that you then fit to the model. I'm hoping I got that right. In flakier news, I loved how Patrick had to fold almost completely in two to hold a whispered conversation with Esme.
